Configuring Backups in Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.2.0

Hello,
I am trying to configure backups in Enterprise Manager. Whenever I try to provide the host credentials, I receive the following:
"Connection to host as user Administrator failed: ERROR: Wrong
password for user"
This machine is a primary domain controller, and therfore has no local accounts. All accounts are through the domain via Active Directory. I came across a plug-in for Enterprise Manager for AD, but it is only for Windows Server 2003. Since I cannot authenticate locally for host credentials, how would I work around this in order to setup a backup schedule? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, this did not seem to resolve the issue, as I still received the error message when attempting to provide the Administrator's credentials. I also added the domain admin to the Log on locally option, but this did nothing as well. Is there something else that I need to put in to the fields when attempting to set up a backup job?

  • DBUA Failed at "Configuring Database with Enterprise Manager"

    Hi All,
We upgraded our production database and we have configured OEM in that, while upgrading from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.5, it failed at the stage "Configuring Database with Enterprise Manager". Could anyone suggest how to upgrad OEM to 10.2.0.5.

I don't think you will find logging regarding failed jobs on the system. But you can create a "view only" user, see MOS: How To Create Administrator Accounts (Super Admin, Admin, View Only, etc) In Grid Control [ID 377310.1]

  • Configuring Rman backups from Enterprise Manager GC.

    Greetings,
I am having a difficult time understanding how OEM GC 11g interacts with RMAN and am hoping someone can clarify a couple of things for me. Hopefully I am asking meaningful questions. I can make it work but am unclear as to how it is working.
    1) For a particular instance under Availability -> Backup/Recovery -> Setting -> Backup Settings I configure my backup settings for RMAN. Is that analogous to issuing the CONFIGURE command from within RMAN?
    2) For a particular instance under Availability -> Backup/Recovery -> Manage -> Schedule Backup There are two choices: Oracle Suggested Backup and Customized backup.
Does each of those choices use the settings defined when I configured backup settings?
Looking at the script generated by the Oracle Suggested Backup it appears that it is a very basic backup. What does it do about archive maintenance after backup.
    Thanks
    Bill Wagman

    Hi,
    to answer the questions:
1.) yes, these settings reflect the RMAN configuration settings and are used for the backup jobs that are configured via Grid Control
2.) we are using gric control to configure our backup jobs - we never used the Oracle suggested backups, they seemed to be too simple and less flexible. We preferred to build customized backups. They are easy to configure (some screens to clck through) and provides more flexibility. As an example you can decide to backup archive logs also and to delete then from disk afterwards. Also you can distinguish between full or incremental backups. I think it is uasbel and flexible enough for basic backup strategies.

  • Configuration Problem Oracle Enterprise Manager 9i

    Hello Friends,
I have installed oracle 9i on windows 2000 server, But when I run oracle enterprise manager it asks me the userid and password.
Anyone could tell me what is the userid and password i should provide, and any other necessary configuration to work with OEM 9i
Your response would be great help for me.
    Thanks,
    Faisal.

If you want to get connection in stand-alone mode you can use the user system and its password. If you do not know the password of the user system you can do this in the Oracle Server.
    SET ORACLE_SID=<database_sid>
    sqlplus /nolog
    conn / as sysdba
    alter user system identified by <new_password>;
    exit
through that way you will be change the password to the user system and you will be able to get connection from OEM. There are other details to get connection from OEM . Test it so and if you have troubles to do it you will be able to reply.

  • Can't Backup using Enterprise Manager 10g

    Help -
I am trying to use the backup option of Enterprise Manger 10g from the maintenance tab.
I select Schedule Customized Backup but keep getting a connection error:
Connection to host as user dbi/system failed: ERROR: Wrong password for user
I am using the same login (system) and password as when I login to Enterprise Manager.
What login do I need to use ? Or what could I be doing wrong?
    Thanks - jcsjcs

    I had the same problem.
The user you supply under "Host Credentials" must be a windows user(domain\username) which must be a member of the local group ora_dba and must have the Right "Logon as a batch job". Go to Administrative Tools, Local security settings" and add this right. It is the best to give it also local administrator rights.

  • Scheduled backups with Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
I have shceduled a full backup with Entreprise Manager 10g. Previusly I went to Backup settings and I have specified the path. The test executed sucssesfully.
Then, once the backup was executed, it fails, but I can see any log from the Enterprise Manager on Backup Reports. Does somene know where I can find the backup logs?
    Thanks in advance!
    Víctor.

When u r using oracle EM to schedule the backup it is actually using RMAN at the backend so you should provide the location of the backup log file aswell, only then it will generate the log file.
The following are the command line RMAN parameters in which log is one of them,
    target
    catalog
    nocatalog
    cmdfile
    LOG
    trace
    append
    debug
    msgno
    send
    pipe
    timeout

I would suggest to create database without enterprise manager control option and once database is created successfully , you can manually configure OEM later on.

    You can reconfigure with

    Enter the following information:

  • Add second instance to Enterprise Manager 10g database control

    Hi,
I have a server with one Oracle 10g database instance, and I
configured the local Enterprise Manager database control for it.
Now I added a second instance on the server, using the same Oracle
home. Can I manage this new instance using the existing database
control or do I have to configure a second database control using
another port? The documentation isn't too clear on this.
    Thanks,
    Matthias

You can't manage the two database using database control. you have to go for Grid control only if you need to configure two or more instance.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control

    Please help me.
    Here's oracle installing step:
    1. Install Oracle 11g software with "Advance" option. I just install software without creating a Data base at this time.
    2. Create a Data base with DBCA
I couldn't see the Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control at "Services " window while
"Chapter 3: Getting Started with Oracle Enterprise Manager" says that:
This chapter introduces you to Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control. The Oracle Universal Installer installs Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control when you install the Oracle software. Enterprise Manager Database Control provides a Web-based interface that you can use to manage your Oracle instance and database.
    Thank in advance!

    Hi,
You didn’t create a Database that’s why you don’t have Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control.
Create Database with DBCA and you will get an option “Configure database with Enterprise manager” (step 5).
At the end of DB creation you will get a link for Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control.
Browse the link to open EM Database control.
If you choose to create DB with Oracle installation then you will get Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control.

  • Clustering, HA and Oracle Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
Iam new to 9iAS and have been working on Bea Weblogic before.
I want to implement a cluster so that I can have HA for service and session routing.
I was told that this would be possible through configuration in the Enterprise Manager GUI.
I want to know how to start this GUI and will this type of clustering/cloning work in the case PL/SQL Cartridge apps too?
Can someone help me out ASAP?
    cheers,
    Swami

If you've set up your server cluster the enterprise manager should recognize the fact unless you have not installed the HA components of Oracle. I know that under 8.1.7 I had to create the cluster before I installed the oracle software. During the install process the cluster was recognized and the ha options were installed on the system and we went from there. I'm not quite sure how it works under 9i.

  • Backup problems from Enterprise Manager Database control

I'm having a problem with performing backups from EM DB Control on two of my Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 systems. When I configure and submit any backup job from EM (either online or offline), the following happens:
    - When the job is due to run a Pre backup task has status of 'Scheduled'
    - Prebackup task completes and status changes to 'Succeeded'
    - Backup task appears with status of 'Scheduled' and value of started time within the next minute
    - Status of backup task never changes from 'Scheduled', and the started time keeps updating to the current time
    - This goes on indefinitely until I abort the job
At the moment I have scheduled tasks configured to run an RMAN job every night, but I need to get this working through Enterprise Manager Database control. Please help!
Something else which has happended on one of these systems is that after applying some Microsoft Critical updates the database control service would not start. The only way I could find to resolve this was to recreate the Enterprise Manager repository. Could there be a link here at all?
    Cheers,
    Strak

I think Rodney may have the cause, because the database has been copied. I have looked in every property file I can think of, and then all the rest anyway, and there is no reference to the old host name. And I have ralready e-installed EM using emca -config -dbcontrol db. And I'm definately on the correct port.
So it must be held internally in the database. I've seen partial instructions on deleting the EM repository in the database & java files, does anyone have a full set I can use ? Once that is done, does emca reinstall everything ?
    Many thanks, Duncan

  • Problem with LDAP configuration in Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
I'm new at Java CAPS. After install some pieces of Java CAPS now I'm trying to install and configure a Sun Java System Directory Server 5.2 in our environment.
I've already configured the Repository and the Logical Host to work with the ldap, but I have some troubles to do it with the Enterprise Manager.
I followed the instructions of the Administrator guide about the changes to do in web.xml and ldap.properties of the sentinel app but when I do login the Enterprise Manager I can't see the options of the tree to manage servers or users.
It seems that the app don't recover the user roles. I think so becouse I tried to create one user without roles (in normal authentication, without ldap configured) and when I did login in the result was the same.
At the beginning of the process I created the roles 'all', 'administration' and 'management'. However I tried to copy de roles of the Tomcat authentication from 'tomcat-users.xml' to ldap roles, but it doesn't work.
    Anyone could help me?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my rudimentary English

Check that you have the correct Preferred Credentials with Logon as batch job if this is windows. Also check the correct configuration with regards LDAP integration for you platform.

Assuming an agent is running on the servers you want to monitor,
navigate to the Agent home page (Via setup --> Agent)
When in the agent home page select 'Add Database'and press [Go]
Assuming yopur database now gets recognized, select the Configure icon and enter the password for dbsnmp.
