Configuring FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET !!

Hi, all.
I have a 2 node RAC database on windows 2003 EE SP1.
I am getting the following message from an alert log file.

As you see in the aboves, one redo group is current and all others are active status. Thus, the operations related to logswich is being failed.
FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET is effective for the above issue?
And what is FAST_START_IO_TARGET for?

Assuming you are using Oralce 10g, this version has self tune checkpointing capabilities if FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET is set to a non-zero value. FAST_START_IO_TARGET is used in 8i to reduce MTTR. Setting FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET to a low value makes checkpointing more aggressive. Increasing the size of the redo logs or add another redo log member may solve your problem. Your error could be caused due to a large transaction spanning multiple redo logs.

Dear Friends,
I know that when I configure FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET , then it should be disable the "log_checkpoint_timeout " parameter , i.e, "log_checkpoint_timeout=0" .Is it mean that , "FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET" parameters works for "log_checkpoint_timeout" parameter ?
If it is true then my question is , If I set FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET=600, (which helps to perform crash recovery of a single instance within 600 seconds) then what will be the minimum time to occur a checkpoint, since "log_checkpoint_timeout=0" .

Well you need to look back in the history ,
Log_checkpoint_timeout
This is the time that is after the last checkpoint which has occurred. So , for example, if the last checkpoint occurred 10seconds before, with value of 10 for this parameter, another will occur after 10 seconds.
Log_checkpoint_interval
This is the number of blocks that could exist between one increemntal checkpoint and the last block which is written to the redo log.
It was a little cumbersome to get a balance between the two parameters. So oracle decided to make them club together and gave , Fast_start_mttr_Target. This was a more simple one. Now you mentioned that the other parameter should be disabled. Well , just so you know, the other two are still there and are perfectly valid even. The only issue is if you are going to set anyone of them, they override the FSMT parameter. That's why it is suggested that you use only the new parameter and not the old one.
This parameter basically governs that for how much time, a dirty buffer can stay in the cache. AFter that time period, with the incrementbacl checkpointing kicking in, this would be flushed out to the data files. The more faster instanace recovery can happen only when there are minimal number of blocks left over for being recovered. This incremental checkpointing algorithm helps in achieving that. So if you set the value of this to 600seconds, the incremntal checkpoint will occur after these many seconds. Now just remember one more thing that this is not the "only" point or event to make the checkpoint happen. It may happen due to various other factors as well for example LRUW list become full.
Though this parameter was designed to optimize the performance of instance recovery but this is not so easy. The parameter shoots up the physical ios which are there becaus of the checkpointing. The more higher writes to the datafile , the less number of blocks to be recovered. But the more higher writes, more IO and more slow you can be. So from oracle 10.2(if I am correct) , oracle has taken away the control from you. Now this parameter is "auto-tuned" depending on the workload of the system.

Is Zero is the Automatic Value for fast_start_mttr_target in ORacle10g

I am working in Oracle 10g . In Oracle 9i the default value of fast_start_mttr_target is 600 . Now my question is :
In Oracle10g , is the '0' value is automatic recovery activities for fast_start_mttr_target (i.e., fast_start_mttr_target=0, here MTTR performs auto) ?
Is it correct ?
And also using the query , How can I measure the MTTR value :
Estimate the value for FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET as follows:

"Unset" means 'not set, non-existent'.
If you're using a text init.ora, you simply delete the line on which that parameter is set.
If you're using a binary spfile, you issue the command
alter system reset fast_start_mttr_target scope=spfile sid='*';
Either way, you end up with the parameter physically not being specified in your configuration file. As opposed to it being set to a zero value, in which case it is physically present in the configuration file, set to a value which will switch off auto-tuning of checkpoints.
You want it "not existing", not "existing but set to a value of zero".
I'm afraid I don't know of any other way to explain the difference between non-existence and existence at value zero to you.
One slight twist is that if the parameter does not exist in the spfile at all, a "show parameter fast_start_mttr_target" in SQL*Plus will show its value to be set to zero. For example:

The only way I know to tell the difference between 'showing zero because it exists and it's been set to zero' and 'showing zero because it doesn't exist at all and zero happens to be the default value' is to try and delete the thing as shown above (with the alter system reset) command: if the parameter doesn't exist at all, and is showing a value of zero because that's merely the default value, then you'll get this error message displayed:

FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET - Optimal File Size

I have set Fast_Start_MTTR_Target to 3600 (1 hour)...when I query v$instance_recovery view it says that 17929 MB is my suggested log file size. They are now sized at 300MB. This can't be correct, can it? I can't have a 17GB log file. This is Oracle JD Edwards though....but what else should I look at? I know 300MB is too small.

I Beleieve you have to FSMT to too high value i.e 1hr. I dont think you will wait your database to startup after instance crash for 1hr?????? This is i believe is not a gud settings. Now you have set FSMT to 1hr and oracle would think that it has to do incremental checkpoint after 1hr (to flush dirty block from buffer cache to disk) . So due to this configuration you are seeing too high value in v$instance_recovery i.e 17929.
Please be notes that value of Optimal_logfile_size is very dynamic in nature and changes its value depending upon the load on system. So you cannot basically rely on this value if your system experience dynamic load.
Looking upon Load in database and amount of redolog file switches per sec/min, If they happen to be too frequent for example 2-3logfile switches per 20 mins, then its considered to be overswitching. Oracle recommends for optimal performance every logfile switch should not happen before 15-20 mins.
So good approach is to first see your alert.log and find out that how many log switches are happening then take a decision to increase the logfile size.
Please check with your organization what they suggest how much time they need to wait while instance do its recovery and then change value from default to higher.

Airport can no longer read or write the configuration of Time Capsule

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.3 and maintained with all available patches. I have also a Time Capsule with version 7.6.3 of the firmware. I use AirPort 6.2. So everything seems to be updated with the latest versions.
This has really been a good setup for nearly a year now, but earlier this month Time Machine suddenly stopped to work and could no longer do backups to the Time Capsule. I have tried to factory reset the Time Capsule several times, but I still get problems when writing the configuration to the Time Capsule. I get an error message saying "An error occurred while updating the configuration".
Airport is furthermore not able to detect the Time Capsule correctly anymore, so I have to configure it by entering the IP address. But after setting up WLAN, disks, etc. and enhanching the security, I just receive the error message when I try to write the config. The Internet connection works perfectly anyway, both via cable and wireless.
Anyone got any tips?

Do the setup by ethernet in full isolation from the network.
Start from a full factory reset.
I would recommend you take the firmware back to 7.6.1 or even earlier if the TC is older than 12months. 7.5.2 was very reliable. All these bugs started with 7.6 and the change to Lion.
I would also recommend installing 5.6 utility.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

Error while Provisioning a user to Exchange:Configuration OIM 9.1 & JBOSS

Hi,
I am facing the below error while provisioning a user to Exchange. The Resource gets provisioned. But inside the resource, two tasks (Create User & Set Mailbox) are rejected. When i retry these tasks, the Resource status is set to Revoked in the Resource Profile of OIM. The AD Provisioning is working fine. There are 2 AD IT Resources here. Database is Oracle 10g.

Configuring requirement : ordered item to absorb cost of free goods

Hello Friends,
I need to configure this in SAP SD.
The main item should accumulate the cost of the free goods.
I have set the cumulative indicator and deactivated pring for this item.
Do i still need to configure the stock value for the free goods as cost free item? Or is this step only applicable for
another scenario, like,
If I were to activate Pricing such that free goods is displayed as subitem and VPRS configured as cost and discount set to 100%
1. Set Item category to TANN using FREE usage AND
2. use condition type RL00 with requirement 55.
3. use pricing type B.

Partner application configuration is missing error on SSO login page

We have APEX 3.1.2 setup as a partner application and an application within APEX setup to use SSO for authentication. Following a link to the APEX application redirects to the Single Sign-On page, as it should, but it also shows "Error: The partner application configuration is missing or expired." I type in my password and username, click the Login button, and (if I entered my username and password correctly, of course!) then the APEX application is shown. So, I cannot figure out why we're getting the no_papp_err error and I have not found any solutions to that issue on Metalink or anywhere else on the Internet. Any ideas? I'm concerned that we have a misconfiguration somewhere that is causing this error and will affect any other partner application we setup in the future.
We're on Oracle Portal 10.1.4, SSO 10.1.2, and SSL is setup on both infra and mid tiers.

Did you try checking the partner application entries on the SSO-login server page?
please login as orcladmin or some other user with membership in, i beleive, iasadmins group. verify that for this partner application, what you see here corresponds to the application URL. it looks like your login page call may have issues. so check for login url too.
also check the ORASSO.WWSSO_LS_CONFIGURATION_INFO$ for entries corresponding to Apex application.

SharePoint Foundation 2013 - Search Configuration Issue - 2 App Servers and 2 Front-End Servers

We have a SharePoint Foundation 2013 with SP1 Environment.
In that, we have 2 Front-End Servers and 2 App Servers. In the Front-End Servers, the Search Service is stopped and is in Disabled state and in the 2 App Servers in One App Server, Search is Online and in another Search is Starting but goes to Stopped sooon
after.
Originally, we had only 1 App Server and we were running our Search Service and Search Service Application in that. Now since the index location became full and we were unable to increase the drive there, we added one more App Server and now the issue is

For your issue, could you provide the
detail error message of ULS log to determine the exact cause of the error?
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
For troubleshooting your issue, you can try to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on your WFE servers and run the script for configuring the search service on SharePoint

Problem when we created the managed server to configure different ports.

I am trying to configure different ports for admin console and my communication service as we can’t share admin port to the outside world.
So that only admin can access admin console using admin port.
And out side clients can access my webapplication using different port.
For this i have created the managed server in weblogic.and I deployed the application on managed server.
Now admin server is running on 8001 port and my Communication Service application is running on 7001 port.
But when I tried to configure MBeans related to myCommunicationServiceApplication those were disapper on admin console. And the other wlng services are appearing on admin console.
1. Since my application deployed on managed server MBeans registration happened from myapplication hence it’s disappear on admin console.
Now If I want to configure Mbeans (related to my communication service) how can I configure it?
2. My communication service using configurationStore module and other wlng services.
When I tried to start my application on managed server I got the below error:

I am trying to configure two WRV200 from 2 different loca...

I am trying to configure two WRV200 from 2 different location and ADSL
accounts. One location has PPPoE and the other has PPPoA. Both of it are
having a Speedtouch 356 6V modem. The router which using PPPoE and having a DDNS from TZO.com has no problem with the Quick VPN but the router which using a PPPoA connection could not able to connect even the quick VPN.
There is an option to ridirect the Public IP of Speedtouch to other network device and I manage to configure it and now my router who is having a PPPoA connection has a Public IP. But still the same problem VPN still not working.
Is there any chance that I could make this router work with the PPPoA connection. I will really appreciate if somebody could help me with this problem.

Payment Terms configuration

Dear Friends,
I have 2 queries -
1. Can we configured the Payment Terms which will enable while invoicing to create the multiple line item while Invoice Posting ( accounting entry ) say, while doing MIRO / FB60 transaction. And one of those would go to Special GL. e.g. we have to deduct the Retention Money @ 5% from Invoice Amount and we are using one of Special GL for Retention money so can i configure the Payment Term as -
1. 95% -
60 Days
2. 5% -
365 Days
So here 2 ( 5% ) will be posted as Special GL item while Invoice Entry.
( Currently we are transferring those entries to special gl manually using T code - F-02 from Vendor Open items )
2. We have configured the number of Payment Terms but sometimes negotiated Terms does fall into the category of existing Payment Terms and it is not possible to create the Payment Terms for such requirement. So can we configure one Payment Term which will be editable while Purchase ORder Creation or Invoicing ( like payment term with "OTHERS" would be created and initially it would be configured for 0 Days and those would be edited while making Purchase Order as per requirement.
Since this is affecting our Ageing Analysis and Payment Due Report as both are based on Payment Terms in PO.
If anyone has solution pls suggest the way to do it . will assign full marks if gets solution.

Goto OBB8, choose account type customer/vendor.
goto payment terms segment. 1) 3% days 0 2) 2% days 15.
3) we can enter %, only days. it means no cash discount.

I am going to install solution manager system in the same server of ERP EHP4 on Windows. Both DB are oracle.
I'd like to know how to configure listener in this kind of envirnmonent.
a. use two listener and different ports
b. use same listener but different ports
c. use same listener and same port
Which is the correct mothed?
And, after installation, there seem three set of profiles of listten, one for ERP, one for SLM, and the other for OS?(%windir%system32), which one is functional?

Hi,
standard installation is creating new configs for listener for each instance.
I would recommend to use one listener per each instance.
YOU CAN NOT HAVE one port number for two differnet systems!
If you want to use one listener than you must adapt tnsnames.ora, listener.ora and ensure that both systems will use different port numbers.
For example PORT= 15<system number>

How to Configure Cisco ASA 5512 for multiple public IP interfaces

I have a new ASA 5512 that I would like to configure for multiple public IP support. My problem may be basic but I am an occasional router admin and don't touch this stuff enough to retain everything I have learned.
Here is my concept.    We have a very basic network setup using three different ISPs that are currently running with cheap routers for internet access. We use these networks to open up access for Sales to demo different products that use a lot of bandwidth (why we have three)
I wanted to use the 5512 to consolidate the ISPs so we are using one router to manage the connections. I have installed an add on license that allows multiple outside interfaces along with a number of other features.
Outside Networks (I've changed the IPs for security purposes)
Outside1 E 0/0 : 74.55.55.210 255.255.255.240 gateway 74.55.55.222
Outside2 E 0/2: 50.241.134.220 255.255.248 gateway 50.241.134.222
Inside1 : E 0/1 192.168.255.1 255.255.248.0
Inside2 : E 0/3 172.16.255.1 255.255.248.0
My goal is to have Inside 1 route all internet traffic using Outside1 and Inside 2 to use Outside2.    The problem is I can't seem to do this. I can get inside 1 to use outside 1 but Inside2 uses Outside 1 as well.
I tried adding static routes on Outside2 to have all 172.16.248.0/21 traffic use gateway 50.241.134.222 but that doesn't seem to work.
I can post my config up as needed. I am not well versed in Cisco CLI, I've been using the ASDM 7.1 app. My ASA 5512 is at 9.1.

I have been away for a while and am just getting caught up on some posts. so my apology for a delayed response.
I find the response very puzzling. It begins by proclaiming that to achieve the objective we must use Policy Based Routing. But then in the suggested configuration there is no PBR. What it gives us is two OSPF processes using one process for each of the public address ranges and with some strange distribute list which uses a route map. I am not clear what exactly it is that this should accomplish and do not see how it contributes to having one group of users use one specific ISP and the other group of users use the other ISP>
To the original poster
It seems to me that you have chosen the wrong device to implement the edge function of your network. The ASA is a good firewall and it does some routing things. But fundamentally it is not a router. And to achieve what you want were a group of users will use a specified ISP and the other group of users will use the other ISP you really need a router. You want to control outbound traffic based on the source of the traffic, and that is a classic situation where PBR is the ideal solution. But the ASA does not do PBR.

Does anyone know how to configure TREX on the one host,
with multiple index servers ?
Reason for this is to make better use of resources available on the host server(4 Gig, 4 Processor, Windows2003), to improve the search performance of
our KM content for portal users.
I am using TREX 7 and have not been able to do this,
despite reading the Single and Distributed install
documentation.

Hi Andres,
To make use of the RAM a Server provides you have to run two indexserver processes (each can then consume 2 GB);
Proceed like this:
1. Go to TREXdeamon.ini; check if section [indexserver2] is there (it is already provided, but not active in standard installation)
2. In TREXdeamon.ini go to
[daemon]
references sections below
programs=nameserver,preprocessor1,indexserver1,queueserver,alertserver
and add indexserver2 here. Restart TREX; second porcess is then started; can be checked in TREX monitor in Portal as well
3. To distribute existing indexes to the new process, start TREXadmintool and go to Index: Landscape
Go to the last two columns and move the indexes (move master here/secondary mouse click)
If you don't distribute the indexes the new index server process will be regarded when an new index is created.
