Configuring firewall on macbook for website

I'm using OS 6.8 with a MacBook. Hostgator says my firewall needs to allow Port 2078 (SSL) and Port 2077 (Clear Text/Not Encrypted) I  so the Web Disc will work. I find firewall settings at System Preferences>Security>Advanced and see that by clicking + I can to allow ports by adding them. Elsewhere I had read to go to System Preferences>Sharing and click on Advanced tab. However, on my Mac, Advanced tab only happens on SP>Security not Sharing. Do just follow Hostgator instructions and click on WebDisc icon to put it on my desktop and by default the 2078 and 2077 ports will be allowed or do I have to be pepared to configure the firewall manually and how do I do that?

  • Firewall settings for websites

    Hello All:
Is there a way to set a Firewall setting/level for an individiual web site?
We have a DSL service and use a Verizon Westell 7500 modem/router with four ports.  The Firewall setting had been on medium and the Firewall was turned off on the Mac Mini. With these settings we were unable to get into a web site.
I went into the Westell control panel and lowered the Firewall level to the low setting, I also turned on the Firewall on the Mac Mini and now we are able to get into the same web site.
The problem is - we are afraid that the low setting for the Firewall in the Westell might be dangerious to us for continous usage.
So, I wanted to know if there is a way to set a  low Firewall setting just for the website we had trouble with and have a medium Firewall setting
    for are regular usage.
    Thanks for any input.

An NAT router is what enables you to share a single Internet connection among two or more devices. That's what you have.
It protects any network services you have running on your own network from being accessed from outside your network. You don't need a firewall for that, unless you have intentionally exposed services to the Internet.
A firewall does nothing to protect you from malware, if that's what you're worried about. I suggest you turn it off.

  • Free 20Mb database for website

    Hi,
I can see how to add a Free 20Mb SQL database to Windows Azure Mobile service. Can I create a free 20Mb SQL database for website use, I see it is detailed on the pricing page for websites, but I cannot see any option in the management portal in the websites
section or the database section to create this / these 20Mb SQL databases.
Update: I can also see how to link to the DB created in the mobile service in the Linked Resources. So not a hinderance I guess, just not intuitive to me.
I'm probably missing something simple :-(
    Paul

Ok so here is how i did it!
Create Mobile Service with a free 20MB database. I used North Europe
Create an application in Visual Studio (select host in Azure and ensure authentication is selected)
Publish your site and ask it to create a website in azure for you
When publishing your site, in the settings section, you can insert a DB connection string there. Ensure the site is created in the same region as the database else your site will be slower and you will be charged for bandwidth (i found this out in
azure when playing around with creating a mobile service and database)
Go into azure and select your database then "show connection strings"
Copy the string, put your password in and paste into visual studio before publishing.
Test it and it should work. If it doesn't, in Azure, you can add a firewall rule in the same window you copied the db connection string from.
    Publish your site
In Azure, go to your website then select linked services and ensure ONLY your free database is in there. I found it sometimes creates a GB database. You don't want that in there as it charges you as you populate it.
Then again in your website area, go to "Configure" and scroll down to connection strings
Paste your conn string in there as well as a key value. The key being the conn string name in visual studio web.config and the value being the conn string
Thats all I did and it works.

  • Can I exchange my MacBook for a new one?

Ok, so my Dad bought a MacBook for me yesterday, and he wants it now. But he doesn't want mine, he wants a new one. He wants to exchange my one-day old MacBook for a new MacBook that is exactly like mine, cept still in the box. Is this possible? Or would I just have to return mine and buy a new one?

In the United States, you can return your new computer (as long as it was not custom-configured at the factory) for a refund for any reason up to 14 calendar days from the purchase date. Apple will charge yo a 10% restocking fee for doing this. If your computer was purchased online and custom configured (added RAM, a larger hard drive or pre-installed software), then you cannot return it for a simple refund. You can find the complete sales policies here:

  • Statistics for websites running on OS X Server?

I'm curious what you all are using for website statistics. At work we use Google Analytics and it seems pretty good, and in the past I've played with AWStats but had some configuration hassles.
Are there any good web stats plug-ins for OS X Server, or do you all use Google Analytics?

We use Summary from Summary.net and have been quite happy with its performance and usability / configuration.

  • Would Apple exchange my Macbook for a new one for free?

Will Apple exchange my Macbook for another without having to pay the '10% Restocking Fee'? It has been under 2 weeks since I've bought my Macbook. The reason I want to exchange it is because:
Ever since I've installed the latest updates, my Macbook has been performing like a 1980 computer, not a 2007 computer. Since I've installed the updates, it has:
1.) Loading pages on the internet has slowed down by ALOT. I mean it takes about 20 seconds to load the Apple.com page.
    2) My download speed has slowed down to about 60/KB per sec. It used to be about 600/KB per sec.
    3) Videos take FOREVER to load, as if I had dial-up. I have Cable Internet.
    4) Games I play lag WAY more then they did before the updates. A game has even froze. It never used to do this.
Would Apple replace my Macbook for free? And is it worth returning, I mean, Would a HD format or something fix my problems?
I've tried emptying the cache, trying Firefox, resetting my PRAM, and nothing seems to work totally.

This is the returns policy for the apple store online. So provided its within the 14 days you should be able to get a refund. Take a look at the policy below.
    Dib.
[7.1 If you are not satisfied with any Product or the terms of any entitlement to Services you have purchased from us, you may return the Product to us or cancel the entitlement to Services and obtain a refund of the price of the returned Product or Service entitlement if you contact us within 14 Calendar Days of delivery of the Product or entering into the contract for the purchase of of Services. However, you may not return a Product and claim a refund if the Product concerned is:
    a) Software which we supplied to you sealed and unused and you have broken the seal or which you have successfully downloaded from the AppleStore website; or
    b) a personalized iPod with an engraving made in accordance with your specifications.

  • I have a macbook air/ipad/phone, etc.  I use my macbook for my home business and bought a TC.  My husband does not want it to be our default wifi.  Does it have to be?

I have a macbook air/ipad/phone, etc.  I use my macbook for my home business and bought a TC to do backups.  My husband does not want it to be our default wifi/modem as he is exclusively a PC user.  Does it have to be?  I thought it did everything wirelessly??  I don't want to start disconnecting our modem/router etc as we are all set up with wireless printing and backups for that computer.  If I have to muck around with it I am thinking of not bothering??

The TC will connect to your existing modem/router using an Ethernet cable. You will not have to use the wireless on the TC....you can even turn it off if you wish.
Backups to the TC will occur over your existing wireless.
Connect from a LAN <-> port on the modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the TC. Locate the TC anywhere that the Ethernet cable will reach. You can run the cable up to 300 feet with no loss.
Things will not automatically configure themselves. You will have to do some mucking around....no more than you would if you were installing the TC anywhere else.
Configure the TC to "create a wireless network". Once it is setup, you can ignore the TC wireless, or turn it off.

    Hi,
Make sure that the required ports are allowed over he device. The users can access through port 25/443 etc. and should be opened. Better, to go for a test at www.testconnectivity.microsoft.com

    I'm experiencing a similar problem.
I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011.  I was using Lion (not Mountain Lion) with CS3 with no problems.  Recently I installed a new hard drive in my computer and used Time Machine to transfer all my files and settings (still with Lion; I did not try to open any Adobe applications at this point).  Then I udpated to Mavericks.  Upon trying to open one of the Adobe applications, it told me I needed to reinstall CS3.  I inserted the original disc and followed the instructions on the ReadMe file.  I went to Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers > Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium.  I did a reinstall, and at the end, it said that some of the components failed to install (see screenshot):
I did a partial install (not all CS3 applications), so there could have been more errors than this if all applications were installed.  The applications themselves appear to work fine, but when I try to run the updater, it tells me I have no internet connection.

Acrobat updater works just fine [after I install the manual updates till 9.2.0].
Can you tell me where to find these manual updates?  I looked on this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/collection.jsp?collID=1&platform=Macintosh
but I don't see 9.2.0 for any of the CS3 applications.
The CS3 that I purchased (Design Premium) came with Adobe Acrobat 8.  I tried to manually install the 8.1.1 update.  It said, "Please choose the copy of Adobe Acrobat Professional to update", but the application is grayed out (see below).  I did not try to install any other manual updates, yet.
I'm not sure what to do here besides use my CS3 applications the way they are without updating them ever.  (I would rather not subscribe to the Creative Cloud.)  Any help will be appreciated.  I might try doing a complete unintall followed by a fresh install.

  • Does the firewall apply also for the serial MGT?

    Hi!
I would like to configue IPF. Im using a v240 with an Hyperterminal cabled in the special SERIAL MGT port (RJ-45) of the server.
My question is: does the firewall apply also for the serial MGT port?
Because Im not directly working on the server with keybord and monitor, Im worried about not beeing abble to get to the server again in case that I make a mistake with the Firewalls configuration!
Is this SERIAL MGT port to be seen like a normal serial port or to be seen like a LAN port?
Does the firewalls configuration has to be loaded every time you boot (like in Linux)?
    Thanks for your help.

These rules are normally initialized when the system is booted.
    </td></tr></table>
Well I just found in the sun documentation the following explanations:
"Solaris IP Filter uses the packet filtering rules that you put in to the ipf.conf file. If you locate the rules file for packet filtering in the /etc/ipf/ipf.conf file, this file is loaded when the system is booted. If you do not want the filtering rules to be loaded at boot time, put the in a file of your choice. You can then activate the rules with the ipf command."
So I guess there would be the possibility to try the rules and to reboot in case the rules dont allow any connection anymore.
    <table border="0" align="center" width="90%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td class="SmallText"><b>m-lennon wrote on Sat, 28 January 2006 06:46</b></td></tr><tr><td class="quote">
On many commercial networks, network management interfaces are attached to a private network without a route to a public network, such as the Internet, this will completely eliminate the possibility of the system being compromised by an external host.
    </td></tr></table>
But what does it mean for my concrete question?! Do I have to define a special rule for the serial MGT port? I would tend to think no because this port isnt a network card and I would tend to think that It could be considere like a keyboard. But of course Id like to be sure about it.

  • Configuring the authentication scheme for a web application

    Hi all,
We have a requirement to configure the authentication scheme for a web application where some set of users should access the application using basic LDAP (userid/password) authentication and some using digital certificate authentication.
Since the deployment descriptor (web.xml) allows only one directive for auth-method in logic-config, we want to know if there is any other way to achieve this requirement. We are thinking of a custom login module approach. But we are not able to figure out how to configure the auth-method at runtime from the login servlet.
Please let us know if there is any other approach to achieve this.
I will be thankful if any body shares any specific solution to this issue.

This forum is probably not the correct one to ask in. It's more related to the web container than Java Programming.
