Configuring "From" Field on Sent Mail?

This morning my e-mail server was switched from my historic one (TDS or its predecessors) to Gmail --- no choice! Reconfiguring Apple Mail was convoluted... but I think that my initial difficulty stems from my attempting to send an e-mail to myself! Apparently this is forbidden in Gmail. It took some time to recognize this being the reason why I could receive mail, but could not send!
My remaining question is how to change the address that appears in the "From" field as received by recipients.
Both the address that is now posted as well as my original address work; I merely wish to show my original address so as not to confuse recipients.
Thanks, Keith

In the preferences for your account - under account information - set the email address to your old email name@server and the Full Name to whatever you want it to show - but make sure to have the correct info in the Incoming Mail Server, User Name and Password fields.
Basically Mail uses the info in the bottom of that dialog to communicate with the server - but uses the info in the top to populate the fields on the email itself.
Watch out though - as the auto forwarding of the old email address may only work for a limited time - 6 months or a year maybe - then it may get shut off.

  • How to set a default "from" field on outgoing Mail message

i read through the last few pages of this support forum and googled my topic but i havent found a suitable solution.
in Mail v 3 (3.4) there is a "From:" field in any outgoing mail. very useful for those of us with multiple non-accounts and/or .Mac aliases. i generally set a specific outgoing mail server (so that field is removed from outgoing email).
my problem is how to set a default outgoing email address so that my recipients always get from a certain (eg work) email address when i am at work. at work, anything i send, i want to show my work email without always having to manually select the "FROM" field in the outgoing email.
( aside: i had read that Mail version 3 was supposed to auto-select any reply so that the reply would come from the same email i orginally sent as. this does not work on my mac.)
This problem is exacerbated as Mail auto-rotates between my 4 email accounts/aliases (which are all listed (correctly) in the FROM field. it would be great if this list could be fixed with a default FROM address.
eg i send an email from my work email address (FROM: [email protected]) the next email i send will be rotated through my list of .mac aliases. i.e. the next email i send will not be from [email protected], but from [email protected] the next time it might move on to [email protected] or it might revert to [email protected]
any thoughts on how to fix?
i have tried deleting the home/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. that is fine, but any .mac aliases (which i do use, but i dont want to be listed in the "FROM" field) are listed in the "FROM" field, and are auto-switched through my Mail again.
i looked through Rules and Automator, but no obvious help there. any thoughts?

Did you try Preferences > Accounts > Account Information and entering these other email aliases in the Email Address: field, separated by commas? That would give you a pop-down menu in the New Message window letting you choose which alias to use when sending an email.
If you go to Preferences > Composing, there should be a pop-down menu near the middle of that window labeled "Send new mail from:" which will let you choose any email address you have entered in the Account Information field mentioned above, or "Account of last viewed mailbox" as the default.

  • How can I change the "From:" field in iOS Mail?

    This is a weird one.
I have a gmail work email account that has been set up for me. There's a primary email address assigned to it, and a secondary one (which is the one I want to use).
No problem at all sending from the secondary account on my MacBook Pro. I just hit the drop down menu by the "From:" field, and I can select it from there.
However, when I send from my iPhone, I'm only given the option of sending from my primary email address, not the secondary one. This is despite the fact that I've synced Mail accounts via iTunes.
Any idea how I might fix this so I can send from the secondary account on my iPhone?

First of all, please fill in the Computer Model and Operating System fields on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save). This is essential information that should always be provided when asking for help.
Now, what does “I can't change it” mean? What appears in the From header of the messages you send is determined by your Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information settings...

  • Shortcut for changing "from" field in Lion Mail?

I manage a number of email accounts from Mail, and frequently need to send messages from one account, and then another account, and then another account ... In Snow Leopard, I enjoyed creating shortcuts to change the "from" field of an outgoing message.  For example, in the keyboard system preferences pane, I assigned the command "My Name <[email protected]>" the shortcut of "SHIFT+CMD+X".  That way, while writing an email, if I noticed that it was about to send from the wrong account, I'd just hit the keystroke instead of grabbing my mouse.  Mail apparently knew what I was doing, because on the drop-down tab for "From", each of my mail accounts also showed the custom assigned shortcut.
This ability seems blocked in Lion.  Whenever I try to re-create these shortcuts in the preferences / application-shortcuts pane, they won't work!  What's worse, whenever I quite and re-open System Preferences, I find that my shortcuts have been re-assigned an extra open-bracket, such as: ">My Name <[email protected]>".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Is it possible to re-create these shortcuts in Lion Mail?

So Entourage can go to the previous message?  How do you do that?
I can't stand that Mail always goes to the next newest message after deleting.
Every other email program I've ever seen (including Entourage - see below) can do this.  Why can't Apple?  I don't want to touch the mouse most of the time because it really slows down work to move ones hands back and forth.   I did a quick web search and found these shortcuts for all the major programs.  If you know of any other program besides Apple Mail that doesn't have this, let me know.
Until then, if Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage, Sparrow, Postbox, and Thunderbird have had this, what's Apple's problem adding it?

  • Define recipient from Rule in sent mail

    Hi
Could any one help me, how to mention the list of recipients determined via rule resolution in sent mail.
I read in a SAP book and it suggest to define one background task to get the list of recipient from FM: RH_GET_ACTORS based upon custom rule(AC90000001). Everything is working fine. But am facing problem to bind the value from FM to workflow container. The reason is the return value of FM is in “SWHACTOR“ structure but sent mail accept experssion in AAGENT BOR.
I really appreciate your help by rewarding points
    Thanks
    Kamal Babu

    Hai,
I think what AK said is correct. I did a similar thing once. What I did was, I created a rule which used a custom FM. In FM, Pernr was Import parameter (TYPE  PSKEY-PERNR) and UsrID was Export parameter (TYPE  PA0105-USRID). As a rule, I had AC_CONTAINER STRUCTURE  SWCONT and ACTOR_TAB STRUCTURE  SWHACTOR.
Then, I used a subroutine to get the USRID from the Pernr using table PA0105. Something like:
           PERFORM         get_approvers
                  USING        gv_level
                  CHANGING lv_found
After that, I appended the Actor_Tab and Object ID like:
        actor_tab-otype    =    'US'.
        actor_tab-objid    =    gv_userid.
        APPEND actor_tab.
Think, this is what you were speaking about.

  • How can I edit the 'from' field at e-mail receipts

I tried to add my own name in the 'from' field in the section 'e-mail receipts', but the system won't let me edit the field. It always sticks with the standard 'from' name Adobe Forms Central. I have a Plus Subscription package.
Please advise how to proceed. Thanks.

    Hi,
To customize the name in the "From" field used for email receipts, you must first select an address other than "[email protected]".

Can I/How do I transfer sent emails from my droid to my PCs sent mail folders (or Gmail's or Outlook's)? I send lots of email on-the-go and want to keep a record of them with my other emails.  Thanks!

This depends on which account you are talk about... The gMail account should automatically sync the sent items from your device but some accounts wont allow sync of all folders and the only way without a third party app is to send a CC to yourself when you sent the messages.

  • Change "Sent From" Address on Sent Mail

Is there a way to change the "Sent From" Signature on outgoing mail. I use Yahoo for push email but want my outgoing mail address to read as my corporate email address. I don't want to send email to my clients showing a yahoo address. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • ICloud has my name incorrect in the "From" field of the Mail Compose window. How can I fix this?

When I'm using the iCloud website, when I try to compose an email, iCloud has my name incorrect in the "From" pop-up menu. I changed my last name some time ago, after my divorce, from "Seymour-Amper" back to "Seymour". My Apple ID, my iCloud Settings, and my iCloud Contacts all show my name as "Gemma Seymour", except in the "From" field in Email. There doesn't seem to be any place to change this. I was going to call iCloud Support, but I don't have cell service at home, and can only access the Internet from the public library, where I cannot use my phone. Can anyone help?

In iCloud Mail, try clicking the actions symbol in the left bottom corner and select Preferences. Next click 'Accounts' and select 'iCloud' (if not already selected) on the left. On the right you should see 'Label: iCloud' and below that 'Full Name: ....'. Here you should be able to change your name and next click 'Done' on the right bottom corner.
    Hope this helpes...

  • The "From: field on outgoing mail has dissappeared.

It simply vanished, whereas I'd always had a From, with pulldown menu that allowed me to choose which name/email address I wanted to send from.
    thanks,

No - nothing to do with columns, alas.
What is missing is the pulldown menu that used to be on lower left of address area.
The pulldaown aid "accounts" and I could pull down to select which of my email names I wanted to send from.
Oh - and this is the mail application, not the internet .

  • "???????" in From Field of the Java Mail

I am using Java Mail APIs for sending the mails. "From", "To", "CC", "BCC", "Subject" is set in MimeMessage. Earlier I could see "?????????" in place of both "From" and "Subject".
To fix the Subject issue, I used steps given in "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324603" and it worked. But still I am getting "?????" in From field of the mail. Any idea how this can be fixed? ?
    Thanks
    Bhuvan

Again, there are two obvious possibilities, and you'll have to debug this
to figure out which one it is.
First possibility is that the Unicode characters in your Java String object
are wrong. Try putting m_strFrom in the Subject field and see if that
displays properly in your mail reader.
If it does, then the characters are correct and the problem is that your
mail reader isn't displaying the same characters in the From field
    correctly.
If it doesn't, then however you've read those characters to compose
    that String is wrong.

  • Hiding BCC/From Fields in Mail?

Is there a way to hide the BCC and From fields in compose mail window? I have checked the settings and didn't see anything. Hoping it's an oversight because those two fields that I don't want to see are taking up valuable screen space.
    Thanks,
    Tom

if you don't enter anything... it collapses those fields to just one when you go back to the To, Subj, or Body
if you do enter addresses in the cc, bcc, or from... it stays that way...
but the point is trivial because as you type you have to scroll anyway which gives you back that screen space so precious to you...
so why not just scroll... is it necessary to see who is in the header fields at all times? i don't know of a reason why...

  • Unable to view my BCC recipients in Sent Mail - please help!

I used BCC when sending mail to our alumni group (over 1000 members) about a month ago. I need to view the list of recipients in those e-mails from the BCC field - the problem is in my mail app I cannot view the BCC list for some reason in my sent mail folder.
    - using latest version of leopard
    - using IMAP
    - can view to: and cc: but not bcc:
    - tried to add bcc field to sent mail but it was grayed out.
    Please help!

select that send message and go to view menu->message->raw source. see if the bcc is recorded there. if not that info was not saved and there is no way to get it now.

Now when I send the mail from browser, the sent mail gets download in mail 6.3 app but when I send the mail from the app it is not getting uploaded onto the yahoo server. This results in the unavailability of sent mails when the mail is accessed from somewhere else. Kindly help for the issue.

    Hi Amit,
To save the sent items in
“Sent Items Folder” follow the given path (Outlook 2007):

    In E-Mail options, choose the

  • I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

If you're using iPhoto as your email client a sent version is not created.  You need to BCC yourself in order to get a copy.
The better solution is to use Mail as your email client in conjunction with Gmail.  This will give you a sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if so desired, photo templates to use via Mail's stationary feature.
