Configuring Grid Control on 10g R2

Hi
Current Envt : Oracle 8.1.7/Win NT.
We are going migrate to 10g R2 ,
In the current 8i environment, we have a EM database which manages RMAN backups of a couple of Other databases.
And we monitor these backup jobs through this Enterprise Manager 2.2.
Also, using this OEM 2.2, iam able to monitor all the existing databases .
Coming to 10g R2 (10.2.0.1)
i realized that Enterpise Manager (web based) is only for a single instance.
And i read some where that 10g Grid Control would be helpful for multiple databases.
and how to access the Grid Control..and configure multiple databases on it.
Currently, i installed Grid Control 10.1.0.5 by giving the path as
E:\app\oracle\product\10.2\em_1
However, iam not able to figure as how to bring up the Grid Control.
I wanted to know if someone can provide the steps on how to install (if i have been doing anything wrong ?
Whether while installing i have to give the same $ORACLE_HOME as with the database ?
I also tried the same way as regular DBcosole ie., http://localhost:port/em
In addition, while creating the DB using DBCA, i selected the Grid Control Option.
Please suggest as how to proceed further.
Thanx

Coming to 10g R2 (10.2.0.1)
i realized that Enterpise Manager (web based) is only
for a single instance.Database control is for single instance and it gets when you install the database provided you pick the option to install it.
And i read some where that 10g Grid Control would be
helpful for multiple databases.Grid Control is the only way to manage multiple dbs.
and how to access the Grid Control..and configure
multiple databases on it.
Currently, i installed Grid Control 10.1.0.5 by
giving the path as
E:\app\oracle\product\10.2\em_1Install Grid Control on a separate server preferably one dedicated to management only. Then on each database server, you'll need to install an agent for OMS to talk to the target database.
However, iam not able to figure as how to bring up
the Grid Control.
I wanted to know if someone can provide the steps on
how to install (if i have been doing anything wrong
Whether while installing i have to give the same
$ORACLE_HOME as with the database ?Install as I said above. In a separate home if you want to install it on a server that has your target database.
I also tried the same way as regular DBcosole ie.,
http://localhost:port/em
You probably didn't install the DBconsole.

In addition, while creating the DB using DBCA, i
selected the Grid Control Option.
For this option to work, you need to have Grid Control operational. First start with selecting only DBConsole...this way you can manage your database. After you get Grid Control installed and the agent is working properly, you can stop the DBConsole service and use Grid Control to manage your target database.

  • Install of OEM Grid Control on  10g RAC

    Hi,
I try to install OEM Grid Control 10.1.0.3 on a 10G 10.1.0.2 database with ASM and RAC installed, on windows.
At the step of choosing the product to install, i would like to choose 'OEM GC using an existing database' or 'Additional management service 10.1.0.3', but it fails.
The reason is 'you cannot install OEM on a hardware cluster'.
I have no idea how to resolve that, do i have to change my RAC installation ?
    thank you for your answer,
    Isabelle

To install on RAC, you install using an existing database and then specify the sid/hostname for ONE instance in the RAC.
Once the management repository has been sucessfully installed and the mid-tier is up, you can edit emoms.properties to modify the JDBC url the application uses to connect to the database to be RAC aware.
The are a number of pre-installation requisites for an existing database to be used as a destination for a repository installation, there are both documents on metalink on the subject and the basic installation guide references pre-requisites for existing databases.

  • Gride Control in 10g

    Hi,
I am running 8 databases on oracle 10g envoirnment. All oracle on linux based. Now i want to install 10G gride control for managing all these database. My question is that i have to install Gride Control and its agent in all ORACLE SERVER under linux O/S or can i install 10g database on my windows desktop machine and install the gride control over there i mean windows machine and then manage the all database..??? Plse let me know and treat to be urgent.
    Thanks in advance...
    Noman

Yes of course that is possible.
Just install Grid Control on the Whinedoze machine, and make sure you deploy the Management Agent on all Linux servers.
People wno need 'urgent' answers quite often don't read documentation. You seem to be no exception to this hypothesis.
Please note you won't manage to install Grid Control without reading docs.
Please avoid the word 'urgent' if you want your queries answered by volunteers.

  • How to switch target from DB Console to Grid Control

    Hi,
    Here's the deal :
I need to switch from a Database which was running in DB Console locally on that comp to be part of the 10g Grid Control ( on a OEL Linux 4 ).
I installed the agent and set it to use the Grid Server but I cant get the listener to communicate (on the grid) ; coz am sure I need to somehow knock that database from using DBConsole and switch over to be part of the GRID.
I verified that emd.properties of that agent has the correct Repository URL.
Could you point me in the right direction ? I'd really appreciate that.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The reason I did the deconfig option was cause : Initially the database on "server3.sam" was configured to use DBConsole. Later on when I decided to hook this server ( and DB ) to the grid, I found that the GRID didnt recognize the the DB on "server3.sam" and the server name wont get added under HOSTS.
Even though the emd.properties had the correct Repository URL of the GRID, it didnt help.
At this stage here is what I found as per Oracle Documentation :
" You will need to deconfigure Database Control if you want to configure Grid Control to use a database already configured with Database Control. "
So I assumed that for all DB's currently using DBConsole, inorder for them to link up with GRID we had to deconfigure them first and run dbca to reconfigure with GRID settings. This worked out for me. Hence my suggestion.
If this aint the correct way to hook up, could you please enlighten me ? Also can you tell me what exactly is deconfig doing ?

  • Grid Control Support for Tripwire

Does Oracle EM GridControl support Tripwire?
Do we need a seperate licence from oracle and how to configure Grid control to support Tripwire?
Any refrence link is much appreciated..

this is what i have now.
i have a system with grid control and database server
    as version 10.1.0
now i am installing in a new system oracle database
server version 10.2.0. and i want to link this 10.2.0
with the existing grid control. will this work?Yes. Just discover your new 10..2.0 database using the 10.1.0 Grid Control.
    >
will it be a good idea to upgrade the database server
and the grid control in the old system from 10.1.0
    to 10.2.0 version?
Good idea to read all the release notes and compatibility section that come with you version. It is not a good idea to guess (unless it is a small test system). On my test PC, I upgraded repository to 10.2.0.1.0 and left Grid Control as 10.1.0.3. It works fine.

  • To acess grid control out of the network (example from my house)

Its possible to configure grid control console and oms to access out of the network , for example from my house by internet access.
    Thanks

If you want to connect to the EM Website you should have a connection from your home to your company. Usually using a VPN you can solve this.
If you want to monitor the temperature of your fridge using GridControl (if you manage to install an agent on the fridge) than you have to configure proxies for your GridControl and your agent - if there is a firewall between home and work (hopefully there is one ;-)
We are using a VPN tunnel to connect from home office to our company lan. There are several ways to do this in a secure way (RSA tokens, smartcards, fingerprints etc.)

  • Error in OMS configuration when Installing 10g Grid Control

    Hi All,
I am installing Enterprise manager Grid control 10g for Rac. This is failing on OMS configuration.I check log file and found following error under OracleHomes/oms10g/sysman/log/emca_repos_drop12_29_46:
Could not connect to SYS/(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=bomlsr01)(PORT=1541)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=APPSUPG))): ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
As I am installing this on RAC I passed service name (DB name) value not SID.
Could anyone please tell where I am doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Sanjeev

OK, but when looking at the error message
    Could not connect to SYS/(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=bomlsr01)(PORT=1541)))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=APPSUPG))): ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
    (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
and comparing it with the result of the tnsping
    (DESCRIPTION= (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=bomlsr01.firstassist.org.uk)(PORT=1541)) (CONNECT_DATA= (SERVICE_NAME=APPSUPG)
    (INSTANCE_NAME=RAC1)))
    I see two differences:
    => SID=APPSUPG / SERVICE_NAME=APPSUPG
    => HOST=bomlsr01 / HOST=bomlsr01.firstassist.org.uk
The harder part now is to figure out what needs to be done to fix your issue. I would suggest to take a look at the documentation (installing
    GC on RAC)

  • 10g Grid Control Installation/configuration on RAC

    Hi Experts,
I am new to RAC and I need your help.
I need to configure 2 node RAC and install/configure Oracle 10g Grid control (High Availability) on HP-UX Itanium servers. Is there any good document or link?
    Thank You all in advance
    Bell

    Hi Bell,
Here is the link for the 10gR5 Grid Control Installation Guide: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/install.102/e10953/toc.htm
Considering the GC repository is a RAC database you will be performing the "+Using an Existing Database+" installation type.
I would highlight the below part of the documentation:
To view a list of certified Oracle Database, see Document ID 412431.1 on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).
If you want to use a RAC database, which is configured on a virtual host, as the existing database, then refer to Document ID 561441.1 on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).

    hi,
before you install grid, try and patch the database to a later release, 10.2.0.4
had this issue in work and patching the db resolved the issue.
I did install database software only, then patch then create database, then install grid
