Configuring Internet Access Policy on WRT160NV3 Router

Need some help configuring the schedule on my N Router. I would like to restrict access to the internet from a certain PC on my network (I have entered the system MAC address in the required field) and would like to deny internet access from 8:00pm to 6:00am.  Every time I enter the hours, I receive a pop up that says "The end time must be larger than the start time". Can anyone advise on how to set this up to restrict access during those times?

You cannot configure a rule through midnight. Set up two policies one from 8pm to 1155pm. The other from 12am till 6am.

  • RVS4000 Internet Access Policy issues after FW upgrade to 1.3.3.5

    Hi,
we run a small home/business network using an RVS4000v1. Everything is pretty simple and straight forward. We use 10 different Internet Access Policies (IAP) that's it. We recently upgraded the Firmware to 1.3.3.5.
Since then all IPaddresses (that is 2 IPaddresses in total) that have 24 hr access to the internet will get cut off the internet just before/around midnight. All IAPs that use a time window (e.g. 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM) are working fine (also on the next day).
The web GUI still works and the status of the routers still says its up and the WAN access is up as well. We have to reboot the router (through the webGUI) to get 24hr access again or save the same IAP again.
Reading the release note for FW 1.3.3.5 I note that there is a know issue with IAP.
    >>QUOTE
The second Internet access policy does not work.
Work Around: Configure only one Internet access policy within a 24-hour
    interval.
    >>UNQUOTE
I am just not sure how to read it.
Is it only the second IAP that has the issue (and the IAP numbers 3 to 10 do not)? Or will only ONE IAP work and no others?
Or is the second policy that uses a 24hr setting meant to be the issue? If this was the case, could a work around be to set the time from 00:05 AM to 11:55 PM (or in my case 00:05 to 23:55)?
    We appreciate your help
    Andy

    Friends,
The issue is resolved. I just switched off my phone and removed the battery. Inserted the battery after a minute or so and everything seems to be fine. Even the available memory shown is around 25.15 GB.I had even forgotten to take a backup before upgrading to PR 1.3. Still all my Photos,Videos,Documents are as they were before upgrading.
Thankfully i can heave a sigh of relief now
    Cheers,
    Goks

  • E1200 V2 with no "internet access policy" in built-in web-based setup

I just bought a factory refurbished E1200.  The label on the bottom says it is a Version 2 model.  When I purchased it, it was loaded with 2.0.02 firmware but I upgraded the firmware to 2.0.04
My problem is that I'm trying to setup MAC address-based restrictions thru the manual/web-based setup and when I click on the "Access Restrictions" tab, I only have simple "Parental Controls" and not the advanced "Internet Access Policy".
Is it possible that I have a mislabeled V1 device?  If that is the case, how is it that I was able to upgrade the firmware using firmware from the V2 downloads section.
Do V! and V2 units use the same firmware but  more importantly, how do I upgrade the built-in software so that I have the advanced "Internet Access Policy" controls?
    Thanks!
    Eric
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Very strange indeed then!  My subtab only has "Parental Controls" listed.
I've compared it to the one shown here  ( http://ui.linksys.com/files/E1200/2.0.00/inter_access.htm ) - and mine does not look like this at all!
I think i have a mislabeled V1 model or at least V1 software loaded,
Does anyone know if it is possible to download and reload the software that is built in to the router or do I need to return it and get a (hopefully) new one?
    Thanks!

  • Mi424wr-gen3I no internet access from secondary subnet / router

    All,
I am looking to provide internet access to my internal LAN / WLAN devices on another router.  I have configured my second router to connect to the 192.168.1.0/24 network on the mi424wr LAN.
Static routes: 192.168.2.0/24  next hop 192.168.1.254 (secondary router interface connected to m1424wr LAN)
Firewall policy filter: Network Home  Inbound and outbound allow access sourced and destined to both subnets.
I have layer 3 conectivity between the routers but I am not able to browse the internet from secondary router 192.168.2.0 network. My default router on the 192.168.2.0/24 is the 192.168.1.1 router.
I tried to modifiy the DNS setting for devices on the 192.168.2.0 net but nothing works.  Used 192.168.1.1 (mi424wr interface which the setting for the 192.168.1.0 net devices. Even tried using verizon's DNS server 68.237.161.12 but no internet access.  The mi424wr does have a dns server setting which I tried to statically add 192.168.2.x host but that did not work.
So I am not sure if the mi424wr DNS server is not allowing any other subnets beside the 192.168.1.0/24 to access its DNS services or some other policy is needed to be created.  My secondary router is not NATing and at a loss.
Tried to research other methods of using my secondary router to connect to internet with the mi424wr-gen3I but nothing seems worth trying.  Setting the mi424wr-gen3I to bridge mode would be an option but have not seen any configuration for the REV I router vesion.  My last setup worked in bridge mode and STB were functional but VOD was always very choppy.  Seem there are some QoS setting the mi424wrI has configure to improve traffic priority for video.
    Any assistance appreciated.
    Rich

As STX said.  All you need to do is to connect an ethernet cable from a lan port of the Verizon router to the wan port of your own router.  Your own router needs to be configured with an address on the 192.168.1 subnet, either dhcp or static, yours is you say at 192.168.1.254 as is mine.  Then you should have configured the dhcp side of your router with a subnet other than 192.168.1 which apparently you have done.  You do not need static routes or anything else for devices on the 192.168.2 subnet to access the internet, other than valid DNS server addresses - did you set valid dns servers addresses in the static ip internet connection on your router?  You could set it to 192.168.1.1 and pick up whatever dns the vz router is using or you could set it dns servers of your choice, personally I set mine to opeDNS server addresses.
What kind of router is the second router?
Your description of your setup sound OK and the only difference I see between your setup and mine is that you say your second router is not NATing

  • Is it possible to be connected with a 3G modem for internet access and a WiFi router for printer sharing at the same time?

For our only internet access we have a 3G wireless modem. I have since purchased a WiFi printer and router to connect all the comptuters to in the house. The PCs have no problem with using both the 3G connection and the WiFi signal at the same time to print, however, the MacBook Pro will not connect to the 3G network and the router, it will drop the internet access from the modem and attempt to connect via WiFi (which has no internet access). Is there a solution that is available to remedy this? I attempted to create an adhoc printer network, however, the macbooks again will not print off of this, only the PCs. And I'm getting a bit frustrated overall with this.

The 3G wireless modem is on one of the PC's correct?
Why don't you pass the Internet through the Ethernet port to the router via Cat5 cable, then have that transmit a Wifi signal that everything else can use, then connect the printer to the router for print sharing?
You would have to turn off the wifi on the comptuer with the 3G modem as it's physically connected to the router and can't connect to the other machines as they are all connected to the router for sharing.
The Mac has the ability to pass, Internet Sharing in the System Preferences.
Do you have software for the Mac to run the 3G modem?

  • How to configure Internet access?

    Hello !
I'm running Solaris 8 now and would like to know what I must do to get Internet access.
I have a (hardware) Internet router in the network which I use from all the other (Windows-) stations in the network and which I can ping from my Solaris machine...
    What's next?

Put the address of Ur router in the /etc/defaultrouter file.
Check the /etc/nsswitch.conf file and see that the host entry in it has a "dns" infront of it , apart from "files".
Make entries of Ur nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf

  • Why no internet access after Safari reinstallation (router does)?

Since yesterday I have a massive problem I hope someone can help me out.
To start with I couldn´t email attachments since a few months. Yesterday I thought a re-installation of Safari (browser recommended by the provider) might cure that as I thought recent upgrades (recommended by apple to install) caused that problem which was not there last year.
So I downloaded Safari from apple.com. From that on I can´t get any internet access anymore (only a few minutes after the first start, then never again), even after spending 40 minutes on my providers extremely expensive hotline no solution (other than that the friendly lady told me to contact this forum). My router has internet access, and the cable between router and my Mac is definetely fine, but when I open the internet-access window, the connection immiadetely crashes always.
I checked network utilities and found no failure, I tried different ways of access via the network settings, nothing works. I assume it has something to do with the re-installation of Safari, but why on earth should the standard Safari 1.2-version from Apples own website create such a mess?
Shall I install firefox? Shall I dump the Safari-version installed yesterday and install a copy of the updated version from my office computer instead? What else could cause the problem? Are my network settings wrong? Should I log in via "manual" or DHCP (the provoders hotline told me I should re-type PPP settings. Though that is clearly to see a no-option with Ethernet she kept telling me so. Isn´t PPP only for modem-connection?), or via PPoE? Or shall I re-install the router?
I would be more than glad if someone could help me.
    I-Mac 20"   Mac OS X (10.3.2)
    I-Mac 20"   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

We can keep it in English as its an english speaking forum and therefore non-germans who might have the same problem could participate. If for you German is better I´m fine with it. Most settings on my Mac are in German so if it becomes too specific, german is anyway necessary.

  • 871W configuring Internet access

I am trying to replace a Dlink 614+ router with a 871W. The Dlink had 3 hardwired computers and one wireless connection connected to the Internet using Earthlink PPOE and DSL.
The Dlink is configured with required PPOE Earthlink user name and password.
I find the SDM disk provided does not list the 871 but I decided to use the CD anyway. The next problem I find is the Dlink doesn't have a CHAP or PAP setting like the 871 when configuring the PPOE.
Unlike the Dlink, I can't figure where the 871 stores it's WAN IP address. The 871 DHCP does assign LAN IP addresses but there is no connection to the Internet.
Since I could not figure the 871 PPOE settings, I disabled the PPOE and enable the Dynamic IP setting instead. That did not help.
Then I addressed the Earthlink modem and set that up to make the PPOE connection. However I still had no Internet.
Next I tried to select static IP address and enter the gateway address of the external modem. Still didn't get Internet.
I bought back the Dlink, disabled the modem PPOE and plugged the the WAN port of the 871 into the Dlink lan and not even computers connected to to Dlink could get on the Internet.

I am going to list my adventures for anyone following this thread.
The first thing I did was upgrade from 12.3 to 12.4 and select c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-9.T7.bin. Turns out I didn't have enough RAM for a different version.
The above decision ran me into my first problem with farkascsgy configuration. The problem is that there are two different versions of IOS ADVANCED SECURITY and ADVANCED IP SERVICES. The version farkascsgy is for ADVANCED IP SERVICES. Another reference on Techrepublic http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-1035_11-6102399.html uses the same ADVANCED IP SERVICES. In both cases there are more than one vlan.
Problem was I had the IOS ADVANCED SECURITY and that version has only a default vlan1.
In order to try to solve my Internet connection problem, I loaded the router so that I could use SDM. I noted that SDM placed the line ip address dhcp client-id FastEthernet4 under interface Dialer0. Later Cisco support would concur with farkascsgy that the line should read ip address negotiated. The Cisco support engineer did have me take out the lines
Dialer idle-timeout 0, Dialer persistent and dialer-group 1 found in farkascsgy as well as elsewhere on the Internet. That didn't fix the problem. I was asked to put in debug ppp nego and that showed the Pap authentication was failing. I reenter the ppp pap sent-username “username” password “password” and that allowed the authentication. Turns out Chap lines are not needed.
I could ping to an IP address but the DNS was not working. I tried to use the information in Cisco 850 Series and Cisco 870 Series Access Routers Software Configuration Guide to configure VPDN. However a Cisco Support said “I must tell you that
VPDN configuration is the old way to set up a pppoe connection, right now
    you do not need it.”
The DNS settings was the next big difference between farkascsgy configuration and what I had to come up with. Apparently farkascsgy version relies on Domain line which I don't have.
I did have the Earthlink DNS servers listed before I talked to Cisco support:
    ip name-server 207.69.188.185
    ip name-server 207.69.188.186
Cisco support had me add ip dns server. From other Internet source, it appears that this just provides a local DNS server.
The next change was to add the DNS servers to DHCP pool. The Cisco support explaination was “Just to re-state, the dns-server statement inside the DHCP pool gives the DNS IP to the clients; and the ip name-server command in global configuration on the router is used by the router itself to look for the names on the Internet and hand them down to the clients. The router works as a relay agent for the DNS queries”
The final Wireless setup does match farkascsgy version.

  • Configure internet access on sunblade 150

    Hey everyone,
Before I start, Ive been using unix for about half a year so a bit of a noob. Ive re-installed Solaris 8 on a sunblade 150.
Ive installed gnome and firefox, Ive configure my ip in the host file.
I would like to try and connect to the internet, the sunblade connect though a lan though a hub.
I can ping and ftp to my linux/NT machines.
I now have no idea what to do?
Ive been googleing for a while and thought I should try and ask here I guess you guys would be able to answer this in a flash?!
    Thanks in advance

I just finished re-installing my Solaris 10 x86 system (new motherboard and some other cards, so a re-install was the cleanest method).
You'll need to gather the DNS information from your ISP.
I happen to have a cable modem and a router connected to it.
My home LAN goes thru that router then the cable modem, to get to the Internet.
The router's configuration setup grabbed the IP's of their DNS servers and they were visible in the config screens.
Alternatively, if you have a Win9x system that successfully surfs the web, WINIPCFG can show those DNS addresses.
Do the following on the SB150, as root user:
    (1) Edit your /etc/nsswitch.conf file and add 'dns' to the hosts line, space delimited.
    (2) If you have a router as I do...
touch /etc/defaultrouter then edit the file, placing the IP address of that router -- only the IP address. e.g. 192.168.1.1
    (3) Review the contents of your /etc/inet/hosts file. No typos?
The /etc/hosts file is actually a link to /etc/inet/hosts.
    (4) touch /etc/resolv.conf
edit that file and enter the necessary information -- format is TAB delimited:
    <b>domainname <ISPNAME> (e.g. aol.net, comcast.net, sbc.com)
nameserver <DNS IP address number 1>
nameserver <DNS IP address number 2></b>
Note that the domainname is NOT <i>www...</i>
My ISP happens to show me three DNS servers, you can include as many as you desire.
Save the files and reboot the system because the info is only read at bootup.

  • No internet access..connected to router fine, did ping tests, still no internet

I am trying to get my pc running windows xp connected to the wireless network.  I've gone through all the troubleshooting I can find on the connection.  All the trouble shooting shows that the connections are fine, yet going into explorer I get a message that there is no internet connection.  Very, very frustrated.  Help.

You didn't give a lot of information to go on.
What did you ping?  Did it complete or not?
Does your PC get a 192.168.1.x IP address, or does it get a 169.254.x.x. address?
    Can you ping the router?
Can you login to the router?
If so, what is the status of your WAN connection on the main status page?
Have you tried a wired connection?
Post the results of a traceroute to google.com

  • Adding a new switch to the network....configuring internet access

Hey guys i need some help!
I am trying to set up my first switch. I am using the catalyst 2950 for learning on.
The network im on right now (the one with internet) has the following settings.
    10.22.227.???
    255.255.255.0
    10.28.43.254
The one i am learning on i connect to it by going to 192.168.0.1 this will allow me into it using the Cisco Network Assistant.
I have a laptop on port 1 using Vlan1 and i have Desktop on port 24 with vlan 1 and i have a cable from our 10.22.227 network pluged into port 23
I am able to see the computers and i can share files on it. What i dont understand being a noob is why i dont have any internet on ether computer.
I have setup up port 23 as a switch.
It seams like to me i would have to give the switch a ip address a subnet mask a default gatway and a dns of the 10.22.227 network on port 23.
Can some one throw some light on the subject and point me in a good direction?

    @de fl
If i go to a computer on the 10. network i can ping and go out and do everything i need to.
But if i try and ping with in the new switch (192) it does not work. I have added an ip address and a default gateway I have added a screen show on how our network is set up.
To me i think i need to add a ip address subnet mask and default gateway to the switch for the new switch to work.

  • Restrict wireless internet access on certain periods of time

    Hello,
We need help on setting up a network with some restrictions for the attached clients.
We're quite new at setting up a network at this size.
    Used devices:
    1x SRP 540 router
    1x SG 300-10P managed switch
    4x AP 541N accesspoint
    What we want to do:
    1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
    2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
    3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
    4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
    5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
    1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
    2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
    What we tried already:
    1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
    2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).
Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.
    Thanks already for your guidelines.
    Wim

what about the thoughts of radius for authentication which is connected to active directory for your wireless users. Then have those people you must limit access too during the day in their own security group that's only allowed to login to the domain during certain times of the day.
To limit sites or what they can do on the Internet will require a separate solution for content/URL filtering. Then you can make policies and apply to your security groups in active directory block by category, keyword, and so on.
This is all great assuming you can get these clients into AD.
Just a quick thought, hope it helps.

  • Can't get internet access with WRT54G router

I recently purchased a used WRT54G. I replaced my old wired linksys router with it and my hosts are able to get dhcp addresses from the router, but they cannot access the Internet. I have tried to use dchp release and renew buttons under the status tab in the router's web-based gui to get a public IP address, but can't get one. I have attempted to reset the router to its factory settings, but I still can't get the public IP. I have no problem getting an IP and Internet access with my old router and the WRT54G works if I disable its dchp and daisy chain it to the old one. Maybe I need to do something else for a complete reset of the router. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack

the router that you just purchased was maybe configured for a different network before that's why it did not work initially. after making the router back to its' factory defaults, you should reconfigure or set-up the router.. If you have CABLE ISP, enable ''mac address clone'' on the router's set-up page under the set-up tab. then check if you can get a public ip address after that.

  • Setting up a Router & Switch for internet access

    Hi all,
I need help setting up internet access on my cisco router.
It's a Cisco 2600, this is the setup.
I have a Cisco 3560 switch, and 5 clients connects to this switch.
I have one vlan defined VLAN 5.
I have a trunk port between the router and the switch.
My question is how to setup internet access between my switch and router?
Please if you can send config commands? I am not that fimiliar with router setup.
I know I need to setup a routing protocol, but need to know the command for that.

    Hi,
You need to nat on the 2600 router and you need a default route on the router.
How is router connected to WAN ?
Have you got multiple vlans on the switch? Is the switch doing routing or is it Layer2 ?
Post your config so that we can give you the missing commands
    Regards

  • No Internet Access with Static IP and RVS 4000

I have an RVS 4000.  I have several PC's to which I have assigned static IP addresses.  I have recently upgraded most of the PC's to Win 7 (64) machines.  I updated the firmware on the RVS4000 to 1.3.3.5 in conjunction with this.  After such update (and actually before as well) I could not assign a static IP address to a PC and have access to the internet.  It connects fine to my LAN, just no internet access.  This is also affected on several other machines running Win XP and Win 2003 Server, so it's not just this computer.
    I have:
         1.  Shut down (powered off/unplugged) everything, router, DSL modem, switches, server, etc.
         2.  As I said firmware is current.
         3.  Yes, DNS servers and gateway, subnet, etc. are all correctly specified on the PC.
         4.  Router is set for gateway mode.
         5.  Set to only IPV4.
The only way it allows internet access is to use DHCP.  I've even tried taking the IP address via DHCP and manually assigning the DNS servers and that works fine, but as soon as I assign a static IP internet access is immediately gone.
There must be something I'm missing, but I can't seem to find it.
Everything worked fine prior to the conversion of the Win 7 machines, i.e. I had several PC's with static IP's and no problems.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

As an addendum, if I turn off the Firewall (internet access policy to disable) it will allow the static IP computer to have internet access.  I have the DHCP range set to be .5 - .54 and am using a static ip outside this range.  The Internet access policy is to restrict those PC's getting IP via DHCP.
