Configuring ldap on mailserver to feed contacts into Mail

I am trying to configure a machine so that when the user is sending an email and starts typing into the "to" field, it will populate from the user database on the corporate mail server. I went to Mail->Preferences->Composing and hit the Configure LDAP... button, and added my mailhost in. The Server Info is:
Name: mailhost
Server: mailhost.mydomain.com
Port: 389 (no ssl)
Search Base: ou=people, o=mydomain
Scope: subtree
Authentication: None
But I go into a new mail window and start typing in the to: field and no autocompletes are offered other than addresses that the user has sent mail to. In other words, it acts exactly as it did before I started!
I can open the Directory Utility and look at my mailhost entry, Services. Under Connection, I have the name and Server as above, SSL and custom port off, and have tried it with Ignore server referrals both on and off. Under "Search & Mappings", "Access this LDAPv3 server using" the pull down is "From Server" If I pop the Access list, I get the same search base as I put in above. And the Security tab is all not checked. Next I go to the Search Policy, and I add /LDAPv3/mailhost.mydomain.com in both the Authentication and Contacts list. I put it last in the Authentication and first in the Contacts. In both places the Search: pull-down says "Custom path".
Ok, so does anyone see what I've messed up?

From Thunderbird export contacts as LDIF. Copy the file over to your Mac and import it in Address Book.

trying to move from Outlooks 2011 for Mac into Mac Mail and really struggling.
Mail doesn't seem to import anything but 'mailboxes' and doesn't seem to read any of the export formats Outlooks offers. (Outlook says tab delimited, Mail claims to want a CSV)
I can't even figure out how to DISPLAY contacts in Mail. If I know the email address it will autocomplete, and it says add sender but doesn't seem to ask for a name.

You want to export your contacts as a vcard if that is an option, then import them into Contacts, not Mail. Mail use Contacts.
To display Contacts in Mail, click New Message, and then the blue + sign at the far right of the To field.

Importing pc outlook express contacts into mail on new mac

Hello,
I've been looking thru the support archives and can't find anything current on this issue (archived stuff is 2009). Is there any easy way to import your contact info from pc outlook express to mail 4.5 on a new macbook pro? I'm not sure which version the outlook express is, (it's my father-in-law's machine) he just made the switch to a mac. He is not very computer savy, hence the reason I am posting the question... I have looked at o2mac and was wondering if it can be done easily without purchasing an outside application... I have a brother-in-law who is working on the problem but he is soo pc oriented that he cannot find himself around the mac without thinking in pc-mode so I'm now trying to help (I'm AM a mac person...) but not outlook! He says that when he tries to import it comes in all gobbley-gooked (his words)....

LDAP Bind Failure: Can't contact LDAP server in Presentation Server

I have configured LDAP configuration in the RPD and am able to connect to the LDAP from the BI server. Its returning the information i need when i test through the admin tool. But when i try to log in from the PS using the same network id and password, it gives me the below error:
State: 08004. Code: 10018. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: 08004] [nQSError: 10018] Access for the requested connection is refused. [53003] LDAP bind failure: Can't contact LDAP server. (08004).
I know for sure, the network connectivity is working as i get my results back from the BI Server. Please advise, if i need to change other configurations on the Presentation end. As my network folks have run out of ideas. Thx!

Can you go to the server, open a CMD windows and do "ping nsldap.companyname.com" and see if it works. If it works it could be that the LDAP port is blocked by a firewall or OBIEE is not able to make a connection. Make sure you are using the correct port as well. Install an LDAP client in your OBIEE Server and test that you can connect to your LDAP server from your OBIEE Server, not from the RPD. You can use this:

Configure LDAP question in Mail Preferences

In trying to troubleshoot my question two posts down, I went to Mail Preferences to confirm I had checked the item that says to "Automatically complete addresses". It was checked. What does the toggle box next to it marked "Configure LDAP" do?

LDAP is a common directory service. It's typically used for accounts in network environments (e.g. a list of everyone's username and password), but it can also be used as a contact database.
When auto-completing email addresses, Mail can query a LDAP server to find users email addresses - think of it as a central address book rather than your own personal one.
It's more common in large organizations where you don't want hundreds of people having to remember everyone else's email address - add them once to the directory and everyone who's connected to that server will see them. For individual/personal use it's less useful.

Follwing is step by step solution to configure LDAP server for EP
1) Ensure that the UM Configuration is set to Database Only or that the current
    UM configuration creates new users in the database.
    a) Navigate the the UM Configuration UI (System Administration -> System
        Configuration -> UM Configuration) and select the Data Sources tab.
    b) Choose Database Only or any Read Only dataSource.
    c) Save.
    d) Restart J2EE Engine.
2) Create a new user ID in the portal and assign it to the Super Administration role. Log off and then log back on to the portal with this ID to ensure you can access the administrative function using the ID from the database. This ensures that you can logon and perform administration tasks even if the portal is unable to connect to an LDAP source.
3) Establish the initial UM configuration.
   a) Navigate the the UM Configuration UI (System Administration -> System
       Configuration -> UM Configuration) and select the Data Sources tab.
   b) Choose the most appropriate DataSource configuration from the delivered list
       (e.g. iPlanet, Novell, MS ADS, etc.)
   c) Complete UM configuration for the first LDAP data source using the User
       Management Configuration Tool.
   d) Restart the J2EE Engine.
   e) Logon to portal server with an LDAP user to test the connection. If there are
       problems, use the database user ID you created in step #2 to logon to the
       portal and resolve connectivity issues.
4) Capture information required for creating a new UM Configuration for Multiple
    LDAP sources.
    a) Log back on to the portal using an administrator ID.
    b) Navigate back to the UM Configuration Tool and select the Data Sources
        tab.
    c) Click Download to download a copy of the appropriate XML file. Save this
        file to your local filesystem for editing.
    d) Navigate to LDAP Server tab and verify connection information to the LDAP
        server. Click Test Connection to ensure credentials are correct. Save the
        configuration before continuing to the next step.
    e) Navigate to Direct Editing tab.
    f) Scroll down to the LDAP Settings section and copy the contents to MS
        WordPad or other text editor (configuration document).
5) Create a new UM configuration file for multiple LDAP data sources.
    a) Open the dataSourceConfiguration_multiLDAP_db.xml file (previously
        downloaded) using a text editor (other than Notepad) and locate the
        <dataSource.../> section for the CORP_LDAP. Copy the entire section
        from <dataSource> to </dataSource> to the clipboard.
    b) For each additional LDAP server, paste the copy into the document after the
        original </dataSource> ending tag for the CORP_LDAP source. Change
        the name of the data source for pasted copy to CORP_LDAP_X or some
        other value. This value becomes a data source identifier for UME and prefixes
        the principal Ids.
    c) For each LDAP data source, locate the <privateSection> within the
        <dataSource> tag and enter the following lines if they are not present:

    d) Navigate to the Direct Editing tab.
    e) Comment out all of the LDAP settings which begin with ume.ldap.access.*
        such as server name, passwords, etc. that are now manually configured in
        the XML file.
    f) Click Save to save the properties. (You may also wish to make a copy of the
       new settings and save them to a file for recovery purposes). g) Restart the
       J2EE engine.
7) Test the configuration.

If you have a Mac, create the groups in Address book application.
You can also log into icloud.com and create the groups there. They will sync to your iPad.

I meant by "not compatible" that all the solutions that I found on the web did not work, especially the "Microsoft exchange" one.
Fortunately I found on the comments of the first website you mentioned the right answer for me, which I copy below:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CardDav Account.
Enter the following information in the fields:
Server: google.com
User Name: Enter your full Google email address
Password: Your Google account password
Select Next at the top of the screen to complete the setup.
After you have completed the setup, open the Contacts app on your device. Syncing should begin automatically.
Additional Information
Note: Make sure that SSL is enabled (under Advanced settings), and that the port is 443.
If you are using application based special password go to https://accounts.google.com/Se... and instead of your password put that special code and u r done.

Runnig 10.6.8 on a MacBook PRO.....

The easiest fix if you're running Snow Leopard is to export all your contacts, then import them into something like google (I already had a gmail account), and then just use google to sync your contacts instead of icloud (via the sync with Google button in the address book settings).
Its a bit sluggish to update, but it works well. You can then point your iphone, and other iOS devices to use google for contacts too.
If Apple don't want to look after their customers, other companies will gladly do so....

When you ask a question, please include the version of Mac OS X on your computer. iOS is not a Mac operating system.
Assuming you are running OS 10.9.1:
Open Contacts. Click File in the menu bar and select New Group. Enter the name of the group in Contacts on the left.
Go back to All Contacts (on the left) then drag and drop the names you want in that group on to the folder you just named.
Repeat as necessary for other groups.
Note that the names remain, as they should, in All Contacts, even after you have added them to a group.. You can delete a group if you want. The names will still remain in All Contacts.

Go to your Contacts on your Mac - if more than one pick the most accurate; delete any contacts you don't want. Select all the contacts, and from the File menu choose 'Export...'>'Export vCard'. Save the resultant file safely: it will be your 'master' list.
Now delete all the contacts from whichever device has the most in it. Sync with iCloud. If necessary repeat with different Macs. The result should be that the deletions sync to iCloud and in the end you finish up with empty Contacts lists everywhere.
Now you can import your saved file to one of your Macs. Make sure you import it under 'iCloud' not 'On My Mac'. Then it should propagate iCloud and any other devices. Keep the saved file at least until you are satisfied that all is in order.

1. Open Nokia Suite and Click on Contacts
2. Select all contacts. Click on File -> Import Contacts .Specify the folder that you are creating . For ex: C:\vcards.
Now you have multiple .vcf files in this folder.
To combine the multiple .vcf into a single .vcf
a . Open command line interface (click Start -> Run, or windows button + r and type cmd to launch it).
b. Navigate to the folder where multiple vCard files are by entering cd "C:\vcards", if the folder is there.
c. Enter the command copy /a *.vcf combinedfile.vcf in the command prompt.
3. Now add this file as an attachment and mail it to your email address. Open the email on your iphone and click on the attachment.
4. It will prompt you to add the contacts. Now you have all the contacts on your Iphone.
