Configuring Mail 3.2 and Exchange

I have searched the discussions here but have not been able to solve my problem: I am trying to set up Mail so that it syncs with a new Exchange mailbox I have. But, I can't find detailed information on how to set up the account in Mail given the information provided by the Exchange provider. I contacted them, but they are proving to be less than helpful.
Here is what they give me:
1. E-mail address
2. Username
3. Domain (= MAIL)
4. Proxy server for Exchange (= exchange.serviceprovidername.com)
5. Microsoft Exchange server (= MAIL092.mail.lan)
So....with the above info I cannot get the Mail account working. Not even close. For example, where does domain come into play? What SMTP server do I use (asked by the Mail account set up wizard)?
Does anyone have any advice on how to set it up?
Thanks a lot for your time and advice.

If you find a tutorial please let me know. My e-mail hosting company has ticked me off so much over this issue I am going to change.
Nonetheless, I still need to now how to do it.
Thanks.

  • Could we have the same email address setup in Mac mail as POP and Exchange (only one Mac mail)?

Is it possible to have one mail account setup in two different ways (as POP and Exchange) in one Mail App in one device?

Some misguided email operators allow only one connection to an account at a time. (I had one like this myself, and to add insult to injury, when you disconnected, you weren't logged off from the server for up to 15 minutes later, so you couldn't just switch to another computer immediately.)
Who provides your email service? If you don't know how to answer this question, try '''Help|Troubleshooting Information''', clear "Include account names", click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste (right-click|paste, or ctrl+v) into your reply here.

  • Wow, I'm really confused re: Mail 3.0 and Exchange support

OK, it appears as though Mail 3 doesn't in fact support direct Exchange connections, or even OWA access.
So far as I can tell, all access to my folders and inbox are handled via IMAP(S). If that's the case, what is the purpose for the OWA Server field when creating an "Exchange" account in Mail? There is some cryptic blurb about filtering via OWA, but nothing specific.
I find it strange that Apple would essentially create an alias for IMAP called "Exchange", when in fact there is no actual connection support for Exchange (beyond the ubiquitous IMAP).
What's killing me in the IMAP realm are the public folders on the corporate Exchange servers. Our IT department claims that there is no way to "hide" those folders from me, which I don't necessarily believe, and their solution to excruciatingly slow access is to use Outlook. Some of the tricks that others have used don't work here for some reason, as Mail users never get a Subscription List in the account info. Mail just spins for 20-30 minutes and never adds anything to the list of folders. Ugh.
    -David

Heh, in the Windows dominated corporate world, the IT department is always going to be part of the problem.
I can connect without a problem, regardless of whether I configure the account as IMAP or Exchange (with the OWA addition). It just doesn't appear as though the OWA setting actually does anything for me. Of course, there's no indication as to what this setting should do.
The basic problem I have is that our public folders (useless in all cases, as I'm sure they are at most companies) have tens of thousands of documents in them and this brings Mail to its knees.
I've seen several people not that one could use the folder subscription dialog to check/uncheck folders to include in the main window. Unfortunately, regardless of how the account is defined (IMAP or Exchange), Mail is never able to enumerate the folders.
I did just post a work-around that I jimmied out and the system is masked, though the underlying issue is still there.
We tried to convince the IT people to turn off public folder referrals for IMAP clients, but, well... you know IT staff.

  • Mail 4.4 and Exchange 2010: not staying connected

I am using Mail 4.4 connected to an Exchange 2010 account, and with an SMTP server instead of the actual Exchange connection to send outgoing mail due to the "no from: field" issue.
I have noticed that Mail is not staying connected to the server. IIRC, Exchange is intended to be a live connection, and messages that arrived quite some time ago are nowhere to be seen until I click "Get Mail." Up to now, I've relied on IMAP with IDLE for mail, as I'd rather receive everything in real time instead of relying on a scheduled polling interval.
Why is this? Is it just an issue of being Exchange 2010 instead of Exchange 2007, or is there something I can do to fix it?
My iPhone running iOS 4.2 works perfectly with the same Exchange account.

IMAP with IDLE for mail, as I'd rather receive everything in real time
Certainly in the current version of Mail, you'll get more of a push effect if you use IMAP IDLE instead of EWS for communication with an Exchange server. Exchange Web Services feel less responsive.
The Get Mail routine is much quicker with IMAP IDLE than with EWS. With EWS: the more mailboxes you have, the longer it takes.
However: if you use IMAP instead of EWS, some features of Exchange will appear less graceful. Noticeable with e.g. messages relating to calendaring.
(Note to self: I should review this after our organisation has completed its transition from Exchange Server 2003 to Exchange Server 2010.)
messages that arrived quite some time ago are nowhere to be seen until I click "Get Mail."
Using EWS: in the absence of a real-time/push effect, three approaches come to mind:
    a) pull manually (click Get Mail)
    b) prefer a schedule
    c) simply move or delete any message to trigger an update of that mailbox.
For my Inbox, I prefer (c). An update of the Inbox alone is much faster than the (Get Mail) update of all mailboxes.
Eventually, I guess that Apple will improve Mail to make it respond immediately to changes on the EWS side.
Then, I'll go back to using e.g. GrowlMail to weed most messages immediately, as each one appears (much more pleasing than ploughing through a massive Inbox).

  • Mail 4.4 and Exchange 2010SP1

    Hello,
Let me give a little situation description first.
We have a Exchange 2010 SP1 mailserver and a mixed envirnment of Apple and Windows devices.
Everything was tested and checked on the Exchange server, that all should be fine.
On the Apple computer we are facing Mail issues with a few users.
The problem is that all the email is available in the webmail, but is does not or very very slowly show up in the Mail app.
The Mac OS X version is 10.6.x (we also tried 10.7.x but neither solves the issue)
I've been looking around and reading post on a lot of site, but no solution so far.
I found one post that looks very close to the issue we have, but it is for 10.3.x and I couldn't find a confirmation or other message is still exists in 10.6 or other versions.
    Article TS1985
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1895?viewlocale=en_US
For a lot of users everything is working just fine.
We noticed the problem exists mainly with users that have a large mailbox (3GB or larger)
We tried several times to recreate the account but no luck.
Making the mailboxes smaller by deleting stuff is not an option.
Mail does show the folder structure.
When we look in the console for log items, we can find the following messages.
Received EWS error: Error Domain=MFEWSErrorDomain Code=293 UserInfo=0x117fbd10 "The request timed out"

  • Mail.app and Exchange Server Problems?

I am an Apple Mail user and my university just switched to an Exchange Server 2003 for student e-mail. The university is only supporting Entourage, but I have configured Mail to work with Exchange without any major problem. This week, I have noticed that I have a problem where Mail.app will say that I have four new e-mails in my Exchange in-box. When I click on my Exchange in-box, no new e-mail appears. After experiencing this problem for about a week, I finally logged onto our Exchange web access site for the university. I discovered that I did indeed have four new e-mails in my in-box, but these e-mails were not showing up in Mail.app. Interestingly, all of the e-mails were undeliverable e-mails that had popped back because I had the wrong address. I am wondering why these e-mails would show up in on web access, but not show up in Mail.app.
I have spoken with our university tech. support numerous times and they have been unable to figure out the problem. It seems this may be a Mail.app isse as opposed to an Exchange problem.
    Thanks,
    Joe Biedlingmaier

I use Exchange at work and have 5 Macs working with it w/o problems. The trick is to correctly specify SMPT and Outlook Web Access Server.
    Do the following:
When you create a new mail account, choose IMAP or Exchange (if it shows on the list)
for Email Address specify your exchange email address
    continue
for Incoming Mail Server: use name of the server without any prefixes such as mail. (The example shown under the box is wrong. It took me forever to figure it out)
for username and password use the same one you use when log in into exchange webmail
    continue
for outgoing email server use the name of the server, again without smtp.
you may need to use authentification in order to send mail. In that case use the same user and password as when you log into your exchange
I was doing it as I was writing this to make sure it workes. It does.

  • E-mail and Exchange Active Sync

Planning on configuring E-mail in your Xperia phone? Or do you experiencing problems syncing your E-mails? If yes this might be the topic for you.
Below you’ll find some guides on how to setup E-mail sync and troubleshoot any problems.
    POP3/IMAP
POP4/IMAP E-mail accounts are the most commonly used. This guide will show you the steps of configuring your E-mail manually if your E-mail server doesn’t support auto setup. Please note that the Next button won’t be lit if you have typed an incorrect E-mail address containing characters or symbols that are not supported.
    Configuring POP3 or IMAP E-mail
Go to the E-mail application and enter your E-mail address and password. Now press Manual setup.
Chose the kind of E-mail server your provider is using. If uncertain check this with your E-mail provider.
Under Incoming settings enter your username, password and server details. If you’re uncertain about these details contact your E-mail provider. But in general your username is the same as your E-mail address but some providers may use a specific user name for your account.
Here you can also set if the server should delete the E-mails if you delete them in your phone. This setting is by default always set to Never.
Next step is Outgoing settings. If your E-mail provider also has an SMTP server you can enter the details for sending E-mails here. This normally requires a sign-in on the SMTP server. If yes, check the Require sign-in box and enter your E-mail address and password. As above if you’re uncertain about any of these details contact your E-mail provider.
If your E-mails provider lacks an SMTP server you can check if your network operator provides an SMTP server and use their details. Using your network operators SMTP generally doesn’t require sign-in.
Now it’s time to set how and when to check for new E-mails. Set and check the options you desire.
The last step of the setup is to enter an account name and your name (signature).
    Troubleshooting POP3/IMAP E-mail
First make sure that you have a working Internet connection in the phone.
You can download Internet and MMS settings for your phone by going to Setting > Xperia > Internet settings.
If you have a working Internet connection but still not able to connect to your E-mail server or sync your E-mails check that no Proxy server within your APN settings may be blocking this. You can check this by going to Settings > More (Wireless & networks) > Mobile networks > APN or Access Point Names > Your Internet APN. Check if any details are set for Proxy and Proxy port. If yes you can try to delete them (temporarily) and save the APN. Now check if you’re able to connect or sync with your E-mail server.
You can also verify suspected Internet connection issues by trying via a Wi-Fi network instead.
    E-mail disappearing?
By default our E-mail application is set to only mirror the server. So if an E-mail on the server is deleted it will also be removed from the phone at the next sync.
    Syncing sent E-mail?
This is not possible on POP3 configurations. To be able to sync sent E-mails in the phone you must have configured an IMAP or Exchange Active Sync account.
    Problem sending E-mail?
If you’re not using the same SMTP server as network operator in your phone you might experiencing problems sending E-mail via mobile networks. If this is the case you can connect to a Wi-Fi network to send E-mail or check with your SMTP provider if the outgoing port can be encrypted.
If none of the tips above helps you, you can try to download a third party E-mail application from Google Play store. This can be easy way to rule out where a specific problem may be located.
    Exchange ActiveSync
Our Xperia phones come with the built-in Android native client for synchronizing your corporate E-mails, calendar and contacts. Here are some things worth double checking if you would experience any problems with Exchange sync.
Begin with checking your sync account details and if you haven’t configured the Exchange ActiveSync account yet see the instructions bellow.
    Configuring a Exchange ActiveSync account
Go to the E-mail application and enter your corporate address and password. Then press next.
Don’t worry if the setup might fail at this point because most Exchange servers don’t have auto setup enabled. In this case just press Manual setup. Please note that the Next button won’t be lit if you have typed an incorrect E-mail address containing characters or symbols that are not supported.
Now our E-mail application needs to know what kind of account you want to configure. Press Exchange ActiveSync.
This will bring you to the incoming settings screen. Enter domain\user name, password and server address. If you’re uncertain about your details contact your IT department to check which credentials to use. You will also need to know if you should accept all SSL certificated or use a client certificate.
When all details are correct you will have to setup how and when to sync. So enter and check the options you desire.
When you see this screen the setup is complete.
If your Exchange server requires certain security settings you might see the following pop-up after finishing the setup. If this is the case you must approve the security update in order to sync E-mail, calendar and contacts.
Pressing OK will give you a screen showing you what permissions you need to give the E-mail application. These permissions/ security settings are set from the Exchange server and depend on your corporate IT policy.
    Troubleshooting Exchange Active Sync
    ActiveSync protocol version
You can check which Exchange ActiveSync protocols that are supported by your phone model in its white paper. http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/whitepapers/
Compare this with your server to make sure they’re compatible.
    “SERVER REQUIRES UNSUPPORTED SECURITY FEATURES”
If you get the error message above your Exchange server is using security settings which are not supported by the Android native Exchange ActiveSync application. Which security settings that your phone model supports depend on firmware version and phone model. If your company runs on security settings that the Android native mail application doesn’t support and you don’t plan to alter the security settings, an alternative is to download any of the dedicated Exchange ActiveSync applications from Google Play store.
    New meetings don’t sync?
If you have entered a new meeting in the phone and it doesn’t sync make sure that the meeting has been put into the correct account. When creating a new meeting in the calendar application make sure that you’ve chosen your ActiveSync account as calendar when creating the meeting.
How to use GAL (Global Address List)?
In most of our models you can access the GAL by opening the contacts application and tap the search icon. This will search the Global Address List on your exchange server. Our mail application also searches GAL when typing something in the To: field. Unfortunately we don’t have any default support at the moment for browsing the complete Global Address List.
For more information about what is supported by our Contacts, Calendar and E-mail applications please see this link (Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z). Or this link (Xperia Z1, Xperia Z ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact).

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Are you sure that your account is really configured for the ActiveSync protocol? Because we've seen this occur only when using IMAP with Hotmail/Outlook.com.
I suggest that you make sure that the account is configured as POP3 or EAS. Or use their own dedicated app.

  • Configure POP3, IMAP and exchange online

Configure POP3, IMAP and exchange online does not cause conflicts in outlook for my mail service

    Hello Wesleyhe,
You cannot use AD anything with EOP - if you mean exchange on-line protection.
you have to set a smart host on the SBS server to connect to EOP, you may need to add the EOP server ips to your network config
on the SBS server.  the smart host line (for the send connector on SBS server) is something like: yourdomainname-com.mail.protection.outlook.com.
Then you need to configure the outside ip for your SBS server access in the EOP admin area.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail and Exchange

    Hi,
I have set up my Exchange account without any hassles. Now I need to know, how do I get Mail to display my Exchange Calendar or how do I synchronise it in iCal and also my Contacts.

To configure calendar, you need to go in iCal preferences, open account, add account, and put your info regarding:
    user name
    password
    and (optional service) url.
but it could be not sufficient to connect on exchange correctly.
You probably ( if you haven't do that) go in utility dir, open "UTILITY DIRECTORY" and config the domain of the exchange server.
these links could be usefull, (leave all ports as default, the example here is only to use davmail):
    http://davmail.sourceforge.net/osxicalsetup.html to config iCal
    http://davmail.sourceforge.net/osxdirectorysetup.html to config utility directory

  • Mail and Exchange - Some tips

I just installed Mail 3.0 and connected it to my Exchange account at work. I went through a couple of speed bumps and referred to this forum a few times. I got it to work pretty well so I thought I'd share what I learned.
Mail was very slow, especially sending mail. One post in the forum said to put in a DNS server in the network settings, but my Mac was already configured that way so I needed to try something else.
I went to the account settings in Mail and clicked on "Advanced". My settings were wrong there. Yours may be different than mine, but if you check with your mail administrator you can verify. BTW I got these settings by looking at my iPhone
"Use SSL" should be checked. This will bring up port 993. I put "/" in the IMAP Path Prefix but looking at it later this setting isn't there anymore. Maybe it's the default.
I set Mail to look for new mail every minute. I'm not sure if my Exchange server pushes mail or not.
I don't have access to my corporate email directory like I do with Entourage. If anyone knows of a way to do that I would be most appreciative. Otherwise, I'll have to enter all my frequently used addresses. I continue to use Entourage for my address book because it synchs with the Mac address book. I still prefer to use Entourage's calendar function.
A plug for a product called MailTags. Mail doesn't have a way to create categories - something Entourage and other email clients have. MailTags adds that functionality. I'm using their public beta for Leopard and it seems to be working well enough for now.

WSY , I have the same problem , its for all my mac users .
try clearing up your inbox , archiving and delete all your old emails .

  • Mail and Exchange 2003

I am having a heck of a time getting Mail in Snow Leopard to work with Exchange 2003. Since Mail natively supports Exchange 2007 I have to use IMAP to connect to Exchange 2003. The problem I have is when Mail is running and communicating with Exchange it slows the server down to a point where it affects all other users connecting to Exchange. It causes long delays and Outlook displays a message stating it lost connection to Exchange and is waiting for a connection. If the user running Mac Mail closes Mail then the server is back to normal. I have seen other references to this in various forums however I am unable to find a fix. I tried configuring Mail to connect directly to Exchange via IMAP, and I have also tried using DavMail as a local mail gateway however Exchange slows down in both scenarios. What can I do?? The Mac user really wants to use Mail however I am close to the point of telling him it is not possible with Exchange 2003.

I'm having some kind of related problem, not slowness but connection to Exchange.
I have been successful in connecting my Iphone, and it works great with calendars and address book, but no way to get Mail to connect...
Any body who could help me would be more than welcome, as I feel the problem being around domain or something.
What is weird is that on the Iphone the number of parameters to set is limited to 5 plus description:
    Email
    Server
    Domain
    User
    Pwd
    Description
Plus a toggle switch for SSL
    In mail
    Description : Ok
    Address : Ok
    Complete name : I think I know
    Internal server :
    External Server :
    User ID : Ok
    Pwd :
    Then I advance
    External server Path: ???
    Internal Port:???
    External server Path : ???
    External Port :???
    Then in "sending server"
    Port: ??
    User ID : Ok
    Pwd : Ok
This a bit complex and I really do not understand why I can make it work on an Iphone seamless in a couple of minutes, and after hours of sweating this thing refuses to work on Snow Leopard.
    Many Thanks in advance.
PS : options are translated from French that's why they might not be the exact naming in Mac OS X 10.6.3 in English.

  • Mail.app and Exchange 2007

I'm trying to interface the Mac OS X Mail application to an Exchange 2007 server. I've configured Mail to use IMAP, and I've verified that IMAP is enabled on the server because I can receive mail just fine.
    I cannot send mail, however.
What kind of authentication does Exchange 2007 require for relaying outgoing SMTP mail? The Mac OS X Mail application has a number of settings for this, but none of the combinations I've tried seem to work.

What kind of authentication does Exchange 2007 require for relaying outgoing SMTP mail?
What authentication method used is based on how the server is setup. Nobody here can anwer that. You'll need to ask your mail server admins.

  • OWA receives mail long before Outlook (Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2010 and 2013)

I recently upgraded my Exchange environment to Exchange 2013 SP1. The Outlook users are now experiencing a delay when receiving email. When they do arrive they appear in batches, often 20-45 minutes after they were sent, from a mailbox on the same server.
Additionally, the mail appears instantly when you monitor the inbox using OWA. The users are experiencing this on both Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients configured in both cached and non-cached modes. This appears to be a problem with Outlook connecting to Exchange.
Any suggestion about how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
From your description, when users use OWA, they can receive emails normally. But if they use Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, there is a delay in receiving emails.
I recommend you use the Outlook safe mode to determine whether the problem is caused by add-ins. Also, please make sure users have installed the Outlook latest Service Pack.
If the issue persist, please create a new profile and check the result.
    Hope it helps.
    Best regards,
