Configuring my Airport Express and Cisco DCP3008 modem

Hi,
I have an airport express version 7.6.1
and a cisco modem dcp3008 and having issues trying to connect the two. I have called cisco and they told me they would have to reconfigure it for 60 dollars. Is there anyone that has any suggestions for how I could manually figure this out?
My cable/internet service is Charter.... and they can't do anything ha ha.

You can effectively extend the Cisco's wireless network by creating a roaming network with both routers. Note that this would require that both routers be interconnected by Ethernet. Since the Express will perform a new role, be sure to perform a "factory default" reset on it so that it will be in its "out-of-the-box" configuration.

I'm using AE purely for music distribution and have just bought a wireless modem for the internet (not a AE). However I can now only select either the AE network, OR the wireless internet network (it's BT HomeHub). Hence I can either play music or use the internet, but not together!
    Any ideas anyone..??
    Thanx

You should configure your AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the modem. The instructions are in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • @ Airport Express and BEWAN DSL MODEM : no internet ..why ?

    Hello,
I connect a BEWAN ADSL Modem to my Airport Express and create a Airport network to have internet access for my Ibook.
I have choose "Ethernet" for Internet access with DHCP parameter.
Here's what i see : the Bewan ADSL modem give to the airport a public IP for the ip address (that comes from my Internet Provider), a netmask and a router ip that is 192.168.1.1.
On my Ibook, i could connect to the airport (printing is ok) but I couldn't have internet access : blank page under Safari...
My Airport Express has the last Firmware....
I think is a trouble between the BEwan ADSL modem and the Airport because I have Internet access when i directly connect the Bewan Modem to the Ibook.. a routing trouble ?
Do i have to manually enter IP parameter of my Airport ?
Have you the same configuration ?
    Thanks for helping me fast.

    ouba john,
I'd recomend trying a reset and reconfigure. Your setup sounds pretty simple. Hold in the reset button on your AE until the light blinks, let it restart, and choose your unmodified Airport express from the drop down menu. Run Airport Setup assistant from the Utilitiies menu and try to let that program do all the tweaking for you. Once it's up and running, you can go into the wireless settings with Airport admin and reconfigure security if you wish.
This is "just give this a try" advice. It seems I've heard odd things about ADSL modems, so good luck

  • Airport express and comcast telephony modem

I just had Comcast setup cable modem/telephony in my new home.
Technician set up and was only able to get the internet to work if plugged directly from modem into network card on the PC notebook.
I replaced that cable with the airport express, got a green light. both the PC and the mac found the wireless connection and I had internet access from both.
About 2 days later I lost my internet connection. Both machines still find the wireless and report strong connection. but no browser connections.
Interestingly enough, the PC wanted to download some MS updates and was able to do that, but still no connection via IE, Safari, Firefox.
Talked with several techs from Comcast, finally last night I just go the one direct connection with cable working again.
Any other experiences like this??? I want to use wireless and just need to know what the best way to proceed may be.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Alexkywalker, Welcome to the discussion area!
Whenever you switch the Ethernet connection from a cable modem from one device to another you need to power down the modem. This will force the cable modem to forget the device it was talking with. The cable modem will then discover the new device and communicate with that.
BTW, the AirPort Express (AX) has an auto-sensing Ethernet port and therefore will work with any type of Ethernet cable.

  • Apple airport express and cisco linksys e-3000

How does one get the linksys e 3000 router to recognize an airport express station?

The "n" version of the AirPort Express is capable of operating on either the 2.4 or 5 GHz radio band ... but not simultaneously. That would mean it will attempt to connect to your E3000 on one or the other of its radios. This will typically be the 5 GHz radio if the AX is in the same room and the 2.4 GHz radio if it is farther away.
Note: The AirPorts do NOT support wide-channel (40 MHz) mode in the 2.4 GHz band. If your E3000 is configured for this; this may be the problem with it connecting.

  • Airport express versus Cisco EPC3925 wifi modem

Not a technical person - I have just upgraded my Optus account (Australia) and have been supplied a new Cisco wi-fi modem as mentioned above. I was goint to purchase a new airport express and connect my mac directly to it via LAN and WAN and have the benefit of a direct connection and still be wifi for airplay etc. Now I am told this Cisco is a router and modem - do I just use it and plug my mac to it and hopefully it allows wi fi for airplay - or do I use it purely as a modem replacing the old one and purchase the new airport express? Which is method is more efficient?

    Sorry I meant I have a Cisco DPQ3926 D3 WIFI modem

  • AIRPORT EXPRESS AND CONFIGURATION PROBLEM.YELLOW LIGHT NEVER STOP FLASHING.

good morning yesterday i bought an Airport express device.when I tried to install it ,the yellow light never stop falshing, for that was impossible to me to configure airport express.Do you have any idea to solve this bad problem?please help me!.thanks a lot.

    Hi Irenefromitaly,
have you tried to configure your Airport Express via Cable? That's faster and easier.
Or you press the reset button for 5 secs and keep your airport utility searching. wait for some minutes, its takes some time wirelessly..
    greetings

  • HT5022 i cannot install airport utility 5.6 onto my computer although i need it to configure an older airport express and base station

i cannot install airport utility 5.6 onto my computer although i need it to configure an older airport express and base station

Here is my method.. the software is free that is required.. always a good point.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

Anyone has an idea how to connect and configure my Airport express to an internet range extender which is plugged into mains?

You can connect it but with ethernet cable. You can not connect it by wifi to extend the range a second time.
BTW AE is rather sensitive to connect by wifi to non-apple wifi routers.

  • A Time Capsule, Airport Express and AT&T 2Wire walk into a bar...

Alas, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but my reserach keeps turning up separate answers.  So I thought I'd turn to this forum for some advice.  Ultimately I'm seeks suggestions on various ways to configure my network to allow easy backups, connection two rooms, and wirelessly print from anywhere.
    I have a:
Time Capsule (dual band) - used for Time Machine backups
    Airport Express (older)
    and new 2Wire 3800HGV-B wireless modem/router from AT&T (for U-verse internet/TV)
    My room configuration is:
Living room with TV, internet connected DVD player, and new AT&T 2Wire Wireless U-verse modem
Home office with 2 desktop comptuers (no wireless cards) and a USB printer.
Two roaming laptops which move around the rest of the house
The livingroom and the office can't be connected with a physical wire.
What I was hoping to do was setup my office with the Time Capsule in the office as a wired hub, and then use it as a wirelessly bridge to the 2Wire network.  But as I understand it, a Time Capsule can't be used as a bridge to a non-Apple product.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Alternately I could always get wireless cards for the desktop computers, but this leaves the printer.
I've read suggesitons of people who have used their TC as the primary router, disabling wireless on their AT&T 2Wire, and hooking the two together with ethernet.  Others who just join the TC to the 2Wireness network.  But really what I'm seeking is a way to join the two rooms.
Any thoughts?  Am I asking the right questions or providing the right information?
    Much thanks,
    dana.

So I figured I'd go with an initial suggestion and attached my TC via ethernet to the 2Wire modem/router in my living room, and make the TC my primary wireless router.
    Good plan
since both will be in the same room, I assume I need to disable wireless on the 2Wire
    Correct
What kind of configuration do I need to do on the TC, or do I just following the wizard and select 'Extend existing network'?
You can follow the guided setup or I can give you a step by step manual setup. In either case, you will configure the TC to "Create a wireless network".
("Extend" is only used if the TC connects using wireless only....you will be using Ethernet from one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2-Wire to the WAN port (world icon) on the TC.
The guided setup will normally sense that the TC is connected to another router and suggest that the TC be configured in Bridge Mode, which is the correct setting. Otherwise, select the Bridge Mode option when it is presented.
Note....If you have a newer dual band TC, the Guest Network option cannot be enabled when the TC is configured in Bridge Mode. So, if you want a "Guest" network, maybe the 2-Wire could provide that service.
Should I attach this (via ethernet) to the TC or the 2Wire?
Pick a LAN <-> port on either one, your choice, whichever is easier
What should the AT&T DVR be connected to?
I'm not familiar with an AT&T DVR, but if it connects via Ethernet, you can connect to a LAN <-> port on either the 2-Wire or the TC
For printing, my plan is to attach the printer through USB to the Airport Express and then connect that wirelessly to the TC network (though my first attempt at this failed to connect).
Suggest that you get the TC up and working smoothly. Then tackle the Express.

  • How to hook up TWO Airport Expresses and base to reduce AirTunes dropouts?

Any suggestions on the best way to set up Airport Extreme base station with two Airport Expresses to allow iTunes to drive two separate stereos?
I've had a lot of problems with random Airtunes dropouts with this system, even now that I have removed all security from the network (removal of which definitely helps AirTunes). And I can consistently play music through ONE of the stereos without dropouts. But whenever I try to use the Multiple Speakers option in iTunes, the dropouts start again.
I've changed my channel to one that none of my neighbors is using. I've tried moving all of the Airports away from other electronics. Right now the two Expresses are clients of the network created on the Extreme base, which is where the cable modem is connected. Is there some better way to do it? Like use the Expresses as relays instead of clients, or something?

While I don't have any suggestions to make beyond what you have already tried, I can tell you that configuring the Airport Express units as relay or remote base stations will likely make the problem worse because of the bandwidth penalty you get from such a setup.
In case you haven't yet seen it, this is what Apple has to say on the topic:
