Configuring my iphone with someone elses SIM

Hey, I just bought an Iphone 4S 16GB, but my provider takes 3 days to send the micro sim cards out to me, meaning I can't configure the iphone without the sim. Would my iphone still work fine, if I put in my friends sim card to configure the device, then remove the sim card and just use wifi to use it like an ipod touch.
Would doing this effect my device in any way?

With no sim in the phone, you won't be able to activate those services with your phone number, just your Apple ID.
Three days is not the end of the world. Honestly, you'd be better served to just wait & activate everything using your own sim. That way you avoid having to go back & fix stuff.

This is caused by using the same iCloud account on both phones. When you do this any data you sync with the shared iCloud account such as contacts is merged and will appear on all devices connected to the account. To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).
Decide which iPhone will be keeping the current iCloud account. On the one that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account (e.g., deleting your son's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

Contacts are NOT part of the iTunes backup. If you had read the User Guide when you got your phone, you would have learned that Apple recommends you synch your contacts for safekeeping to your computer (Outlook, Address Book) or a cloud service. Using the phone as your only source of your contacts is foolish as the phone can easily be lost, damaged, stolen, or the data become corrupt.
If you've been using your phone as strongly recommended, your contacts are safe and sound on your computer or cloud service ready to be synched back to your phone. Of course, you should be backing up your computer regularly as well.
If you haven't been doing this, your contacts are likely gone.

Someone is selling me his iPhone and I might or might not use it as a phone.
If I don't put my At&t SIM card in can I still use Safari (over Wifi) and the ipod function?
If I do put the SIM card in can I use all the functions of the iphone without a data plan?

If you purchase a used iPhone and take the iPhone with you to an at&t corporate store, more than likely at&t won't charge you for a new SIM card to activate the iPhone with at&t.
When activating an iPhone with at&t, as a new subscriber or as an existing subscriber, selecting the unlimited data plan for the iPhone, which includes 200 SMS, is required at that time. If you are an existing at&t subscriber, this replaces any existing data plan and SMS plan you currently have and are using with an existing phone with at&t.
Some have reported that were able to cancel the unlimited data plan after the activation process, but this will eliminate visual voicemail - which are downloaded to the iPhone via at&t's data network only, and if downloaded anyway without the data plan, you will be charged by the KB for each messages downloaded to the iPhone. The same when accessing the internet other than when connected via wi-fi with the iPhone. If you access the internet via at&t's data or EDGE network without the unlimited data plan, you will be charged by the KB for all data downloaded and uploaded - when checking email, web browsing with Safari, Maps access, youtube, etc., etc.
You say you won't use the unlimited data plan, but you will likely want or need to use it more often than you realize. If you don't want the unlimited data plan, you may want to consider purchasing an iPod Touch instead.

My new Mac Book Pro came with someone elses CD in already in the Drive

Just received my new Mac Book Pro just yesterday.
I purchased it online via the apple store.
When I was playing around with it just before, I tried inserting an installation disk for Office Mac when I realised the CD wouldn't go into the drive.
After a while I realise a CD was already in there - it was someone elses scratched up blank CD with a bunch of Asian songs on it.
How does this happen?? Makes me wonder if i've been given some second hand computer!!
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do or maybe this has happened before to someone??

My question is: Is it possible to use an iphone purchased in Japan (with a japanese sim card) in Europe with a european Sim card. I know it has to be unlocked but that's not a problem. My concern is the Sim card.

She did it and still the phone can't read it... Not sure if there is something missing in the unlock process.
