Configuring my mail properly - I have a somewhat unique set-up

Well, not unique perhaps, but I'm in the minority.
I have transferred my domain's e-mail to the Gmail servers (the web interface is VASTLY superior to my old ISP's web client). So my e-mail is Gmail based, but it uses MY domain. So I have to add it to the iPhone using the "other" method in stead of the "gmail" method.
I also want to check my e-mail on my home Mac using mac Mail.app. I want all messages to download to that computer while still being able to be checked using Gmail and my iPhone. Since the iPhone is incapable of archiving e-mail (seems stupid to me), and since Gmail isn't a reliable archiving tool, I want to use my Mac as a good archive for my e-mail. It will keep the mail forever.
So how do I set up my accounts on the iPhone, Gmail, and Mail.app to accomplish these ends? I'm set up one way right now, but it doesn;t work quite right and I'll gladly re-configure my settings to get the desired result.
- POP or IMAP on the iPhone?
- Will the iPhone delete messages from the server or render them unreadable in mail.app?
- Can Gmail interfere with the operation of the iPhone and Mail.app to get what I need?

When accessing an email account with more than one email client, IMAP is the preferred choice IMO, which is designed for this with each email client used to access the account keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized with the server automatically.
With an IMAP account, you can copy messages from a server stored mailbox to a locally stored mailbox with the Mail.app on your Mac for archive purposes and leave the messages on the server that were copied to a mailbox that is stored locally on your computer's hard drive. Google includes a good amount of storage on the server. If you remove a server stored message from a server stored mailbox, it will no longer be available when accessing the server stored mailbox with the iPhone's mail client.

Not all of the users in our environment have this issue. If the users having this issue, install a secondary email account, Gmail, Hotmail, etc, then they can send through those accounts. Why would the exchange account not be seen to send photos?

Sounds like it worked until the policies associated with the account that are creating the problem were fully pushed down.
Try setting up a new (test) Exhange account and see if it behaves the same way on the phone (after removing the problem account from the phone, of course).

Hold down the Home button and Power button on your iPhone or iPad and keep holding them until you see the Apple logo. Once you do, you can let go. When your device boots back up, go ahead and check to see if the apps have started re-downloading. If they still appear to be stuck, continue on.

How to configure E-Mail servers in SAP?

Dear All,
| have configured e-mail server in R/3 properly (using SCOT tcode). However, when I am trying to send mails for testing purpose (using SBWP tcode), its showing status as "send process still running". But after some time, its showing status as "error during send process"
can any one please help me troubleshoot this problem? Should you need any information, kindly let me know.

I have gone through the notes and links you have sent me. Its very helpful and informative as well. Following are my observations and understandings:
1. As I mentioned, we are on 4.6C , therefore tcode SICF is not executable to activate SAPConnect service. Its only available on WAS.
2. I think I have to make use of SAP EXCHANGE CONNECTOR if its R/3 4.6C. Then only I will be able to configure SMTP mail server. Because,
note#122657 says that:
if you are using SAP system based on WAS 6.10 or above then you should use the SAPconnect (E)SMTP
linkage for the exchange connection. You no longer need to install the SAP Exchange Connector
3. Can you please confirm that I have to use SAP Exchange Connector to configure SMTP mail server?
4. There is not SMTP node in tcode SCOT ! Only I get FAX and INT nodes. How to get the SMTP node?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

How do I specify the gmail outgoing server if I have multiple gmail accounts in my mail? I have 2 business accounts and when I send mail from one account, it is sent from the other account and the sending email is not from the correct account.

I love my apple email and do not want to use google mail on safari. However, I have 2 gmail accounts set up on apple mail, but when I send mail from one of my gmail accounts (I choose the specific gmail account in the drop down window), it actually goes out as if it is from the other gmail account. I can't have that happen because one is my job, the other is a personal business account and unfortunately, the mail from both gmail accounts want to send through the personal business account. How do I make it send from a specific gmail account? I even tried deleting the accounts and setting them up again hoping I set it up wrong in the first place, but to no avail, it is still doing the same thing except this time I set the job account up first and then the personal business account and now everything goes from the job account! The only good thing is that the incoming messages work properly and they go into the correct inbox. Somebody please fix my outbox!

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account. The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

Getting error when configured sender mail adapter

When i tried configuring sender mail adapter am getting these logs in Runtime workbench.
In ID,when i gave ip address in place of URL, am getting this log
"exception caught during processing mail message; java.io.IOException: unexpected password response; read -ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."
When i gave URL in place of URL, am getting this log
"exception caught during processing mail message; java.net.UnknownHostException:"
why is it giving this log, What correction i have to do to make it work.

1.How to stop deleting mails.
When the IMAP4 protocol is used, we get an option "Delete messages when read".You could specify if you need to delete it or not.
2.How to do mapping for an attachment,what additional things i have to do for this.
Could you please elaborate?
3.Is there any option to change the flag of mail once it is read by XI.
You cannot do this from XI. You would need to do it in your email client. In case you are using IMAP4,you could mark the message as read, once XI reads the unread message.

in my mapping i've added :

Only one standard mail header field can be influenced: this is indeed "Content-Disposition".
You have done halve way, the only thing you have missed is to set the additional parameter 'OMail.AddContentDisposition' to false within 'Advanced Mode'.

I have few doubts .
Message protocol == XIALL.
If I am providing my mail address in MAIL ATTRIBUTES-TO parameter
then what do we have to exactly specify in connection parameters.
I want to send a mail from XI to my ID. Suppose my id is [email protected] .
So if I am providing this ID in " TO " parameter then what should I specify in connection parameters
i.e url = ?
 user = ?
 password = ? (which password to specify , usually we dont require to give password to recieve mails )

You need to provide your mail server details. When you send a mail normally, say from outlook, you configure it to connect to some SMTP/IMAP server, using username/password.
Provide that server details in URL.
If you dont use user/password to connect to it, leave it blank.
Also fill the 'From' mail address.
For eg., if there is a internet connectivity to your XI server, and you want to use SMTP server of yahoo to send out mails, then you can give:
URL: smtp://smtp.mail.yahoo.com
userid: yomeshsharma
password: <your yahoo password>
In this case, both your From & TO details are same.
You can change 'TO' to send to a different mail address.
