Configuring sendmail for outgoing mail only.

I wonder how I can configure the sendmail.mc to only allow outgoing mail upon detecting an error from the system?
This is require as a sort of notification to the system administrator upon detecting of fault within the system via an e-mail.
Thanks

With the changes that have occurred within Sendmail itself it might be easier just to have all of the mail stay locally on the box and to disable the ability to receive e-mail from anywhere else.

  • How to configure sendmail for outgoing only?

I have another custom application running on port 25, listening to the email traffic there. However, I still need to send mail from the localhost to the internet. I need a way to configure sendmail such that it will send mail but either not listen at all, or listen on a different port. I have tried fiddling with the sendmail.cf file, but without success.
Please forward replys to [email protected]

I'm not sure you can do it by fiddling with the cf file as I'm not sure the cf has the features you need turned on.
You better off tweaking an mc file and generating a whole new cf.
The bit you need in the mc file is
    DAEMON_OPTIONS(``Port=smtp, Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA'')dnl
    FEATURE(`no_default_msa')dnl
An alternative that I prefer is to create the file /etc/default/sendmail containing
    MODE="-bd -ODaemonPortOptions=Addr=127.0.0.1"

  • Using mail for outgoing mail only?

I am trying to set up mail with a work email that does not bring in mail, but I can send out using our email. We have a system in place at the moment where all emails come in through the front reception and then gets distributed internally depending on where it needs to go. I dont want to bypass this, but I do want to be able to send email and not have to use the webmail from our provider to do this.
I have tried leaving the "incoming server" blank, but it does not let me proceed without information there. Even tried making a fake one to see if that works, but it doesnt.
Any tips on how to do this? Is this even possible?
    Thanks

What SMTP do you wish to send with? If using the SMTP of your ISP, typically you can simply add the work email address as a second email address in a POP account provided by your ISP -- see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/9973.html
However, some SMTP such as that provided by Gmail will change the Reply To header to the Gmail address, and others such as that for MobileMe will not accept non-MobileMe from addresses. But the one from most ISPs will.
You can also set up an account manually, skipping the Account Setup Assistant, take the account Offline (and not include when checking for new mail), and it will still send, assuming you have a SMTP to use with it. To skip the account setup assistant, hold down the Option key when clicking the "+" to add an account. By this path Mail will not actually force the check connection to the Incoming Server

  • Sound for outgoing mail sometimes happening and sometimes not

    Hello,
I noticed already some time ago that Apple Mail seems to make the usual sound for outgoing mail only sometimes and sometimes not. It is more not happening than happening. I cannot recognize any pattern in this behavior.
Any idea what is going on here and how to fix it - or is this a normal behavior for Mail?
    Thanks.

Thanks--I found it interesting! Especially when Spell Check quit working for me, too.
    Very weird.
I went back and selected 'Correct Spelling Automatically' in Text Edit-- that works, but I don't like it either. Whoops, only intermittently. I just looked again and that's not working now. Wow, no restart of computer and I hadn't closed Text Edit-yet it stopped working.
Spell checking seems to be behaving badly. It will not underline in mail--until I change a misspelled word....and then only sometimes. At the best it's intermittent.
I hope someone found it interesting enough to fix w/the next system update...

  • My (postage stamp icon) mail program will not send outgoing mail - only receives, what's up with that?

My (postage stamp icon) mail program will not send outgoing mail - only receives mail.
Says the outgoing mail server is wrong, but Comcast says it's right - what's up with that?
Is there a way to reload the standard (postage stamp icon) mail program?

Clearly there's something wrong with the configuration. Reverting to some other mail application (whatever the 'standard' one is...) won't help.
What does the Connection Doctor (Mail -> Window -> Connection Doctor) have to say about it?
Chances are your username/password for your SMTP server are incorrect.

  • Outgoing Mail only goes out while in network?

I can receive e-mail wherever I am located. But for some reason outgoing mail only work while at home. When my macbook is in my office (I have a network at home and at work) I can't send out e-mail. Anybody know why?

Mail Help has some articles devoted to sending problems, e.g. “I can't send email” or “I can't send email because the connection to the server on port 25 timed out”. You may want to take a look at them in case there is something there that applies to you.
Something that usually works if you’re trying to use an outgoing (SMTP) server different from the one provided by your ISP (and in the case of .Mac in particular) is changing the outgoing server port to 587 instead of 25 in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings.
BTW, please update the Computer Model and/or the Operating System fields on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save), so that it accurately reflects the version of Mac OS X you're using now. What shows up there now doesn’t make sense.

How can I increase the file size limit for outgoing mail. I need to send a file that is 50MB?

You can't change it, and I suspect few email providers would allow a file that big.  Consider uploading it to a service like Dropbox, then email the link allowing the recipient to download it.

I assume that you mean that the setting is grayed out and that is what "it won't let me" means. Have you tried selecting another SMTP server of you have another one available in the settings?

  • How to configure users for internal mail routing only

    Hi Guys!
I have a scenario here that i have three (3) group of users, one group is able to have an inbound and outbound mail, meaning they can send and recieved emails from internal and external. The second group of users should have inbound mail(local mail) only (cannot send and recieved mails from internet), and the third (3) user is they can recieved an outbound mail but they are not allowed to send mail directly to the client,(Ex. [email protected],[email protected],[email protected]) instead they will use the [email protected] as the reply to the client. Please let me know how to configure group user 2 and 3.
    Thank you.
    regards,
    LRMCP

    Hi LRMCP,
Procedure is perfect which is given by Benoit, just elaborating steps.
    Prevent form Sending Mails:
Create a transport rule on Hub Transport Server:
Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Transport Rules -> New Transport Rule -> Give Name “Group2 - No Internet Mail”
Conditions: select "From a member of a distribution list" & select group "Group2"
Select another condition "Sent to users inside or outside the organization" & Select Outside.
Actions: select "send bounce message to sender with enhanced status code" & write your custom message like “You are not authorized to send mails to internet”
    Prevent from Receiving Mails:
New User: You can select “require that senders are authenticated” while creating new users which will stop receiving mails from internet.
User -> properties -> Mail Flow Settings -> Message Delivery Restrictions -> Properties -> set Sender Authentication.
    For Existing Users:
You have already a group named "Group2" so set sender authentication for all members with this single command.
    Get-DistributionGroup "Group2" | Set-Mailbox -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $true
Same procedure mentioned for group2 can be followed for Group3 to prevent from sending mails.

    Hi Paul,
Great advice from Maganti, just elaborating steps:
Prevent Group 2 send e-mail to internet by transport rule:
    1. Login EAC with administrator, Mail Flow---> Rule, click “Create a new rule, then give a name “Group2 - No Internet Mail”.
    2. Conditions: select "From a member of a distribution list" & select group "Group2"
    3. Select another condition "Sent to users inside or outside the organization" & Select Outside.
    4. Actions: select "send bounce message to sender with enhanced status code" & write your custom message like “You are not authorized to send mails to internet”.
Prevent Group 3 directly send e-mail to internet, however it can send message as group:
We also can create a transport rule which is same with Group2, then open Active Directory Users and Computers to add send as permission with another group (contain same users as group3).

  • Configuring SMTPPlugin for sending mail to Internet

Hi I have a WEB 640 system, and i need to send SMTP mails to yahoo and other internet smtp adresses via Lotus Domino server which is on the Internet.
    Steps done to send mail:
    1. In RZ10, Instance profile :- icm/server_port_1 with value: PROT=SMTP,PORT=8025,TIMEOUT=180
    2. go to sicf and enable smtp node (sapconnect)
    3. create a user "smtp_user" as service user and attach profile "s_a.scon"
    4. in sicf, double click the sapconnect node and maintain the service tab for logon data details
    5. under scot, maintain the domain name, and schedule a job for processing the mails
On trying to send a mail to an internet mail address the following error occurs:
Internal error: CL_SMTP_RESPONSE ESMTP error code is not known. 505 505Authentic
I understand that something needs to be done on Lotus domino server. Can anyone suggest if either anything else is required in SAP or something that needs to be done on lotus domino.
Any inputs / help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chetan

    Hello Chetan,
you have done the configuration for incoming emails to the SAP Server. You have to configure outgoing mail in transaction SCOT.
To test if the Domino Server accepts SMTP to send emails try "telnet <DominoServerIP> 25" and this commands:
    helo Domino
    mail FROM: <[email protected]>
    rcpt TO: <[email protected]>
    data
    TEst

  • Rule for outgoing mail?

    Hello,
I am currently using Entourage 2008 for mail and I have the ability there to create rules for BOTH incoming and outgoing mail items.
I have a friend that is only using MAIL in Leopard and he wishes to copy items from his sent items folder up to his mail server sent items folder. His mail account is set up as a POP3 account.
I am wondering if MAIL supports setting up outbound email rules.
I believe that my other solution is to set up a new IMAP account so that sent items are in sync with his mail server and he can refer back to them from his iPhone's IMAP account.
Can someone experienced creating mail rules enlighten me on this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind Regards

I have been using MailActOn for the past week and I have to say that it has solved ALL my problems and has made me way more efficient!
I have finally removed my last Mickey$oft vestige from my MAC. ( Entourage )
I was having some serious issues with the entourage database size and corruption.
I am an IT consultant and I get a ton of email every day.
My Entourage database size was in excess of 1.8 GB.
For some reason Entourage kept claiming I had a corrupt database daily and I needed to restore from backups constantly.
Now that I have switched to Mail.app it is not only faster, but I have been able to create more customized rules.
I HIGHLY recommend this add on!
    Kind Regards
