Replacing Host Name and Port number throughout Environments
So I am currently working on a project that have several classes using simple JDBC code. I'm switching all of it to use JNDI instead of what is currently being used. I'm using Weblogic and the plan is to have the code run in a cluster.
Here is a code Snippet of some of the code.
Context ctx = null;
Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
ht.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,
"t3://hostname:port");
My problem lies in the the "t3://hostname:port" String. I don't want to hardcode that since I know its bad code practice but my question is what is the best way to replace that with the Host Name and Port number as I move environments. Should I have a Class with a Static Variable and just reference that through the other classes or should I put it in some Property file and read the value from there? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.would it be something like this?
Properties properties = new Properties();
try {
properties.load(new FileInputStream("src/jndi.properties"));
String url = properties.getProperty("url");
System.out.println(url );
} catch (IOException e) {

How to get Server Name and port. Urgent.....
Hi,
Please let me know how can i get the server name and port without using request object.
I am getting it :- request.getServerName();
But, pl. let me know how can I get it without using this request object.
Waiting for reply..I don't know of any way to trivially access that, but why do you need to do this? If you need access to that information in a method that can't see your HttpServletRequest, then perhaps your architecture has a flaw, and you'll be better off in the long run restructuring it.

How to get the Host name and port number
Hi all,
I am working in xRPM. I need to get the server name, host name & port number for the portal and i need to diaplay as a link in the Workflow step. I cant give the portal link as static, as it will vary depends on the DEV, QUAL, PROD. Is there any FM or class is available, so i can get the server name, port no. for my purpose?.
Regards,
VinothHi Kanagaraja,
My client has configured the portal and backend in different stack. So when i execute the FM you provided and with class: CL_HTTP_SERVER, CL_WD_UTILITIES, i am getting only the backend host name and port no. not the portal's info. So please help is there any way we can get the portal's info.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
is there like session/repository variable that holds the server/host name and port? i would like to get these values programmatically.
thanks.In my humble opinion do not see any use in setting up these details on variables. The fact that these could be used only after logging on, which will obviously need these details manually. If you require it for tracking purpose, You could do it manually, as they are going to be static at least for that session.

Get report server name and port name
J want to know if it is possibile to obtain from a form the name of the report server and the port on work.
Infact if i use two different application server the nae of the report server change and in the script that call the report server is necesseraly using the name of the report server.
Thank'sif your cases are that the dev, test, production servers have different servers and databases, then you may create a table e.g., report_server_profiles(serv_name varchar2(100),ports number), it contains one record ONLY in each server's database, then in your form code only have same code that works for three of them.
If you have two report servers, but have one database, then you may add a flag column in above table and depends on users group to set that report flag. -
Suggestion for new version: SID name and port number
Hi, I suggest that XE 11g installer optionally request a name from SID (XE by default) and a port number (1521 by default), it would be easier to have two different editions of Oracle Database on the same machine.

Quote from manual:
Only one installation of Oracle Database XE can be performed on a single computer. This does not affect any existing installation or new installations of Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition, Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One, or Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition.

How to get server hostname and port from web form
Hi All,
I need to find out server hostname and port number
from 9i form.
That is if the form was called via:
http://myserver.com:1234/f90servlet?form=test,
i would like to call some
GET_XXX_PROPERTY(SERVER_HOSTNAME) that would return
myserver.com
and
GET_XXX_PROPERTY(SERVER_PORT) that would return
1234
or alternatively
GET_XXX_PROPERTY(SERVER_URL) that would return
complete URL, so that i can parse it myself.
Does anything like this exist? If not,would be
possible to get that information from any Java
function via java importer?
BR,
Robert
BR,
RobertRobert,
I'd add the code as a Java Bean in Forms and get this information from the Forms request URL.
Add the following bean to a Canvas and make it a size of 1x1 pixel so taht it appears hidden
import java.applet.Applet;
import java.net.URL;
import oracle.forms.handler.IHandler;
import oracle.forms.properties.ID;
import oracle.forms.ui.VBean;
public class FrmRequestInfo extends VBean
public static final ID pGetPort = ID.registerProperty("GET_PORT");
public static final ID pGetHost = ID.registerProperty("GET_HOST");
public static final ID pGetProtocol = ID.registerProperty("GET_PROTOCOL");
private String _host;
private String _port;
private String _protocol;
private URL FormsURL;
Applet m_applet;
/*Forms settings*/
IHandler m_handler;
public FrmRequestInfo()
public final void init (IHandler handler)
super.init(handler);
m_handler = handler;
// get the forms applet handler
m_applet = m_handler.getApplet();
// initialize cookie domain to the same domain that runs Forms
// Services
FormsURL = m_applet.getDocumentBase();
_host = FormsURL.getHost();
_port = new Integer(FormsURL.getPort()).toString();
_protocol = FormsURL.getProtocol();
public Object getProperty(ID p0)
if (p0 == pGetHost)
return _host;
else if (p0 == pGetPort)
return _port;
else if (p0 == pGetProtocol)
return _protocol;
else
return super.getProperty(p0);
To get the port number you call
VarcharVariable_Port := get_custom_property('beanblock.beanname',1,'GET_PORT');
for the hostname
VarcharVariable_Host:= get_custom_property('beanblock.beanname',1,'GET_HOST');
Frank
Ps.: just wrote the bean on the fly, without testing - but I am positive that it works as similar functionality works for me in other beans. -

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
password is "my login password"
and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
Help please !I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.
