Configuring the way iTunes transfers music to the PC
iTunes is creating too many folders in my PC. How can I setup iTunes to save the songs by GENRE ONLY regardless of the album, the artist or the song title?

You cannot change the file structure that iTunes creates.
You can import with something else that does what you want then update the folder by having iTunes import it again. Be sure to uncheck "organize" in preferences or you will truly not be enjoying things

I have backed up itunes by copying my itunes file to an external hard drive. I try to keep my large media files (like TV shows) in a separate folder so that I can keep my hard drive on my macbook from filling up. Problem is, apple has changed the way Itunes is organized and backs up over the years. Now I am having a hard time keeping straight what is where. When I go to support, it has different instructions for the various versions of itunes. I am using version 10 now but it seems like I can't see all my files within the itunes music or media folder. I want to get everything in one place so that I can easily back up, regardless of which version of itunes I am running at the time.
I have selected to let itunes organize my files. It keeps all the files I have purchased in one place apparently, but items I have imported don't seem to always be there.
How can I best sort this out?I have, but if I don't have that particular external hard drive connected when my time machine backup hard drive is connected, then I don't think it is all backed up together. It is getting too complicated to get out all this equipment every time I want to buy some music.

My laptop died so I've installed itunes onto another PC and my music is all on an external hardive which is connected to the new PC. How can I sync my ipod with the new itunes and get all the music onto itunes?
You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
I have set up a second iTunes user account on my PC, but when I create the new iTunes account it copies the music, videos etc from the original account and they seem to be linked, so that when I delete a song from one library it deletes from the other one.
On the online tutorials I've seen it shows that when you create a new iTunes library it should open as a blank account, but that isn't happening.
What am I doing wrong?If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

Download them to the computer to which the iPod is synced, re-sync.

Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases. -
Having worked on a photograph in Pages 08 document I cannot find a way of transferring it to the desktop, iPhoto or Photoshop. Does anyone know how to do this please.

I own toshiba laptops. Both computers have the latest itunes software. However the 'show menu' does not appear on the screen?
Thanks for the response diesel. I dont think I clarified my question very well. I'm trying to do home sharing between mine and my wifes computers. The intructions say:
Log in as the same user on each computer.
Ensure both are current version.
Choose the correct list in sharing ie Music
Then in the 'show menu' at the bottom of the screen, choose items not in my library.
I do not have the show menu to select any songs.
Any help appreciated.

While installing the latest iTunes version I get the following msg:"Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start.Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. I already tried it from the installer Running it as Administrator and still get the same message. I click "ignore" and finish the installation but when I try to open it I get this "Runtime Error! R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly." I already uninstalled iTunes and all other applications involved and re-installed itunes from the itunes site and the problem persists. Please help!

I attempted to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1. I selected 'back up' from the phone in the device menu and iTunes confirmed that the phone had been backed up. I then installed iOS 5.1.1 which wiped everything on the phone & now I am getting the error "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored".
I have tried restoring factory settings but iTunes simply will not restore from back up & I'm not sure what else to do!
Any advice would be much appreciated.I have the same issue and I KNOW my backup IS good. What happen is when you try to restore your phone apple says something like can I check for new updates and if you choose no, it just takes you back to the restore screen and a loop from then on. If you dont update from you phone then when you back up you will have the 5.0.1 back up and then when you update to 5.1.1 and then try to restore the backup from 5.0.1 it say it EITHER corrupt or incompatible.. It is incompatible and its hard as **** to restore back to 5.0.1. I followed the restore to a T and still getting errors. I lost all text history and have to reset up email. All just because I wanted a 1.2 Gigs of "other" space back.

Whenever i try to sync my ipod a message keeps coming up saying "1 or more items could not be synced", apparently its error -69. Please help, i've tried rebooting my laptop, installing the latest itunes and turning off the wifi but nothing seems to work.
