  • Configure trunk ( dot1q)between Linxux server and a cisco 6500

Want to know the proper way to configure a trunk on a cisco cat os switch... I'm ruunning a Linux server with the monitoring utility Nagios and I need it to access all my VLANS.
    Ex:
    Running
On my Linux Server 2 network Interfaces on 10.30.32.11 and 10.30.33.11
    My switch has vlans 31,32,33,34,44,54,64
Say the the linux server plugs into 6/20 6/21
Do I first assign each port to a vlan ?
    And then do
    Set trunk 6/20 on dot1q 31-64
    Set trunk 6/21 on dot1q 31-64

Does the NIC on the server support trunking? You do not need to assign the ports to every VLAN but just one which will be your Native VLAN(Vlan 1 by default).

    Hi Charles,
    To answer your question,
LPTS would be acting only on packet/traffic which is ingressing the router and destined for the router itself (for-us packets).  It provides an internal forwarding table to route control/management protocol packets destined to local router to the right application for further processing.  Once we have a packet entering the interface, the network processor would be performing a lookup to determine, if this packet is destined for us.  Based on which, it will forward to LPTS.  For eg, the ICMP packets coming in on an interface with destination IP of router itself, would be processed by LPTS.  It also provides policing function for this traffic transparently.
    Key facts about LPTS
    1. LPTS is an always on feature.  No user configuration needed to enable it.
    2. LPTS is only applicable for traffic entring to the router and destined to the local router. Applies for control-plane and management plane traffic.
    3. Packets originated by router and transit traffic is not processed by LPTS
    4. LPTS polices the incoming traffic based on the pre-defined policer rates.
Here is an o/p snip to view the LPTS entries.

  • How to configure trunk promiscuous?

    Hi Guys.
how to configure trunk promiscuous?; i have and access switch connected to a core switch and them to a third party Firewall by an trunk interfaces. I need to have a promiscuous to CORE?; The trunk port to the firewall needs to be a trunk promiscuous?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The only way I see is to dedicate a standalone port both on the 6500 switch and on the firewall for the Private VLAN, and configure the corresponding port on the switch as a promisc port (not a promisc trunk - just a promisc port without any tagging). Neither 3750-X nor 6500 support promisc trunk ports so this is not an option for you.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • Configure Cisco Mediatrace, Cisco IOS IP SLA, and Performance Monitoring

    Hi all,
I am implementing Cisco Prime Collaboration to monitor the quality of the VoIP call.
I am following all the steps that I have to do to accomplish this task at this link:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Setting_up_Devices_for_Prime_Collaboration_Assurance#Configuring_Unified_Contact_Center_Enterprise_Devices
And now I am arrived on this step:
Configure Cisco Mediatrace, Cisco IOS IP SLA, and Performance Monitoring
Not all the Cisco devices that I have on the network are "Mediatrace, IP SLA and Performance Monitoring" capabilities. The core switch is one of them.
What will happen if some devices are configured with these capabilities and some are not?
Are the data provided from Cisco Collaboration still reliable?
    Thanks in advance.
    Luigi

I can't see a reason why the 2 features won't work together. The 2 features will work just fine with each other.
Unfortunately there is no sample config with both feature in the same document, but it will work just fine.

  • IOS 7.04 and configurator 1.4.2 backup and restore issues

I have 20 brand new iPad air's and I am trying to establish a base image in configurator, then use that to restore from as a mass deployment option. I created the backup from the first iPad air succesfully, I installed a few apps via configurator and tweaked icon placement via itunes, I also changed a few settings from the device, wallpaper, bluetooth, and I turned on reduce motion. I am able to backup the first device succesfully in configurator, when I attempt to restore then next device it errors out with a message "Could not restore backup code 4 domain com.apple.configurator.operation.error". I have tried manually proceeding past the greeting screen, rebooting the mac running configurator, restoring the device via itunes, and recreating the backup image. It continues to fail with the same error. The frustarting thing is that i cannot find a table to tell me what these error codes mean, so im left in the dark as to what is causing the issue. does anyone have any ideas?

I have gotten this resolved, but as to how i got this accomplished I am unsure. I ended up deleting the backup image I had created, and starting over from the beginning. I then created a backup at each step of the process, then tested it to see if it failed to apply. At no step in the process did the process fail, so I dont have a clue what change was the culprit. The last issue I'm having, which appears to be fairly widespread, is that when the image is applied theres a 3-5 minute hang where it stays in the "waiting for device to be ready" state. Im not overly concerned about this but it is a pain to have to wait so long for each device to finish. Anyone have a clue about this?

  • Unable to place call on calls on hold - SIP Trunk from CUCM to CUBE and from CUBE to ISTP

    Hi Cisco Community,
I have a SIP Trunk setup between the CUCM and CUBE and another SIP Dial Peers from the CUBE to the ITSP. All incoming/outgoing calls, DTMF-Relay works well except one thing which is the ability to hold the call.
On the SIP Trunk from the CUCM to the CUBE, I did not select “MTP” because when I do so, I am forced to select my preferred MTP codec which when selected G.729/G.729a, all my outgoing calls goes out using G.729r8. This codec works well for most of the calls until the ITSP replies back with G.729br8. When this condition occur, my call simply fails (this is very intermittent and only some random numbers).
That said, I have some issues with DTMF Relay when I select MTP on the SIP Trunk. DTMF Relay only works if the call is G.729r8 all the way from the CUCM to the ITSP. If the ITSP replies back with G.729br8, the call might established but will simply be “voice-only”.
The current setup is no MTP is selected and everything is working perfectly. I am happy with that until I place a call on hold, which when I do so, the call immediately terminate. Could you please help me understand why?
I have all media resources configured such as G.729r8 MTP, G.729br8 MTP, G.711u MTP, Transcoding with all codecs, etc. All MRG and MRGL are configured on all devices and SIP Trunks.
Below is an example of a call that is connected with the current setup:

    PM-HO-VG-01#

    Hi Manish,
    Again, excellent feedback. Much appreciated.
I will try the commands suggested above and see if I can get DTMF to work correctly while interworking H.323 and SIP.
But my ultimate goal is to have SIP all way from the CUCM to the CUBE and from the CUBE to the ITSP.
If I enable SIP Early Offer with MTP on the CUCM going to the CUBE, all SIP Invite sent from the CUCM to the CUBE uses G.729r8 as the codec and once the call is established using G.729r8 should the ITSP reply with that codec, the call succeed and I am able to see an active MTP session using G.729 when I issue the command # show sccp connections.
One thing that I saw is that my ITSP love so much sending G.729br8 most of the times, so even if using SIP EO with MTP on the SIP Trunk to the CUBE, when I sent my INVITE out from the CUCM to the CUBE using G.729r8, specially on call center numbers such as 0800 numbers, you will see that the call established but the codec being negotiated is G.729br8 which is voice only (missing DTMF).
I will be doing some intensive test again later on this week and will send the logs.
Here is my question to both of you:
Which is the best way of having a proper SIP to SIP setup all the way that will not pose any problem?
Do I have to enable Early Offer on the SIP Profile used by the CUBE SIP Trunk or should I use the normal Standard SIP Profile? Do I need to enable MTP on my CUBE SIP Trunk or not?
From the CUBE point of view, I have a voice class codec that support G.729r8 or G.729br8 and the DTMF Relay method supported by the ITSP is RFC 2833.
I will send more logs for each scenario. I think that we are getting close to the resolution of this problem.
Thanks again for your support fellows.

  • Push email (MS exchange) works intermittently after upgrade to ios 5.1 and ios 5.1.1

I have an iphone 4 with my office email (MS exchange) account configured. Other accounts are Gmail & iCloud.
Office email is configured as Push, Gmail as Fetch and iCloud as Push.
Till ios 5.0.x everything was fine. Office emails were getting pushed and there were no issues.
However after upgrading/restore to ios 5.1 & then 5.1.1 push email mostly does not work.
    Few observations :
    1. Push email works fine when I am at home on wi-fi.
    2. When I leave home for work (therefore on 3G), mails stop getting pushed. Sometimes they get pushed for a period of 1 to 2 hours. Then they stop
    3. Manually fetching office mails also does not work
    4. Strangle accessing the office webmail site in Safari https://mail.xxxxx.com does NOT work. While i can load other sites in safari, the mail site does not load.
    5. In office sometimes in the lift phone switches from 3G to Edge or no signal and then when out of the lift, suddenly mails get pushed, but then stop after some time.
    6. Moment I get onto wi-fi, push emails start working
    7. There is no issue with accessing gmail.
    8. Other push notifications work (gmail app, facebook notifications etc)
    9. There have been no changes to our MS exchange server
    10. I have tried the usual stuff of resetting network settings, rebooting the phone, killing the mail app, going to airplane mode, deleting the mail a/c and recreating etc etc. But no luck.
Apart from upgrading/restoring to 5.1 and then 5.1.1, there have been no changes. The upgrades were done OTA, restore from 5.1.1.
However both times I have not set the phone as new and have restored backups.
Is anybody facing a similar issue ?
    Any suggestions ?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

I updated my iphone 3G to ios 6.0 and can seem to set up an tether/hotspot or add configuration.

Within iTunes I use the add file/folder to music library option then sync it. That's how I did before and it worked until yesterday. Am I doing it wrong? Thanks again

  • HT4972 I upgraded my iPad to IOS 5.1 and now Safari doesn't work.

I upgraded my iPad to IOS 5.1 and now Safari doesn't work and keeps bombing out. I've tried restoring the iPad to the original configuration but this is clearly not restoring the iPad back to the original factory default!! Help !!  I have the original v1 iPad.  I wish I had never upgraded the IOS now !

    1. Double-click the Home button to show the Task Bar
    2. Hold the Safari icon down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close Safari

  • Configure trunk on a NIC

    Hi,
I kind of stuck with this problem.
And I just wante dto know if there is a way to do what i want.
Is there a way to configure trunk on one NIC , the other side will be a cisco switch configure with trunk too??
I want to create on the machine several "vlan interfaces" each for each vlan inside my lab.
Each interface will have a valid IP address.
Can i reach thos address if I will cinfigure trunk on the machine and trunk on the switch???
I hope I wrote my question clearly.
    Thanks!

    No no no no....
What you have mentioned is aggregation. expanding the link bandwidth using more then one port.
Trunking means , link that can contain 1 or more vlans. In cisco-speak, that's correct. However Sun sold a link-aggregation product as "SunTrunking" for many years (still does), so a great many Solaris admins will use "trunking" as a term for the aggregation concepts.
For example. If i have 2 switches connected to each other via trunk port , they can exchange trafic of several vlans on the same port.
I want to so it when i have switch at one side and a solaris machine on the other..Depends on your hardware and OS. Most interfaces are not 802.1q compliant. What interfaces/hardware do you have?
Most of the solaris docs will reference "VLAN" as a term rather than "trunking". As an example:

  • How to configure VRF in IOS XR

    Hello Folks,
I know this, is this correct?
Can we configure rd in ios xr? I am unable to find it.
I found somewhere that IOS XR by default uses vrf.
    vrf vrf_cu1
    interface interface-type1
    interface interface-type2
    addipv4 uni
    route-target import 1:1
    route-target export 1:1

    Thanks Harold,
I have a creepy doubt now.
    Think I have a scenario
                    R4
                     |
                     |
    R1------->R2<-------R3
                     |
                     |
                    R5
Here I want R1 to communicate with R3
and             R4  to communicate with R5
I have put interfaces going to R1 and R3 in vrf_1
and th interfaces going to R4 and R5 in vrf_2 in R2
Now R2 has protocol for R1 and R3 as ospf
and for R4 and R5 also has the same.
R2 is bgp free and where do I have my RD configured? How the router R2 distinguishes between two vrfs
    Does it do automatically?
For the Scenario in which I have bgp and If I donot configure RD, does the router take it automatically or  I  must and should configure RD?
I am unable to catch the point why We need to configure RD in bgp addressfamily for VRF

  • Configure trunk port between 2 SG500 switches

    Hi all,
I'm trying to do what seems to be a simple task but cannot get it to work.  I've very familiar with the Cisco commands on 2900 all the way up to 6500 series switches.  The SG500 has me stumped.  I have 3 switches, sw1, sw2, sw3.  sw1 and sw2 are stacked.  sw3 is standalone and in a different part of the building, maybe 25ft away.  All I want to do is set up a trunk port between the stack and the standalone.  In going by past experience, I would set the port as :
    - switchport mode trunk
    - switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,3,4
The SG makes me specify tagged or untagged - which is fine.  So any vlan I want to move across the trunk i tag, obviously.  I do everything as I've done for years and it doesn't work.  VLAN1 is untagged, all VLANs I want to flow are allowed and tagged.
I'm quickly realizing I should have bucked up and just bought what I'm used to but I didn't have a choice in the matter.
    Any help would be great!
    Shawn

Hi Shawn, something is the matter if the switch is asking you for tagged or untagged. The only reason it should be requesting a tag or untag statement is from a general port mode.
The command syntax for the function is exactly the same as an IOS switch
    switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 2,3,4
Just like a Catalyst, if you use switchport trunk allowed vlan x,x,x it won't take the command as insufficient privilege or whatever the error it gives, suffice it say it doesn't really do anything without the add(or remove).

  • Configure vlan with SG 300-10P and SA 520

    Hi All,
Forgive my ignorance but i need some help for basic configuration.
I bought for a little office  a SA520 Security appliance (for future VPN with another distant office) and a SG 300-10P switch for connect 3 PC and 3 IP PHONE. THe SA 520 is the router. I must configure 2 VLANs on the switch :
    VLAN2 : DATA (for PC)
VLAN3 : VOICE (for IP PHONE)
    VLAN1 : DEFAULT.
How can i simply configure all ports ?
I would like to configure ports 1-4 on VLAN2 and ports 5-8 on VLAN3 and port G10 is reserved for the router SA520.
I want to divise network DATA/VOICE.
    I think i must create a trunk on G10 for SA520 ...
    Does anyone can help me?

    Hi Julien,
Ok sounds like you are using the default vlan for management on the network  and vlan 2 for data  and vlan3 for voice.
I am using a simulator for this, my SA520 is loaned out at the moment.
Step 1   On the SA520  add vlan 2 and vlan 3  and label them data and voice respectively.
Step 2. Lets use switch port 4 on the SA520 as a trunked port to the SG-300.
(my intention is to use untagged vlan1, tagged vlan 2 and tagged vlan 3 on  the uplink from the switch and the SA500.)
To do this I have to tell the SA520 that switch port 4 will be in trunking mode and not access mode.
You will have to tick off the membership of vlan 2 and vlan 3 on switch port 4.
Step 3.  Now add some IP addresses for VLAN2 and VLAN3
Step 4.  Create some DHCP scopes if that is what is needed on the SA520
So by now hopefully we have the SA520 with  IP addresses associated with VLAN1, VLAN2 and VLAN3
We also have switch port 4 as a trunk interface
We are propogating untagged vlan1 and tagged vlan2 and tagged  vlan3 to the SG-300 switch.
We have to do the opposite on the SG-300 switch.
If you are using G10 as the uplink to the SA520 you will note by default  port 10 should already be in trunk mode.
switch port G10 should be tagged for vlan 2 and tagged for vlan3.  By default Gi10  it will be untagged for vlan1.
Make sure you set up the rest of the switch ports appropriately.
    regards Dave
