Configuring windows file system repository in local portal system(KM)

Hi
can any one give the step by step explanation for Configuring windows file system repository in local portal system .
Thanks
Kirankumar M

Hi Kiran,
Go Through all the docs, It will help you.
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/KMC/File%2bSystem%2bRepository%2b-%2bW2KSecurityManager
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/284
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/e3/92322ab24e11d5993800508b6b8b11/frameset.htm
Anyways you have to
1. create a mapping in your windows by Tools -> Map Network Drive (say v:\)
2. Do all the configuration in your  portal as per the 3rd link provided like network path and all.
3.Logon to portal with admin perrmission,
then
System Administration -> System Configuration ->Knowledge Management -> Content Management ->Repository Managers -> File System Repository
Configure a new repository manager for your windows system.

While trying to configure Windows File system repository we are getting the following error
    1. Getting this error when we give
    <ip address>\<shared folder name>
Startup Error:  The localroot does not exist:
    10.1.100.44\Shared_folder

Could any one help in solving this issue.
    Regards,
    Sravanthi

    Hi Chiluveru Sravanthi
According to the documentation, there is a difference between the path syntax for the repository manager and the network path. Did you pay attention to this difference when doing your configurations?
    Network paths (Network Path)
Specifies the path to the Windows remote server.
The path consists of the IP address of the Windows remote server, and a path specification.
    For example,
    192.168.0.1share
Alternatively, you can enter the UNC name and path of the server, for example,
    servershare.
SAP recommends that you specify the IP address, since you can then check the availability of the server more easily, using the ping command.
Note: It is not sufficient to enter the server name alone. Specifications in the form of c$ cannot be resolved either.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/63/7f283ac3d7c54b94964931fa1b4ed9/frameset.htm
File System Repository Manager (Root Directory)
This denotes the path to the root directory in the file system to which the repository manager is assigned.
If you want to integrate documents from a Windows system, this can be a drive letter (followed by a colon) or directory path on the local server or a remote server share (for example, //myserver/myshare/somedir).
If you are running your portal on UNIX and want to access the file system on another UNIX host, you must mount the required directory on the portal server.
Example path when using a UNIX system:
    /usr/company/share
The repository manager is responsible for the specified directory and all its subdirectories.
Note that multiple repository manager configurations are not allowed to have the same subpath in their Localroot parameter.

  • Windows & File System Repository - security issues

    Hello,
I got a strange behavior in EP 6 SP 2 using KM and Windows file systems. Here is the scenario:
    - I created a Network Path and a File System Repository pointing to a Windows 2003 File System, following the portal help instructions. Both EP6 server and Windows 2003 server are in the same domain.
    - according the KM Monitor, the repository is up and running
    - the portal users can access their respectives folders in the file system after having their uids / passwords mapped in the user mapping option
    - the portal is assuming the permissions (read & write & list folder & etc) from windows
So far it seemed to be everything ok - but after some tests we got the problem:
    - user "A" has his uid/pwd mapped in portal, and read & write access to the file system "dept_folder". He can access the folder through a KM iview, with r/w privileges.
    - user "B" has his uid/pwd mapped in portal, and ONLY read access to the file system "dept_folder". He can access the folder through an KM iview, with read privileges.
    - and here comes the problem: if user "A" is logged, and user "B" replaces his uid by user "A" uid in the user mapping (only the uid, the password doesn't matter) he can access the file system "dept_folder" with the same privileges than user "A".
I looked in SDN, SAP Notes and SAP Portal Help trying to find an article related to this, no success so far. We have CM Patches 2 & 3 applied, and Patch 4 doesn't have any comment about this specific security problem.
Has someone already face this problem ? Or could be something wrong in my configuration ?
    Rgds, and tks in advance
    Fernando Cervantes

    Hi David
The same occurred here, I think I know the reason. Let me just give you an overview of my configuration:
    Network Path id          ccc-ccc1fs-drive_i
    Description *            DRIVE I - CCC1FS Server
    Network Path *
    ccc1fs\Drive_I
    Password           *********
    Re-Enter Password      *********
    User *            ccc\service
The user was provided by the Windows administrator and has full control for this folder.
    File System Repository
Description                  File System drive_i CCC1FS Server
    Prefix *                 /ccc-ccc1fs-drive_i
    Root Directory *            //ccc1fs/drive_i
    Windows Landscape System       Windows
    ACL Manager                Not set
    Security Manager          W2KSecurityManager
The important here is the Security Manager configuration - it must be W2KSecurityManager, otherwise you will have the user permissions overrided by admin user permission. And you will need to configure a Windows system landscape too.
I hope this can help you...concerning the bosses, I got the same situation, I said the whole stuff would work fine
    Rgds,
    Fernando

  • CM Repository - Windows File System on EP(UNIX Platform)?

    Hi all,
we have an EP6 SP2 on Unix. We want use CM repository manager to connect remote windows file system which contains all the content. In Global Services we wanted to use the fsmount Service-
We get the following Message:" not supported for SUN OS to Win2000 System"
Is it possible to integrate an Windows File System when you have installed the Portal on a UNIX Platform?
    Thanks!

    Hello Antonio,
With EP6 SP2 Patch 5 KM on a Unix portal can access windows file systems including ACLs. Please have a look at the corresponing release notes

  • Is there a way to configure NTFS file system on an NSS 324 SmartStorage unit. So far I can setup ext 3 or ext 4 but no option for NTFS

Is there a way to configure NTFS file system on an NSS 324 SmartStorage unit. So far I can setup ext 3 or ext 4 but no option for NTFS. This unit should be joining a Windows Server 2008 R2 network and needs to be shared with all users. This unit will replace a File server running Win 2003 SP2.

Thank you very much for your reply. The idea is to decommission the Windows file server which is running Windows Server 2003 SP2 operating system but is not running as a DC but just a member server. All this server is doing is providing file server services so my idea is to replace it with the NSS 324 box. My only concern is that when my NSS joins the domain all my users would be able to see and access network shares transparently, the same way they saw the former W2003 file server. After I transferred the data from File server I will use the same for NSS that was used for file server as well as same IP address and folders path as before.
    Any suggestions or advice?
Once again thank you very much for your reply.
    Cheers,

The internal HDDs must be formatted in either EXT3 or EXT4 file system because NSS uses Linux OS.  This is mainly because the RAM designed to fit with the customized Linux OS's size.
You can connect to an external HDD via a  USB or eSATA port. The external HDD's file system can be NTFS, FAT32, AFT or EXT3/4 to be recognized for read/write. You can connect a 2TB USB/eSATA drive connec to the NSS via USB port to format your HDD for NTFS, AFT, FAT32, or EXT3/4 partition.
You can join the NSS to a Windows domainr so all domain users to access NSS. You cannot replace the NSS for the Windows 2003 SP2 server. They are two different products and do different jobs. Windows server is features sets server while the NSS is the files/data server.
    Hope that helps!!

PPP and PPPoE configuration are described in the [Network Administration Guide|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-4555/modemtm-1] .
A WWAN device should appear as a serial device in the */dev/term* directory. The [Wireless Wide Area Network|http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=134] discussion group is probably the best place to get specific questions answered regarding your setup.

  • Using JMX for detecting changes in windows file system?

Can anybody help to find way to watch changes in windows file system.........Or say files are transfer in mounted drive i want to start access to those files as and when they come in drive.....do not wait while transferring all files ..

    Hi,
JMX is a technology that will let a Java process expose information to a remote client application.
It doesn't define what information to expose, but simply how to make it available externally.
JMX per-se cannot be used to detect the kind of things you describe, but if you are able to detect them, JMX will help you making the information available to external applications.
    Hope this helps,

    After you run
    # grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck /dev/sda
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
are there any errors during the mkconfig -o usually its says found this os then this os using os prober.  Are you seeing all the os currently installed on your partitions?

  • Retrieving Windows File System Icons

I am building a tool similiar to windows explorer in Java 1.3.1
Does anyone know how to access the windows file system icons. I noticed that java 1.4 has a method in the FileView class called getSystemIcon(File f) to retrieve the icon. Does anyone know how to do this in 1.3.1 ?
    Thanks,
    clevelam

I wrote a program that displays all of the UIManager properties in a table format. Try running it and clicking on the FileView tab.
    http://www.discoverteenergy.com/files/ShowUIDefaults.java
Once you know which property you want to access, try something like this:
    UIDefaults defaults = UIManager.getDefaults();
    Icon computerIcon = defaults.getIcon( "FileView.computerIcon" );

  • Windows File System Issue

I have a system built using Oracle text that worked fine until we moved some content to a Windows file server. The old system used a Unix system with a samba server sharing out networked files. This system is still available and the content indexes are fine. The new system, which uses shared Windows drives, just won't generate any indexes. The Windows box has wide open security - everyone has full access. The file links in my database work - I can select them and cut and paste them into explorer to open them. The code I use to create the indexes is exactly the same for both the Unix server and the Windows server, but it just doesn't index the Windows content.
    Any thoughts?

Try starting the local database service as the local administrator user, as the default internal windows account has no rights to access a network drive.

  • Firefox corrupts windows file system

Since upgrading to Firefox 32.0, my Acronis Backup stops with the error message
"Backup of file or folder c:\Users\Robert\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Firefox.Profile>\Cache" failed. File or folder does not exists."
The problem no longer occurs after running chkdsk which implies a file system corruption, but it re-occurs when opening and closing Firefox.
Note that I use hibernation (i.e. I open and close the browser, hibernate, wake up and then note the file system corruption)

Yes, I have checked that the folder is not explicitly specified. Also, after running chkdsk, the backup runs successfully, even if the folder does not exist.
I have run some more tests, and am now very confident that this is indeed a bug.
    Reproduction:
    1) Start & Close Firefox
    2) Run Backup --> Error
    3) Create an empty folder named "Cache"
    4) Run Backup --> OK
    5) Start & Close Firefox --> Folder "Cache" is renamed to "Cache.Trash<Number>"
    6) Run Backup -> Error
    repeat as desired
I have found a temporary fix: When I remove the delete permission on my manually created "Cache" folder, Firefox does create a "Cache.Trash<Number>" folder, but cannot delete the Cache folder. The backup will run in this case.

  • Mac Windows file system

I have a 500gb external hard drive that I'd like to use on both my mac and pc and I'm not sure what file system to format it in or what program i should use to format it with? I believe Fat 16 or 32, I'm not sure can be formatted with disk utility but there are file size limitations.

Is there a file system with no space limitations?
Every filesystem has some size limit, and FAT32 is the best of those which can be read and written by Mac OS X and Windows out of the box. Third party software is needed to use any of the others.

  • Windows File System integration

    Hello,
I want to integrate a Windows Filesystem in the Portal. I want to use the windows ACL to get or not get access to the files. Is this possible without usermapping. in the admin guide I only found a description for filesystem repository with usermapping. But this is also not working.
In KM Content Window I get the error objekt could not be found, but the user has the rights for this document.
    Does anybody get this work?
    Best regards
    Olaf

    Olaf,
for Windows shares you only have the following options:
    - use the user's individual Windows ACL rights
    - do not use the user's ACLs but define your owns through the KM's ACL manager.
In the first case, you would have your users to set a user mapping (i.e. they will need to store their windows ID/pwd in the portal).
In the second case, this is not required, as all requests will use one single user. Keep in mind though, that any ACLs on Windows level will not take effect.
btw: "Object not found" implies that the access to the integrated repository failed. Was the mount service able to mount the share? How have you currently set up the repository?
    Regards,
    Dominik

  • Renaming files on both iTunes and the Windows file system

I use the voice memo app on my iPhone to record things and sync them to my laptop with iTunes. In the past when I renamed the files from the date/time default inherited from the phone, the change was copied to the file stored on the laptop -- so I could change the name to "Joe Bloggs speaks" and then find the file in the iTunes folder on my machine with the same name. Since upgrading to 10.5.1, this has changed. Now I alter the name in iTunes and  when I click on "find the file in Windows Explorer" it still has the orginal date/time name on the M4A file. Is there something I can tweak to get back the useful function I had before? Or can somebody in Apple make sure this is function is restored in the next iTunes update.

Under the Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab do you have Keep iTunes Media folder organized? If not then iTunes won't move/rename files as you edit them.
I'm not able to check myself just now, but I suppose it is possible that renaming has been disabled on Voice Memos so the original date & time can be recovered from Explorer and it would stop voice memos moving into your music folders after an edit instead of being in a predicatible location.
