Configuring with D-Link or Netgear Modem

Hi,
I'm facing unsolvable problem with installing a brand new Aiport Extreme router with my already working D-Link modem.
The modem works fine when using it directly, and works fine with an old D-Link router.
I gave up on the D-Link modem and bought another Netgear Modem (I have already setup one of these at my work with a similar Aiport Extreme and it has been working just fine for 1 year now).
But the problem is the even this Netgear modem works fins if I use it directly, but with Aiport Extreme connected, I Can't surf.
Airport Extreme has this status with both modems,
1, Connecting via Ethernet, and gets an IP adress of 169... via DHCP witch is not correct.
2, If I enter the IP Adress manually the light becomes green but not connection.
3, I've tested with DHCP enabled / disabled in both modems but still no luck.
Thankful for any help.

Hello Dev_Guy. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle when changing out networking equipment.
Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: Power-down order is not critical.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-up the computer(s).
Computers connected to the AEBSn, either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet. Please post back your results.

  • Powerbook & iBook can't connect simultaeneously with D-link 300-t modem

    Please help
After much pulling of hair I finaly got my G4 Powerbook to connect to the internet via my airport express through a d-link 300-t modem. This I achieved by changing the default ip address of the modem from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.234 and configuring the airport express manually to be 192.168.1.233.
My problem is that my son now has an iBook which he can connect to the internet through the same modem, but we can't connect at the same time. I keep getting the message " 81.178.76.171 in use by 00:11:24:24:25:7d,DHCP Server 192.168.1.234" ( modem ip). Both machines configure IPv4 using DHCP.
I don't want to configure his iBook manually if I don't have to as he doesn't live here and I don't want to muck up his settings for other places he may wish to use it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    David Moore

Is the Airport Express distributing IP addresses?
    Probably no
You can set up a new location on his iBook which will not conflict or change his current settings.

  • Time Capsule with TP LINK MR3420 3G Modem

I am considering buying a IMAC and Time Capsule (TC), one of the reasons would be single vendor backup via Time Machine.
However my present network has a TP Link MR 3420 Router (TP), that handles a modem connection to a 3G Mobile Braodband Dongle.
    I wish to keep this.
I have seen alot of discussion about connecting the TC in Bridge Mode, and still allow the TP to handle Network DHCP etc. Whilst this may work, a £249 TC relies on a £ 33 router ?
I have read about putting the TP into DMZ mode, swich off DHCP and foreward the traffic to a DMZ host IP Address.
How can this be configured in reallity, the present TP settings are
    Lan IP 192.168.1.1 Mask 255.255.255.000
    DHCP 192.168.1.101 to 192.168.1.999 default gateway 192.168.1.1
What are the principal Lan IP address for each device,?? do they both share a common lan address system, or each has a different Lan IP address system.
I would appreciate all help, advice and experiance
    John Pierce

You basically cannot have two routers in the network.
Nor can you bridge the 3G router and still pass the IP to the TC.. as indeed most 3G do not allow that kind of setup.
You need the TC to have extensions to plug 3G wireless USB modem .. we will wait until doomsday before that happens.
Since you have to be dependent on a £ 30 router to control my home network so be it..
The actually ability of the router is not necessarily a big issue. The router in the TC is actually nothing particularly wonderful and the TP-Link will have a lot more ability.
Unless you run into some major issue I would just stick with the TC in bridge.
You can double NAT.. use DMZ as you suggest.
The problem here is that you are still totally dependent on the TP-Link NAT.. and you have added a second NAT to make it worse.
It is possible to setup the TC in a transparent mode where it is functional as dhcp but not double NAT.. this of course does make the TC appear as if it is the main router.. but it is appearence only.. the TP-Link is still the main router.
    See https://discussions.apple.com/message/22695632?ac_cid=tw123456#22695632
For this method which is designed to avoid the DNS of the TP-Link more than what you are trying to achieve but the effect might do what you want.. Do not use DMZ.. or if you do, use the end computer IP which should be accessible to the TP link as the TC is not actually forwarding.

  • Netgear Modem and WRT54GL Router

    Hi all,
I have a wired network using a Netgear Modem and have recently decided to implement a wireless hotspot for users to connect via their wireless laptops etc.
Because of the DHCP facility in the WRT54GL router (allocating ip addresses automatically etc.), I was recommended to this route.
What I'm sitting with is that the Netgear Modem's default IP address is 192.168.0.1 and all my wired desktops are setup using IP addresses following on from that (e.g. 192.168.0.100 / 192.168.0.101 etc etc.)
The Linksys's default IP address is 192.168.1.1
I've managed to change that to 192.168.0.2 so that it can be seen on the same network, but now:-
1.) How do I access the router's adminstrative settings (previously it was : IE Browser > typing in 192.168.1.1 and inserting my username and password and I was in). When I go to IE Browser > typing in 192.168.0.2 it says it cannot "display the page" and no matter what I do, I cannot get to access it. I can ping the 192.168.0.2 address and replies so it is connected etc. Any suggestions?
Also, I've installed a 2nd PCI card in my server (that controls the internet access to the desktops etc.) and shared the internet connection from LAN1 (onboard motherboard network port). I've connected the Linksys WRT54GL Router via a cable from the LAN2 port to Port1 on the Linksys. Linksys DHCP setting is disabled as well. What should happen is that when a wireless laptop connects to the internet, the DHCP should allocate an IP address to the laptop and should be able to have access to the internet.
2.) On the wireless laptop, when searching for a wireless connection, I can see the Linksys Router and can connect. I have connection as Skype connects perfectly but yet, I cannot access the Internet. When typing in a website address, it comes up saying "Unable to Display Page". If I type in http://216.239.51.100 I get the google home page but if I type in the web address, nothing !! I have been told that it could be a DNS problem but no one can tell me how to fix it. Any suggestions?
Can anybody out there shed some light on these 2 issues?
    Thank you
    Heinz

  • No internet in X.6 with d-link

I can't connect to internet with modem D-link 300-t, system not comunicate with modem, errore of memory allocation. I shall use the old system X.5, but i've payed.
How i can do? Thank you.

I contacted apple support who said that this type of modem was **** to set up and configure to properly work with the airport due to it not having a briging mode. i was sold the modem on advice that it would work with airport by john lewis and so i simply changed to a netgear modem that was reccommendedto me by apple. everything now works fine but thanks for your help.

  • No internet, "PPPoE Server Not Found" message. Same problem with both old and new modems.

    Help please!
My internet connection with my old Westell 6100 modem was working fine, then quit all of the sudden and would not restart. The DSL and Data lights on the Westell modem were both green. The Internet light alternated between red and off.
I tried every troubleshooting thing I could think of:
Powering down and re-starting the modem and computer.
    Resetting the modem.
Checking all of the wire and jack connections.
I plugged my computer ethernet cable straight into the modem, bypassing my router.
I tried both Windows and Mac computers.
I plugged the modem directly into the network interface on the outside of my house to bypass all of my house wiring.
I checked all my phone jacks with a telephone tester to make sure both phone lines were working and not reverse-wired.
I made sure I did not have a DSL filter installed on the modem line.
Verizon Tech Support did a line test and told me the line was fine but that there might be a problem with either my modem or something at the "central office" (not sure what that means). Verizon also sent me a new router as well -- a D-Link DSL-2750B.
The new D-Link router also does not connect to the internet (same problem). The DSL, Data, and Internet lights are all green on the D-Link. I have the computer directly connected to the modem with a new ethernet cable. I repeated the above troubleshooting steps. I went into the router configuration 192.168.1.1 and ran the modem's "Internet Troubleshooting" tests.
There were two error messages on the router configuration screens:
1."PPPoE Server not found" error message is shown on the summary screen.
2."No internet infrastructure present. Please call your infrastructure provider." is shown in the "internet troubleshooting" test results.
Verizon had me change some settings inside the router configuration -- no dice. Verizon ran another line test. A "Level 2 Tech" took over the call and told me that he thinks that the cause of the problem is that the outside wiring coming to my house is reverse-wired. How can this be true since my DSL worked for 2 years before this, my phone line tester indicates my phone lines are wired the right way, and my router reports "PPPoE Server Not Found?"
Verizon is sending out a repair tech to check the outside wiring but I don't think that is the problem at all.

If you're getting DSL sync (solid DSL light), this sounds like a case of a bad line card to me. I've seen it happen before where it wasn't an account or route issue to the network.

  • EA6900 PPPOE problems with D-link DSL-320b

    Hi
I really hope someone can help as I can't seem to find a working answer in the forum yet.
I have a new D-Link DSL-320B modem/router. This works fine as a modem/router, however as I also now have a Linksys EA6900 router I wanted to stop the router part of the D-link so it would just be a modem. I assume this would be a good thing to do, but don't really know why.
I followed instructions to configure the D-Link modem/router as a bridge:
I set the Manual ASDL Connection Setup in Bridge mode '1483 Bridged IP LLC' (note I also tried in the 'Bridged IP VC-Mux' option at a later point), VPI 0 and VCI 38 (as per my ISP instructions), saved the settings and then under the LAN tab I disabled the DHCP Server, saved the settings and lost internet connection (which I expected).
I then attached the D-Link into the WAN port of the EA6900, the computer via ethernet to one of the 4 ethernet ports on the EA6900 and manually set up the EA6900.
Under 'Connectivity'-'Internet Settings' I set up the ipv4 to:
    Connection Type: PPPoE
Username/Password (as provided by my ISP which had previously worked in the D-Link standalone)
    Service name (left blank)
Connection mode: Keep Alive, redial 30 secs
On the right hand side of the page, I set the MTU to manual and size to 1432 (again as per my ISP instructions on setting up routers).
However, after pressing applying, whilst the device is connected to the router, the router is not connected to the internet.
Am I missing something? Should I just leave my DSL D-Link with the ADSL connection and DHCP server enabled and put the EA6900 into Connection Type: automatic configuration -DHCP? as this does give me internet access.
    Please help.
    Many thanks in advance
    Hannah

To isolate the issue I recommend connecting a computer directly to the modem. The create PPPoe connection to test whether or not the Modem is actually bridging as per your ISP instructions. Once you verify that the modem is bridging with your computer transfer those settings to the EA6900. Don't change the MTU from Auto initially. Only change the MTU if you notice you can get to some site and not others. That's typically a sign that there is an MTU issue. Actually for PPPoe the MTU is typically 1492.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Cannot get my Microcell tower to work with Century link

Please HELP!!My microcell tower is not working. At&t says it is because ports are not open with Century Link. Century link suposedly opened them up but they are NOT open.... Can anyone walk me through how to open those ports properly as I am about to lose my mind. I have spent 10 hours on the phone, in 2 days, between At&t and Centurylink!!!

Is it all four ports or just port 4500? Is this a new MicroCell of did you buy it from eBay?
If the ports truly are blocked then unfortunately it's between you and CenturyLink to open them up. AT&T can not force an ISP to open up the ports nor can they determine if the ports are closed on the ISP side or it's an upstream switch that has failed.
There is no way on the consumer side of the things to open ports other than ensure that the router is configured correctly and is freely passing data to and from the required ports. That again is up to you and CenturyLink to determine if the router is configured correctly. There are just way too many routers, firmware upgrades, LAN setups etc for AT&T to keep track of and current with. Besides, they don't want to be responsible for hepling someone configure their LAN in case something goes wrong, which makes perfect sense to me. If there is someone here who has CenturyLink and is willing to walk you thru checking and configuring your router that's great. Otherwise you will have to work that out youself. I know this sounds harsh but that's the reality of it.
Quite often if the ISP supplies you with a router/modem it's pre-configured to work with their system and that might not be compatilble with the publicized AT&T MircroCell router requirements, which are fairly basic.
Which MicroCell do you have and what is the light pattern on the front?

  • Creating a link with the Link Tool

I used the Link Tool to create a Link in my pdf file.  The link is set to open a website file.  I created 2, one with just a little text and the other was a picture that was 200 X 300 px.  When I follow the links, each is opening a full web page.  I expected that with the Text link because I put the text on an html page but the picture I sized to the 200X300 but that opened a full web page also.  When setting up the link to the Web File I did not see an additional settings as far as how to open the web page such as _parent or _child etc.  I believe it is normally the Target.
Does anyone know how I would either do this with the link tool or know of a better way to do it overall?
    Thanks
    Bob

    Hi,
You may be confusing HTML markup for links with PDF links.
In PDF, HTML markup is not applicable.
So "target_xxxx" or any other HTML 'stuff' cannot be used.
For the graphic file (JPG, PNG, whatever), make a web page file that is configured to display the graphic file in a manner you desire.
The web link you set in the PDF, with Acrobat, will result in this web page file opening.
This is the file that will control how the graphic is rendered.
If needed, a resource for HTML "how to" is W3 Schools.
    Be well...

  • How do I set up a Apple TC with a Verizon FIOS wireless modem model  Actiontec 424wi F series.  Does the wifi in the modem have to be shut off and will it effect the FIOS tv?

How do I set up an Apple TC with a Verizon FIOS wireless modem model MI424wr F.  Does the wifi have to be turned off in the modem and then bridge it to the TC?  Will FIOS tv be effected?

Your first call should be to Verizon support to ask them if you turn off the wireless on the Actiontec router....will it affect any of the features/functions of the FIOS system?
If yes, then it would be best to leave the Actiontec router "as is" and connect the Time Capsule using Ethernet in Bridge Mode as a back up device only (wireless is turned off on the Time Capsule).
If you want to use the dual band (and likely much faster) wireless capability of the Time Capsule, then you should turn off the wireless on the Actiontec device to help prevent wireless interference effects that will likely occur when two wireless routers are in close proximity to each other.
Again, the Time Capsule would be connected to the Actiontec router using an Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Actiontec router to the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule. Configure the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode as well in this type of configuration.
Bottom line....what Verizon says will pretty much dictate how you can set up the TIme Capsule.

  • Support for multiple OpenVPN configurations with systemd

In Debian I just put the OpenVPN configurations in /etc/openvpn. This makes all of them start automatically at boot time.
    In Arch I tried with
    systemctl start [email protected]
Where FILENAME is the filename of a OpenVPN configuration in /etc/openvpn. This brings up OpenVPN but it also brings down all other OpenVPN configurations started this way.
How should I go about solving this, and getting a similar behaviour as in Debian?

With your mail it is not clear if you did this...
Yeah I'm not having an issue with OpenVPN. Those configurations work well. They also start with systemctl, BUT it's only possible to run one OpenVPN instance at a time through systemd on Arch Linux.
So my issue is Arch Linux or systemd specific.

  • Communications problem with radio link

A customer has a network composed from a LAN shared-media (with hub 8-ports), a router linked to three modems wich link to three 9.6 kbps radio links. These radio links have linked to another three modems and PC remotes. The problem is that in LAN side, we communicate with only one remote PC, and the other two remote PC can't do it. What could be the source of the problem? Maybe CSMA/CD?
    Thanks for the help.

  • Passing a form bean  with a link

    Hii Javaties
I am passing some parameters from a jsp page to the action class in the following manner
    2=<bean write name="formbean" property="prop2" />Link
Can anyone tell me is this the right approach to pass paramters from a link .
Can i pass the whole form bean with a link ?

From what I understand you are using Struts, and as much as I know you have to configure struts so that when you click for example on a link with the url set as hello.do, it will actually get the hello form bean and handle it. However as much as I know you have to do this from the xml configuration!
I am not expert in struts however, but that is my feeling.

  • 10.1.2.3.0 CP2 Viewer Issue with Managed Links

With this patch workbooks with managed links that were operational passing a blank (optional) parameter now pass 'NULL' as the value. This is bug 7422080. We are in the process of downloading CP5, which is suppose to resolve this issue. This will take time. Can anyone think of a possible workaround? The workaround explained in the bug does not work, which was to edit the parameter, add a default value, then edit it again, remove the default value and save the workbook. I have also tried ' ' as a default value but it just passes ' '. It would be nice to have a workaround until we can install, test and upgrade to CP5.
    Thanks,
    Jerre

    Michael,
Below is the file change. When we set it to 'true' Viewer performed correctly.

    2. Then a new configuration parameter "passNullParameterAsNull" needs to be set in configuration.xml under <viewer section with default value as false and which is an optional one. Usage :
    <viewer queryRefreshPeriod="3000" queryRequestTimeout="1000" longRequestRefreshPeriod="6000" longRequestTimeout="10000" userDefinedConnections="true" passNullParameterAsNull="true" logLevel="debug" laf="dc_blaf" pageNavigation="true" switchWorksheetBehavior="prompt" defaultLocale="en" disableBrowserCaching="false" enableAppsSSOConnection="false">
When passNullParameterAsNull="false" , that means, when null is passed as parameter from one sheet to another during drill to link, the value will be converted in between to the value which is set as "ShowNullValueAs" in second sheet. eg: if ShowNullValueAs = "" in second sheet. Null value passed from first sheet will reach as value "" in second sheet. If passNullParameterAsNull="true", then Null value will always be passed as Null to second sheet irrespective of the value of "ShowNullValueAs" in second sheet.
