Conflict between iPhone .Mac mail and iMac

I have noticed that once my iPhone has picked up may mail from my .Mac account it is removed, so when I try and retrieve my mail on my iMac, there is nothing to collect. On most mail account you can stop this from happening, but I cannot see a way of doing this on the .Mac settings on the iPhone, any ideas???

Are you using the Mail.app on your Mac to access your .Mac account and if so, what is the account type?
A .Mac account can be accessed as a .Mac type account, IMAP or POP account with the Mail.app on a Mac or as an IMAP or POP account with other email clients.
A .Mac type account with the Mail.app is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way and when creating the account with the Mail.app, .Mac is the default account type.
Did you transfer your .Mac account settings from your Mac to your iPhone via the sync process or did you manually create the account on the iPhone?

  • Conflict between program Mac mail and program Microsoft Outlook e-mail???

Denmark, Kolding, 30th of September 2010
A conflict between program Mac mail and program Microsoft Outlook e-mail?
For several months tried to discuss and resolve with several Apple specialists/support, but without much luck.
Therefore I have discussed these issues with 2 different and independent Mac users to find out in testing other Mac users will have the same problems as outlined in the below mentioned situations.
I will therefore outline the coverage issues, as mentioned, including occurs on my iMac 21.5 " with serial number: <Edited by Host> and 2 friends with their Macbooks of new dates as follows:
    1. Sending from my Mac plain mail as "plain text "(during formatting):
Plain text mail as "Plain Text "(during formatting) Verdana font size 10, sent and received on Windows PC with the correct letter size - but with the font changed to Century Gothic!!!
    2. Sending from my Mac plain mail "formatted text" (during formatting):
Eg. with my signature/signature-colored types and Verdana as font and size 10, possibly with underlining and italics in the text dispatched - the mail received as text with New Times Roman size 12 and signing /signature color Verdana now in size 13.5!!!!
    3. Sending plain mail "as normal text "(during formatting)
In the mail text underlined and made bold - the program asks whether to convert to RTF format (to keep underlining, bold, etc.) and Verdana as font and size 10, YES - this mail is received on the Windows PC as text with New Times Roman with the desired underlining and bold text and size 12!!!!
    4. Plain text mail as "formatted Text"
Eg. with signature / signature-colored types and Verdana as font and size 10, possibly with underlining and italics in the text sent - received as text with New Times Roman and signing / signature as colored Verdana now in size 13.5!!!
    5. Sending mail with file attached:
After producing a normal text document modified to PDF and directly from the Adobe Reader sent this PDF file in e-mail formatted as normal text with font Verdana 10 point, with signature. This is received on the Windows PC with a PDF file OK, but the font of the mail text is changed to Century Gothic and missing signature. Signature is available as an attachment on the Windows Outlook e-mail program as a ATT00113.text file. This can be opened and there is the missing signature!
    6. Sending e-mail with photos directly from iPhoto
iPhoto opens and click on the desired photos eg. 5 pcs. (Exactly as mentioned in the demo video!) and click on the e-mail icon at iPhoto and the program opens and e-mail that is opened with the attached photos and rich text is being used in the mail. Signature disappears and must be clicked on the mail by the sender.
The mail is received with the attached pictures OK - text changed to Times Roman with the desired bold - though no signature and 5 pcs. Att0028.html files attached. These can be opened and contains the file number each picture!
The above problems can be partly avoided by the following:
    1. Only send mails as plain text
Without any underlining, attachments, etc.. When the Windows PC Outlook receiver opens the mail where only the text fond is changed!!
    2. Sending mail with attached file
Start opening the mail program and use formatted plain text first and then attach (with the staple) file, and the Window receiver will get the file, but text and signature changed to Times New Roman size 13!!
    3. Sending mail with photos from iPhoto
Start by opening mail program text in Verdana 10 and click the Photo Browser and find (look for - takes its time!) the pictures you want to send and pull/drag them into the mail and send, - images, text and signature are in the mail on Windows PC - but with the font changed to Century Gothic!!!
If sent as formatted text with various underlining, italics, etc. together with the photos will be received OK - but the writing is now New Times Roman size 12 signatures Verdana now in size 13!!!
I must say – I am disappointed with the Mac mail program – it actually means that sending a perfect mail with underlining, colours, a.s.o. also photos directly from iPhoto – will received at a Windows computer in a totally mess.
Looking forward to some good news from either Mac supporter or some clever Mac users who can help me to adjust my Mac to avoid these problems IF POSSIBLE!!!!.
Apple/Mac is too good a product to make these problems!!
    Best regards
    Peter Larsen

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The PC sets the font on its side, the Mac does on its side for plain text. There is no "font size" in plain text coding. Rich Text gives you a bit more control, but only if both e-mail clients support it. HTML gives you a bit more control, but only if both e-mail clients support it. Use the asterisk, parenthesis, underscore, or any keyboard symbol that is part of the original ASCII. Otherwise, the chance is nobody else will be able to read it who does not have your e-mail client in the same version.
Sadly there are no e-mail standards except MIME for attachment, and even that isn't universally supported. E-mail is not the ideal medium for anything except plain text that is ASCII. To learn more about ASCII, see:

  • Have issuses pushing or syncing info between iphone mac book and entourage

I am having a problem with getting new information to my iphone. As I understood it as soon as you entered and saved information in say, you entourage calander. That inormation would be uploaded to your mobile me "cloud" and then desciminated to my other respective computers and devices. This is happening but it is slow. I added pictures to some contacts on my computer and it took several days for them to show up on my iphone. I made changes to my entourage calander and it took over an hour to show up on y phone. The same is true for phone to computer saved content. I am not sure if I am missing a setting or don't nderstand what the triggers are if any.
Also are there any good tutorials out there for mobil me. I know its new and pretty simple but I am in need of this sort of program and I would like to know everything.
I am also having a problem setting up my mobile me email in entourage I cant find the send receive address settigs.

You've posted this in the iSync forum. iSync has nothing to do with syncing iPhones or to MobileMe.

  • Is it possible to sync my mail folders/boxes between Mac mail and iPhone?

Is it possible to sync my mail folders/boxes between Mac mail and iPhone? ie. I get an email on my iphone but I also read it and store it On My Mac folders.  Is there a way this can be set up 'same' on my iphone...then I would only need to read my mail one place? Same as my iPad...I'm tired of doing the same step 3 times ONLY because my folders are only on my MAC

IMAP is a mail protocol. Your email provider must support it (most regular ISPs do not). If your mail provider supports IMAP then when you create an account on the iPhone choose "IMAP" when prompted. You cannot convert a POP3 account to IMAP; you must delete it and re-create it. But first check to see if your provider supports it. Microsoft Exchange works similarly to IMAP, but has the added feature of "pushing" mail to your phone within seconds of it being received.
With IMAP and Exchange the master copy of all mail remains on the server until deleted. Your computer(s) and iPhone sync with the server, so all of your devices will show the same messages. When you delete from one the message will be removed from all with the next sync (or immediately for Exchange).

  • Bridging the gap between Mac Mini and iMac

Does anyone agree that Apple needs to add another model between the Mac Mini and the iMac? I think they need something like a Mac Mini Plus. Two models, one with the 1.83GHz Core Duo and one with the 2.0GHz Core Duo. The unit itself would be slightly larger than the standard Mini and include a PCI Express slot with several video card options and a faster (7200RPM) hard drive. Personally, I hesitate to buy an iMac because of the built in monitor. I would prefer to buy a separate LCD flat panel monitor that I could keep for years and use with different Mac models as I upgrade. As for the current Mac Mini, it's video and processor options are on the low end, albeit perfect for the casual user, but for someone that wants to do some gaming or video editing, they don't quite cut it.
Don't get me wrong here, I love the elegant design of the iMac, but I think Apple needs to offer something that allows us to have the iMac equivalent computing power without the built in monitor and without having spend a thousand more on a PowerMac.
Athlon XP 1800+   Windows XP Pro

Yes, I'd love something in the form of a Mac Mini that was closer in spec to the iMac.
Honestly, the only reason I won't buy an iMac CoreDuo is the built-in monitor.
And, the only reason I won't buy a new Mac Mini is that they are underpowered.
I have owned two iMac G5 systems, and both had serious faults with their built-in LCD panel.
The first would permanently etch in anything on the screen for every hour of intensive use.
It wouldn't etch it in in normal use. But, if I did any of my audio work, it would heat up the system so hot that the image on the screen would literally cook into the LCD panels plastic surface.
It literally looked like you took a razor blade, and precisely carved the exact image into the surface of the screen. Pretty nasty looking. Nothing would get rid of it, and it would happen every time I did my audio editing / processing work for an hour.
Naturally, the more work I did, the worse it got. I only got two editing sessions out of an LCD panel before having it replaced.
After going through that for a while, I sold the system after having a fresh panel installed under warranty.
I got tired of damaging the screen after every hour of work.
The second iMac G5 was purchased a year later. That one also suffered permanent damage to it's LCD panel. But, not quite as noticeable.
I know that there are a bunch of people getting ready to hit me with the "Image Persistence" explanation. But, trust me, I know about Image Persistence, and this wasn't it.
I was seeing actual permanent screen burn-in (which is not supposed to happen on LCD panels).
The service tech was absolutely amazed at the appearance of my screen. And, yes we verified it was the actual panel that was damaged. He wouldn't replace it without verifying that it was the panel itself.
Anyway, I called to arrange service on the second system again, and before I could get it in there, the backlight started flickering. And, I had already had tons of other stuff fixed on the machine. So, I sold it and bailed-out.
Now, after all the problems I've had with the built-in screens on the iMac G5 systems, I don't want another Apple product with a built-in screen. I want to use my own LCD panel.
I have an LCD panel that I'm using now. It's about 3 years old, and only cost me $200. And, it doesn't have even the slightest indication of image burn-in or image persistence. I use it every day, and use it just like I did the iMacs.
So, what I want now, is a machine comparable to the iMac CoreDuo, but without the built-in screen.
The current Mac Mini's cost way too much for their very low specifications.
I already have a Mac Mini G4. It's underpowered as well. But, no worse-off than the current Mac Minis.
Now, if Apple produced a Mac Mini with identical specs to the iMac, I'd gladly buy it.
Even better for them, I'd pay the same price as the current iMac to get it without the built-in monitor.
Yes, that's right, I'd pay the full price of the iMac to get a Mac Mini without a monitor if it was of the same specifications otherwise.
The current Mac Mini is obviously stripped-down to prevent competition with the iMac. But, I think they'd find that they would simply expand their user base if they offered a better Mini.
With their product line as it is, the current Mac Mini is not a compelling machine, and the iMac is not an option because of it's built-in monitor.
Get me a high-end Mac Mini and you've got a sale.

  • File sharing between Mac Mini and iMac "breaks" after reboot of either device, and won't restore.  Why?  Running Maverick 10.9.1 on both.  File sharing is setup on both.  Help.

I'm a new user - recent convert from longtime Windows to Apple.  Thought having desktops and computing aligned with phones and tablets would help.  Not so far.
I have a MacMini running Mavericks 10.9.1, and an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.1.  File Sharing is set up on both.  If either device is rebooted for any reason, file sharing from the Mac Mini to the iMac "breaks" and will not easily restart.  Various things eventually brings the connection back - usually having to do with checking and unchecking File Sharing, the AFP button, and/or the SMB button on the iMac - but never the same procedure twice in a row.  File Sharing from the iMac to the Mac Mini is never disrupted - always comes back up without a problem.  Screen Sharing also works between both without fail, and comes up after reboot of either.  No problem there.  Only difficulty is from Mac Mini to the iMac.
    Why?  Any ideas?

Should also clarify - usually takes multiple hours of checking/unchecking file sharing settings in order to restore the share between Mac Mini and iMac.  NEVER happens automatically.
This is disruptive because I've got the Mac Mini pointing to several file locations on the iMac for various things - photos, music, etc. - and they all hang up unless the share is restored.  Real bummer.

  • How to disable syncing between .Mac mail and Mail.app?

    Howdy everyone,
I'm trying to get my wife's 'new' (aka hand-me-down) 12" PowerBook set up the way she likes it. She uses .Mac Mail, and mostly uses the webmail portion, rather than the Mail.app. Anyway, she's presented me with a question that's stumped me - she wants it set up so that when she deletes a message from .Mac webmail, it stays in her Mail.app Inbox, and vice-versa. I guess you could say that she wants Mail.app to retrieve the messages from .Mac, but doesn't want their mailboxes synced.
Any ideas? I'd fiddled with the settings but can't make it work that way. I have a strong feeling that its right in front of me, but I just can't see it...
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks,
    Huxley

A .Mac type account with the Mail.app is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way.
Personal preference but FYI, webmail access is primarily designed when away from your computer and email client needing to access your email account when using a computer with internet access that is not your own.
For what your wife wants, she needs to access her .Mac account as a POP type account with the Mail.app. You can access a .Mac account as a .Mac, IMAP or POP type account with the Mail.app and as an IMAP or POP type account with other email clients.
This will require deleting and recreating the account in Mail selecting POP as the account type when the account is recreated.
All messages that remain on the server will not be affected by this but any messages sent by the account with the Mail.app that are not stored on the server will be deleted when deleting the account in Mail.
If there are any messages in the account's Sent mailbox that need to be saved, transfer all messages from the account's Sent mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox before deleting and re-creating the account.
After re-creating the account in Mail as a POP type account, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences is a setting for removing messages from the server when downloaded. This should not be selected so no messages will be removed/deleted from the server when downloaded by Mail.
Deleting a message from the server via webmail access for the account will have no effect on messages already downloaded from the server by Mail.

When I recieve messages to my @me.com account on my Mac, I don't recive them when I log into icloud.com website. All my sent emails from the Mac Mail DO show up in both places (Mac Mail and iCloud).
My iOS devices don't have this problem. Any one have an explanation or what I'm misconfiguring?  I had the same problem with Lion as I am with Mountain Lion

  • How do I make Mac mail and iOS Mail sync to each other with a google apps (not traditional gmail) mail account?

I have a google apps mail account in the form [email protected] I have successfully set up both my mac (A1342) Mail and my iPhone (5c) mail so I get my account on both devices. However, when I read an email on my iphone, it remains unread on my mac (and vice versa). But if I read an email on either, the copy in my Gmail inbox on the web is correctly changed to read. How do I set up my mac Mail and iOS mail so they interact with eachother?
I am running OSX 10.9 and iOS 7.

Set the account (on the Mac) as an Imap account, it seems as though it is currently set as POP.

  • Mac Mail and Outlook 2007

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been asked and answered already, but I browsed the forums and couldn't find the answer so my apologies if I missed it.
I recently purchased a PC with Windows 7. I opened up Outlook 2007 and configured my email by typing in my mac mail address and password. I figured that it would just duplicate my email in my mac mail. However, it took all my mac mail and moved it to outlook on my new PC.
I prefer mac mail as I have it sent directly to my iphone for convenience, but I don't mind using Outlook as well.
First of all: Is there a way to get all my mail back to my macbook?
Second: Is there a way I can have the best of both worlds and have Outlook 2007 and Mac Mail sync together?
Thank you for any help or direction on where I can find the answer to my questions.

I've tried everything and still not found a solution too.
I am unable to work remotely.

  • Notes does not sync between iPhone 6 plus and iPad Air

The Notes app does not sync between iPhone 6 plus and iPad Air. These used to sync before when I had an iPhone 4. I have been trying to troubleshoot this for about an hour now, so all the basics such as deciding on a default Notes account, to turning on and off iCloud functions for both devices, as well as signing out of of my apple account on both devices, then back in. Nothing seems to be working - is this a fault in the current iOs?? It's driving me nuts.

    You can't pair iOS devices.
    that's not how continuity works.

Hi and Welcome to the (user-to-user) Community!
    Please refer to this:
KB05133 Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service
All reconciliation is between your BB and your email server, as governed by that KB (coupled with being configured correctly). I don't know where "mac mail and tiscali" fit into that, but that KB governs what should or should not work.
On the other hand, if the issue is another email client (on your laptop, for instance), then that's governed by whatever the capabilities are between your laptop email client and your email server. Many cannot handle full reconciliation with the server, but you would have to contact whoever provided the email client to know for sure. There is zero reconciliation directly between your BB and your other email client.
Hope that helps! Good luck and let us know!
