  • Auscompgeek: latest Firefox update has caused a conflict with Norton 360

Latest Firefox update has caused a conflict with Norton 360 "Web Safe" feature when using Yahoo search - no icons visible, i.e., green check mark for OK, gray for not enough info in Norton user data base, RED for unsafe
"Web Safe" feature functions in Firefox if Norton tool bar search is used (powered by ASK) - functions in IE8 when Yahoo search is used.
Problem is isolated to Firefox / Yahoo search.
No prior history of similar problem.

  • NORTON 360 IDENTITY SAFE MENU DOESN'T APPEAR. HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

None of the features of Norton 360 Identity Safe seem to work after I upgraded to Firefox 4.0. How can I fix this, or do I have to go back to the previous version of FF?

Symantec have made an update for their add-ons to work in Firefox 4, but they only listed them as compatible with Firefox 4.0, they need to update them to let them work in Firefox 4.0.1. They have indicated this will be very soon, for details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-product-compatibility-with-Firefox-Updates/m-p/443808

  • Is Firefox 4 RC compatible with Norton 360 5.0? Can I safetly use Firefox 4 RC right now?

Will my Norton 360 properly protect me using Firefox 4 RC?

FireFox 4 appears to be supported now (as of April 6) with Norton 360 5.0 PLUS A HOTFIX. See <http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US> for details.
That link also indicates a free update from 360 4.0 to 360 5.0. I haven't tried that yet.

  • After updating to firefox 17.0 when I do a scan with Norton 360 it does not pick up tracking cookies what has changed from 16.0.02

After updating to firefox 17.0 when I do a scan with Norton 360 it no longer picks up tracking cookies. These cookies that were picked up with firefox 16.0.02 what have you changed? Further I am getting sick of these updates - at least tell us users what has changed in new versions.

Did you update Norton to the latest version to get support for Firefox 17?

  • Is latest (10.1) Firefox compatable with Norton 360 safe web/identity safe toolbar

It is REALLY annoying when the first notice of the availability of this latest version says Norton 360 toolbar (Safe Web and Identity Safe) are not yet supported by Norton, and then the later notices of the availability of this update is TOTALLY silent on this issue.
The last time I upgraded, after Norton was "supposedly" supported on the Toolbar, I wound up having to run Norton LiveUpdate 13 times before the toolbar installed.
Anyone know about Norton and this latest release.
I am QUITE sure that more than a few Firefox users use Norton 360, and Moxilla needs to do a better job of at least INFORMING US if an offered upgrade is or is not compatible.
    Thanks!!!!!!

Above link did not work for me to fix missing toolbar. Contacted Norton Support via Chat and they logged into my system and tried to fix the issue over a 4 hour period!!! Even a higher level tech was unable to fix it and he, as I was watching him, seemed to really know what he was doing but it never showed in FF 10.0.2 on my Windows 7 64-bit PC. My 32-bit PC running FF 10.0.2 works fine in showing the toolbar. Norton tech support feels it has something to do with the 64-bit version causing the toolbar not to show. Are there any 64-bit Windows 7 Pro PC owners that are still having this issue? AND are there any 64-bit Windows 7 Pro PC owners running FF 10.0.2 that HAVE the toolbar?

  • Is the most recent version compatible with Norton 360 gold, especially Identity Safe? I had problems with the last new version of Firefox. Sian MacKian

That is it really. I had to get help from Norton last time.

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

  • How can I download FF 6? FF 7.0.1.4288 (the version I am using) is not compatible with Norton 360. I need to return to FF 6.

FF 7.0.1.4288 intermittently uses 97-100% of CPU capacity for a few seconds, alternating with a few seconds of normal idle usage; this can continue for long periods. During these periods the computer responds very slowly. I can terminate it (temporarily) by rebooting.
FF 7 occasionally uses 97-100% of capacity continuously for several minutes; my impression is that it would continue indefinitely if I did not reboot. When I try to reboot in this condition, FF does not respond, I have to click End Now, in which case previous sessions are not saved.
Norton believes this is due to an interaction between FF 7 and Norton 360. They say that 7.0.1.4288 is a beta version. Norton tells me that 360 should become compatible with FF 7 in a month or two. In the mean time I need to reinstall FF 6.
I cannot see how to do this on your website.
    Please help.

Firefox 7.0.1 is an update to Firefox 7.0 and there was no beta of Firefox 7.0.1.
You may need to update Norton. A patch for their toolbar to make it compatible with Firefox 7 was released on the same day that Firefox 7 was released. You may need to run Norton's "Live Update" several times to get all that is needed.

Does not relate to your question, but...
You have multiple old Java Console extensions that Java did not clean-up during updates. You need Java Console only if you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages. You can see them in Add-ons > Extensions, '''''but you can not remove them from there'''''. Removing them will not affect the functioning of Java on websites. You can '''''manually''''' remove them, '''''if you do not do Java development work''''' to avoid future, possible problems/conflicts:

  • How do I revert from ver. 4.0 to ver. 3.6? Version 4.0 is not compatible with Norton 360 at this time.

When I upgraded to version 4.0 I lost my "Identity Safe" in Norton 360. I was told by Norton that they are working on an upgrade. I want to revert to 3.6 until that is available.

Did Norton give you a time scale for when it will be available?
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6.* you can uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install Firefox 3.6.* available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.

  • FF 4.0 incompatible with Norton 360. How do I uninstall 4.0 and go back to 3.6?

I want to back out of FF 4.0 and go to older version 3.6 because I cannot use Norton 360 that I absolutely need and rely on. Can someone send a link about how to uninstall 4.0 and reinstall 3.6?

  • Is Firefox 9.0 compatible with Norton Safe Identity?

Current version of Norton Safe Identity Toolbar

    Hi,
Norton has been updating the toolbar regularly to ensure compatibility with Firefox releases. You may have to update Norton or run LiveUpdate. Please [http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-9-Support-for-Norton-Toolbar/td-p/615563 see this.]

  • Screen Flashes with Norton 360 Software

    Hi
I own a Toshiba Satelitte Pro C850 running Windows 8 and recently needed to updgrace my antivrius software
I opted it for Norton 360 as it was on special offer from PC World.
After installing it I went into my desktop and the screen starting flashing every few seconds. I went back onto the main screen and it continued to flash.
I went online and found that Norton 360 was the problem and so I went into safe mode to uninstall and the problem was solved.
I've shelled out £30, have I jumped the gun and removed it with changing some of the system settings?
Would disabling windows error report service have worked?

The core functionality such as antivirus and firewall will still work, it is the add-ons that will no longer work. If you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
