Conflicting info on maximum ram for older macbook

System profiler says this:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook1,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MB11.0061.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.4f12
What is the maximum ram it can use? Thank you.

The original MacBooks, which it appears is what you have as it has the Intel Core Duo processor rather than the Core 2 Duo, max out at 2GB of RAM.
Best of luck.

  • Maximum RAM for latest Macbook Model? (May 2007)

According to Apple the maximum RAM supported is 2GB. However as you can see on https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/MemoryBenchmark/AppleMacBook/ the Macbook can take up to 4GB!
Does anybody know the real hardware limit of the Macbook?

It only uses 3 gb but if you use 4 gb you have balanced RAM for best graphics speed.
In the article you linked to it states this also.

  • What is the maximum RAM for 2008 MacBook pro

I've seen some here say they have 8gb. Manual says 4 is max. What is the correct number?

    You're welcome.
My late 08 Uni also states 4GB Max but been running 8GB for a year now.
Same with my 1 month old late 2011.  Specs says 8GB Max.  Been running it with 16GB the day I bought it.
I have Crucial installed in both my Macbooks.
If your MB works for you, then just use it with the RAM upgrade so it can last you for awhile.  You'll see a difference in speed.
Another thing to check is your hard drive.  If it's almost full, delete some files you're not using and clear your cache memory once in a while.
An almost full hard drive also slows down your MB.

  • Whats the maximum RAM for my MacBook Pro?

    Thanks to any and all.
    MT3

Sorry, I thought i included that info.
From what i found online, it looks as if 4GB is the max. However i can't figure out if thats per slot, or if I can put 2GB in each available slot.
I currently have 1GB SDRAM per slot.

  • MAXIMUM RAM for MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo Mid 2010

What is the MAXIMUM RAM for MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mid 2010 - 24MC374LL/A, running OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)?
I tried to search for this but was unable to find anything.
Apple Specs say 8GB, but I was just told by someone I THINK would know, that you can actually go up to 16GB.
This would be an enormous improvement to my workflow if true.
Anyone out there know for certain?
Making sure before I buy (or NOT!)
    Thanks.

I just found this post and I realize this is a late response but maybe it will help others.
Based on recent circumstances I just happened to have two 8GB DDR3 modules collecting dust. Having an old trusty MacMini as my media center, server among other things and whatnot, I was curious if I could bump this little thing to 16GB. In doing so I found this post and verified with OWC.
    End result:
Booted with no issues, and is running nice and smooth. Should be noted that just adding 16GB of RAM to a Core 2 Duo will not make the machine lightning fast or become some amazing computing platform. It will just make the box run a bit quicker and give you the ability to have more applications open before you begin to note some lag.
However this is really nice to see:

I am looking to buy more ram for my macbook, but I don't know what to look for. Do I have to buy 2x 4GB and get rid of my old ram or I can buy 2 x 2GB and use them all together?
Also, same with HD. I need more HD as well. Can I install another harddrive as well?

There are only 2 slots for RAM. So, you'd need to replace one of the 2 GB sticks with a 4 GB stick for a total of 6 GB, or replace both for a total of 8 GB.
Yes, you can replace the HDD with a larger one as well. There are instructions in the manual.

  • Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro.

Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro but dont know if it will have negative affects on my computer, should i do it?

Only if you install it wrong or use the wrong RAM.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Use the free Crucil.com checker to doublecheck if you need too.
You don't want Apple to do it, they quoted me $435 to upgrade $70 worth of RAM.
Do it yourself or have a local geek friend (PC or Mac) do it, it's not hard, unles you got bad eyesight and can't see the tiny screws. Use a catch mat, follow proper anti-static and handling. (touch only plastic)
Break something inside, your on your own though. No warranty coverqge or AppleCare for self inflicted damage.

  • Maximum RAM for iMac 2006 5.2 17" C2D

Having followed the discussions on maximum RAM for this model it  appears that 2GB is the maximum possible. I discovered this after purchasing a matching pair of 2GB sticks of RAM :-(
However, as the iMac would not start with the 2 x 2Gb sticks I tried various combinations 1 x 2Gb & 1 x 1Gb, swapping these between the two slots etc etc until the final combination of 1x 2GB and 1 x 256Mb works. I am tempted to purchase a stick of 512mb to see what happens next but I am intrigued as to why the higher combinations do not work, any thoughts on this are welcome.
All the memory is DDR2 667MHz but the combination that works has the 2gb at 2rx8 and the 256Mb at 1rx16.
    Spec of machine is : iMac 2006 5.2 17", C2D 1.83ghz, 24x Combodrive, 10.6.8

I would use 2 x 1GB, as the Intel architecture runs just a little faster with matched memory (around 3%-5%).
While 2GB + 256MB boots, have you looked to see what the system is showing as available memory?

  • How to find the right info on maximum ram expansion

I have a MacBook Pro model 3,1 identified by the support pages also as MacBook Pro 15" /2.2/2.4 GHz. I would like to increase its system memory capacity maximally (presently 2 Gb). On the page MacBook Pro (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications which I found by entering the serial number (W87445ASX91) it says that max capacity is 3 Gb. On the other hand, on the page MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory - Apple Support it says that maximum capacity for "MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz)" is 4 Gb. Which one is correct? How can I find out?

  • Finding compatible OS X for older MacBook Air

Work in an IT department and was giving an older MacBook Air with 10.5.8 on it.  I want to know is there any place that can show me what version each model can be upgraded to?  I seriously doubt this one will be compatible with Maverick.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against MacBookAir2,1, which is the earliest MacBook Air model capable of running Mavericks.
A computer incapable of running Mountain Lion which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available by clicking here. Neither Mavericks nor Lion support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.
Regardless of which model you have, you’ll need a retail Snow Leopard DVD and a DVD drive to upgrade.
