Conflicts Using New ATV with old ATV...

This may be a stupid question, but is there any limitation in having an old and a new ATV hooked up at the same time?
2nd question. I have a subscription to MLB.com that provides video/sound of almost all baseball games on my MBP. I can watch them on my big screen if I jack in my HDMI output cable to a spare HDMI port on my flat screen. I'm wondering if I would be able to stream them instead with a new ATV instead of messing around with cabling.

The new Apple TV has a MBL feature, you wouldn't need any cables or your MBP to watch baseball if you had the Apple tv.

  • Trying to use new nano with old mac

Hi, I was wondering if someone could give me some advice.
I recently received an ipod nano as a gift. Unfortunately, my ibook is from 2001, and i am still running the original OS 10.
From what I have read in these discussion forums, it would probably not be wise for me to try to install OS 10.4 on my computer. However, I believe that OS 10.4 is needed for my computer to be compatible to my nano.
I have hundreds of songs on my ibook, which I would really like to transfer to my new ipod. What can I do?
    thanx
    ibook Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Apple's minimum specs for the Nano are 10.3.x basically because that was the first version of the MacOS to support USB 2. However, many people, including my wife, are using a Nano with computers that have USB 1. So the real limiting factor is what version of the OS your computer can comfortably run. I wouldn't recommend 10.4 but 10.3 is certainly doable. I know several people running around with the colored iBooks running 10.3. And certainly 10.2 is doable though I don't know if iTunes 6 will run on Jaguar.

  • Using new Mac with old Iphone formerly used with Windows

I had my Iphone synced with a PC that literally burned up unexpectedly. I replaced it with a Mac and want to sync my phone, however, when I click to manage content manually, a message pops up telling me that my phone will be erased (!!). Because I have lots of music and apps on the phone, I don't want to go back to square one. What do I need to do to make the new computer work with my phone?
When I rip music from a CD, I can't drag the album to the phone; I have to copy them manually.
Also, I used to be able to rearrange icons on my phone via Itunes and that doesn't work either with the Mac. I have "authorized" the phone, but it didn't make any difference in anything.

I think you have to reformat the phone for a mac.
    This post

Tells you how to back it up, then reformat for mac, then restore
    from your backup.

  • Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?  It used to work with old Airport Extreme with updates thru Snow Leopard but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA.

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?  It used to work with old Airport Extreme network, run from a intel iMac with updates thru Mavericks but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA and can't connect to Time Capsule.  Airport Extreme Base was controllable from either computer up through Snow Leopard (I didn't do any of the Lion upgrades).  Then when I upgraded to Mavericks I lost the ability to use Airport Utility with this hardware on the Sunflower but could still connect wirelessly to network without any problems.  But now with the Time Capsule upgrade the Sunflower is blocked from network by a dialogue that requests ony WEP password, not WPA pwd used by Time Capsule.  Neither can I use the old airport extreme base to extend the time capsule network since I can't input the correct password/encryption approach to join it.  Is there a work around?  Would a newer but old Airport Express be able to extend network to Sunflower?  Or maybe a third party wireless (such as Netgear, Dlink, etc) that has browser type control rather than special utility?
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network.  Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this--so is it true now that the only access control is via WPA2 pwd now (which appears to be the encryption pwd and not the time capsule pwd)?

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?
I can’t claim to completely grasp the issue(s) you’re describing, but the underlying problem is presumably your iMac’s obsolete AirPort card. Whatever the case, an obvious (if not particularly helpful) answer to your stated question would be to connect your iMac with an ethernet cable, using powerline adapters as an alternative if you don’t want to have wire running all over the place.
My still fully functional clamshell iBook, with an original AirPort card, connects wirelessly to my 4th Generation TC network by means of a cheap 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter. This might be an option for you too.
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network.  Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this
When you edit your TC's settings the access controls appear under the Network tab, don't they?

Yeah, that worked for me, but it's an indication that some work needs to be done. One needs to AVOID running this as root, and so I think thats going to be the first challenge for the amarok1 maintainer. The ONLY thing we should use root for is the actual installation, not the compilation.

  • Using new trackpad with new iMac

Using new trackpad with new iMac, but can't seem to get the "touch function" to work. I still have to press firmly and click on the trackpad to get response. The videos show "touch" while I  "firm press and click."  Checked speed, cleaned it, and reset. No luck?? Ideas? Even took back to Best Buy and seemed to work with their display...

Assuming you are talking about tap to click, you would need to enable it. It is disabled by default. Go to settings and choose trackpad settings. Navigate to "Point and Click" tab and enable "Tap to Click".

  • Ingest new version with old version archived - Revisited & solved

I couldn't react to the old thread anymore, but I'd like to share the solution with this forum, because it shows the power of the default functionality in the system.
Start situation: asset is archived, new version comes in, overwrite is set to 'on'.
What happens and could happen afterwards: new version 'takes the place' on the hard drive of the old version, new proxies are created, the archive flag on the asset is still on. A restore would place the old version back on the hard drive erasing the new version. No new proxies are created, so original asset would be old version, proxies are from new version. New version - Original Media is lost.
So this is how I solved it:
I created a subscription - event type = modified - in which the Asset Filter is set to:
    Archive Status EQUALS Offline
File Modification Date: the Trigger-if-changed box is ticked.
The response is changing the status of the asset to 'New Version'.
A second subsription - event type = modified - has the Asset Filter set to:
    Archive Status EQUALS Offline
(Asset) Status EQUALS 'New Version' with Trigger-if-changed box ticked.
    The response is:
    1. changing the status to 'Completed'
    2. duplicating the file to another device, "Archive_Exchange" (no Asset, no Proxy created)
    3. restoring the (old) file from the archive.
A third subscription - event type = modified - is subscribing to a job:
    The job filter is:
    Title CONTAINS 'Restoring'
    Owner EQUALS 'admin'
Status EQUALS 'DONE' - Trigger-if-changed box is ticked
plus definition of FROM and TO devices.
    The response is:
Scan the device "Archive_Exchange"; the only metadata which is set here is:
Metadata Set equals 'Media' and status equals 'New Version'. No proxies needed.
Subscription #4 - event type = created - is looking for the newly created asset on 'Archive_Exchange'
So filter is: Metadata Set EQUALS Media, Device (Stored On) EQUALS Archive_Exchange and status EQUALS 'New Version'.
The response is this time exactly the same response as when this new version had come in while the old version was not in the archive. So it's copying the new version in the usual device, overwriting the old version and that's it! To keep the temporary device Archive_Exchange clean, there is also a delete response.
It's a little bit 'Working-around-the-bugs', because why is the system copying the new version to another device, while it knows the Original Media is in the archive, but still, it works and the beauty is: no scripts needed!
Thanks for your input; it made me understand processes better so I could create this monster.

There are two basic paradigms that you can use to interact with Final Cut Server files.
One is to let the filesystem be the master. With this, the original files are sitting in the filesystem, and anyone with permissions can mess with them. FCSvr can see changes (via scans) and update itself accordingly. File names must be unique for anything stored in the same directory.
The second method is to let FCSvr be the master. In this, you don't mess with the filesystem--all file interactions are done indirectly like through watchers, uploads, and archiving/restoring. File names must be unique, unless you create the device as a contentbase device type.
Each method can make sense at different times. Generally the second is the safer approach, but the first makes sense like for FCP capture scratch folders and production scans.
If you upload an asset directly to the FCSvr client application, it will provide you with a dialog box to prevent you from overwriting an existing file if there's a name conflict and it's not a contentbase device. (Nick, it will prompt you even if the old file is archived.)
If you choose to overwrite, the original asset will be deleted and any archive device instance will be orphaned. If that's what you're doing, I don't understand your issue since you told it to overwrite.
But if you've mixed paradigms by going behind FCSvr's back (via the Finder or Terminal) to copy a new media file into a place that FCSvr knew was reserved by an archived file and would have prevented had you done it through the client app, then you're asking for trouble.
Your solution options are: use unique names for files, store them in subfolders that are scanned, or store them in contentbase devices. For the first two you can use the project name or number to help make the file names/folder names unique.

  • Ingest new version with old version archived

Does anyone knows a solution for this:
My original asset is archived - a new version is ingested - setting is to overwrite the old version.
Final Cut Server is saving the new version on the local storage, leaving the version in the archive untouched. Proxy and thumbnails are created from the new version.
In this situation many functions are greyed out. Actually the system sort of only allows the user to restore the asset from the archive.
Restoring is overwriting the new version with the old version from the archive leaving the proxy and thumbnails as they are.
So now situation is: old version of original file on the local drive, we lost the new version all together, proxy and thumbnails from new version.
This is all very unwanted - any solutions?
    Thanks, Henk

  • Hi! I have 2 Apple IDs but cant log in one. Says info doesnt match. Choosing to receive email, but email is not comming too. Trying to create a new id with old email-denies becuase it is existing. How can I get into old AppleID? Have few expensive apps.

Could it be so that I have deleted the old AppleID? All applications are still on the device, but I cant get them on new device. When I try to create a new id with an old email, it doesnt allow saying that the address is already occupied. It means the ID exists, but I cant get in... (I was trying to change address, just dont know if I succeed or not.)
    Thank you in advance

So For everyone that is having the issue of iCloud asking for an old email there is a very simple fix, as long as its a simple switch from one email to another on one apple ID account.
    1. Sign into appleid.apple.com with your current ID.
    2. Edit the primary email to the one requested. (You DO NOT need to verify the old email.)
    3. Sign out of iCloud on any device using the old ID.
    4. Edit the primary email (on appleid.apple.com) back to the desired email address.
    5. Verify that email address.
    6. Sign into iCloud with the correct email.
As for anyone that is unable to verify their account due to not receiving the verification email, contact apple support for further assistance.

can i charge the new nano with a old ipod nano power adapter?

thank you, is it possible to use any usb outlet charger for the nano not just made by apple, from what i heard some works but some people's ipod got fried idk
It's hard to tell for certain, but if you are going to use a third party USB AC Charger, I would check for different reviews online for whether or not they are compatible with your iPod. Just double check for input and output voltages it works with and compare it to those that your iPod Nano can handle.

  • New Project with old footage stored in event library?

When I start a new movie, the footage from my last project is still saved in the event library for me to use.  I don't want to have to click through every clip to delete it.  How do I start a brand new movie from scratch?  I had quite iMovie, opened it and went straight to File>New Project, etc.  Am I doing something wrong?  Thank you for your help.

I realized the difference between new EVENT and new PROJECT.  With a new project, the old footage remains in the library.  With a new event, you can start with a clean slate.

You can use a backup such as Time Machine, to help migrate to a new computer.
•OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5872
Toward the bottom of this ^ article you can see a toggle triangle that opens more
info about using migration assistant with a time machine, or other backup HDD.
It says, "Time Machine or other disk migration." The rest may be helpful, too.
The support article below is similar to this Mavericks one. I likely could find
other online articles with additional details, as some are cited here in ASC
discussions by some of the long-time high number volunteers. I have bookmark
links to places I've been over the past 15 years, some still work. So I may have
to look through the sites to see if any are applicable to this discussion.
(A few articles may suggest upgrading the OS X in the older computer, but
I would avoid anything but a minor step to the system in your old computer
because an upgrade to an old one may be a very bad idea. It can be awful.)
There are other articles in Support, some are more specific and others try to
cover a wider range of general purpose when possible. Things change, so an
    older article may help to some extent, depending on the old OS X vintage;
should any question relate to the Mini's current OS X or what the applications
are that you may need to have similar ones of, to use documents or other files
you made in the older system & mini, in a new system in a MB/Air.
In some instances there may be a reference to a 'setup assistant' and some
of that is similar to the migration assistant; except one can be used before
you've personalized the new mac, and have it import stuff on initial boot up
of the new computer. I'd tend to wait and do that later, to see what really
can be done with the new computer, and use migration assistant later.
An older article similar to the one linked above, also mentions using setup assist.
•OS X: How to migrate from another mac using Mt Lion or earlier:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889?viewlocale=en_US
If you have an Apple Store with Genius bar, you could ask to see if they can
help you set up the new Mac, if you take your old one & backup hard drive
or time machine device in. Some can do that. However be sure that your old
Mini still has all its stuff since you may need to use it for the older applications
should some newer ones not be to your liking; or as a backup computer, if
you were planning on keeping it around. What Mini model series is it?
The Help viewer in your computer, should be able to supply you with more
information, and depending on the version OS X and its Help viewer, it
may draw information from the Support database servers online. I use a
google search or other, on occasion, & get Support articles that way, too.
Hopefully the new MacBook Air works out for you. I'd considered a MB/Pro
due to generally higher specs available, but don't really need Retina display.
So I get 'pre-buyers remorse' instead of being a compulsive buyer...
    Good luck!
