Confused about analog tv to digital conv box to comcast digital set top box

I have an analog tv which is already connected to a governmt subsidized digital signal converter box required when all tv signals went digital. I have a digital wifi modem via xfinity, and now also have an xfinity diy digital set top box. I do not have a cable splitter/extension, so I van only hook up the tv. I unplugged the modem and commented the XF digital conv box to my analog tv. Really confused as to how to hook up wifi and tv to XF digital box, and do I need the previous free digital signal conv box. All my services are activated, but I still can't watch tv.

The Comcast box replaces the old over the air box.
If you didn't get a coax splitter, you will need one, which you can pickup for free at your local Comcast office.  The coax from the TV outlet on the wall connects to the splitter's input.  The outputs of the splitter, one to the cable modem, the other to the input on the cable box.
The coax output of the cable box connects to your TV like how your old box was connected.
You will find more information at this Comcast help page, look in the TV section and pick the type of box you received from Comcast.

  • X1 digital set top box not working

Main X1 set top box works fine. Comcast messed up the order and listed the seconf box as a Phone. Been trying since last wednesday to get it straightened out and when I thought I did, only got 4 HD channels on what was told was a HD set top box. Now the box says it is not activated.  6 hrs later, still no resolution and no response. cannot get through on the 1-800 number during this time. For as much as Comcast charges, this is very poor customer service. Hoping someone has an answer.

  • So confused about the size.... how exactly should i set them?

    i've written codes like:
    JFrame fr = new JFrame ("FR");
    JTabbedPane tp = new JTabbedPane();
    JPanel pa = new JPanel();
    JTextArea ta = new JTextArea;
    fr.add(tp.add(pa.add(ta)));
    Questions:
    1. How do I set the SIZE (dimension) of the GUI (the whole thing)
    2. How do I set the size of the TextArea
    I was thinking:
setSize = set the default size of a panel/compent
setMaximumSize = set the maxium area of that panel/compent (that'll allow you to drag to )
setMinimumSzie = set the smallest window/pan/comp that you can drag to
i tried fr.setSize or whatever... nothing just work.....!!
Sorry... im really a beginner and i don't know where can I have a good read about all these Java.awt objects... JPanel/Frame/tabbedPanel/TextArea/button/watever.... sooo many and so easy to be confused....
sorry i about the poor english... hope someone can help me out....
    thanks!

For the JFrame or other top-level container we use the "setSize" method.
For JTextArea the api recommends we set the rows and columns to provide size information for the parent layout manager. For example - "new JTextArea(6, 18)"
Some layout managers, such as FlowLayout and GridBagLayout will use the preferredSize for sizing components so you can use the "setPreferredSize" method (in Swing and in j2se 1.5+ AWT).

  • Analog Signal to Digital a Primer

Many users have analog material sitting around, and they would like to get it into digital form, so that it can be edited. As this material is below SD (Standard Definition) quality, I will address the methods for digitizing it, so that it can be best edited in a DV Project. The output can be a DVD-Video, or other format, depending on what one wishes.
The process of getting this analog material into a digital form, is referred to as Capturing, and it is digitizing the analog material and writing it to a file, that can be edited.
One will need some method of getting the analog signals into digital form, and for connecting the analog output from their analog playback device to the computer. Though the analog signal could come from all sorts of devices, I’ll use a VHS tape deck in this example.
Since a VHS tape deck does not have an A-D (Analog to Digital) processor, and also does not have a a digital signal Out, one needs something in between it, and the computer. That “something” serves two needs: mechanical connection of cables and the ability to convert the analog to digital for use in an NLE (Non Linear Editor). That “something” can be a digital video camera with pass-through capabilities, a device, called a “bridge,” or a capture card inserted into a bus slot in the computer. All three have pluses and minuses.
The first two methods rely on one having a FireWire connection on the computer and will use the Capture module in the NLE software.
The digital video camera route is good, as one already owns it. Having one with pass-through capabilities is getting more difficult. The camera also has to have FireWire (FW, IEEE-1394a, or iLink) output, and the computer must have a matching connection.
An A-D bridge will do the same thing: allow one to connect the analog cables to one end/side, process the analog signals to digital and then output via FW to the computer. There are various such bridges available and two of the most often recommended makes/models are: the ADS-Pryo, and theCanopus/Grass Valley ADVC-110. Products, like the Dazzle lineup, just do not seem to work, or work well. I would avoid such.
A dedicated capture card performs the same task, with one exception. The card will mount into an empty PCI slot on the MoBo, and have inputs for the analog cables. The card will have chips on it, to digitize the analog signals and feed these to the computer via the PCI slot. These do not connect via FW, but have one drawback: they must, in virtually every instance, use additional software to do the actual Capture, as most NLE’s cannot directly see and work with them. Some of the included software Capture programs are better, than others. One common issue with many of these cards is a loss of sync, between the Audio and the Video. This is usually static OOS (Out Of Sync), in that it is usually off by a fixed number of frames, and does not drift over time. This can be fixed in the NLE, but is extra work. This ARTICLE will give you tips on correcting OOS.
Now, we are ready to begin the Capture, as our equipment and cables are all ready to go. We have a big decision in front of us - what format/CODEC do we use to Capture our digital files? Since we are doing an SD Project with non-HD (High Def) material, there is one fine choice: DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, using the DV/DVC CODEC. These files will be approximately 13GB / hour of Duration. Storage will need to be considered. These files are also I-frame, meaning that each “Frame” is rendered and available, so that frame-accurate editing is possible. The NLE will not need to do any processing, or conversion of these files, as even the Audio is ready for DVD-Video. Note: there will still be Conforming and the generation of PEK (Waveform Display) files, but the NLE will be able to do this quickly and efficiently.
Using AVI Uncompressed will get you nothing that you can see, other than larger files. Do NOT use any compressed format/CODEC, like MPEG-2, WMV, MOV, etc., as these will loose data from an already inferior source, and will then need conversion to be used, either with a stand-alone conversion program, or internally by the NLE. You loose quality and then have more work to be done. Do not let the temptation of smaller files lure you into using anything but DV-AVI Type II, and just accommodate the larger file sizes.
With the file format/CODEC decision made, the cables and devices hooked up, we’re ready to start the Capture. The exact operation will depend on what our equipment choice has been. See above for talk about additional Capture software, if one uses a capture card. Otherwise, we should be able to use the Capture module of our NLE. The first issue is that we will NOT have Device Control, as we would with a Capture from a miniDV tape-based digital camera, where we can control the mechanical aspects of the camera, during this process. As our VHS deck is hooked up to the A-D bridge, or digital camera w/ pass-through, via analog cables, our control signals cannot be sent to it. One would cue up the tape in the VHS deck, and then choose Record/Capture in the NLE’s Capture module, starting the Capture. Instantly, they would hit Play on the VHS deck, or via that deck’s remote control. This is easier the second time that one does it. I sit with the mouse in my right hand, poised over the Record/Capture button, and the VHS deck’s remote in my left hand, finger hovering over Play. It’s then a 1 - 2 push, and all starts. One can stop the Capture, if an unwanted section of tape comes up. The Capture module of the NLE will direct us on how to proceed from there, should more Captures be wanted. Some will just start up at a later point, and write an additional file for that portion of the tape, but some might require that one basically sets up a new Capture session One should investigate just what their NLE will require for doing multiple Capture sessions from one VHS tape.
When done, one closes the Capture module, and then navigates to the location that these DV-AVI Type II files have been stored in, and Imports them into the Project. This differs slightly from doing the Capture from a miniDV tape camera, as those Captured files are already in the Project.
Edit away, and Export/Share to the necessary output settings, file type and CODEC.
What about those VHS - DVD decks, the ones that will burn a DVD directly from the VHS tape? They seem so simple to use, and for the most part are. However, those DVD-Video discs, contain pretty heavily-compressed MPEG-2 AV streams. These MPEG-2's, besides being compressed, are in aGOP structure and are muxed (Multiplexed into one file with both a Video & Audio stream), plus there is often some Menus and navigation in the first VOB, the main container components of a DVD-Video. Many NLE’s can Import the VOB’s, and basically rip the MPEG-2 out of them, but that first VOB can be highly problematic, due to the way that most of those decks do the Menus and navigation. It is seldom 100% DVD-compliant by the DVD-specs. This can be a major problem. This ARTICLE will give you some background and tips on DVD VOB's.
Those dual-decks are good for doing one thing, regarding the DVD’s that they produce - provide one with an archival DVD-Video of the VHS tape, and not to be edited. However, the VHS side of these works well with an A-D bridge, just like a pure VHS deck does. I would strongly recommend that one does NOT use the DVD-Video portion of these, if editing will be desired. They cause many more problems, than they solve - just use them for an “archive” copy of the tape to a DVD-Video, for playback on a computer via DVD software or a set-top player, hooked to a TV.
What about film? Well, film is obviously analog, and one needs to digitize this to edit on the computer. The process of this digitizing is referred to as telecineing the film. While one can buy equipment to do this, it is expensive, and involves a lot of setup and testing to get the job done. There are many service bureaus, that offer telecining. Some are better than others. The main considerations are: care in handling of fragile film, how the telecining is done, i.e. frame by frame w/ a liquid gate, or just by straight projection, and then output format for the digitized files. Some of these services will offer a DVD-Video disc. Do not be tempted to do this. See above. Others will offer to write these digitized files to a miniDV tape, and this is just fine. One does then need a miniDV camera, or miniDV tape deck, to then do the Capture from, but the quality and editability will be preserved. The final delivery format would be to put these DV-AVI Type II files onto an external HDD. This saves one from having to do the Capture from miniDV tape, having to have a miniDV camera, or miniDV deck, and only Importing of those files would be required to get them into the Project. Many of these service bureaus will either sell you the external, or use one provided to them. Check out specifications for things like format of the external. FAT-32 will limit the file sizes to ~ 4GB max, and NTSF will have no such limitations. However, if the service bureau is on Mac, and you’re on the PC, their Mac’s can ONLY see FAT-32 HDD’s. Talk this over with the service bureau first, so that there are no surprises later on.
    Hope that this helps,

Although I now have a Canopus ADVC300 I previously used a Magix 'Movies on DVD' USB device. I found the results from this to be particularly good and, to my ageing eyes, I see very little quality difference.
I think this is because Magix use their proprietary high quality codec (from their Pro products) to capture the footage. Like DV-AVI it runs around 10GB+ per hour. This can then, very simply, be exported to DV-AVI Type 2 for use in PRE. Note that there are some sound synchronisation issues with the 'out of the box' settings - but the fix is quick and I posted details to the Magix forum.
Would I revert if I could return my ADVC300 bridge? Probably not - the firewire connection and the PC seeing the box as a camcorder adds to ease of use. In fact I am pleased to have both. There are some things Magix does better than PRE7 (batch exporting each scene as an individual DV-AVI file being just one) and it has smart-rendering which is handy for quick clip splitting/exporting.

  • Scb-68 and PCI-8331 what is converting my analog sgnal into digital%3F

Long ago, around 7 years ago, I worked on a project in which I interface photodetector to my computer through SCB-68 kit. The SCB-68 kit was connected to computer using PCI-8331 card.
Now, my input was analog signal from photodetector but at programming interface I was getting digital values for computation. Now my confusion about the conversion task done by which part of this connection?
SCB-68 was converting the input signal and supplying digital output? or PCI-8331 was doing digitization before delivering information to computer? or labview itself was doing it after getting signal from PCI-8331?
    can anyone please clear me?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The scb-68 is just a dumb terminal block. The pci-8331 is http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13179 and does not connect to photodetectors so your memory is flawed about the part number. An actual DAQ card would have done the conversion.

  • How do I set up HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt with TV Tuner to Digital cable set top box?

I just purchased the HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt CTO Desktop PC with TV Tuner ATSC-NTSC w PVR & remote. I want to connect it to my  HDTV cable set top box (Cox Cable) so I can record TV programs from digital cable and stream NetFlix  video to my 52 in Samsung 1080p HDTV. Where can I find instructions for how to configure this set up?

There is HDMI input with TV tuner
To expand on my post above, the TV tuner does NOT have HDMI input. If you read the User Guide that came with the TouchSmart (p.7, 8), the TV tuner's input is actually an F-type coaxial -- you either use an antenna for an ATSC signal (over-the-air) or NTSC *analog* cable (which is become more rare all the time). You set it up using Windows Media Center, page 18 through to top half of page 22 document how to connect a set top box using various analog (composite or s-video) cables. You can not use component and you can not use HDMI.

  • How can i change analog waves into digital waves?

we had labview lab last week.. were doing fine if we have instructions unfortunately the professor will give us an exercise regarding baseband signals spectra.. were trying to download a trial software but we dont have any luck. the question asks for us to change analog waves into digital waves, measure the amplitude of the 5-th harmonic using spectrum analyzer.. i hope you can help me thnx..

After you are successful getting LabVIEW on your computer, put together something to at least show us you're up for learning.  Then we can guide you to a solution that you've developed (mostly) on your own.

  • Swamped and confused about products

    Hi guys,
I am new to Oracle middleware products. After looking at a few articles, I am swamped and confused about those products, WebCenter (WC), Content Server (CS), Universal Content Management (UCM).
    1. WC has a built-in content database, part of Oracle database. CS also stores contents into Oracle database. Then what are differences between two types of content storage? Can I build WebCenter with Content Server as the content storage?
    2. WebCenter provides management functions on content. So does UCM. Users could contribute, review and release contents to web via both. Then what are differences between two types of content management? What more does UMC provide than the built-in content management in WC.
    3. Content Server needs a third-party web server (port:80) to publish its content. WebCenter Suite seems use Oracle HTTP Server (port:7777) to render web pages. Is it possible to integrate those two on one web server? Why is Oracle HTTP Server using a weird port?
    4. JDeveloper has the built-in OC4J container. But how can JDeveloper access or interact with Content Server or WC content database? Site Studio can access Content Server directly but only provides very limited portlet or ajax components. If I want to store web pages, static or dynamic, into WC and/or CS, which tool should I use?
Can anybody help me with them? Or please point me to the right direction. I really appreciate it.
    thanks,
    Chen

  • Confusion about Master data text

Hello all, I am little bit confused about the modelling concept in BI7. My confusion is about the Text table creation and its concepts.
I got a Flat File data in my PC .Here is the scenario:
Material Num, Material Name,  Material Description
                1111,       Desk ,               Dining table
Material Name and Material Description are the Attributes of Materaial Number here. When i created Infoobjects Material Number , Material Name (Attribute). I can see that system created a Text table with Short descripton and Language key selected. I understand that i have to load master data and text separately. My question is How did that "short text exists" box got changed?
In my case "Material Description" is showing Text data "dining table" correct? do i have to create this material description Infoobject as an attributes of Material Num, and later on load this as Text data to it?
Could anyone tell me how Text data /table come in to play in this example?  Under data/texts tab i see that "language dependent" and "short description" are checked. why "long text exist" and "med text" are not ticked? AFter clicking this T table i know its empty at this point, but is this table waiting for the data to be loaded from "Material Description" Field? if anyone could clarify this confusion i will really appreciat it..thanks
    DK

    Hi DK,
When you create a characteristic, by default 'With Master Data' & 'With Text' option would be checked.
We need to manually un-check this if the characteristic created by us is not master or doesn't have text.
Also, by default 'Short Text Exists' is checked. Short Text can hold description upto 20 chars,
Medium Text - 40 Chars & Long Text - 60 Chars. Depending on the length of the maximum possible length of description that could come from our source, we need to check the appropriate Texts.
And you need not create a separate InfoObject for 'MAterial Description'.
While loading the texts (using Text Transformation & DTP), you can map the Material Description to '0TXTSH' (InfoObject for Short Text).
    Hope this helps!

  • Analog data to digital data conversion in labwindows

    Hi
Is there any library function available in Labwindows for converting Analog data to Digital Data..
    Thank You

    shoukat,
could you please provide some more information about the background of this question? Is there any link to motion control (this is the Motion Control forum)?
I don't understand exactly, what you are looking for. All data that you use in a programming environment are digital data - regardless of the data type. Are you looking for a data conversion from floating point to binary (e. g. a boolean array) or are you looking for data acquisition hard- and software?

  • When converting analog video to digital to my macbook the audio desyncs halfway through. Any ideas?

I am trying to convert Analog video to digital to my Macbook for work, and every time I run it through my converter the audio De-syncs about halfway into the video. Does anyone know how to go about fixing this issue or have had similar issues to this? I have no issues when converting to my PC, but only my Mac. Thanks!

    Hi Rick,
I am extracting the material from the dvd directly using handbrake. The file that handbrake creates lands on the desktop. I then ammend the end of the filename from mp4 to m4v. Following this I click and drag the file onto the itunes icon in the dock. I can then download it to the ipod no problem. The dropouts occur no matter where I play the file. In other words, on the desktop (with QT), in the itunes library and on the pod.
I went back and looked at all the dvd's that are giving me this trouble. The culprit seems to be that the audio signal is in LPCM (linear pulse code modulation). Just for the **** of it, I tried to rip one track using handbrake changing the sampling rate of the audio to 48,000 Hz which I believe is what LPCM uses (previously I had set it at 41,000 Hz in handbrake). But no go, still has dropouts. One of these problem dvd's has a second audio option in AC3 (2ch). As a test, I ripped one song using that. Dropouts are gone. However, the audio is a director's commentary (on the music video he shot) with the music in the background, so it's not what I want.
Is there any way to convert LPCM to AC3? Or any other way to fix this dropout problem.
    Thanks,
    Pete

  • Udev: confusion about identifier ATTRS{idProduct}

    Hi,
i'm confused about how exactly udev identifies a device, imho the idProduct identifier is (in this specific case) inconsistent.
    Short story:
'lsusb' and 'udeadm info' indentify the devices idProduct as "1002", but to get udev rules working i have to use ATTRS{idProduct}=="1001" though.
    Long story:
I have this usb-to-midi device (midisport 2x2), which needs to load firmware to work (midisport-firmware). This is the udev rule to load the firmware:
    #/etc/udev/rules.d/42-midisport-firmware.rules
    # MidiSport 2x2
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0763", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1001", RUN+="/sbin/fxload -s /usr/share/usb/maudio/MidiSportLoader.ihx -I /usr/share/usb/maudio/MidiSport2x2.ihx -D %N"
    This rule ("idProduct=1001") works!
Changing "idProduct" to "1002" does not work.
    However, here's the output of
    ~# lsusb
    Bus 003 Device 007: ID 0763:1002 Midiman MidiSport 2x2
    and
    ~# udevadm info -a -p /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb3/3-2/

which both indicate, the correct idProduct would be "1002"!?
The midisport box is the only device where this inconsistence appears, all other usb-devices (hdds, sticks, sound card, dvb-t stick, mp3 player) get identified as expected.
I want to know, if anybody can explain this/ if anybody has had similar experiences!

Looking at the udevadm info output, it shows ATTR{idproduct}=="1002" and ATTRS{idproduct}=="0001" and your rule uses ATTRS{idproduct}=="1001".
Have you tried with just ATTR{idproduct}=="1002" (note no S)? Looking at the output of info, I would still not expect ATTRS{idproduct}=="1001" to work, but udev's changed a fair bit in the last few years and the old bible for rules is way out of date.

  • Confused About Catch Up

Hi everyone, So I have  just had Sky installed and I am a little confused about some aspects of it and I hope someone can give me some advice. The catch up service: Is it normal for there to be very little actual content in the catch up section? When I was looking at the various options on offer, one of the things that I really liked the look of was the '30 day catch up service'.
I (possibly incorrectly) assumed this would mean I could access the vast majority (if not all) of the programmes shown on Sky for the last 30 days. When I look in the catch up section, there is very little choice there. For example - in the sky channels section, sorted by day - for last Saturday there are only four shows. Is this a fault or is catch up a whole lot less than it promises to be? I have the family package by the way and I realise that I can only access channels and catch up that I am subscribed to but it seems very poor to me that the 'catch up' service amounts to just a handful of shows, most of which I am not interested in. Strangely, when I manually search in the search box for a specific show, I get on-demand results that I cannot find anywhere else in the EPG. Is there more on demand content there but only if you know exactly what you want to search for and use the search box? It seems odd to me that I have to know what I want to watch and search for it manually, I cannot just browse a list of available shows. Pushed on demand: So the way I understand it is this, my 500GB hard drive has 250GB partitioned off for the sky box to download content to overnight. Where do I access this content?I can't find any of it.I have read the manual and it says I will see a little play icon on content that is available to watch which, I assume, refers to content automatically downloaded by the box. I have seen this icon on one show. That's it. Is 250GB of space being used for nothing? Can I get that space to use for my own downloads and recordings?I know there is a setting to turn off 'pushed on demand' but does this free up the space reserved? Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere or if I am asking stupid questions and thanks in advance for any replies. Broddr.

    Thanks for the reply Annie.
I did as you suggested and still get no more.
Pressing the green button and selecting channels just splits the five shows up into their specific channel.
    I have five shows total.
I select Nat Geo channel and it shows the three of those five shows that are on Nat Geo.
I select Nat Geo Wild and it shows the remaining two of those five shows that are on the Wild channel.
I have been through all the system settings and every page on the box OS again and again and I am coming to the conclusion that I do not have a problem as such, rather the service is simply pants!
Apparently my 'catch up' service for Nat Geo for the last four days consists of one programme!
I suppose for an 'extra' service I can't really complain, but the touted '30 day catch up service' was one of the main reasons I signed up.
I would argue they should not really call it 'catch up'.
'Selected highlights' is probably more accurate.
"Catch up on the best of sky over the last thirty days - as long as, for example, what you want to catch up on SyFy is Dark Matter and Defiance 'cos that's all there is."

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.
