Confused about how much content I can add

Hey Everyone,
I have been doing projects that are about 30 minutes. Now, I have a project that is almost 4 hours. How do I put it onto a DVD? Looking at the book and it is very complicating.
thanks,
Mark

You need to compress your footage so that it fits in the space available on your disc. There are several different capacities of disc that you could use, including single and double sided, and single or dual layer. It is most likely that you'll be using single sided discs, but could be either single or dual layer. If single, you have got 4.37Gb of space.
From what you say you have also got some options regarding compressing the footage. The usual method would be to convert to MPEG2 using Compressor (or any other MPEG encoder), setting the target bitrate such that the resulting file will be smaller than 4.37Gb. This means the bitrate will need to be low, and as a result the visual quality will suffer. As a guide, if you put all four hours as MPEG2 onto a single sided, single layered DVD, and you use AC3 audio at 192kbps, you will have to encode the footage at 2.2Mbps for it all to fit. This is somewhat low.
If you use a dual layer disc, you can raise that to a more respectable 4.3Mbps.
However, you can also try using MPEG1 footage on a DVD - the quality will be quite similar to VHS, but because the bitrate of MPEG1 is so low (just 1.5Mbps) you will easily fit it all on to a single sided, single layer disc.
The final option is to use 'Half D1' footage, which has a visual quality similar (but IMO better) to MPEG1. Not all encoders can create Half D1, but BitVice can.
So - make a choice about which disc type you will use, then encode the footage to fit into the space available. Use a bitrate calculator to work it out if you need to (google for bitrate calculator), but be aware that low bitrates, MPEG1 and Half D1 will give you lower quality results than MPEG2 at a reasonable bitrate with your footage spread over multiple discs.

  • Confused about how to display a rectangle on JFrame

    i'm a little confused about how to display a rectangle on a jframe.
    I know there is a class called Rectangle. is there a way to use it to display a rectangle on a JFrame? i couldn't find a way to do that.
    i found a way to display a rectangle in the internet:
    CODE:
    public class RectangleFrame extends JFrame {
        public RectangleFrame() {
            super("My Rectangle");
            setSize(300,400);
            setLocation(300,300);
            setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            JButton button = new JButton("Button");
            JPanel panel = new JPanel();
            panel.add(button);
            getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
            getContentPane().add(new Rect(), BorderLayout.CENTER);
            getContentPane().add(panel, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
            setVisible(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new RectangleFrame();
    public class Rect extends JComponent {
        public void paint(Graphics g) {
            g.drawRect(50,50,200,200);
    }is this the only way to do that? isn't there an easier way? do i have to write this new class Rect i wrote?
    i don't really know how this Rect class i wrote works. could someone explain?
    then another question: can i put a rectangle on a JPanel or do i have to add it directly onto the ContentPane as i did above?
    i hope everything i asked is clear enough.
    thanks for your effort.

  • Is there a limit to how much text I can put in the scrolling sidebar widget in iBooks author?

    Is there a limit to how much text I can put in the scrolling sidebar widget in iBooks author? I have recently tried putting about 3,500 words into a scrolling sidebar widget, and I can't seem to get all of the text into the widget. Thoughts? ideas?

    There are button limits in the DVD spec (not just Encore).
    DVD, 4:3 menu = 36 buttons
    DVD, 16:9 menu = 18 buttons

  • Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?

    Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?
    How much the upgrade process depends of database size, in this case?
    I have fast boxes  IBM AIX 5.3 , 64 b.

    Appreciate your comments ...
    Yes, sound stupid, regarding test environment, but in reality, is not that much:
    -I do have "preprod" environment, (2 instances RAC) same releases of OS, OCW,RAC ... but DB size is 40 GB!!!  It has all the objects as production, but (again but) it does not have physical standby, as production has. This is not that unusual, knowing that production DB grows very fast, and very large, and business do not want to keep preprod, dev, test databases same HUGE size as production is. Savings ...
    -My DB upgrade depends if application  running on top of it is certified for higher RDBMS release ... looks like they have some problems.
    -Very encouraging sounds comment that DB upgrade does not depend that much of the DB size ...
    - i do not recall from where this info came, but I have heard that R 11.* treats PDF files in different way that R10 did it ... and because of that, process of upgrading big databases which have many items of that type (pdf) can take very long. Any idea about this?
    -Brian, thx ... I'm trying hard to provide DB simmilar size in UPG environment and face all possible pitfalls before I go in production...thx for youe advice. I'm relly interested in how upgrade to 11.* from 10.* traets my pdf-s ... All my TBs comming from pdfs. Everi advice will be wellcome ...

  • About how much to replace iMac Intel 20-inch motherboard?

    Hello. Can anyone (in the UK) tell me about how much it would cost to replace the motherboard on a 20-inch Intel iMac? Mine is slowly dying (details below), in particular with graphics problems. Thanks.
    More or less from the outset, my 20-inch iMac had an intermittent fault where occasionally it would start or wake up with major graphics problems (see http://tinyurl.com/iMacFault1). As I'd bought it from an Apple retail store, the only thing they would accept is for me to bring it back to the store (difficult, in my case) and have them examine it. I've been there before: I'd go to the trouble of bringing it back, they'd test it, it wouldn't fail, they'd say there was nothing wrong etc. They weren't interested in the photographs of the fault. So, I let it go.
    Of late, it's more often suffered from a slight shimmering with video (which you can often clear by powering down and up) and/or rows of corrupted pixels in windows (see http://tinyurl.com/iMacFault2). Very recently, it's started to freeze completely.

    The cost is prohibitive to the point you would be better off getting a new machine and selling the old one on eBay for parts. I don't recall the exact amount, but a new logic board for my 17" iMac was somewhere in the $650 range (~409 £). Apple should be able to quote you a price for the replacement to give you an exact idea.
    If it is still under warranty and freezing consistently, go back to the store. iMacs aren't cheap to replace so you may try insisting they take a harder look at it. Best of luck!

  • How much Image Data can the Scenegraph hold?  handling big pictures?

    I have some jpg pictures that are taken with a standard compact camera.
    Pictures are around 2MB in size. I would like to load them full size so I can Zoom into them later.
    I can load about 4 of this pictures (total 8MB data), but not 5 of them.
    Where is the limitation?
    How much Image Data can the Scenegraph hold?
    any tweeks or workaround for big pictures?

    You mean this:
    The default maximum heap size is half of the physical memory up to a physical memory size of 192 megabytes and otherwise one fourth of the physical memory up to a physical memory size of 1 gigabyte.
    For example, if your machine has 128 megabytes of physical memory, then the maximum heap size is 64 megabytes, and greater than or equal to 1 gigabyte of physical memory results in a maximum heap size of 256 megabytes.So Java doesn't want to use a lot of ram by default. My 3 Year PC has allready 4 GB Ram. But well there are laptops with 1 or 2 gb RAM. Even my 5 year old video-pc, only there to watch some movies, has 1.2GB RAM. So Whatever, maybe Oracle will change this in Java7 or 8. As well also Anyway, i can do make the a little bit more effiecient, but if someone want to load a jpg captuared with a 12MegaPixel Camera, you just need some Ram.

  • How much cold temperature can an iphone 5 endure?

    I am just curious how much cold temperature can an iphone 5 endure? here in my town, 4'c is normal in daytime and 0'c at night and dampness present in my room all the time which cause my cell phone display black and unresponsive.

    Cold will make a lithium ion battery drain more quickly than normal and can cause the phone to shut down. However, I doubt it's zero degrees in your room at night. If it is, you have bigger issues to worry about than your phone. Unless your phone is a tropical rainforest or has a constantly running hot shower or is a sauna, it seems unlikely that it could be damp enough to cause an issue. You may have a larger hardware issue. Consider getting the phone checked out by Apple.
    I'm not sure I'd want to live in a town that only got 4 degrees warmer in the day than at night in the winter. Brrrrr.......

  • How much storage units can be added in the single bin.

    Hi all,
    Can anybody tell me how much storage units can be added in the single bin.
    Dev

    Hi Dev,
    AS Prashant & Abhijit mentioned above the maximum storage units in a single bin is based on various factors such the putaway strategy & capacity check you have set for your storage type as well as palletization data.
    Now in case of Bulk Storage which you have mentioned above, please go through the below F1 help for the block structure.
    In bulk storage, you need to define for each block (or row) how many
    storage units fit into the block.  For this purpose, you must define
    both the number of columns as well as the maximum stack height.  *The*
    product of these factors usually gives the maximum number of storage
    +units and is determined automatically by the system.  However, it is+
    possible to change the maximum number of storage units to a lower number
    if the storage bin or the material features require this.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks & Regards,

    How much big file can be executed or compiled by JVM/JRE?

    The language, compiler, or JVM specs will probably say.
    However, if you need to ask this question, then your classes are far too big.
