Confused about update iMovie 9.0.1 for iMovie '11

A few days ago I upgraded from iMovie '09 to iMovie '11 (iLife '11 package).
After the installation there were some software updates which I also installed.
Now (today) I'm offered another software update to download:
iMovie 9.0.1 28.5 MB
I thought iMovie '09 was replaced with iMovie '11 on my hard drive?
Why shall I now install an update for '09??
Shall I...?

I am trying to decide which iMovie to use on what computer. I will be doing movies that are probably a step above home movie. I want to do a movie about my grandfather and one for my reunion. Do I need a new computer? Mine are 4 years old. Which version would be the easiest with the least bugs? I have used Final Cut several years ago so I do have some expertise. I want ease of use with enough but not too many features. Would appreciate anyone's advice. Thanks so much.

Just bought a Nikon d750 and confused about adobe LR4 and PS6 support for the RAW files. I have DNG 8.7 but wondering if LR and PS will import direct soon Thanks for any advice

Support for the Nikon D750 was introduced in the latest version of LR 5.7 and ACR 8.7 on Novemder 18th 2014.
Further updates to LR 4 were stopped when LR 5 was released on June 9th 2013. No further updates for bug fixes and new camera support.
Nada, LR 4 will never support Nikon D750. The Nikon D750 was introduced into the market in September 2014 some 15 months after further development of LR 4 was discontinued.
You can use the Adobe DNG program (free download for the package) to convert the Nef (raw) files from your Nikon D750 to the Adobe DNG format which will permit you to import those into LR 4. This is the crutch provided by Adobe to allow for the processing of raw files with outdated versions of LR and ACR.
You can also update the ACR plugin for PS CS6 to version 8.7 which can also work with the raw files from the D750. For direct support in Lightroom you will need to upgrade (paid) to version 5.7.

  • Confused about update method in JComponents

    Hello,
I'm a bit confused about the update method in JComponents. What I remember from applets was that the update method was called whenever something changed such as a window being dragged across it or something.
I've written a class that extends a JPanel and overwrites the paint method. Any components I add to it aren't drawn. I can add JComponent.update() methods to my paint() method but this is very inefficient as I'm having repaint() called by a thread 15 times a second. I tried to put the update methods in the JPanels update() but that doesn't work, in fact update isn't called at all. What does update do ?

Let me take another crack at it...
    1) Grab the 9.2.0.8 patchset for the Oracle database (i.e. patch 4547809 on Metalink assuming you're using 32-bit Windows). Install this to upgrade your Oracle client to 9.2.0.8. Installation instructions are in the README.
    2) Grab the 9.2.0.8 Oracle ODBC driver, which you already appear to have, and follow the installation instructions in the README you're looking at.

  • Confused about color vs. b/w photos for printing...and more

I reading confusing things about exporting a PDF for printing with both color and black and white images used in the same document.
If I export to PDF and do a soft-proof and it looks okay, is that sufficient? If so, what's confusing about that, since this is my first print project, which Simulation Profile do I use? Is there a chart somewhere that compares U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 to let's say 80 lb Gloss book with Aqueous coating (C2S)?
I don't know what any of this means. So, is there a good article on this site, elsewhere, or an online printer who can help a rookie like me ensure I end up with a decent product?
UPrinting.com advertises a "Free Project Review" that includes the following:
Our team will run your file through a 30-point inspection, covering technical issues including:
    Artwork dimensions
    Bleed setup
    Low resolution images
Elements that are not within the safe zone
    Image clipping
    Font sizes
    Un-embedded fonts
    Folding setup
    Page scaling
    Line weights
    Proper text spacing (compressed/expanded)
Narrow borders that are at risk of being cut
    Compliance with USPS Mailing Guidelines
    Bindery setup for multi-page artwork
What should I do? Is this trustworthy as long as I get a contract proof? Is there a "Go To" online printer that everyone loves (not sure you can recommend that here) or should I seek out a local printer?
I'm using CS4 and have a file that's (maybe) ready to go but am looking at a learning curve of days if not weeks if I have to figure it all out myself.
    Thanks everyone.
    Paul

InDesign puts grayscale and B&W (bitmap mode) art on the Black plate, where it belongs, so if you soft proof using the CMYK profile for your expected output conditions your preview will be accurate for the grayscale and B&W images as they will appear in print. presuming your monitor is calibrated and profiled so that you can trust what you see.
Aqueous coating is applied AFTER the printing to protect, and possible enhance the glossiness of, the page (but not all coatings are glossy). This is not the same thing as printing on coated paper, which has a glossy surface and high ink holdout (and improves detail reproduction and usually will geive better color). You should be using whatever profile the printer has specified.

  • Confused about updating dri

I'd like to update, or at least search for an update to my soundcard, but I'm just not real sure what it is. running a directx diagnostic tool on my computer, it says its a SB Audigy Audio [B400]
I don't see that listed anywhere. Any feedback and help is much appreciated, and I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, or is in the wrong area of the forums. This is my first post to these message boards.
    thanks

Hmmm.... Glad you had the older drivers that work to fall back on. I did notice that I had to remove the sound drivers thru the Device manager then manually clean up all the leftover files and folders that the "Add/Remove Programs" did not clear off my machine before installing the updated files manually.
?In my manual installation of the "drivers only" ( because I didn't need all the other media stuff ) for the audigy se SB0570 card there was a check box in the lower left corner of the install window that if checcked it will overwrite all the creative files. If you have that, then I would check it to overwrite so that there is not a mixture of old and new files for the update. There may be some leftovers in the registry, but I rather not play with registry files unless?I really really have to. If you have no problems with the older drivers, I would personally stick with themunless you would wnat to try a real clean install as? suggested above. In any case, make a new CD with the original drivers and the missing file so that you will have everything in one place when you need to reinstall again. That's about all I can suggest for now.... bcnu ?P.S. • Confused about updates..which ones which to not download?

    I don't use remote desktop - never -
so do I need the updates?
I don't own ilife so I don't need the updates right?
I don't use the blue tooth device so I don't need that right?

    Hi mamasings,
iLife '09 would have come installed on your new MacBook when you purchased it. I'd recommend installing the iLife Media Browser update if you have that available, especially if you use iTunes. One of the Mac's biggest strengths is the interoperability of applications. As a result, some software updates will necessitate other updates. iTunes, QuickTime and Safari for example will often need to be updated in conjunction with other updates or they may not operate properly.

  • Confused about how imovie converted clips on import

So, I brought a bunch of movies into iMovie, which were saved as h.264 (bit rate 5000), in a 1280 X 720 size, with the .m4v file extension. Dragged them into iMovie events. Then, after all the clips were brought in, I looked at the files in the events folders, and some of them had been converted to: AIC codec with a bit rate of 36,336. The most confusing aspect of this is that only some of the clips were converted, while others remain in their original format, even though they were all brought in together. There's a tremendous difference in file size. The question then is: why were some clips converted and other clips not converted?

    Hi
A Wild Suggestion - By not using iMovie'08 to 11
You want a DVD and as good as possibly I guess then iM'08 to 11 are not tools of choice as Your miniDV tapes are interlaced SD-Video and non of them can in any way I know of Export over to iDVD this but only every second line = Less quality
If You use - iMovie HD6 - then (Not Share to iDVD - but)
    • close iMovie when done and import the Movie Project (icon with a blac Star on it) into iDVD. Now iDVD will render and does this So Much Better
    • AND - You import Your miniDV tapes in sequence - same as it/they was recorded.

  • Confused about updating?

    Hi,
Okay I have iweb prior to 08 and so I had the iweb.app and then I made a copy of the iweb.app just in case. Then I updated with iWeb 08 and when I opened my iweb.app file is says this has been updated then there were three options: Choose New File Domain, Open Existing Domain, or Cancel. So I said new and of course none of my old stuff is there.
So no worries I have the iwebcopy.app so I know I want open existing (or whatever it says, can't remember exact wording) and when I do I have no idea where to put it to open my old one. I wanted to put it in iwebcopy.app but of course it is faded out so where does this go exactly?
It's not a huge deal because I only had partially done my website prior to this and already want a new template after seeing the new ones added. Also I have a copy of it all on the website if for some reason it's gone.
    S.

    Niel,
You are brilliant. Thank you for your help. I went where you said and just figured I'd click the domain.site file and when I clicked it another temporary domain.site2 popped up in it's place. Then it loaded and I got a box that said your domain file needs to be updated and I clicked okay and it's all there now.
I just didn't know the steps to update the file.
    S.

  • A bit confused about updating

    Hi All,
Last night I loaded about 550 songs onto my 4gb nano. Today I thought it best to go through the library and uncheck lots of songs that I don't want on the nano...but when I try to update it says there is not enough free space. And when I look into the actual ipod song list it is grayed out and I am unable to deselect songs there. I have the songs encoded ACC at 192 bit rate so at least 700 songs should fit??? So how do I update the ipod and get rid of the songs I don't want...I thought what it would do it do the update and when doing so it would delete the songs I had unchecked....and yes, I checked the box in the preferences that says to update only checked songs.
    Tammy

It will not automatically delete the songs
you should turn on Manually manage songs in iTunes Preferences
and then select the ipod icon and remove all the songs using iTunes
    and then restart from there

  • Confused about update to Iphone4

Before I start let me just say that I had two Iphone 3G on a family plan and we both (me and my wife) are eligible for upgrades.
So to buy the Iphone4, I sold both my 3G recently, and I am using old nokia phones right now till I get my Iphone4. But now when I go to att website to read more about upgrades, it says "current Iphone users" are eligible for discounted price ... So my question is, Am I still eligible for iphone4 upgrade as I sold my old iphone 3g?
    Thanks
    Mayur

    Thanks Guys for the info.
I just changed my phones yesterday and when i go to the att website it has the nokia phones listed or shown next to my phone numbers. I didnt report it though. I guess att has a way to know which phone u r using.
Also i didnt change my plan yet and not planning to change it anyways ..
    So am i still eligible?

  • Confused about conversation grouping Lion vs. Snow Leopard

    Hello All,
I just upgraded. Literally just finished. I was checking out mail, and I am confused about how Mail 5 groups messages for conversations. In SL I had Mail group related messages as well, and it's a feature I really enjoy. Conversations just makes it that much better. But, I notice that Lion groups message differently than both SL and iOS. Now, it is no longer grouping emails that are all from various people but are part of the same thread. It is grouping multiple messages from the same sender, even if they have nothing to do with each other, or are only loosely connected.
It used to be (and still is on my iPhone) for example, that all the emails eminating from a single thread topic on one of my class forums would all group together. They have the same subject line and formatting. It was heaven. Will there be no way of doing this?
Also, now all the emails from the teacher of that class, regardless of the relevancy or subject line, group together in one conversation. It's annoying in a way, but I think I can get used to that. Does anyone know if these will be able to be changed in the future?
    Thanks

As a Mac power user - LION IS A DISAPPOINTMENT
Apple needs to seriously consider briniging back
      • SPACES: the capability to move up as well as down to access applications
AND have applications stay in a desgnated space makes it much easier
to run multiple applicatioins - especially in a multi-monitor environment
      • SAVE AS: Saving various versions of a file is difficult with Lion.
If I want a 3 versions of a document - with different pictures, it takes too many "clicks" to accomplish
this task.  LET ME CHOOSE HOW I STORE FILES
      • COPY COMMAND: Snow Leaopard allowed me to copy files to a storage device AND if the file
was already written to the device - the option to NOT REPLACE the file existed.  This made it
easy to backup work on a portable drive.
LION ONLY has two options - copy all or make an addition copy of the file, causing storage bloat
APPLE NEEDS TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER PUTTING THESE FEATURES BACK INTO THEIR OS FOR THE BUSINESS AND POWER USER

  • I'm horribly confused about student licensing and commercial use

As the title says I'm horribly confused about student licensing and using it for commercial use.
I currently have a Student Licensing version of Adobe Creative Suite 4 that I purchased through my school's journeyEd portal.
Seeing how CS5 is now out I was browsing looking at prices (why not upgrade while I'm still a student, right?) and while browsing I bumped into one source that says that Student Licensing can not be used for commercial purposes, and this is when the confusion started. I remember reading before that we are able to use student licensing for commercial purposes, okay time to google search. I found one Adobe FAQ that says I can. .
    http://www.adobe.com/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
" Can I use my Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software for commercial use?
Yes. You may purchase a Student and Teacher Edition for personal as well as commercial use. "
    and I found this old thread;
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/314304
Where an poster listed as an employee of Adobe states
"There is no upgrade from the CS3 Educational Edition to the comparable CS3 editions sold in non-academic environments. If you have an educational version of for CS3 obtained legitimately (i.e., you qualified for the educational version when you obtained it), you may continue to use that software for the indefinite future, even for commercial use! You cannot sell or otherwise transfer that license, though! When the next version of the Creative Suite is released, you will have two choices: (1) If you still qualify for the educational version, you can buy a copy of that next version (there is no special upgrade pricing from one educational version to another; the price is already very low) or (2) you can upgrade from the educational version of CS3 to the full version of the next version of the Creative Suite as an upgrade from CS3 at the prices published at that time. "
Okay cool, hmm what this? Adobe is asking me if I want to IM with live costumer service agent, sure why not? Then the conversation started and I asked her my question about using my CS4 license for commercial use, she asks for my product code and email to verify my product, then informs me I can purchase the upgrade version of CS5 and use that for commercial, okay great, but not really answering my question. I reword it and give her a link to that FAQ page it goes like this. ..
"[CS Rep] : [My name], I would like to inform you that Adobe Student and Teacher Editions are not allowed for
    commercial use.
[CS Rep] : However, you can upgrade your current software to a normal upgrade version, and you can continue
    using it for commercial purpose.
[Me] : Then is the FAQ page mistaken? Because it is very misleading if it is. But thank you for the information.
[CS Rep] : You are welcome.
[CS Rep] : I apologize for the misleading information in the FAQ."
. .And after that, I went back to being confused.
SO my questions are. . . Can I or can't I use my Adobe Creative Suite 4 student licensing for commercial purposes? and If I purchase a Student Licensing of CS5 can I use that for commercial purposes as well?
Sorry for the long post, I just want to be perfectly clear on what I can and can not do with my purchase.

The rules differ in various parts of the world. In North America you can use it for commercial work.
There are no student/academic upgrades. The pricing is so low that in many cases you're better off buying another full student license but you are eligible for upgrade pricing for commercial versions once you're out of school.
You may not transfer the student license in any way.

  • Printable iTunes & still confused about cd artwork

    Hiya,
Is there a way to have iTunes print out all of the info for the cds I have in it? Mainly artist and album title. It'd save filing them into something like Excel for my records.
Also, I'm still confused about the artwork iTunes plugs in for my cds. Either it doesn't have the artwork or its wrong. I know I can delete it, but replacing it is what I can't figure out. I was told to drag and drop it into the artwork viewer, but drag and drop it from where? The iTunes music store? My own file (which I tried and it doesn't work)? I tried opening two windows of iTunes to try the drag/drop, but that doesn't work either.
One last thing, I don't like the new back-up feature of burning cds of my catalog, instead I copy the entire thing onto an external hard drive. Is there an easier way to do this? I know I have to save all of the iTunes info so that my playlists still show up, but when all I mainly need to do is save any new music & playlists I find it takes so long because I have to end up re-saving everything (and at over 11k songs, that takes a while). Any suggestions to help speed up the process?
    Always grateful,
    Tony Adams

The iTunes method isn't obsolete for everybody, but it's something you don't need to worry about unless you were already using it or you want to exchange data belonging to apps that do not (yet) support iCloud.
Being able to flag one of your own responses as helpful or as a solution may seem strange, but it has a possible useful application. If you found a clue or an answer in another venue and returned here to report it, you could flag your report as helpful or a solution to give credit to the other venue or the person who entered it there. You aren't supposed to be able to give yourself points, though.

  • Updated iMovie at 3pm this afternoon. It's now 9pm and iMovie is still "Preparing media for share" (6 hrs).

Earlier today I installed Maverick. This afternoon I updated iMovie. For 6 hours it has been "Preparing media for share" and I cannot use the program. Any idea what's up?

Okay, I think I've got it solved.  The stuck iMovie app may have been caused by a disk error or a corruption in the downloaded app, so here is how to troubleshoot it.
    1. Run Apple Disk Utilities to repair any errors on your hard drive.  Restart and hold the Command and R keys down, this will start the computer from the restore partition and you can run apple disk utilities.  Select your hard drive and run both the "Repair" and "repair permissions"  This will clear up any disk errors that might be locking the program.
    2. Restart. Now the drive is fine but in my case the iMovie program still locked up "preparing media for share"
So we need to rebuild the iMovie 10 app.  Notice when you go into your Applications folder, the iMove 9 is also there and should work fine as it always did before.  We will just rebuild iMovie 10.
        a. From applications, Drag the iMovie.app  to the trash.
        b. from the Movies folder, drag the iMovie Library.imovielibrary   file to the trash. This is the library iMovie  10 is building as it updates clips and projects.
       c. From the movies/iMovie Events  folder remove the "UpdatedToiMovie10" file.
       d. From the movies/iMovie Projects  folder remove the "UpdatedToiMovie10" file. (I added the word "projects" to the file name so I could retrieve it later and not be confused with the same named file from  events)
       e. for good measure, right click on theiMovie alias in the dock and select remove from dock. This links to the deleted iMovie.app
We are ready to rebuild IMovie. For good measure I restart at this point to make sure the Finder knows i removed those files.
    3.  Select software update in the apple menu.  It will run and tell you that there is an update to iMovie available.  Click update and it will download and put it in the applications folder.
    4. Run iMovie.app.   This time "Preparing media for share" will come up for only a few seconds and your app is responsive. Notice it shows no projects.
In the file menu, select "Update projetcs and events"
This will rebuild the library file and UpdatedToiMovie10" files.
It will take some time as you watch each project go through the update routine.
Now you should have a functioning iMovie 10 app with your iMovie 9 projects available.
I did experience a number of audio files that show up in iMovie 10 in red, meaning they did not convert properly. However, locating the audio file on the hard drive and dragging it into the iMovie project worked fine and I deleted the non-working red audio file.
I did experience a few clips that also did not make it from iMovie 9 and iDvd projects.
The good things is that you now have two side-byside iMovie apps and you can always go back and launch iMovie 9 and work on projects that did not make the cut.
This was a major rewrite of iMovie and updates are planned that may make this go smoother than it did for some of us early adopters.

  • Live Update confused about versions installed?

I have a MSI Neo4 Platinum and first I installed the Marvell LAN Drivers via Live Update (Version 7.14.1.3). This driver did however seem to be very unstable (the network connection dropped after a few minutes of use), so I went to Windows Update and picked the Marvell Driver there. It shows up under the Driver Tab as version 7.29.4.3". This driver seems very stable and my dropped connection problem is gone. I had this problem on two different installations of this board.
When I now run Live Driver, it incorrectly reports that my current version is 7.14.1.3 (not 7.29.4.3). It is obviously confused about shich version I'm running.
    Anyone else seen this problem?

    olavt,
Do not bother with Live Update. If you want to update anything, do it manually. Also for Mobo Drivers, usenVidia nForce Drivers
