Confused about what I should do about my PC's declining performance.

I'm very confused on what I should about my PC's declining performance. My desktop computer is a HP Pavilion 20 All-in-one. The original OS was WIN 8, current OS WIN 8.1. I received my computer 11/8/13 and upgraded to WIN 8.1 just a few weeks later due to annoyance of it's pop-ups. The first installation of it failed but the very next day it installed on it's own and was successful. Not to long after that I began to have problems with performance. Lagging, freezes, blank or black screens, poor graphics and choppy audio and app crashes (which were solved under my HP warranty). A few months after the 8.1 upgrade I received a message in HP Support Assistant stating that my computer model was never tested with 8.1 and that could be the cause of my performance issues. The message also came with a compatibility scan which was of no use since 8.1 was already installed, and was recommended to either wait for drivers to become available or uninstall.  I got tired of waiting so Dec. 2014 I did a refresh back to 8 and didn't reinstall the 8.1. I got back my computers excellent performance. Unfortunately that was short lived due to 8.1 automatically reinstalled it's self without an option to decline it, just a warning that in 2 days it'll restart my computer to finish the installation. That happened last week and now my computer is back to poor performance again. The audio is choppy (esp. when playing games), and after a few hours of use a humming sound starts, at first it's choppy (on & off), then it becomes constant. Also sluggish loading and lagging esp. of the mouse curser which happens on and off. I checked the task manager one day while that was happening and the Disk and CPU were turning red and going up to 100% and the Memory also spikes high but not up to 100 (in between spikes MEM stays around 30% maybe that's due to recent install of The Sims 4.  Today I had a critical event happen with the Kernal Power and my computer restarted it's self. Those are the issues that I need help fixing but I also have questions that I hope can be answered here or get pointed in the right direction to an answer. 1) How or where can I get a straight forward answer to the compatibility of my computer with 8.1. When I had HP tech support I asked about the message I received from them and I was told to disregard the message because they are compatible. But after I refreshed back to WIN 8 the message came back and there was a note at the bottom of the page stating that the message could be old and possibly there are drivers available now. So I'm perplexed, if the two are compatible then why am I having the same problems that the message has listed as signs of incompatibility? 2) When I use HP Support Assistant to check for updates no downloads are available but when I use HP's website page software and driver downloads by product. It shows 10 downloads available for driver audio, driver chipset, driver grapics, driver network, BIOS, diagnostic, and software multi-media.  Should I download all of them or do I need to check them out one by one to identify if they're old or new. 3)  When my computer is idle why are background tasks performing scans that show on my action center icon but the stop as soon as the cursor is moved? and how can I identify which background processes & services can be ended or suspended to improve performance while playing high resource using games like The Sims 4? Here is some more info about my PC and thank you for taking out the time to help me.

I would suggest that you update your Windows 8 drivers to the Windows 8.1 version drivers.
I had a look and the Windows 8.1 drivers are all newer versions.
Start with the Chipset, then Video, then the others, but not BIOS [yet].
Reboot after each install.
If performance doesn't seem better after updating your drivers to the Windows 8.1 versions then I suggest you also perform the BIOS update that is also available.

    The  wording is confusing. I just tried one of the DLs and it is working. Whether it will actually install now, I have no idea. If the activation servers have been disabled (because of a technical issue), probably not. Whether this is only temporary, I have no idea. I would think Adobe would just withdraw the entire page if they wanted. From the time this first appeared a few weeks ago until now I know it was working and could be installed using the provided serial #s. There was nothing about needing to actually have purchased it originally.
    Ginger:
    I downloaded CS2 from the Adobe site BEFORE this recent notice was posted and it is the only version that I have and use.
    The new notice is VERY confusing, because if you were a prior purchaser of it originally, why would you need their newly supplied serial number (which is what I use since I was NOT a prior purchaser. But again, when I downloaded and installed CS2 there was no such notice).
    I suggest that you see if it downloads, installs and works with that serial number, as free is always better than not!   (especially since it is known that iMac G5's are prone to hardware failure from bad capacitors! I had many of them...)

    I don't know how strict the OS requirements are. I do know that my old G5 iMac, even upgraded to Leopard, was able to run CS2. In fact, using Rosetta, CS2 still runs on my Snow Leopard.
    As you can see from the image, CS2 is running in my Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) environment in Parallels concurrently with Lion.

  • Confused about Bandwidth Profiler - what's it telling me?

    Hi All,
    I'm confused about the bandwidth profiler. I have two
    different SWF
    files, both are profiled for 56K modem. One file is 253K, 150
    x 260 px,
    599 frames @ 10fr/sec showing a preload of 96 frames (9.6 s),
    frame 1 is
    45K. The other is 197K, 800 x 150 px, 1009 frames @ 12fr/sec
    showing a
    preload of 484 frames (40.3 s), frame 1 is 189K. Why does the
    preload
    for the smaller file take 40.3 sec. while the larger file is
    only 9.6
    sec.? And what does preload mean? It appears to indicate how
    long it
    will take to download frame 1, is that correct? Why is the
    Frame 1 size
    so different between the two? And why does the smaller file
    size have a
    much larger frame 1 size. I just don't see why a smaller file
    should
    take longer to load than a larger file.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    preloaders preload all frames - usually a percentage -
    unfortunately most developers make you wait
    until 100% of the movie (all frames/content) is loaded when,
    if built correctly, only a much smaller
    percentage needs to be loaded before playing. Sounds like one
    of your movies has embedded fonts or
    objects set for export on frame 1 (like components) and they
    all have to loaded first (before frame
    1 actually) because flash doesn't know where in your movie
    they are located.

    Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please!

    I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please! Also, I still don't understand exactly what the benefits are. At the moment it seems a lot of hassle to change a system that's been working perfectly well and that I'm very happy with. I'm not at all sure whether the mac mini (1.66 GHz INtel Core Duo) can be brought up to the relevant spec to run ICloud.  Any thoughts?

    There are two aspects to iCloud.  One is simply getting an account, or migrating a mobileme account to iCloud.  The second part is using the various features of iCloud to sync contacts, calendars, use music match or photo sharing, and store iWorks documents.
    First to get an iCloud account:
    If you have a mobileme account, you can migrate by simply logging onto www.icloud.com (ignore any references to Lion and just click through to complete the migration).  If you have OS X Lion or an iOS 5 mobile device, you can create an iCloud account on that device using any valid AppleID.
    Once you have an account, you can use JUST the mail account if you wishi - it is a standard IMAP account so you would set it up like any other IMAP email account you have, in whatever client program you use to read email.
    To use the OTHER feautes of iCloud, your computers will have to be running OS X Lion (10.7).  Your iPhone 3G will never be able to use iCloud as it cannot run iOS 5 (you need a min. of an iPhone 3GS to run iOS 5).
    The requirements for OS X Lion are here - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html  You need a min. of a Core 2 duo processor so you mini is not capable of running Lion.
    So, in your case, the single reasons for iCloud would be if you have a mobileme account, then use the online www.icloud.com to migrate your account so you do not lose your @me.com email address.  You can use iCloud email (without using any other iCloud features) by setting it up as IMAP mail with these settings - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
    If you want an iCloud account and do NOT already have a mobileme account, you will need to upgrade one machine at least to Lion in order to be able to create an iCloud account.

  • I don't know anything about programming! What books should I read to start?

    I am a complete beginner in programming, but I really wanna code something. So I was thinking: What books should I read to start Cocoa-ing? I don't wish to just choose some book by random and take the risk that it might suck or be to old. All online courses I've found require some previous coding experience (except CocoaLab's one, but it seems to me that it doesn't cover the coding well enough).
    Should I read 'The C Programming Language, 2nd edition, by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie' (I've got an access to that book) and then some book that covers Objective C and then some book about Cocoa, or what? What about the 'Dummies' book, is it any good?
    Thank you!

    Two books are working well for me (I determined to learn Cocoa in March '08), *Programming in Objective-C* by Kochan (2nd Ed.), and *Cocoa Programming For Mac OS X* by Hillegass (3rd Ed.). Kochan's book is extremely good to learn about classes, objects, and general syntax, and assumes absolutely no programming background. There is nothing in there about XCode or Interface Builder. Hillegass' text is good, but really designed for those that have some programming experience and covers some introductory Interface Builder topics as well. It is labor-intensive, though, and to really get the most out of it, you need A LOT of time and a quiet place to work.
    I still refer to the CocoaLab document for some things, and there are a number of blogs on learning different aspects of Cocoa out there as well. They are not always easy to find; cocoa, xcode, and then specific NSxxxx class names are the terms that give the best Google results. I have seen rumors that Kochan's book will have a new edition later in the year to cover some of the Objective-C 2.0 topics.
    Good Luck,

  • I'm about to buy the MacBook Pro Retina 15 inch in USA. I will be using predominantly in Europe. What accessories should I be buying?

    I'm about to buy the MacBook Pro Retina 15 inch in USA. I will be using predominantly in Europe. What accessories should I be buying?

    We can't discuss what Apple is going to do or new products, but it does make a lot of sense if your gut feelings tell you to buy now.
    I got a really bad feeling and ran out and got the last of the 17" MBP's with anti-glare and Snow Leopard.
    Turned out I was right in listening to my gut, the abortion of OS X Lion came out killed my 15", Cupertino HQ was pwned by Flashback and Apple pulled the 17" MBP completely off the market.
    Apple has purposely put the Retinas front and center in their stores, so the majority of the know-nothings buy those. If they thought a bit about buying a machine with future options in upgrade options they would, like you, choose the non-Retina.
    Really if you want choice in hardware, your going to have to switch to a PC. As you can pretty much get anything you need on that platform. Apple's hardware choices have been sealing up and their OS X is turning into iOS, soon it's going to be nothing more than a dumbed down iPad.
    Windows 8 Pro can be downgraded to Window 7 even, and since Win 7 is supported until 2020, you should be set for quite a few more years. The choice of software is vast on Windows and it's sort of the next eveolutionary step up actually.

  • What about attribute 'checked' of input? What i should do: "removeAttribute('checked')" or "checked = false"?

    SCRIPT
    function vibor(){
    if (document.getElementById('autologin').checked = true){

    document.getElementById('autologin1').style.backgroundPosition = 'left top';

    /SCRIPT
    If i used "removeAttribute", in face input is checked. But if i used "checked = false", input's face not checked, but it checked in HTML code (if FireBug don't lies).
    Please, helped me somebody! I don't know what i should do.
    P.s. Please, don't scold me for my English. I don't speak English very much and that have a cause - i'm 14 years old and lived in Russia, where nobody may helped me.

    It is not an attribute, but a Boolean JavaScript variable and you can't remove it.
    Note that <i>if (document.getElementById('autologin').checked = true){}</i> will set that variable always to true.
    You probably want this:
    <br />
    <pre><nowiki>function vibor(){
    if (document.getElementById('autologin').checked == true){
    document.getElementById('autologin').checked = false;
    document.getElementById('autologin1').style.backgroundPosition = 'left top';
    } else {
    document.getElementById('autologin').checked = true;
    document.getElementById('autologin1').style.backgroundPosition = 'left bottom';
    } </nowiki></pre>

  • Confused about synching multiple phones to the same computer with different content: itunes wants to erase everything??

    I have had an i5 for some time, but my partner just bought one to replace her 3GS. We both synch to my itunes, and have been doing so for as long as I can recall. When we got her i5, we backed up her 3GS and reloaded the content into her i5. So far so good. Now, this couple of weeks later, I decided I wanted to put some of the movies, music, etc. that I have on my itunes library on her phone. I had previous installed some of the apps that I have there without trouble. However, when I tell my itunes to put movies (etc) onto her phone, it warns me (upon apply) that this phone has been sync'ed to another itunes, and that I can do what I am asking, but it will erase everything on the phone now! I cancelled this op at this point.
    As far as I know neither of us has sync'ed her phone to any other itunes, although she has probably downloaded stuff directly into the phone using the onboard itunes. Is that what it's warning me about? Is there any way to either pull the content off the phone, or merge the content with what she had locally downloaded? If not, I'm willing to sacrifice the few things that she had locally loaded as long as it's not going to, for example, erase all her photos, and contacts, and everything else as well at the same time!
    This is all rather confusing to me. It's actually rather confusing that one can synch multiple devices with different settings at all, and I'm extremely surprised that it works at all. Can someone clarify what's going on here? What I should/shouldn't do? What I can/can't do?
    Thanks in advance!

    First make sure you have authorised the iTunes computer you are using for all of the associated apple ID's via the Store Menu>Authorise this computer and enter the apple ID and password used on the phone (repeat for as many apple ID's are in use on the phone).
    Then right-click (or Control Click) on the name of the phone and select Transfer Purchases (this can also be found under File>Device>Transfer purchases). This will back up all of the purchases on the device to your computer, then when you sync with the phone it will put them back on even though it has just removed them.
    Its a round about way of doing it but she shouldn't loose anything as long as the computer is authorised for all of the apple ID's used on the phone

  • Confused about extending the Sprite class

    Howdy --
    I'm learning object oriented programming with ActionScript and am confused about the Sprite class and OO in general.
    My understanding is that the Sprite class allows you to group a set of objects together so that you can manipulate all of the objects simultaneously.
    I've been exploring the Open Flash Chart code and notice that the main class extends the Sprite class:
    public class Base extends Sprite {
    What does this enable you to do?
    Also, on a related note, how do I draw, say, a line once I've extended it?
    Without extending Sprite I could write:
    var graphContainer:Sprite = new Sprite();
    var newLine:Graphics = graphContainer.graphics;
    And it would work fine. Once I extend the Sprite class, I'm lost. How do I modify that code so that it still draws a line? I tried:
    var newLine:Graphics = this.graphics;
    My understanding is that since I'm extending the Sprite class, I should still be able to call its graphics method (or property? I have no idea). But, it yells at me, saying "1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Graphics.

    Thanks -- that helped get rid of the error, I really appreciate it.
    Alas, I am still confused about the extended Sprite class.
    Here's my code so far. I want to draw an x-axis:
    package charts {
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        import flash.display.Graphics;
        public class Chart extends Sprite {
            // Attributes
            public var chartName:String;
            // Constructor
            public function Chart(width:Number, height:Number) {
                this.width = width;
                this.height = height;
            // Methods
            public function render() {
                drawAxis();
            public function drawAxis() {
                var newLine:Graphics = this.graphics;
                newLine.lineStyle(1, 0x000000);
                newLine.moveTo(0, 100);
                newLine.lineTo(100, 100);
    I instantiate Chart by saying var myChart:Chart = new Chart(); then I say myChart.render(); hoping that it will draw the axis, but nothing happens.
    I know I need the addChild method somewhere in here but I can't figure out where or what the parameter is, which goes back to my confusion regarding the extended Sprite class.
    I'll get this eventually =)

  • Confused about nonGUI beans and events

    The crux of this is the question "When will a NON GUI bean use events to communicate?"
    Articles I have read advocate that Beans are not just GUI components, and I agree. However I've only ever seen examples of GUI Beans!
    I am writing a non GUI Bean to represent a credit card.
    Before I got concerned with beans I would have just written the class with some accessor methods and some functional methods to do what I want, something like;
    void setCardNumber(String n)
    boolean isNumberValid() //check the card number using MOD10
    and then used that class in my application.
    But now I want to make it conform closer to JavaBeans. I know that beans have methods, but I am confused somewhat about how events figure into this. Do nonGUI beans fire events/listen for events? Very often?
    What I am asking is, what events should a Bean like CreditCard fire? The main function of this Bean is to determine if the number conforms to MOD10 checks using isNumberValid() method.
    Consider that I want to write another Bean, a GUI component that takes card details and updates the nonGUI CreditCard Bean. Of course I want loose coupling, not every user will use my CreditCard Bean (especially if I dont get these events straight!). If I use property change events to fill in the card number etc in the CreditCard Bean, should I make it (the CreditCard bean) listen for focusLost events from the interface to determine when all the details have been filled in and fire an event about the validity of the card number?? Doesn't this break the rules a bit, by providing prior knowledge to the CreditCard nonGUI Bean??
    Should the CreditCard nonGUI bean fire an event to say that the number is valid/invalid?
    You will probably say, "WHY use events, when you only need methods?" and that is my question! When would a non GUI bean fire or listen to events? I want my non GUI bean to be completely ignorant of GUI stuff, so no focusLost listener.
    Should the credit card interface fire a custom event (CardDetailsEnteredEvent) and the non GUI bean listen for these? But that's tighter coupling than just implementing the methods isn't it?
    I think that the nonGUI bean will have property change listeners for the card number etc, but this begs the question, what is the point of setter methods if I am bound the properties anyway??
    I've read everything pertinent at http://java.sun.com/products/javabeans/training.html
    Thanks to anyone who can stop my head hurting.
    Jim

    Ah, I think I may have figured it out from the spec.
    "Conceptually, events are a mechanism for propagating state change notifications between a
    source object and one or more target listener objects."
    key phrase being "state change" - my non GUI bean CreditCard only really has two states; 1. incomplete card details and 2. complete card details. So I guess I could/should only fire an event (DetailsEntered) when the details are completely 'filled in'.
    Which leaves me with the GU interface bean, it has two states also, 1. details being edited (focus gained) and 2. details finished being edited (focus lost) - should then this bean fire its own event (DetailsEdited) or should it just rely on other beans listening for the focus lost event? It's my functional interpretation that a focus lost event signifies that the details have been edited, perhaps I should therefore implement my own event that has this contextual meaning (DetailsEdited).
    I'm aware that the names of these events are quite poor, I always find good naming to be another very important head scratcher!!

  • Confuse about Configuring Oracle Warehouse Builder

    newbie here... i am abit confuse on how to configure the Oracle Warehouse builder...
    I have 2 database... 1 source and 1 new one...
    I understand that i have to install the Runtime Repository in the database computer and the Target Schema through the client's computer...
    so all this while... i am just confuse about what to install into the source database and what to install into the new database...
    Please help...

    Location is a logical entity in your OWB design that can be either a database schema, a flat file location, an SAP application location etc. Once you complete your design and are ready to deploy the design into the runtime environment, you will have to 'register' the locations by providing the physical details of your location to OWB (user name/password, database, hostname etc.).
    I am a bit confused by your configuration - are the source and the target in two separate schemas or in the same schema? Your posts are somewhat contradictory.
    If they are in two different schemas, you should:
    1. Create a source module pointing to a source schema (you can then import data object structures from the source schema - i.e. you don't have to create source tables manually in OWB, but you can import them into the module automatically). This module will have a source location (for example SRC_LOC).
    2. Create a target module where all your target objects will be (i.e. where the data will be loaded). This module will have a different location (TGT_LOC). In your target module you will also create the mappings.
    3. When deploying, you will register SRC_LOC with the physical details of your source schema, while the target location will be registered with the physical details of the target schema. The code generated by OWB during deployment will make sure that the data is extracted from the source schema and inserted into the target schema (either by generating and using DB links or by qualifying the schemas in the extraction queries if source and target are in the same database instance).
    On the other hand, if both source and target objects are in the same db schema, you can have all your objects in the same target module and you will only have to register the location of this target module when deploying (LOC_TGT).
    That said, there can be a variety of reasons why there is no data in the target after you run the extract mapping that have nothing to do with locations, such as logical errors in the mapping (an inappropriate filter or a wrong join), insufficient privileges etc. I suggest you take a look in the runtime audit browser that should contain the error messages relative to your mapping.

  • Confusion about Kodo and JCA

    Hi,
    I'm a bit confused about Kodo's Connection Architecture strategy. It is my understanding that
    PMF's can be built to use the connection architecture. Along this line, one would configure the
    ConnectionFactory or ConnectionFactoryName, and possibly the ConnectionFactory2 and
    ConnectionFactory2Name properties in a PMF. The result of the PMF implementation supporting the
    connection architecture is nice integration with the application servers in terms of security,
    transaction, and connection management. One can lookup in JNDI a reference to a Kodo PMF that
    supports datastore transactions or to another one that supports optimistic transactions or to
    another one that supports NTR, and with proper settings of the transactional properties and suitable
    application code, one's sesson bean will work.
    But from what I can see of Kodo's JDOPersistenceManagerFactory class, it, itself, implements the
    ManagedConnectionFactory interface, meaning, I think, that this class is resource adaptor. And that
    the part that confuses me. Why would Kodo be a resource adaptor? I thought it used a resource
    adaptor, which I think is the same thing as a connection factory.
    Anyway, I'm puzzled, and I'm hoping that someone could straighten me out.

    David-
    The fact that Kodo can integrate into an application server as a
    Resource Adaptor, and section 3.2.2 of the specification that says that
    the PersistentManagerFactory should be able to utilize a Resource
    Adaptor to obtain connections to the data store are two separate issues.
    We implement Kodo itself as a Resource Adaptor in order to provide ease
    of integration into recent application servers. Your confusion is
    understandable, since we do not actually yet support the use of Resource
    Adaptors as the Connection Factories as per section 3.2.2.
    Does that make sense?

    Hi,
    I'm a bit confused about Kodo's Connection Architecture strategy.

  • I'm a bit confused about standby log files

    Hi all,
    I'm a bit confused about something and wondering if someone can explain.
    I have a Primary database that ships logs to a Logical Standby database.
    Everything appears to be working properly. If I check the v$archived_log table in the Primary and compare it to the dba_logstdby_log view in the Logical Standby, I'm seeing that logs are being applied.
    On the logical standby, I have the following configured for log_archive_dest_n parameters:
    *.log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/u01/oracle/archivedlogs/ORADB1
    VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_GMD'
    *.log_archive_dest_2='LOCATION=/u02/oracle/archivedlogs/ORADB1
    VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_GMD'
    *.log_archive_dest_3='LOCATION=/u03/oracle/archivedlogs/ORADB1
    VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_GMD'
    *.log_archive_dest_4='SERVICE=PNX8A_WDC ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_WDC'
    *.log_archive_dest_5='LOCATION=/u01/oracle/standbylogs/ORADB1
    VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_GMD'
    *.log_archive_dest_6='LOCATION=/u02/oracle/standbylogs/ORADB1
    VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_GMD'
    *.log_archive_dest_7='LOCATION=/u03/oracle/standbylogs/ORADB1
    VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PNX8A_GMD'
    Here is my confusion now. Before converting from a Physical standby database to a Logical Standby database, I was under the impression that I needed the standby logs (i.e. log_archive_dest_5, 6 and 7 above) because a Physical Standby database would receive the redo from the primary and write it into the standby logs before applying the redo in the standby logs to the Physical standby database.
    I've now converted to a Logical Standby database. What's happening is that the standby logs are accumulating in the directory pointed to by log_archive_dest_6 above (/u02/oracle/standbylogs/ORADB1). They do not appear to be getting cleaned up by the database.
    In the Logical Standby database I do have STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT parameter set to AUTO. Can anyone explain to me why standby log files would continue to accumulate and how I can get the Logical Standby database to remove them after they are no longer needed on the LSB db?
    Thanks in advance.

    I assume you mean in your question, why on the standby database I am using three standby log locations (i.e. log_archive_dest_5, 6, and 7)?
    If that is your question, my answer is that I just figured more than one location would be safer but I could be wrong about this. Can you tell me if only one location should be sufficient for the standby logs? The more I think of this, that is probably correct because I assume that Log Transport services will re-request the log from the Primary database if there is some kind of error at the standby location with the standby log. Is this correct?As simple configure as below. Why more multiple destinations for standby?

    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3='LOCATION=/arch2/boston/ VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=boston'
    The following table describes the archival processing defined by the initialization parameters shown in Example 4-2.
         When the Boston Database Is Running in the Primary Role      When the Boston Database Is Running in the Logical Standby Role
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1      Directs archival of redo data generated by the primary database from the local online redo log files to the local archived redo log files in /arch1/boston/.      Directs archival of redo data generated by the logical standby database from the local online redo log files to the local archived redo log files in /arch1/boston/.
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2      Directs transmission of redo data to the remote logical standby database chicago.      Is ignored; LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 is valid only when boston is running in the primary role.
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3      Is ignored; LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3 is valid only when boston is running in the standby role.      Directs archival of redo data received from the primary database to the local archived redo log files in /arch2/boston/.

  • Swamped and confused about products

    Hi guys,
    I am new to Oracle middleware products. After looking at a few articles, I am swamped and confused about those products, WebCenter (WC), Content Server (CS), Universal Content Management (UCM).
    1. WC has a built-in content database, part of Oracle database. CS also stores contents into Oracle database. Then what are differences between two types of content storage? Can I build WebCenter with Content Server as the content storage?
    2. WebCenter provides management functions on content. So does UCM. Users could contribute, review and release contents to web via both. Then what are differences between two types of content management? What more does UMC provide than the built-in content management in WC.
    3. Content Server needs a third-party web server (port:80) to publish its content. WebCenter Suite seems use Oracle HTTP Server (port:7777) to render web pages. Is it possible to integrate those two on one web server? Why is Oracle HTTP Server using a weird port?
    4. JDeveloper has the built-in OC4J container. But how can JDeveloper access or interact with Content Server or WC content database? Site Studio can access Content Server directly but only provides very limited portlet or ajax components. If I want to store web pages, static or dynamic, into WC and/or CS, which tool should I use?
    Can anybody help me with them? Or please point me to the right direction. I really appreciate it.
    thanks,
    Chen

    Plug it in and use the Transfer Purchases function, either from the resulting dialog box or from the File menu. If you need to authorize the computer, choose it from the Store menu.
