Confused...how do I import photos into a particular album?

I'm trying to import a bunch of Hubble Space Telescope photos into iPhoto. They are in a folder on my hard drive. I'd like them to go into an album I created titled "Astro photos for iPad".
Is there any way of picking selected photos and importing them directly into that album?
I rarely use iPhoto, but every time I do, it's a major head-scratcher. I don't know why, but I simply do not understand the interface or organization (folders, albums, events, etc.). The PDF help manual doesn't cover importing photos from the hard drive. I'm sure iPhoto works wonderfully for regular users. I know it's me, not you!
Where do the imported photos go? Are they in the aether until you, somehow, find them and then drag them into an album? How do you find them?
It seems that the strategy is to give an import an event name as the way to group them, but then I can't find the event. (It's usually mixed in with a bunch of dated events.)
Here's the complication in this case. I have dozens of images in that Hubble folder. I'm in iPhoto. I'd like to import selected ones. I have to import them one at a time because I'm checking on which image is which. Then they get lost as they were taken, and saved/dated, at different times. I suppose my only recourse is to create the iPad Hubble folder first outside of iPhoto and then import them in one fell swoop.
I know this will all sound ridiculous to those who use iPhoto regularly or simply just get it, but I'm lost in space--literally!
Any suggestions on making my way back to Earth would be greatly appreciated!

I have read through the explanation provided but unfortunately you just explained iPhoto.  I believe the original question was how do you import photos directly into an album and bypass "EVENTS" and "PHOTOS".
I know this an old thread but I need help in doing this.  I have my camera connected, and I have created an album specifically that I want these pictures to go into.  Any advise?  Thank you,
You can't do it.
iPhoto works like iTunes. All the tracks are in the Library, each playlist contains references to the tracks in the Library. So a track can be in any number of playlists without using extra disk space.
In iPhoto, all the phoots are in the LIbrary. Each Album contains references to the photos in the Library. So a photo can be in any number of Albums without using extra disk space.
Events and Photos are views of the LIbrary. Two doors into the same room, as it were.

  • How can I import photos into a specific album?

Wow, I have been using Applescript for 15 years but I can't get this to work. I just want to make a script that brings a JPG image into iPhoto '09 into a specific album, but it seems set against letting me, and I can't find specific examples of what I'm trying to do so far.
    tell application "iPhoto"
    new album name "hello"
add "Mac HD:Users:pp:mypic.jpg" to album "hello"
    end tell
This doesn't give an error and it makes the album, but nothing else. Nothing is imported into iPhoto.
Eventually I want to add a title and keyword data to that picture also using Applescript (hopefully not UI scripting), but since I can't get the barest basics of importing to work properly, I thought I'd see if anyone here could help.

I’ve never seens an AS that can do this. Hazel can and it might be worth examining it to see what you can learn.
Automator can do this too, but there’s no way in that to add keywords or titles in that - though it is possible with Aperture and Automator.
Given that we can go months on here without mention of AppleScript I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a better response on the AppleScript forum.

How do you import photos into imovie?

If you can open a Finder Window to your photos, you can drag them in to an iMovie project from the Finder.
Some third party apps might support drag and drop, but I haven't got Lightroom to test it. If drag and drop from LightRoom does not work, try exporting from LightRoom into a Finder folder and drag them in from there.

  • How do I move imported photos into an existing album in photos

I have a large collection of photos in iPhoto, arranged into events and albums.
If I now import from my camera i open up photos, not iPhoto.
After importing images how do I add specific images to one, or more, of my existing albums.
If I close photos and open iPhoto I can still import to iPhoto but the images do not appear in photos.

Enable the Sidebar if it isn't showing (View menu > Show Sidebar), then drag the photos into the album icon on the sidebar.

  • How to import photos into Folders or Albums from backuped CD-R

    I need you advice.
I made folders of photos in CD-R when I backuped. I would like to import them into each folders and album I made in i photo newly from the folders on CD-R. Even though I select "Add library" under "File" and drag& drop and copy from Finder window/ CD-R window, all are just imported into Library.

    Hi Mac Ito,
Here is something I typed out a couple of days ago for a response to another person. It might help you also.
Importing Images from the hard drive, CD, or DVD
To import a folder with subfolders of images maintaining the same organizational structure (or close to it):
Drag the folder into iPhotos viewing area.
A film roll will be created with each sub folders name. To view the rolls in the Library you need to first go to the menu bar and choose View>by film rolls.
To make each roll into an Album, highlight the tile of the roll
Go to File>new album from selection.
You will now have an Album in the source column with the images from that roll. Do this for each roll if you want them to be an Album. This is your choice.
Next, go to the menu bar and hit File>new folder
Name this new folder with the year or whatever the name was of the Parent folder containing the subfolders that you had dragged into iPhotos viewing area.
Next drag all the Albums into the respective new Parent folder you just made.
Albums- collection of images from one roll or many rolls. The Albums will be listed in your source column when you make them. The albums only contain placeholders for the images that are still in the library. They are not duplicates.
Rolls- rolls are created when you import folder of images. It will be given the name of the folder you are importing.
Rolls are also created from each import from your camera. You are given the option to name the roll at import.
Folder-a folder you create manually using the File>new folder command
Folders can hold Albums, slideshows, books, another folder, etc.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do you import photos into IPhoto from a RSS feeder?

I want to create a Photocast so I can deliver pictures into my friend's photo management program of choice. I have IPhoto 6 but my friends that have IPhoto 5 are having trouble. When I send them a Photocast, they can put the URL in the Safari Address Bar. They can see the pictures. But when you click and drag them to Iphoto, they do not get added to the Library, even though the green plus sign appears. The same thing happens if you drag to a desktop...an image appears on the desktop, but when you click it, nothing happens. It's like it's not a complete file or something.
Now,back in SAFARI, if you click the title of the picture file, it expands in the window. Then you CAN drag it to your desktop as a complete file, but it will still not add to IPhoto.
What is the best way to send pictures to friends other than sending emails with attachments?

Allan's suggestion of using the iDisk will work but will fill up the iDisk unless you do housecleaning occasionally. Another, non Apple way would be to upload them to an account on Twango.com. It sort of like MyTube but for photos and videos and is more personal in nature. It's free (monthly uploads are limited to 250MB/mo) and others can easily pop into your public channel (individual sections of a person's account are called channels) and download whatever size you want. You can select the size of your uploads from full sized to 1600, 1024 or 640 pixels max. What I like about the site is that you can email photos to your account. Makes it rather easy. You can also add slideshows and a ticker tape type of display from Twango to web pages (they create the code to use for the channel you select) like this. It's not an Apple thing but I've found it's quick. May or may not be what you're looking for.
    Do you Twango?

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh

  • How do I import photos from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2???

I have all my family photos for at least the last 6 years on Adobe Album Starter Edition 3.2. I cannot access them because it says a need a code to open them and I don't have that; they are no longer supporting that, so how the heck do I access all my photos?????

Thanks Pat, I've tried that to no success (quite a few different ways) even though I can see the file name in the page before the registration page covers it, and the *.jpg brings up over 32000 files, the problem here is that some images I know are also duplicated in the "my digital photos" file but how do I know if they are all there? there are over 4700 photos in the Album starter catalogue. The frustrating thing is I know they are somewhere perhaps safely in the "My digital photos" but what is making me wonder is my new Photoshop Elements 11 keeps reminding me of missing files??

  • How do I move a photo into an existing album on my Mac in 'Photos"?

"Photos" just got dumped on me with the OSX upgrade. I cannot find out how to move a photo into an existing album after importing it into "Photos" It is NOT intuitive on how to create and manipulate albums.

Duh! I think I was so put off by the forced change I did not think of the obvious.
    Thank You

  • IMovie 11 how do I import photos that ARE NOT in iPhoto

If I don't use iPhoto, how can I import photos into an iMovie 2011 project?
As far as I can see, you have to put your photos into iPhoto first. I don;t use iPhoto, I use Lightroom and it would be a pain if the only way that I could get photos into an iMovie project was to have to load them into iPhoto.
    thanks

I finally figured it out myself. You can drag photos from Finder into the project timeline.
I couldn't find this docuemented anywhere and every tutorial only talks about using iphoto.

  • How can I import photos inro Organiser in the same order as they are in my files?

How can I import photos into Organiser in the same order as they are in my files?

You can do a change to your files you want to import so they are in order that your version of PSE uses.
One of the benefits of PSE is that you are no longer limited to specific order or locations of pictures. If you want a spefic order for display purposes create an album and your order will be maintained in the album. Other than that I keep my display on Newest first(I have PSE 11) and rarely change it.

  • Import photos into Organizer Photoshop 7

How can I import photos into Organizer from a Desktop folder in the same order that I have arranged and numbered them?

I can confirm that Barb's method also works in PSE 7.
Are you on Vista or XP?
Can you give an example of two files that are in the desired order on Windows Explorer but a different order in PSE?
Most likely, youre encountering a feature of Vista Windows Explorer. PSE sorts filenames in Folder Location view by the customary dictionary (lexicographic) order used by most applications. For example, the file p15.jpg will come before p2.jpg, because 1 comes before 2 in the dictionary. But Windows Explorer sorts p15.jpg
after ps2.jpg, because it uses a different rule for sorting filenames if filenames end in numbers, then it sorts files that all have the same leading prefix by the numeric value of that number, not by dictionary order.
If this is indeed your issue, there are several alternate approaches:
    - Rename the files in Windows Explorer to have names of the form p002.jpg and p015.jpg (that is, the same number of trailing digits).
    - Use PSE albums rather than Windows Explorer to create ordered collections of photos. Its very easy to rearrange the order of photos in albums, much easier than renaming in Windows Explorer. In general, if you want to use the PSE Organizer, then things will go easiest if you do all your file management within PSE and not try to use Windows Explorer.
    - If you want your photos in order of date taken, use the PSEs Display > Thumbnail View to show them in date order. (Folder Location view shows in filename order, and albums show in the order you set.) Use Edit > Adjust Date And Time to change the date taken of any photos as necessary.
