Confused Mobo 848 Chipset

Help,
I recently got a mobo from ebay and to all intents and purposes it is meant to be a 848P Neo-V (V2.0), there is even a sticker on the board to this effect.
However when it boots up it says it has the 865 Intel Chipset and if you run the Intel Chipset Identifier it says it has the 865 Chipset, likewise SiS software reports the same
The board works but am keen to find out what it is I have or why it thinks it has a 865 Chipset
Any ideas

Those are called "system temp." and you can look it in Bios if your Mobo have sensors.

It boots Ubuntu fine.  Arch linux doesn't complain either.  I only found out about the problem when I tried to pacman -Syu straight after the install - there was no networking.  ifconfig had done its job but there was no routing table.  I manually added route add default gw 192.168.0.1 and edited /etc/resolv.conf to make sure I could get to my router but, again, it wouldn't work.  The forcedeth module had been loaded (ethernet driver) so I took a look at lspci (details in very first post) and can see that it's appears to be an issue with the PCI bus (the ethernet hangs off the PCI bus)I ran hwdetect --modules and pasted the output into /etc/rc.conf and rebooted.  Still no joy.
The mobo is an ASRock 939N68PV-GLAN.  It has an nVidia chipset (GeForce 7050 NB + nForce 630A MCP SB).  From my lspci results it would appear the problem is with the 630A MCP.  As Ubuntu works and Arch doesn't I'm perplexed.  And yes I've googled and followed what little help there is around.  Nothing has worked so far.  Hopefully someone will have experienced a problem with either the same mobo or the 630A MCP and they can tell me what needs to be done.

  • Which Chipset Drivers for my MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 mobo?

Hi - I was over on the nVidia website looking for the latest chipset drivers and video drivers for my MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard.  I am a bit confused about which chipset drivers and video drivers I should use.  Here's the MSI link to my motherboard stats:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1863
Question 1 - Can you provide a link to the nVidia website to the correct chipset drivers?
Question 2 - Can you provide a link to the nVidia website to the correct video drivers?
I am about to move my PC's components to a new tower, in addition to reformatting and partitioning my hard drive.  I want to make sure I have the latest drivers.
    Thanks
    Joe

The latest drivers appear to be the ones on the MSI site here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1863
The only drivers I found on the nVidia website are much older: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html

  • MS-6337LE mobo, cannot back up to tape

Recently rebuilt my system. 6337LE mobo, Celeron1.2GHz, on-board sound, Graphic Master GeF2MX400 AGPx4 video, Advansys PCI SCSI card. Four SCSI devices including HP Colorado SureStore T4 tape drive. OS is Win98SE.
Systems works well except for tape drive, which stops working after 30 or 40 minutes, although screen is still active and mouse pointer moves on screen. I have disabled Windows power saving (set to never, never), and set BIOS power saving to MIN SAVING (there is no NIL SAVING option available). Maybe not a power saving problem, but I suspect it is. All this gear used to work fine on my old HP mobo and PII-350.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Well now I discover that my Yamaha CD-R/RW drive on the SCSI bus is similarly misbehaving sometimes.  So I have a feeling that the mobo i815EP chipset, or the BIOS settings, are not getting along with the Advansys SCSI card.  I may need to try another SCSI card, although money is distinctly lacking around here at present.

  • GPU acceleration fix for Dell Intel and Nvidia chipsets with external monitor?

I have a Dell XPS laptop with both integrated Intel chips and Nvidia chips and I can only get the GPU acceleration to work when I don't have any external monitors plugged in.
Is there some way I can get Illustrator to enable the Nvidia GPU and stop being confused by multiple chipsets on external monitors? I really like the live zoom.

    same problem here,
'm getting a little frustrated trying to get my laptop working with my LG DLP 3D ready projector to display in 3D. The projector itself will work in 3D as long as the resolution is 1024x768@120hz and the laptop's NVidia GTX 770M should have no issues driving the projector with this resolution.
Where it seems like the problems occur is Intel HD 4600 graphics driver gets in the way every time i try to run anything 3D, the software Im using to run any 3D type files do not recognize the projector as a 3D capable device because all the laptop is using is the Intel HD 4600 graphics.
If I could somehow turn off the Intel graphics and just force the laptop to just use the NVidia card I think all my issues will go away. I just am not having success in doing this.
I have tried to go into the NVidia control panel and under 3D settings pick the software program that runs my 3D files and tell it to use the NVidia card...but it never works.
I think everything is sent through the Intel graphics card regardless if the laptop is using the NVidia card (just guessing here)?
I also tried to simply uninstall the drivers but that did not work,
I also tried to disable the Intel graphics but it then went into some type of generic display driver mode and still would not work.
I also went into the BIOS to look for any settings that would allow me to disable the Intel graphics card ..no luck, could not find any settings for this.
Can someone help me with this? how can I disable the Intel graphics and force the laptop to just use the NVidia card all the time?
    Thanks!!

  • Mobo won't boot PATA HDD

Bad mobo or BAD MANUFACTURER (MSI)
In past 7 years I have built over 35 systems from the case up.  This is the first one that is a total and fruitless failure ... I don't profess to be a guru, but then a mobo doesn't frighten me either (but this one is destined for the trashbin).  Mobo will not work VANILLA out of the box ... in fact it won't work at all.  I have tweaked everything in the BIOS every which way but win.  It is obvious that it is a 'timing problem' - but no idea of how to resolve.  I have turned everything on and off in every combination possible ... it is a mystery ... including jumpering CMOS.  The only thing productive ... but not desired ... is it will work XP SP2+ on SATA with WD2000 200GB SATA drive "out of the box VANILLA".  I want to boot 2000 SP4 on PATA primary -- that is all - finish.  Total boot failure on PATA IDE primary or secondary.  Constant reboot.  It will boot XP SP2 on SATA and show 'the installed PATA devices' and Win Explorer will show files.  The IBM 13.5 GB Win2000 SP4 IDE on PATA primary or secondary boots on TWO other computers 100%.  ON MSI 6728 constant reboot cycle (VANILLA) - no tweak successful.  It will attempt to boot XP SP2+ but fails on VANILLA totally (Maxtor 120 GB PATA) ... which works on other mobo.  If you turn off CPU cache and/or HT in BIOS ... it makes slight progress ... it allows the XP 'failed' reboot screen choice ... and with 'enter' eventually shows the WinXP boot screen AND at about 3 bars on the progress bar ... reboots.  Timing problem where? what? How to fix? Mobo in trashcan?  Why will it boot XP on SATA ... but refuse THREE proven PATA HDD drives with good operating systems.  The D-bracket LEDs do not light at all/ever. HELP!!!  I'm tweaked out.

    ATI AGP 440 128MB video
    PSU 300
No other devices installed except one at a time HDD described above.  Tried add A-drive ... no result.

Thanks Danny for your response.  I am afraid the answer is not that simple.
The system will boot thru SATA with Windows XP SP2 that was ghosted by Norton from Asus mobo P4P800.  It will NOT boot from a PATA drive ghosted from the same XP SP2 Asus mobo P4P800 disk.  By disabling L2 cache it will VERY SLOWLY boot up to the Windows Screen and allow about 2 - 3 bars in the Windows progress box ... then dies with a STOP and drive is inaccessable.  Funny ... that the drive was accessable up to a partial windows load.  Funny ... it will not even finish the BIOS loading and/or proceed to loading the OS if L2 cache is enabled.  It certainly has nothing to do with what is or is not on the disk ... since it does not get far enough to even recognize the disk was made on another computer.  But for the record Asus P4P800 and MSI Neo-2P both have the same 865  ICH5R Intel chipset.  Every conceivable setting in the "On Chip ATA Operating Mode" has been executed.  For some reason there is an unknown 'timing' problem on the PATA Primary that does not exist on the SATA.
The Asus P4P800 (Chipset 865 ICH5R) (P4 2.4 ghz with same memory modues)  will efficiently and quickly boot:
Win98 created on BE-6 mobo with chipset 440BX - WD 5 GB PATA HDD drive.
This system was transferred to a Maxtor 11 GB PATA HDD and boots on mobo Abit TH7 Raid using Intel Chipset 850.  This same PATA HDD boots equally well on another Abit series board ... TH7 II  .
The P4P800 boots Win 2000 SP4 from a PATA HDD (IBM 13.5 GB DJNA 371250)
created with Abit TH7 Raid (Intel 850 chipset) mobo.
A Windows XP SP2+ installed on Maxtor PATA 133 HDD 120GB using the TH7 Raid (chipset Intel 850 ICH2) Mobo performs flawlessly on either of the Asus P4P800 Intel chipset 865 computers.
A Win2000 SP4 installation 'ghosted' from the Asus P4P800 systems performs flawlessly on the Abit TH7 Raid system using a Seagate Barracuda 120 GB PATA drive.
Two other systems running Windows XP SP2+ ghosted from the Asus P4P800 onto two 80 GB PATA Maxtor HDD run on 2 TH& Raid sytems boards without any problem.
Whereas all of these PATA HDD work flawlessly on either the P4P800 or TH7 Raid and TH7 II computers ... none of these same PATA HDD will work on the MSI mobo.
The HUGE question ... why won't ANY of these PATA HDD boot on the comparable Intel 865 ICH5R chipset on the MSI Neo-2P (6728IMS) mobo.  The only thing that will work on this MSI mobo is the P4P800 system ghosted onto a SATA drive.  It boots like it should ... and then it can even read the previously "inaccesable" PATA HDD installed on Primary.
The finger is pointing at a 'timing error', the Intel P4 3.0e Ghz processor and the MSI motherboard.  Somewhere this marriage will NOT work on the PATA HDD input.  Do I eat these TWO MSI NEO-2p mobo ... or is there possible salvation.  I've jumpered the BIOS  a couple times to 'get clean' BIOS ... to create a simple plain vanilla system ... nothing tweaked.  Plain jane out of the box does not work.
First time in 35 different mobo from FIC, Abit, Asus, Intel, Gigabit, Tyan and a few others.  1 Failure out of over 45 boards is not bad, I guess.  Sadly, the settings you gave have been tried a dozen times over, as well as several dozen more combinations.  Any further suggestions are welcome.

  • K7N2-Delta L (Chipset Heatsink)

    Hi everybody
I have a problem, I buyed a MSI K7N2 Delta L and when I see the MoBo, the chipset heatsink were not attached to the Chipset, the heatsink have 2 mounting holes, but only in one of these the support is already inserted but the another support is on the board. the thermal grease (its white over the chipset) was applied on the chipset.
what I must do with the mobo??
put the heatsink or get back to the shop??
    (its normal that :S ????)
thanks, sorry for my english, isnt my native language...

if the store is nearby go there and get it fixed.
if not then either ask someone with the knowledge to do it or do it yourself BUT if you do not know what to do then do some research on as you can destroy the motherboard and i dont think it goes under warranty.
the chip also need to be cleaned and new thermal paste be used.
    even better.
throw that heatsink away and get one with a fan.
save the heatsink if you have to send the board for repairs.

  • ATI TV Wonder LE and MSi K7T Mobo - major problems

Has anyone got this combination to work properly or got any tips? My machine crashes all the time (hangs up) when I am using the ATI tuner card.
    System spec:
    MSi K7T mobo KT133 chipset
ATI 128 Rage pro 32MB graphics card
AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz (200 FSB)
    384 MB SDRAM PC133
    IBM 80G Deskstar 120GXP HDD

I doubt it's something that's too slow but rather a conflict of sorts.
I heared befor of problems with the ATI AIW but have no experiance with the cards myself so I don't have any specific suggestions regarding the card.

  • Memory Confusion

My mobo is an 865PE Neo2-P Platinum.  I currently have the memory from my old system, which is 1GB(2x512) of 333MHz (running at 320 MHz like the specs say) in dual-channel mode.  I was about to replace it with 400MHz memory, and then was told (by Kingston) that if I were to go up to 2GB it would run at 333Mhz--rank limitations or something.  Is this true?  Not sure I need 2GB, but if I found out I did in future I'd want to have the option.
In other words, can I run 4x512MB on this mobo @ 400 MHz?   Is there a big difference between 333 and 400 in performance? And should I get them all at once, or can I get them in pairs, or what?

I did run 4x512Mb A-Data DDR500 Vitesta in 400mhz speed for a short testperiod some time ago on a simular 865pe-MoBo like yours.
I did not notice any big performance boost/differans between 2x512 and 4x512 for the applications I was running at that time, so I put the other two 2x512 in another system, where I had more use for them.
If you´re gonna buy 2GB RAM, I would recommend to buy 4x512 at the same time, so that you get 4 identical sticks to ensure speed and dual channel compability now or later on - Look at the differant memory models in the testreport.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_trp_detail.php?UID=556
The statement about 4 x DDR400 running as DDR333, could be if the actual memorychip is not 100% compatibla with the MoBo/biosversion/chipset or maybe the are thinking about some AMD64 cpu / MoBos that have some limited performance when filling up all 4 mem.slots.

  • Geforce Nightmares - crash/lock-ups

    Hi,
I'll start this story from the beginning so you can see the full frustration of my problem. If you do not want to read the introduction skip straight past the line of **'s to the problem itself:
I bought an MSI ge-force 4 TI 4600 a few weeks ago and it didn't work, the card sprayed pixels on the screen at any oppertunity, failed to draw icons, windows, etc. correctly half the time and refused to run any 3D application period.
I spent many an hour trying to get the card to work, flashing the BIOS (my motherboard and the Card), tryin every driver i could find and I even bought a new 400W PSU to replace my 300W PSU in a bid to get the thing to work. I had no Joy and MSI agreed to take the card back for Repair (they refer to it as an 'RMA'.
Earlier today the card came back from MSI....only it didn't, they'd very generously upgraded my TI4600 to a new boxed FX5900SP. Like a small child at Xmas I ripped the thing out of it's box and proceeded to jam it into my case, plug it into the PSU and fire up my computer...
All seemed fine except The card seemed to draw text incorrectly and sometimes leave closed windows visible on the screen etc. I pressumed this was just because the proper drivers weren't yet installed so i inserted the driver disk and began installing when my computer crashed!
I rebooted, installed the drivers again, rebooted again, and all seemed fine except that my computer seemed to be running slower than normal. My desktop was being drawn correctly and there were no noticeable defects. My MSN fired up & i began to talk to a contact when my computer completely froze.
I rebooted again and after about 5 mins it froze again. I reinstalled the drivers it did it again. Occassionally rather than freezing, my monitor would just flick off with the message "no signal". I installed the latest Nvidia drivers and this did nothiing, i also tried the MSI drivers with no effect.
I tried to flash the Cards BIOS using MSI live update but my computer came up with memory errors so i went into DOS and flashed it manually but this also had no effect.
I have no idea what to do and i really don't want to send another card back to MSI, anyone know what my problem could be?
    Thanks! (Comp specs below)

I suspect that your problem lies within the motherboard, RAM, and possibly the power supply.
I would look at the power supply a little closer, please list specs, ie, Make Model and the corresponding amperages for the +12v, +5v, & 3.3v lines. It should be on the sticker of the power supply.
Secondly the RAM may have errors try  Memtest86 or the motherboard just does not like the GF or FX cards period, probably related to the mobo's chipset but since you didn't give any details, it's hard for me to even speculate at this point.
Personally I would look into a quality motherboard that supports your CPU and DDR RAM.
8X is not a big deal here and is not even really being used with any current games, the differences currently between the 4x and 8x is that of a fly's peenee

  • AMD dual core 64 X2 and Opteron 1**; what motherboard.

Hi to everybody, my name is Mauro and I am Italian. I have had for many years a lot of mobos MSI that are shown always reliable and with really excellent utility. An example the LiveUpdate that unlike utility of other brand is very comfortable and reliable. Currently I have a system AMD 64 X2 3800+ stepE4 with Asus A8N SLI Premium and memory RAM G.Skill PC4000 (chip Samsung UCCC) F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ PC4000. I have many problems of stability and I would want to return to the brand MSI. I use the PC as Workstation I am not interested to the SLI and I would want soon to pass to the CPU Opteron 1 * * dual core. The customer care G.Skill has reported that the brands of reference for the development of the forms are the MSI and few others. You would know me to suggest a complete mainboard in the endowments, silent and compatible with the CPU from me you quote. How VGA I have both chip ATI X700 Silent Pipes 256Mb or NVIDIA 6600 always silent pipes 256Mb. I am not interested to overclock. I am observing with attention the RD480Neo2 and other mobo with chipset NForce Ultra K8N Neo4 Platinum. Thanks for your share and suggestions.

Skippy, that's changing fast. Probably most major manufacturers are now explicitly supporting the Opteron.
Even MSI is getting there: K8N Diamond Plus
    Hi,
To a careful study I have discovered that perhaps my Asus A8NSLIPremium has a problem that Asus is resolving. However I have asked to one friend of mine to make a will the MSI K8N Diamond Plus; in Germany it is already available some exemplary. The fact that the development has been made really with the Ram DDR that I have purchased (the G.Skill PC4000) it is a very important factor for the stability of a system. You introduces then with a good section of feeding to 4 phases it is very important. Certainly I am not interested to the characteristics of overclock but a Ferrari is not purchased only for racing. I have not told you that in so many years I have almost always had 2 brands that have always guaranteed me reliability: Abit and MSI. Objectively now that have tried also a lot of Asuses (5) I are not fully satisfied. For instance the Utility: LiveUpdate2 gave me reliability in the update of the bios (operation that finishes in DOS); the utility AsusUpdate because of a bug in the summer '05 are cost me 3 MB (update that departs in auto and it finishes in Windows). Resulted not could remain without MB I have had to purchase other identical MB. And treating itself of corruption of bios no guarantee. I have also discarded Tyan because it accepts only certified RAM DDR and their support it doesn't guarantee the operation with my DDR G.SKILL. Now that are in game I don't sell certain the DDR!

  • Blank screen after CPU upgrade for CQ60-119 series

    Hi all.
    The model:
I recently decide to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ60-119TU purchased in 2008.
    The upgrades:
My son will use it to play some games on it. Yes I know - it only has an integrated 4500M graphics chip - but this should be fine for Spore.
Apart from changing from 2 to 4Gb of Ram I will swap out the 250Gb to a 640Gb hard drive. The CPU is also being swapped out.
Existing CPU: Intel Celeron T1600 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
Replacement CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
The laptop manual states this CPU as the best spec'ed replacement CPU I can put in the laptop.
Prior to this I upgraded to the lated bios which is F.65. All was working well with the T1600 at this time.
    Problem:
After replacing the CPU and pressing the power button the laptop boots up briefly for a couple of seconds and then powers off for a couple of seconds. It reboots and stays on (CPU fan is running) but there is nothing on the screen at any time.
If I replace the old CPU and the machine boots up with the screen displaying text  so video  appears not to be the issue (well ...not broken at least)
Any suggestions on how to get this CPU to work or is the CPU defective? Thanks in advance.

Have a look here and you'll see that having the wrong mobo northbridge chipset (not compatible with the FSB of the processor) will cause the T9600 not to work. If you have the GL40 chipset forget trying to get this processor to work with your existing motherboard. If you have the GM45 chipset then your issue is probably something else.
Don't know what your chipset is? Download the free utiliy CPU-Z and run it.
FYI - The same model motherboard with the GM45 chipset is a 485219-001.

  • SB Audigy 4 Driver Probl

At least, I *think* it's a driver problem. Let me start from the beginning.
Just about every other time I start up my PC, my SB Audigy 4 (Retail) runs into a problem. That is, the nice Exclamation Point shows up, and it doesn't see it as a SB Audigy 4, but rather a "Multimedia Audio Controller" (MAC for short). So I uninstall the MAC, reboot (note, at reboot, it shows it as a Creative Soundblaster Audigy Audio Processor, still with the yellow exclamation point next to it, and still with (CODE 0) attached, and install the SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004.exe drivers. (Why, oh why does it only come in EXE format? What happened to the Good old days of .inf files?)
    Pic Follows:
    http://www.sglider.net/images/Audigy4uninstalled.JPG
I install, and everything goes well. I reboot, and my Sound drivers are there, so I can play my favorite games. But, the next time I reboot my PC, I'll have lost my Sound Drivers again --- though it doesn't happen every time, but I can't go more than 2 reboots without it happening again.
I'm really getting tired of reinstalling these drivers on every boot up. Does anyone have the skinny?
    My system details follow:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (333mhz Barton)
Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra Mobo (Via chipset - Newest Hyperion Drivers installed) - Motherboard updated.
    Ati Radeon X850XT AGP
    SB Audigy 4
    2 GIG PC2700 DDR SDRAM
Microsoft Windows XP Professional w/SP2 and all updates.
Thank you for your patience, and your assistance.

Thanks for that tip, that may make it so I don't have to do stupid things to get it to see the driver.
Next step though is to find a way to keep the Driver from mysteriously uninstalling or borking itself so I don't have to keep reinstalling it. Any ideas?

  • Sound issues in bfvietnam

I can hear sound in vietnam, the shooting , the explosions, and the music peopel play from their mp3's. But i run into a problem where i will see someone shooting right in front of me and there will be no audio or at times there will be an explosion from a distance i hear no audio, or someone flying past me and no audio. There any updated sound drivers for mobo sound chipsets?

BF Vietnam runs on all high settings perfectly on my system. With the RAID going, maps load me up faster than just about everyone.
Some say to run the standard sound (non EAX) to eliminate sound problems, but I don't have any problems with my AC97 sound on my system.
Also, have you tried the lagfix program to set soundbuffers to=400. Do a quick Google if you haven't to find an .exe to set this for you easily.
EA is releasing a patch shortly as well, which is expected to reduce lag from the server side, so the gameplays closer to what its requirements say they are.
Right now, there's no way in hell the game will play well on a 933mhz with 256MB RAM even on its lowest settings. Trust me I was on a 1.1 Athlon with 640MB before I upgraded and I moved like Steve Austin half the time (that's slow motion for you under 30 crowd)
