Confused re: CS5 v Elements, different versions of ACR, etc.

I'm sorry, but I am just thoroughly confused now.
I have been using CS4 with ACR 5.4 though I prefered Elements 6; I'd do my RAW editing with ACR and anything else, usually, with Elements 6.  But, yup, I got a new camera.  Still Nikon but I found out I had to have ACR 6.  So now I have Elements 9 and ACR 6 and I am noticing a lot of differences aka problems that I didn't have before.  So I am wondering if this is because I am trying to use this with Elements and am I going to have to get CS5?
Here are my issues:
1. Even though I tell it to open several files, only one NEF will open in ACR at a time.  If I open the image or close it, the next one will open it.  Previously in ACR 5.4 I had a sidebar of thumbnails on the left and could edit something like 70 images at once if I wanted.  This adds a lot of time to editing, of course, if I have to do them one at a time.
2. In ACR, when I'm done editing and I click on Save Image, the only option I get to save it as is a DNG.  I had no idea what a DNG before today was.  Granted, I'm sure they're useful for many people but I really need to do save as a JPG, like before in version 5.4.  This also goes hand in hand with my first problem, before I would batch save them all when I was finished.  I don't understand why I should need yet another file type.  I looked at the DNG converter but I don't see how to save DNGs as JPGs without opening them (and again, version 6 is only letting me do one file at a time).
I think there was more but I can't remember right now, if I do I'll come back lol
thanks

This Camera Raw FAQ entry helps sort some of the compatibility out.  As you probably know, you can look in the Camera Raw ReadMe files to determine what camera is supported by what version.
When running as part of Photoshop Elements, Camera Raw reduces some of its features.  Perhaps this is at the root of the differences you are seeing.  I don't have personal experience with Camera Raw and Elements 9 together, but I can tell you that Camera Raw 6.x does allow the opening of multiple files as thumbnails along the left side of the dialog when run with CS5.  It also allows saving JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files, in addition to DNG.
Perhaps you should have updated to Photoshop CS5 instead of Elements 9.

  • Adobe media encoder components have different versions error CS5 (32 bit)

I updated the CS5 suite the other day and all the updates installed fine, except adobe media encoder which said "done with errors" (no indication of what the errors were mind you).
Now, when I open Adobe Media Encoder (CS5) it pops up saying "Adobe Media Encoder components have different versions. Please update Adobe Media Encoder."
This is the 32 bit v of CS5 (so no Premiere or AE) but Adobe Media Encoder is still used to encode flv etc for the web (Flash and Dreamweaver).
The CS4 suite version of Adobe Media Encoder (that does have Premiere and AE) works the same as always. Has anyone else noticed this?

This was a problem with the installer.
We have updated and posted a new version to Adobe.com.
If you still get error on launch, you can download the new patch and install it to fix this issue:
    1.       Go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4869
    2.       Download the patch and save it on your Hard drive.
    3.       Unzip the file.
After unzipping the file, you should end up with one installer and two folders:
    4.       Dbl-click on “AdobePatchInstaller.exe”.
This will over write the previous 5.01 patch you installed with new one.
Since we didn't actually change the files inside the patch, but basically fixed the installer, this update has the same update number 5.0.1.
We have also updated the update manager and future automated updates won't have this issue.

  • Different versions of Adobe Creative Suite Compatibility (CS5 and CS5.5)

Our marketing team has two different versions of Adobe Creative Suite (CS5 and CS5.5).  We can save the CS5.5 down to an IDML document so users with CS5 can open/manipulate the file but it reduces the file size significantly.  What I do not know is if this saving down process reduces the quality of the file??  I am relatively inexperienced with these programs as I am self-taught.  Thanks for your help!

IDML is good for repairing files.
But IDML is not good to be used as exchange in a workflow because every export of IDML can change things in an unexpected way. So I would strongly recommend that everyone in the department involved in the workflow uses the very same version, anything else will let you struggle in a later point of time. When I have to exchange files with a client I use always their versions and avoid IDML in exchanging files in any case possible.
Between CS5.0 and 5.5 are also several changes possible, because some bugs related to the text engine became fixed. E.g. in CS5 if you had an automatic TOC or cross reference in a text frame with 1 or 3 round corners and 3 or 1 normal corners, automatic number got shuffled in that frame, like page 345 became 543. When this was fixed some changes in the text engine have been done.

  • Confusion about third-party-libraries in different versions in CE 71.

    Hi
After some research on the use of different versions of third-party-libraries in SAP netweaver CE 7.1, I am actually quite confused and would be happy if someone could shed a light on that subject....
    1. Is there a way to tell netweaver CE 7.1 to use a library in my WEB-INFlib-folder by simple configuration?
E.g. we would like to use a third-party-lib in a newer version than the one which is loaded by CE 7.1. Many application server provide a simple configuration option (e.g inside META-INFapplication.xml) where the web as can be forced to use the library inside WEB-INFlib for this application.
2.Is the concept of "heavy loading" described in a blog by Georgi Danov(Using Hibernate in SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment) the answer to question 1.?
Does it also work for other third-party-libraries than hibernate? Does it work at all?
    3. In the blog mentioned in question 2, Mr. Danov is talking about "shared libraries". Does this mean, that I have to forget everything about "bundled" and "standard" libraries explained in help.sap.com/CE, if I want to create a heavy loader?
He is referencing another blog (Applications and shared libraries) which is two years old? Can I still apply the information there to CE?
    4. Are "Bundled libraries" applicable when using different versions of third-party-libraries in CE 7.1?
In "Working with libraries" (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/f4e00e56ec0486e10000000a155369/frameset.htm) it says:
"Bundled libraries: These provide resources only to a single enterprise application, and are packed inside the application's EAR file."
=>As I want to provide the lib only to my enterprise application, I will probably have to create a bundled library, right? Does this also work if netweaver CE 7.1 uses a different version of the same library?
    5. Do I need Netweaver Developer Studio for creating "bundled" libraries?
Or can I copy the binaries in the WEB-INFlib-folder of my application, deploy it and use it?
    6. Is configuration of application-j2ee-engine.xml the right place to reference a third-party-library in a specific version which exists in WEB-INF/lib-folder in my application even if it exists also in another version on netweaver?
=> In the document "Troubleshooting: Finding Missing Parent-Child Relations" it says: "To implement the chain of parent-child relations in the deployment descriptor of the component, use either application-j2ee-engine.xml (for applications) or provider.xml (for libraries and services)."
=> "Creating standard libraries" (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/f447a8d62b0484e10000000a155369/frameset.htm9 tells me, that I have to configure the file application-j2ee-engine.xml, too.
=> But in "Working with libraries" (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/f4e00e56ec0486e10000000a155369/frameset.htm) it says:
"Standard libraries: These provide resources to all enterprise applications deployed on the server. They are packed in EAR files like the enterprise applications."
=> Does this mean, that I have to force Netweaver CE 7.1 to use a higher version of a certain third-party-library? Does this even work? Do all applications deployed on Netweaver 7.1 have to use this library in the higher version?
It is really confusing to read through the documentation!!! Sorry for that avalanche of questions, but I really hope it will make the issue of using libraries (especially if they exist in different versions on the CE 7.1) a little clearer!
    Best regards
    Bettina

First of all, the appropriate docs are here: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/f4e00e56ec0486e10000000a155369/frameset.htm|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/f4e00e56ec0486e10000000a155369/frameset.htm].
Basically what you do is define a lib project in the studio and deploy it do the server. This may be less comfortable then just configuring manually, therefore it work better in larger environments because the server checks that libs are available in all running instances - which it could not do if you manipulate diretories manually  (an approach you should never attempt in any SAP envrionment)

If Georgi describes it, I hope so, as he is one of our developers who knows best.

"shared" are all of theses libs, as otherwise they would be specific to an application.

This was about anearly version of CE and even Georgi updated the blog this year to talk about slight differences. So yes, this still applies.

    >
That depends... Your application uses it's own classloader which means it should only use your libs in case there is another version available on the server. But if you're trying to deploy a lib that is used by a service of the server (int that case loaded by the server not your classloader!) I'm not so sure.

You need the Studio. No way around that. [Edit:] Sorry, misunderstood you here: I thought you want to copy something into the deployed directory on the server! - Of course, any deployment method would do it and though copying binaries seems to be valid. However,  I'm checking this currently with development in detail.

  • I'm confused (different versions of PhotoShop CC)

Why did Adobe release two different versions of PhotoShop CC (the upgrade to PShop CC and PShop CC 2014)? I assumed that, as a subscriber to the Creative Cloud, the one version of PhotoShop CC that I originally installed (last year) would be continually upgraded and that I would not have to download an entirely new version to keep up with new features. This is a big mistake on Adobe's part and sounds to me as if it's just a marketing ploy. ("See? We've released a new version of PhotoShop this year and you should join the Creative Cloud to get it.")
Adobe, your upgrade/updating policy needs some reworking.
    Dave

This is a major new version release.  Adobe has been doing this for years.  it's just like an upgrade from CS5 to CS6.  By Adobe doing this, it allows the user to go back to an older version of PS if necessary.  There are a lot of reasons why someone would want to do this.  many of us were hounding Adobe to make sure we could fall back on an older version - myself included.  So this isn't a mistake, you still get the latest and greatest version with your subscription.  You now have a choice which one you want to use.

  • The different versions, regions (confused)

    Hi all.
I have been checking around some for Web Premium CS4 software on the net and I'm honestly confused about all the different versions.
I am not talking about the pricedifferences here.
Can someone tell me what the different versions are of any given CS4 product and what the difference are between them?
I know the actual software is probably exactly the same but what about support, license etc? If a person buys an US version will he be able to upgrade it later on from his home in Germany?
I've heard that there are two versions, US English and US international. But what is this "UK Version" that people are selling on ebay, is that US International?
I hope you understand what I mean and hope someone can explain this *scratches head*

My only advice to you is buy from a reputable AUTHORIZED dealer. Anything else is a crapshoot and that hold especially true for eBay where a majority of software sold is illegal.

  • In Windows 7 I mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and all applications (CS3E, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from programs on the start menu

WIN7: Mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and now all Adobe apps (CS3, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from the programs list in the start up menu.
CS5 Bridge is still there so I can get into the photo editor to de-activate it and re-install.
However, all of CS3 has disappeared so I cannot get into it to de-activate.
Question 1: Will downloading and re-installing Adobe Application manager get CS3 automatically back?
Question 2: If not, what to do to get CS3 back things working properly again? Remember, I can't de-activate it.
Thanks and have a happy day!

Don't worry about activation unless you are installing on a new and different machine. Simply reinstall in order. It should all work.
Then install any updates. Product updates
After that, let me know how it went and if there are any further questions.

Trying to download  CS5 and Elements 11.  I have my serials numbers.

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here: http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html and here http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • Problems opening CS5 and Elements 7

I have both Photoshop CS5 and Elements 7 on my laptop, which uses OS Windows 7 64-bit. Recently I was trying to use CS5 and it keeps freezing on me and giving me an "Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stopped working" error. Since CS5 wouldn't work, I tried switching to Elements 7. When I double-clicked the icon, I got nothing but the swirly blue 'wait' circle. It won't open at all unless I try to open a PSD file, then the editor screen pops up for just a moment and I get another "has stopped working" error. The only thing I've recently installed was an Intuous 5 tablet. Thinking that might be the problem, I tried uninstalling it but not only does the problem still persist, I can't re-install my new tablet because the installation software uses Adobe Projector and I get a, wait for it, "Adobe Projecter has stopped working" error. All my other programs are working fine, it's only the Adobe programs that keep giving me errors. I've tried restarting the computer and uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop. My system is fully updated, as are both programs. The error I get in the event log is this:
"Faulting application name: PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe, version: 7.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x48cff252
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17725, time stamp: 0x4ec49b8f
    Exception code: 0xc0000005"
Help, anyone? I would really like to be able to actually use my brand-new, kinda pricey tablet.

I have looked at the answers to other questions of this nature and I'm sorry, but I fail to see how this is *not* Photoshop. Even the link you posted above says that if it only happens with a single program then it's probably that program. Every non-Adobe program on my computer works fine. Therefore, according to your own link, the Adobe programs are the issue. And either way, if the Adobe programs are all that are effected, then I question why Adobe programs are such frail hothouse flowers that they and only they are effected by these errors, yet Adobe sees no reason to attempt to fix their programs so these errors don't occur. Excuse me if I sound rude, but this just seems like a lame attempt by Adobe to "pass the buck," so to speak, by claiming that errors that effect their products (and *only* their products*) are the fault of something not theirs.

  • Wondering if different versions can reside on one machine

    Hello.
I have a complex but currently working setup on my win-xp/32 bit sp3 computer.
I have used photoshop since CS and am currently using CS3 extended.
Here's the complex part.  I then discovered I'd like a few other programs and opted for Design Premium CS3 as it was more cost effective even though I had photoshop CS3 extended.  It all is happy working together (and I don't think there's a reason it shouldn't).
What I'd like to do now, is install photoshop CS4 extended.
Will photoshop CS4 play nicely with DP CS3?  I ask because I know there are so many common files and things that get shared between components that I'd hate to see something conflict where the colour picker in PCS4 for example is different and suddenly the one in say, Flash has changed to the "new" palette.
Even stranger still, would it be possible to leave photoshop CS3 on the computer as well?  I know this may seem odd, but if I share this computer with people who don't need CS4 and are comfortable with their workflow.  I on the other hand need the latest ACR so I have to upgrade.  That again brings me to wonder if installing the latest ACR will "foul up" CS3 and it's ACR.
I know this may have been discussed at some point in the past as CS4 has been available for some time, but I thought my combination of programs and variations might make this situation unique.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Not specific to your versions, but I had PS 4, 5, 7 and CS all on the same machine for various reasons. All ran fine. Now, the only little thing was that file types, like PSD, were affiliated with CS (then my latest version), but that did not affect anything.
With some programs, like Adobe Encore, there is a direct link to PS, Edit in Photoshop, and a few people have run afoul when they installed PS CS4, but wanted the Edit in Photoshop call to open CS3. It was a simple matter of just changing the file affiliation for .PSD (the format that Encore Menus are done in) to CS3 - fixed.
Other than that, I have never heard of any issues, but like I said, different versions.
Also, and this applies to Premiere Pro CS3 & CS4, but might carry over to other Adobe programs: if one has PrPro CS3 installed, then installs PrPro CS4, and THEN uninstalls PrPro CS3, some necessary parts of PrPro CS4 are deleted. The trick is to just do a Repair Install of PrPro CS4 and all is fixed. There were obviously some folders/files common to both versions, and removing CS3 took those out. I'd guess that Adobe has plans on making sure that similar does not happen with CS5, but that is only a guess.
Good luck, and wish that I had something specific to the versions in your question,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro CS3  Vs Premiere Element  (latest version)

    Hi there,
I need need help on whether to buy Premiere Pro CS3 or Premiere Element (latest version) ?
    1. Can the Element run multiple videos at the same time ? For example, I wanted to run say 4 videos at the same time on different part of the screen.
    2. Can Premiere Pro CS3 create a 3D words say "Adobe" and do the following effect:
    i) a 3D alphablelt of "A" appear from inside the screen them zoom out, and as it zoom out, it rotates along the Y-axis then stop. This followed by "D" then "O" then "B" then followed by "E". By the time E stops, you will have the words ADOBE
    Thanks

Cool3D is a much more powerful program for creating the effects you described then After Effects. The 3D layers in AE have no depth: they are like postcards that you can move in 3D space. The objects (and words) that you create in Cool 3D are three-dimensional. They have depth and you can see their thickness when moving them through 3D space. Like in AE you can use multiple light sources of different colors and types. The program is easy to use if you limit yourself to the presets provided. The program has not been updated to make use of multiple processors so rendering takes a long time. But the results are superb. Just make sure that you render to "Uncompressed AVI with 32 bits" to get the alpha channel. (In Ulead lingo "Field Order A" is lower field first.)
Don't get me wrong. Cool 3D is very limited in its capability. It is not After Effects. But what it does it does very well.

  • Best PC to buy for Photoshop CS5, Premiere Elements and Proshow Producer

I am looking for a new PC to replace my 10 year old one.
This would be used primarily for Photoshop CS5, Lightroom, Premiere Elements and Proshow Producer.
I am thinking of going to Digital Storm to get one of their top line gaming machines with Sandybridge cpu, high end video card and at least 16 to 32 gb Ram
(although I do not play games on the pc}.
Is this overkill, or would a different kind of PC be better?
    what do you recommend?

I'm definitely going to look into it. Thanks. Have a great holiday.

Dell Precisions are great machines, you could look into their Studio or Studio XPS too. Not quite workstation qualtiy but I'm beating the snot outta one @home and it's holding up well for a 600 buck eBay chassis...

  • Can cells set to custom format appear differently on different versions of MS OFFICE?

I'm currently involved in a data enrichment project where we convert some financial data for our clients in excel. We've been facing a problem with date formats in the reports sent to us by the client.
We're supposed to enter 4 different dates in separate columns with 3 different formats. For example in one column the date format should appear in the dd/mm/yyyy format and in another as dd-mm-yyyy. What we've done is set all these cells to CUSTOM format
and in the TYPE dialog in the Custom Tab typed "dd\/mm\/yyyy" where we need the date to appear as dd/mm/yyyy and "dd-mm-yyyy" where we need the date to appear as dd-mm-yyyy.
However, the client says that when he downloads the file on his computer he sees the date formats set to DATE and not CUSTOM. Is this possible?
Can a cell set to CUSTOM FORMAT appear differently on a different version of MS OFFICE?
Does the Operating System also have a role to play in this?
For example if we've typed our data in OFFICE 2007 on a system with XP as the OS, will it not open as CUSTOM when we open it in OFFICE 2010 with Windows 7 as the OS?
We need serious help on this as this confusion has put our project in jeopardy.

Thanks for the help Jim. Just to make it clearer we haven't used quotation marks in the date formats. Further, we were told to use back slash by the client cause according to them this would help in keeping the date formats as fixed to custom format on any
computer that the file is opened on.
What I'm trying to figure out is that if a cell is set to a custom format, can it appear differently when opened on a different computer?
We've sent the file using Sendspace.com to our clients and when we download the file and open it on any version of MS Office we still see the custom formats in the date fileds. However, the client insists that it appears differently on their computers.
Is it possible for a cell set to a custom format to not appear as custom on a different computer?
Just to remind you again that we've downloaded the file on almost every version of Office and have noticed no change in the formats set by our team. How then is it possible that the dates doesn't appear as custom formats on their system?
I would really appreciate if you could help me solve this situation.

  • Why are there different versions of Firefox 28.0 for Windows

I have a desktop PC running Windows 7 and a laptop running Windows 8.1. I set them both up with Firefox, and they both have Firefox 28.0 installed at the moment.
However, while the desktop version is a plain 28.0, the laptop declares itself to be 28.0 EU ballot. (yes, it probably was loaded via the browser choice facility in Windows).
Is there any actual code difference between the versions, and if not, why confuse me by identifying them differently?
The difference came to my attention while i was investing a problem with a mapping program on the UK's national government mapping services website, which runs fine on the desktop, but stalls while loading on the laptop. The Ordnance Survey say that they are working on fixing a problem introduced by Firefox 28.0, so I started looking at the differences between my two machines.

Sorry, perhaps I was unclear. The OS have not, to my knowledge, published anything regarding the problem with Getamap - the information came in an email reply to a support call I raised when I encountered the hang. Here is the text of that reply.
    Dear ************,
Thank you for contacting Ordnance Survey regarding OS getamap.
The latest update to Mozilla Firefox has effected users trying to access OS getamap. We are currently working on a solution to resolve the issue. Presently you should be able to access OS getamap with Internet Explorer.
I hope this information has been helpful.
    Kind regards,
