Confused???Upgraded Zen Micro software or not?

Bought Zen Mirco 2 weeks ago for my daughter and brother but the battery life is short. So i told them not a problem coz we can download the new upgrade software from creative. But after reading the problem of still being the same should i download it or not?
What is the actual play time for the player?Thought it was 2hrs.
My eldest girl had the Neeon and the battery life is so much better than Mirco.
My mum is using Muvo Mirco N200 with AAA battery and is the BEST.

Well i am running all the latest software updates and my micro (currently about 4 months old or so) is working great.
battery life depends on loads of diferent factors in no particular order bitrate of songs, how long you fiddle around with it/if the backlight stays on for heaps it will waste battery how loud is the music what sort of music etc etc etc
If you are curretnly on a .xx.xx firmware and upgrade to a 2.xx.xx firmware you will need to reload all your songs.
Be very aware of that before upgrading.
Anyway to check whats available
Plug your micro into your PC
Connect to the internet
go to this URL :
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/su.asp
It will check all the available updates for your device
Hope this hel
ps.

  • Zen micro software - sort

I'm uploading large files, including only digets in them, for example
    00
    023
    03
    033
why doesn't the zen micro software sort them automaticly?
Message Edited by Catherina-CL on 06-06-2006 02:22 PM

I have renamed the thread so the title is more descripti've (and not flaming).
Can you be more specific, with regards to your question? Are they music tracks, and you want them sorted in order? If they have the same album name they will be listed together, just make sure the song number is in the ID3 tag aswell.

  • Can I upgrade Zen Micro 5GB to anything say 20

Is there any sort of case that I can purchase to use the old dri've as back-up mobile storage
Are there any firmware problems (not just 'issues')?
    Thanks

Upgrading the older players was easier, particularly those that use the 2.5" dri'ves because (a) 2.5" dri'ves tend to come in only a few different sizes (b) they're relati'vely cheap (c) you can get a pretty significant upgrade to say 00-20Gb.
With the newer players it's not so straightforward. Dri've form factors can vary slightly causing the dri've not to fit, the smaller dri'ves are much more expensi've particularly in larger sizes, and you don't get significant changes in size.
This tends to mean it's uneconomic to try upgrading the newer players.

    For the Micro's microdri've, I'm not sure.

I'm losing track of the various issues with the players, but have a look at the buglist linked from my signature.

  • Creative Zen Micro "Device is not connect

When attaching MP3 player to my PC the Creative software does not start automatically and when I try to drag music files on to MP3 player get message "The device is not connected". When I try to install MP3 player get the following message "The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device, click reinstall driver". When I click on this option (reinstall driver) get the following message "Windows was unable to locate the software for this device".
I appear to have loaded the software that enables us to transfer tracks from a CD but cannot then get these across to the MP3 player as the PC does not recognise the device. However, when I loaded the software I did get the following message during the installation process "An error occurred while setting up the driver. Setup Nomad Jukebox 2,3,Zen, Zen NX, ZenXtra, Zen Touch and Zen Micro Driver". Not sure if this is related to the MP3 player not being recognised by the PC.
Downloaded driver "JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE from Creative site but did not appear to help situation.
My PC is a Dell Dimension 400, OS Windows Millennium, Pentium 933Mhz, 256MB memory.
    Would appreciate any help.
    Many thanks

Many thanks to SSR who replied to my query. Followed instructions and can now transfer files to MP3. Once again many thanks for your help. Cannot guarantee I will not be back for more advice so dont go away!!!

  • Zen Micro software request

I've lost the original install disc for a regular 4 Gb Micro and can't find the needed dowload on the Creative site. I searched the forum and the once hosted links are no longer there. Anyone have this? I can't add any music or playlists without it. Thx.

Re: Zen Micro software requestFWell lucky you The one thing you will need to do with the XP computer is to rollback WMP to WMP0. Instructions for that are?here? after you have done that download to your desktop this here? firmware & install it to the Micro be sure that the players battery has been fully charged before you you update the firmware. Also the update will erase all music files from the player so back them up on the XP computer if you don't have copies of them. You will then be able to use your Micro on the Vista computer with just WMP no additional software needed.

  • Zen Micro Software Upgrade Confl

I posted in another thread, but thought this board supported BBCode, so my other post is rather jumbled.
I received my Zen Micro earlier this week, played with it a bit, and decided I would like to continue using it without MTP. But I would like the latest firmware.
My current firmware is .02.05, and I am using Zen Media Explorer 4.00.22 - these came on the CD with my Micro.
On the Creative support page, I selected the "Step by Step" Micro Firmware Upgrade Instructions, and continued answering "NO" to "Would you like to Use Online Subscription Services". The firmware version I want is clear enough: ..0. But the software is not clear at all. First I am taken to a page which says I need the following:
    Zen Micro Media Explorer 4.00.8
    Sync Manager 4.00.5
    Jukebox Type Plugin 2.00.07
When I click on the download link for the above, I am taken to a download page for ZENM_PCAPP_LB_MTP_PDE.exe. This contains different versions than the previous page said that it would:
    Zen Micro Media Explorer 4.00.27
    Sync Manager 4.60.0
    Import Wizard .60.2
    CD Ripping Wizard .60.09
So which is correct? With all the firmware upgrade problems I see, I sure want to make sure ahead of time that I am downloading and installing the correct files.
A call yesterday to Creative got me less help than my 2 year old could provide!
    Thanks.Message Edited by J-Mac on 0-09-2005 :39 PM

Choose Support > Downloads from your local Creative site's main menu, then follow the instructions. Or you can use the international site, http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers/ . You're looking for the ..0 firmware download--not ZMME, MediaSource, or anything else.
What you were directed to is indeed the newest versions--but of Creative software, not the firmware itself. The tutorial you went through is more aimed at those upgrading to 2.x (MTP/Janus) firmware; they have to replace their ZMME, install a new MediaSource plug-in, and make other changes to their Creative software when upgrading.
Changing firmware from .02.05 to ..0 should not require new Creative software; indeed, it's one of the easiest firmware upgrades possible for the Micro. Most Micro upgrade issues you see here involve those who switch to 2.x firmware, but fail to download the required Creative software upgrades. You probably won't even lose your music files (which would happen if you chose 2.x firmware).

  • Windows Vista vs Zen Micro: Software Problems

    Hey guys,
Looking for a little help and this seems to be the right place to get, lots of helpful people!I have a 3 year old Zen Micro, 4/5Gb I think and it worked fine with my old Dell laptop which ran XP, I used to drag and drop mpg files easily with the bundled software, all was well. Back in January the Dell laptop reached the end of it's life and I layed my hands on a new Sony Vaio laptop, running the all singing, all dancing brand new shiney Windows Vista. For whatever reason, I had no need for the MP3 player for most of this this summer and now I've come to need it again and it obviously needs updating (all my music is 6 months out of date) and it seems I've lost the original software disc, bummer. So I downloaded the ZenCast Organiser & Sync software off the Creative site as it said it ran withVista and plug in the Micro and .........nothing.
The Sync manager thing just says that there's no player attatched and it won't hook up. Am I missing something? Do I need another driver for it'sor something I've had a look through this site and all. I seem to be able to find is what I've already downloaded. Help!

    MiniMan64 wrote:
ow stupid is this though! Why aren't Creative releasing any updates to allow older players to work on new machines?!
Well they are releasing updates, the trouble is you need the old OS to apply them. I suspect there's technical reasons for updates not working on newer OS's. After all Creative couldn't anticipate Vista problems when making older devices (Vista wouldn't have been on hand to test at the time).
BTW Firmware upgrades can be found here (UK version)
    or here. (US)

  • Upgrading Zen Micro Firmwa

if I upgrade the Zen Micro to the NEWEST available firmware...will I still be able to use Zen Micro Media Explorer? I love the program..
the new firmware uses WMP, am I right? anyone use WMP as the main software for putting songs on your player, etc. Is it better?

There is a latest MTP firmware and a latest non-MTP firmware. Note that for MTP firmware, if you view the tracks in your Zen Micro on the PC, you will see that the track organization is by folders, just like the way files are organized in your PC. For non-MTP firmware, you will see that the track organization is by library.
There is also a MTP version of the latest Zen Micro Media Explorer and a MTP version oif the latest Creative MediaSource for download.

  • Zen Micro Software Requi

I lost my software cd, I realize that you can download the files from the downloads section of the website. Which exact files should I donwload and in what order do I install them? I need specifics.

fizban9: Don't forget the drivers as well.
Basically you want to install the drivers first, currently <EM>Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03</EM>.
Then you want to install MediaSource, but you'll need to connect your player first as MediaSource will want it as part of the install. For MediaSource the latest version is <EM>Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2</EM>. Once that's installed you'll also need the plugin, to make sure the PC can see your player, <EM>Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource</EM>.
As mentioned, if you want the CD burning facilities you need <EM>Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8.</EM> I'm not sure if this works without a previous install, but Micromouse should be able to confirm this.
If you are using the v2 MTP firmware you also need this update, <EM>Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)</EM>.
If you want Zen Micro Media Explorer then you need to grab the <EM>Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update</EM>.
    So in summary:
. Drivers - <EM>Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03</EM>
    2. MediaSource - <EM>Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2, Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource, Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 </EM>and <EM>Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) </EM>if you have the v2 firmware.
    3. ZMME - <EM>Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update</EM>

  • I'm confused with Zen Micro firmw

Ok, first of all, I know this has probably been asked before, but I looked through the FAQ and searched the forum, and still didn't find what I was looking for.
What am I looking for? I'm not really sure, to be honest, but I guess I want to know if I should upgrade my firmware. I'd simply like to find some info about all the firmware versions. I have no need for fancy features or "PlaysForSure" (I'm confused about PlaysForSure too, but nevermind). I just want my player to connect to my PC, transfer some songs (I don't mind it being through Zen Micro Media Explorer, it's totally fine by me), and then play my songs for me.
I also read something about power issues, but it's all very confusing. I remember seeing some post about a patch making it even worse or something, back a few months ago when I was deciding which player to buy. That's why I'm a bit sceptical about this upgrade, and want it done right.
So.. That's about it. Which firmware should I use if I just want to fix problems that are there now? I'm currently using the default firmware version my player was bought with; .0.03.
(Oh, and I'm assuming that the fact that my Zen Micro was bought in Sweden does not matter. It's more convenient to buy it in the country I li've in =P)

question... I'm bit confused about the firmware also. I heard that there was a 2.(or somthing like that) and a . firmware for zen Micros. I'm currently using the . firmware for my Zen Micro. What is the difference between the 2. and . firmware? Or is there even a 2. firmware version? I ask because i keep hearing about a 2. firmware version for Zen Micro, is it true?

  • Petition to upgrade Zen Micro Photo to view pictures and play music at the same t

As you all are aware the iPod Nano faces off with zen Microphoto. Even though it isn't yet available at Creative.us and after waiting almost a year, I just had to grab one from Best Buy that sold out. I purchased it because of the huge 8GB harddri've, FM stereo receiver (that's how I get to know about new songs) and color photo capabilities. Unfortunately, everytime I try to watch a photo or play a slideshow, the music cuts off without warning and my bright and shiny player isn't a MP3 player anymore. Please, everyone, WRITE CREATIVE via Email and ask them to upgrade the firmware and software to stop turning off the music whenever we play photos. If the iPod Nano can do it... shouldn't the Zen MicroPhoto be able to do it also?Imagine not being able to play your sport team's music while you view your sports picture while you were playing ball. Imagine not hearing your wedding song while you view your wedding photos?Imagine not hearing your graduation song while you look back at your graduation pictures? How very horrible! Please petition Creative to fix this grave injustice please!Thank you ladies and gentlemen!Message Edited by Catherina-CL on 0-7-2005 0:33 PM

So, what you're saying is the iPod uses superior hardware components because they play images and music at the same time, even in the itty bitty Nano. Also, the iPod is able to "shuffle" photos so that you don't get bored seeing the same photos over and over again as in sequential mode.
There are a few players that do support music and photos... some will only limit one song per slideshow.
Furthermore, if you check the Zen Vision manual, creative's newest MP3 multimedia player... it does NOT support photos and music at the same time either.
In my opionion, it's a software issue, like I said, it displays only one image (background) during music play - if it couldn't, it would have shut off the image too. It's not that they CUT OUT creative features, but that they didn't write the software to allow the ZMP to "play" photos and music at the same time.
I mean, you can buy a PC for less than a ZMP and it can run several applications showing music and photo and videos at the same time.
I wouldn't buy the zen micro for nothing... there's just something special about having a color screen. I mean, who buys black & white TV these days?
With X-fi, I'm restoring my MP3 to higher quality, I'm sure the 8GB will come in handy as these filesize will only increase. And I got it because I'm hearing more and more music on the radio that I want to have... so my collection will only increase. I have over ,200MP3 at 320K which stood at 6.5GB.
As for you, consider that you're paying an extra $20 for 2 more GB and a 256K color display. It's well worth it over a 6GB monochrome MP3 player.

  • Zen Micro Media Explorer not working

Recently I purchased a new PC. winxp. My zen worked just fine on my old PC. I installed my zen and the media explorer. When I launch the Zen Micro Media Explorer everything is grayed out. I cant click on anything. Windows media explorer shows my zen, but the Zen Micro Media Explorer is just all gray. I have FW version .3. I figued I would upgrade the FW and when I try upgading, it says the zen is not plugged in. I need to edit my playlists and I cant get into the media explorer. help!

I'm having exactly the same problem with my Creative Zen Touch 40 gB - a couple of months ago I had to re-instal windows and manage to re-install MediaSource and all the Audigy and Creative Zen drivers and they all worked together nicely. I've now upgraded the motherboard and processor, re-installed windows and cannot get mediasource to see my device. I've tried intslling the plays-for-sure software suite and it says it can't see my device and to check that the firmware is updated to PFS devices, which it is. I've tried the updated drivers, updated mediasource, uninstalled the device and re-installed it and nothing works. I'm running Windows XP Professional which has been updated with all the critical updates and also runs Media PLayer .
I know this doesn't help the previous poster, but if anyone else can help, that'd be fab.

  • Creative Zen Micro Software Iss

I've had my Creative Zen Micro for almost a year now, and I installed the software on my computer. But a couple weeks ago, my family bought a new computer. I've lost the cd to install the zen organizer and I was wondering what I could do?
Am I out of luck? Or is there software I can download to get it on the new computer.

  • IBM T30 XP USB error with Zen Micro. Does not recognize dev

I've tried everything I can think of on this board and others. Zen Micro, IBM T30 laptop, 2 usb ports on back, Windows XP. Downloaded latest everything I can find. USB does not recognize device. Error report shows "USB Root Hub (2 ports) ---> Unknown Device"
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Tried one last thing, just for grins...
Put the IBM into it's docking station, which has another USB on the dock (low speed, though), and voila! It worked! Go figure what's different but since it was working, I took that opportunity to blow in the new firmware, and also upgraded to ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_LB_2__02 to get away from drivers all together (and to use Napster2go, my ultimate goal through all of this!) Syncing with MP0 worked great. Even an explorer view with folders and such, so all is well.
Since everything seems to be working, I'll stick with it for now!
Can I now delete Zen Micro Media Explorer from my system? (it doesn't seem to recognize the device anyway)
    Thanks!

  • Problem with Creative Zen Micro software detecting certain C

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me. I recently purchased a Creative Zen Micro MP3 player. So far, I have very few complaints, apart from the fact that while travelling on the bus, it won't seem to detect any radio stations.
The problem re: the software though is that it will only detect the last track on three of my CD's. None of these CD's are damaged in any way, but all are from the same record label. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how I might be able to transfer these albums onto my player?
    Thanks a lot.

    My zen micro problem:
Brief Problem description :.When I put a battery in the Zen micro, it automaticly turn on andshow "hardware problem" and freezed.2. If I connect to power adapter, i it automaticly turn on and show"hardware problem" and freezed.3. If I connect to my computer via usb cable, my computer can not findthe player and the player do not turn on even I switch on. As long asI put the battery in it, it automaticly turn on and show "hardwareproblem" and freezed. My computer still can not find it. I'm sure thecomputer and usb cable is working because all of my other device isworking ( include mouse, keyboard, logitech web camera, canon digitalcamera, samsung 52MB mp3). I try to take off all of theother usb equipements and the zen micro still not work. I can not rewrite the firmware because the zen micro freezed at"hardware problem" and my computer can not find it.
