Confused with created Recovery disks

I had to make up the 2 recovery disks as stated in the handbook and I had to use them this morning, but I only had to use 1 so why create 2 and do you have to use the the 2nd one at all.
I thought the computer would go back to 64bit as pre-installed but when I checked it was only 32bit.

You can use second one if asked.
I don't know which notebook model do you have but if it was offered with 32 and 64bit OS I can imagine by recovery creation 2 discs were created for both versions.
When you start recovery procedure with disc1 is there option to choose between 32 and 64bit OS?

  • How to create recovery disks for Lenovo H530s with WIndows 8.1

    Hello there,
    I just purchased a Lenovo Hf30s type 10131 with Windows 8.1, mini tower: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-h-series-desktops/lenovo-h5...
I like to create recovery disks, but  the already installed program OneKey Recovery does not have the option of recovery disks, it allows only larger media such as USB stick and hard disks.
Here to I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there a way to create a recovery disks that will create the original factory settings with 5 partitions?
    2. Does any one knows if the recovery siskd sold by Lenovo (for Netherlands they cost between 23 and 38 Euro) would do the job by creating the factory settings with 5 partitions?
My goal is to reformat the hard disk and aprtitionig it the way I need it, but in case of anything, I would like to be able to go back to the original facttory state of the unit, especially if I have a harddisk failure and neer to replace the hard didks.
Thank you in advance and I wish you a very pleasant and successful day.

  • Do user-created recovery disks work with replacement HDD of different capacity?

The original Seagate 250GB SATA HDD in my Pavilion G60-214EM notebook has completely failed (BIOS and other Windows machines cannot even see it). I replaced it with a Samsung 160GB SATA HDD but Recovery Manager on my user-created (DVD-R) recovery disk consistently fails at 2% of "Reformatting  the Windows partition of your hard disk drive". If I look at the resulting partitions from another machine I see a 10.61 GB NTFS 'RECOVERY' partition, an empty active primary NTFS partition of 37.12 GB and 101.31 GB still unallocated.
Should the user-created recovery disks work if the replacement disk drive is smaller capacity than the original?
Should they work with a larger capacity replacement drive?
If not, can HP provide recovery disks that will work with a different capacity HDD?
    Thanks,
    --A

Hi, I am the same predicament as you are From my experience thus far, the replacement disk drive space needs to be bigger or equal to the original HD space. (e.g.. I had a 640 gb OEM HD, I cannot install or factory reset the new 500 gb WD HD because it says its too small...)
As for question 2, I am going to try to get a 1TB hard drive, though I don't know due to the prices and such. Will post back if I do.
Question 3: I do not know, someone else may be more knowledgeable:/
    Hope this helps!

  • Cannot create recovery disk after update to Win 8.1 on G580

    Friends
I have a Lenovo G580 that came with Win 8.0 preinstalled. I upgraded it to Win 8.1 over the Internet.
When I try to run the "Create recovery disk" I get the error that states that "We cannot create a recovery drive for this PC. Some required files are missing..."
I found out that the winre.wim file that is supposed to be in the C:\Windows\System32\Recovery folder is not there. I cannot locate it anywhere on the C or D drives either. I believe there is a copy on one or more of the recovery partitions but I do not know how to get that file from those partitons.
I am confused as to why there are seven partitions on that one drive:
    1 Recovery partition 1000 MB
2 EFI system partition 260 MB
    3 OEM partition 1000 MB
    4. Recovery partition 350 MB
    5. Recovery partition 20 GB
    6. Lenovo D: 25 GB
    7. Windows 8 C: 250 GB
Can someone help me and give me some instructions on how I can fix the system to find the winre.wim file?
    Thanks for any good input.
    Calle

    Hi Calle,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that the error message is displayed in your G580 Laptop, as the OS (Operating System) installed is Windows 8.1 or Windows 8. Recovery discs cannot be created only a “Recovery Media” can be created using USB Flash drive, below is the link to create USB recovery drive.
    Create a USB Recovery Drive
Do post us back if the issue persists.

  • How to create recovery disk on HP envy dv6 7258nr notebook pc - window 8

I m trying to create recovery disk from recovery drive which is created by hp while purchasing the laptop, while taking back up from recovery manager, Recovery Manager says   (Recovery Partition has been removed - Recovery Media creation option is no longer available) , but as per my knowledge i did not took back up of recovery drive. So what should i do to take back up of my recovery drive to **bleep**.

Based on what you have stated, it appears that you or someone else with access to your notebook deleted the recovery partition. Without the recovery partition on the hard disk you can't make recovery media.
Your best option at this point would be to purchase a recovery disk set from HP or an HP Partner.

  • HT4848 Error creating recovery disk in Disk Assist

I've carefully followed all instruction in this post: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4848, but I am having an error when creating the recovery disk.
The recovery Disk Assist starts creating it, but stops early on. The message I get is titled "Conclusion," and it says "The recovery drive wasn't created. There was an error creating recovery disk."
Can anyone help me with this? I followed all the steps in the post above and I also created the partition on the external drive.
I really need to wipe out my computer and make it appear "as new" because I am selling it. Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

Same happened to me.  This makes absolutely no sense, but I just kept trying and trying then it finally worked.  For me, it hasn't been worth the bother.  These restore DVDs don't work like the ones I made for an Acer laptop, for example.  On my Acer, I repartitioned, reformatted my drive and was easily able to restore my computer before I sold it.  I've been going nuts trying to restore my computer after a clean install of Windows 7.  Still can't get it to work.

  • 0X4001100200001012 error with windows recovery disk

For quite some time (over a year), I've been seeing chat about this error when attempting to make recovery disks on Dell machines. Basically, a recovery disk made in windows 7 starts to boot, when tested, but then gets to what looks like the blue background
for a normal startup screen and shows an error code  0X4001100200001012 error.
Invariably, someone trots out advice about burning disks slower or running a file error check. Neither of these work. Some believe that the error has something to do with the Dell recover partition that all Dells ship with.
If one boots with the windows 7 install disk, all goes well, and one can recover an image file, so it is definitely some sort of error introduced at the windows 7 recover disk creation process.
I have seen this problem with 2, different model, Dells. An HP does not have the problem. Its recovery disks work fine. All three machines are running different versions of windows 7 64.
Do you have any insights into what is causing this error, and whether it can be remedies or if Dell owners just have to live with it? Calling Dell technical support is...well, lets just say that life is too short.

    Hi,
According to your description, it indicates you have a problem with your recovery disk. It may be caused by recover disk creation process.
You could refer to the similar thread; maybe they can give you some hits:
