Confused with multiple Library's.

I Have two Ipods, the older on is a 30GB classic and the new one is the 32GB iPod touch...I'm giving my wife the classic, tonight I have being reading here about how to create a new library for her without creating a new account.
Things were going fine I did the hold down shift and created the new library and the classic was erased so now she can put her music on it.
Now when I plugged hers out and the plugged mine in I got this warning....
"This iPod is synced with another library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this library.
An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this library"
What have I done, all the music I have on the iTouch is still there except I DO NOT see it on the iTunes....so if I click "erase and sync" I will lose it all?...
Why is my content not showing in the library when it is there in my iPod even after I sync?
I did something wrong I fear.
Any help appreciated.

*Can I find my old library*
Hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one then open them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • Does the VLM get confused with multiple IPs?

    My laptop can have one IP when I'm connected to the wired LAN in my office, several different IPs when I'm at and about within my company's wireless network, and yet several different IPs when I login over the VPN.
    Does the Volume License Manager get confused by registering the machine I checked a LabVIEW license from, then lose connection and/or reconnect under another IP, close LabVIEW, and doesn't release the license?
    Right now I can see that I still have one license checked out under my laptop's name, even though LabVIEW no longer is running.
    Starting LabVIEW on the laptop and exiting does not release the license.  Starting LabVIEW and looking at the in use licenses, still shows a network checkout from an earlier time.
    This doesn't seem right to me.

    Could you please repost your issue on the VLM Board: http://forums.ni.com/t5/Volume-License-Manager-and/bd-p/410

  • Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?

    Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?
    note: one library universally shared, not Home Sharing (one library each, shared to each.)
    I want to share one library stores on my server and access it through various local computers. When I buy a song from a computer (non-server), I want it to be added to the library (stored on server). I want it to auto copy to my server, for organization. I want to be able to sync my phone from any computer.
    Most of this I can do, if i figure out how to use one universal library for all my computers.
    Any ideas how I can do this?

    eyeinit,
    You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
    However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:

  • Itunes Library sharing with multiple ipods and 2 pc's

    Hi, I have a new Ipod nano and want to use my wifes itunes library with my ipod. Which according to the tech stuff I can share the content by enabling on wifes pc. Done that, which I can now see library on my Acer laptop. However, I can't sync my playlist from her pc to my itunes. I want to download my own podcasts etc.. not clutter her itunes pc. When I transfer the ipod back to my pc it then wants to delete and re-sync.
    We have 3 ipods in the house and 2 pc's.
    Whats the best way of using the ipods and getting the most out of itunes?
    Thanks

    If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

    Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
    Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • I would like to use one library but with multiple ipods, but because they are my kids Ipods, and they each have their own gift cards, I'd like to be able to add money to their "profiles" without them having their own account - what is the best way

    So here is my delima - I want one Ipod account - because I only want one library - since we all like the same music - but my kids, who have their own IPODS, have gift cards, who want to be able to keep track of their balance without the other child affecting the balance - meaning - each gift card should be seperate and not totalled to the single account - Beacuse the library is fairly large, having three libraries of large amounts would be a waste.  I would also like to restrict their purchased to the gift cards only and not my credit card on file.  Does this make sense?  Once this is resolved, I'm assuming they would use their own playlists to copy their favorites to each Ipod.  Or would I set up an account for each child - which I dont want to do, because I dont want them having access to my Credit Card, and only gift card balances.  With multiple accounts, I'm assuming that would also build seperate libraries?  We also have multiple computers, but I share the library to those computers -
    What is the best way?  I'd like to be able to add credit to a specific child (birthdays, etc) without the other child being able to access that credit.  For simplicity sake.
    We are new to IPODS and lack any MAC skills.
    Thoughts?

    Not going to happen the way you want it to.
    When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
    Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.

  • Sharing an iPhoto Library over an external drive with multiple Macs

    I have a library of photos that is around 30 GB. All of the photos are already on an external drive, which is accessed through Xserve, and I have begun creating an iPhoto library on that same external drive. I have seen mixed opinions on whether or not an iPhoto library is able to be shared with multiple users (we have about 6 other Macs that we want to have full access to this). Unfortunately, none of us are on the same iPhoto version, so we have not been able to test this out yet, as they have been incompatible with each other so far. Is this something that is possible?

    1 - sharing in a very limited sense is possiible -  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198  -  IF and only if all versions of iPhoto that will access it are the same version
    2 - since you have different versions of iPhoto on different systems you can not share amoung them - only amoung ssytems using the same version of software
    3 - I have no idea what XDrive is - but note tha tthe iPhoto library must always be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and should be on a drive that is directly connected with a wired connection

  • CDs with multiple artists are added to the library multiple times I want to be able to add the artwork to all.

    CDs with multiple artists are added to the library multiple times. Usually one has the artwork. I want to add the artwork to the others.  The instructions are inaccurate. I tried it several ways and it does not work.  How do I add the artwork shown on one of the albums to the other albums (same album, different artists)?

    Try Ethernet over Power adapters.. these are very popular for your kind of environment.. being able to make non-wireless link to another area where you can setup a wireless access point.
    Airport Express are not great for wireless power.. if you really have issues with wireless strength in a bad environment apple stuff is not the way to go.
    The comparison chart here.
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/bar/58-2_4-ghz-dn?see=P_F
    This is their worst test location you can also see averages.. the latest airport extreme.. is there a long way down.. and that is a much better wireless device than Airport Express.
    The Ubiquiti power AP is small cheap and designed for precisely this duty.. useless in an apple wireless network.. you will need to run ethernet or EOP adapters back to the main router.. but if the normal omni directional antennas don't provide enough signal you can get directional ones.. I suspect you can cover your whole apartment with a pair of these and high gain directional antenna.

  • Managing iPhoto Library with multiple accounts

    I want to share my iphoto library with multiple user accounts on the same machine. Any suggestions how to do this so when new photos / events are added & created they are accessible to all?
    Thank you.

    I have another question, do you know anything about using the "referenced library" approach instead? Would this work better?
    When you use a Referenced Library you are responsible for file management of your photos, not iPhoto. So when you say "work better", what do you mean?
    How to do it:
    Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    What Happens:
    Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    Some things to consider:
    There are a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    My own opinion:
    I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
    If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 and later*
    You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and later* ...
    Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    *If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
    For users of 10.6 and later:
    You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    For Users of 10.4 and later:
    Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Document library view: Group by a column with multiple values

    I have a document library which has a managed metadata column.
    I would like to create a view which groups the documents by this managed metadata column.
    The managed metadata column can have multiple values.
    I know that this is not possible with SharePoint's group by, since it only accepts those columns which can have only one single value.
    But is this possible to accomplish by some other means, e.g. Content query web part? Or is there perhaps a 3rd party solution to this?
    Is it possible to change the group by settings somehow to allow Group by to function with columns with multiple values? <- this may be far fetched...

    Hi Pekch,
    I'm assuming you have VS2010 to build the custom web part. From there you will need to figure out the following:
    Get a SPList object for the Document Library (See below for code example)
    Loop through all the documents in the SPList object
    If you have audience targetting enabled, then you'll need to determine if the user has access to the document by checking the "Target_x0020_Audiences" column)
    As you also want to group by metadata, you'll need to populate 2 datatables (one table with a column containing unique metadata values and another table with a metadata column and other document related columns).  Link these two tables via a dataset
    relation.
    Set the dataset as the datasource for a repeater, add in some css and javascript for the group expand/collaspe and it should be close to what you need.
    This will be a time consuming task if you don't know where to start or have problems figuring out how to perform a certain operation.  So you may want to determine if the functionality you want is required or just a "nice to have".  Good
    luck and if I have some spare time, I'll create a blog post outlining how to do all the above.
    I got the below code from a sharepoint blog sometime in the past and you can use it to retrieve a list.
    You can use it like this: GetListByUrl(http://servername/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx)
    using    Microsoft.SharePoint;
    public SPList GetListByUrl(string listURL)
    SPList list = null;
    try
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite(listURL))
    if (site != null)
    // Strip off the site url, leaving the rest
    // We'll use this to open the web
    string webUrl = listURL.Substring(site.Url.Length);
    // Strip off anything after /forms/
    int formsPos = webUrl.IndexOf("/forms/", 0, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase);
    if (formsPos >= 0)
    webUrl = webUrl.Substring(0, webUrl.LastIndexOf('/', formsPos));
    // Strip off anything after /lists/
    int listPos = webUrl.IndexOf("/lists/", 0, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase);
    if (listPos >= 0)
    // Must be a custom list
    // Strip off anything after /lists/
    webUrl = webUrl.Substring(0, webUrl.LastIndexOf('/', listPos));
    else
    // No lists, must be a document library.
    // Strip off the document library name
    webUrl = webUrl.Substring(0, webUrl.LastIndexOf('/'));
    // Get the web site
    using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(webUrl))
    if (web != null)
    // Initialize the web (avoids COM exceptions)
    string title = web.Title;
    // Strip off the relative list Url
    // Form the full path to the list
    //string relativelistURL = listURL.Substring(web.Url.Length);
    //string url = SPUrlUtility.CombineUrl(web.Url, relativelistURL);
    // Get the list
    list = web.GetList(listURL);
    catch { }
    return list;

  • Using Content Query webpart for specific Document library with multiple managed metadata - Document with multiple metadata tags not showing up

    Hi,
    I am having an issue where when I insert a Content Query webpart into a page, and filter to managed metadata, all the right documents show up except one document that happens to have two metadata tags attached to it.  The content query webpart is set
    to only look through a specific document library.  I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
    Here is the one document with two metadata tags:
    Below is the Content Query:

    Hi,
    As I understand, you did not get the results with multiple metadata tags through Content Query web part in SharePoint 2013.
    Check things below:
    1. Check if you have set the item limit more than the display items in Presentation section of the web part. If the item number more than item limit, the rest items will not show.
    2. Check if the item you cannot find uses the content type you have set in the content type section of content query web part.
    When you edit the properties of the item, you will see the content type the item is using.
    Best regards

  • How to share account with multiple devices?

    3 kids with 3 devices - an iPod Touch and two iPads Mini - family shares one account with Apple/iTunes and one library on our family PC.  They use FACETIME and MESSAGES with their friends, and they all see each others messages and conversations.  How do I fix this?  Is there a setting or a way to create sub-accounts off the family account so they can still share the main library for music and video OR do I have to create separate Apple/iTunes accounts for each kid?  Is there a setting on their devices that can help?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'm not even sure the right question to ask...

  • ITunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users - how?

    iTunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users?
    I am very confused on what is the best way to handle this setup for my friends family.  Any help would be appreciated.  Sorry in advance as I know this is a long winded post - I have a feeling this will help others faced with the same issues or questions.
    CURRENT SETUP
    I have three new Windows 7 machines networked (two desktops and one laptop) that have four users on each - as busy family with children who need the computers for homework, projects, games, etc...  The goal of this setup is that any user can log onto any computer and have there documents available to them no matter computer was free to use.  I set this up using the library function in Windows 7 and seems to work pretty well.
    I have put a Buffalo Linkstation NAS on the system as well.  This was going to serve two purposes 1)  run some backup software to protect the computers and 2) consolidate the iTunes content in one place for all users.  There is also an iPad in the home that I should would be better served by accessing the content on the NAS without requiring any of the computers being on.  Dave is thinking about getting some other playback devices like Apple TV so thought a NAS would be a good way to go.
    CURRENT ITUNES SETUP - I have created a new iTunes library on the NAS by holding the SHIFT button down while starting iTunes and pointed to that folder on a Share on the NAS.  There was no music on the system at the time as we are planning to copy this over from an OLD machine that is now not being used.  I have also authorized all the computers and turned on the home sharing feature (although I am not sure what good that does).
    This “shift” button trick seesm to also point the default directory there without point to it in the advanced setup tab of iTunes.
    I then synced one of the iPods with purchased content on it and synced that to the library after asking me to do so before an update.  All the content showed up in the library and was playable - awesome.
    I then logged into each user on each machine (yikes) and installed iTunes  and used the “shift” trick to connect each users iTunes to the database on the NAS.  Everything seems to work - but I have not tested it thoroughly.
    SUMMARY
    3 new Windwos 7 networked machines
    4 identical users on each machine
    1 TB Buffalo linkstation
    iTunes setup with the folder on a SHARE
    all user’s itunes connected to the iTunes folder on the NAS
    all computers authorized with home sharing turned on.
    one iTunes user account signed in on each machine
    multiple iPods and one iPad in the system
    QUESTIONS/CONCERNS
    Is there a better way to do this on a NAS?
    Would home sharing be better in some way?
    I understand the NAS should show up under the shared section in iTunes - I assume that would mean that would mean each user has an iTunes library on their documents?
    I have read that there may be corruption issues if users on the different machines try to access iTunes at the same time.
    Will there be any issues syncing that various iPods with?
    Ugh - sorry for the long post and all the questions.  I am just trying to find the best way to do this.  I wish Apple would put out a best practices document for setups like this.  Thanks in advance.

    This is a user to user support forum. Your fellow users can offer solutions or workarounds based on their experience with the application. If you think it should work differently drop a line to iTunes Feedback.
    For reasons unknown Apple haven't chosen to allow iTunes to be suspended in one profile and active in another. My recollection is that this applies even if each profile has a different library, although it is some time since I've committed a personal test.
    I'm not sure why my suggestion make less sense that your current approach?. As I understand it currently everybody is either signed into their own account when they can do something other than work with iTunes, or they sign into the special iTunes account where they can't access any of their other stuff. You don't have to disable fast user switching. Follow exactly the same steps, but make sure everyone closes iTunes before turning the computer over to another user. Disabling fast user switching helps to enforce that action.
