Confused with optimum size and publishing

It seems like it should be a fairly straightforward process to select a project size at the start of a Captivate project and then publish at the end and watching Adobe videos saying how easy it all is now to publish across platforms with HTML5 etc you would think so.
When I started my current project I selected 1024 x 768 as I have a large main screen, plus two smaller screens here at work. When I went to publish, I selected both swf and HTML5 and selected scalable HTML content. I then saved the .htm file to my web folder here at work and then viewed the new link. My default web browser is Firefox and I was horrified to see the movie appear as a tiny postage stamp size on the screen. Also when I tried it on my smartphone, clicking on the buttons caused the slides to jump too far ahead.
I then decided to re-save my project and re-size it to iPad landscape. I then published two different versions, the original 1024 x 768 version as swf with scalable HTML content and a second re-sized iPad version as HTML5 with no scalable HTML. Both versions worked fine on either pc (scaling nicely for the different sized screens I have) and also worked fine on my smartphone. However, in Firefox I still got the postage stamp sized movie.
I am now trying a new re-sized project as 995 x 627 and my intention is not to use scalable HTML content and publish it to both swf and HTML5 and see how that looks on everything.
My question  is if you were tasked to create a Captivate project that needs to look great on pcs, laptops, tablets and smartphones without having to use scroll bars to view all the content on each page, firstly what size would you choose for your project and which settings would you use when publishing (i.e. would you select scalable HTML)?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all (no pun intended) size for Captivate trainings that will look perfect on multiple devices. If you need to have the training viewable on multiple devices then you should use the scalable options when publishing. Without scaling you’ll end up with scrollbars on devices that use varying resolutions and can’t fit all the content onscreen. The only way not making content scalable would be possible is if Captivate had a device aware function that allows the content to fit the screen, like you can code in Dreamweaver, but that would seriously increase your development time.
The Firefox problem has to do with a bit of code that Captivate uses in the html templates. Open the html file that’s generated with your published files and remove the text "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd" from the first line. Then when the file is opened in Firefox it won’t display the content really tiny. You can also remove this from your template files so it’s never included when you publish.

  • I am confused with optimum Pixel sizes?

    For instance
When placing photos in the web for sale and to avoid having these "stolen" what is the best pixel size AND
for showing images of varying size (some heavily cropped) on a large classroom screen without looking like a pratt what would be the optimal pixel size
Next I'll have to find out where in Photoshop ELements I can do this as Ive only just downloaded the trial
    Help

Generally I use something like 900 x 600 for the web. If you use Expert Mode:
    File >> Save For Web
The image will be optimized. Select jpeg and medium quality. That should keep the file size under 100k, which is ideal for web site viewing with fast downloads. You can compare the potential file size by looking at the optimized preview window alongside the original size.
If anyone downloads such an image only a very small quality print could be made e.g. 3 inches by 2 inches at 300 ppi.
For projection or viewing on a large wide screen something like 2000 x 1333 at 72ppi usually works well.
It really depends on the original aspect ratio. Mine are all 3:2, hence the dimensions above, but cameras differ so use the measurements for the long edge as a guide.

  • Issue with slideshow size and buttons.

I am having issues with the spry image slideshow  with filmstrip.   I can not figure out why the buttons disappeared.  When I was installing the slideshow to the site I am pretty sure I only changed the size so that it would fit the page.  Once I got that figured out I noticed the buttons where no longer there.  Also the arrows for the thumbnail pictures would not work.  I was able to make some adjustments to get the arrows to work with thumbnails.  Still having problems with the play and next and previous buttons. They are not visible.  Any help would be appreciated.  The site is http://abbeyhelpsbrokenhearts.com/story.html
I have created a brand new page to test in dreamweaver.  If I change the size of the width it puts a white box below the slideshow with the buttons below.

    hiya
well , you are certainly getting some really good help now...its like you fell into a room with the best editors and shooters and everything and you can get a lot of information and run with it...find out a lot of things.
Some of it requires you follow through on your own as much as possible ( like you have already ) by reading and googling things you dont know, etc...  this forum and these guys is how I learned a lot about this stuff in the past year or so...so listen to what they say....google what you dont understand....you cant go wrong.
    now...about what you said...
I exported the test clip as  an MPEG2-DVD and it gave me a video file with NO SOUND, a separate WAV  sound file, and two xmp files. This is not what I was looking for.
I have a movie project on  Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I simply want to export/publish the movie, burn  it onto a DVD using Windows DVD maker and have it as top quality, like  it looks in the preview monitor on Premiere. Tell me how to do it.---
I dont use encore to burn a dvd, but use DVDit PRO.  It wants exactly what you got when you exported to mpeg 2 dvd ....a video file without sound muxed.. and a separate wav file....
I know it sounds weird but thats the way the program burns the DVD....and that has to do with making the VOB files etc for the DVD...which is just the way it is....you see the vob files AFTER you burn the DVD if you look in the DVD...
anyway, mpeg 2, mpeg 4, all that highly compressed stuff ( as you said ) is highly compressed to FIT onto the media ( DVD ) or whatever....but it plays good and it looks good...and has NOTHING to do with anything except squishing stuff down to fit the media and looking ( viewing ) GOOD.  the best movie you ever saw on DVD is mpeg 2 .....  turned into vob in the making of the DVD by the software that makes the DVD.
all these things are different animals ...what you edit , what you deliver, etc ....

  • Planned order with Lot size and Planning Calendar in MRP

    Hi All
I request your help in understanding MRP results in below mentioned scenario:
    Material: A
    Planning Calendar: D1 (Monday only)
    MRP Type: PD
Lot size: Z1 (this is copy of PK with Period Start = Start Date)
    Safety Days Time: 3

I am executing MRP on 7.04.11
As shown above the, can you please explain why the planned order is on Wed 12th and it covers 5 days requirement and similarly Tuesday 19th and covers 6 days.
I am not able to relate the relation between Planning calendar and Lot size procedure used. Also what would happen if I make planning calendar valid for two days in a week.
    Thanks in advance
    Rahul

    Thanks dear
Yes you are right the Planning Calendar starts 18.4.11 and ends 24.4.11
Now as far as first planned order is concerned I thought it should be scheduled to start&end  on Monday 11.04.11, rather it starts&ends on Tuesday 12.4.11. Also the actual coverage days goes up to 5 days even though its maintained for 3 days.
Similarly the second planned order also comes up on Tuesday 19.04.11 and covers 6 days (more than the setting and planning Calendar of only Monday)
On the whole this is confusing me on Lot size and Planning Calendar relation and how it impacts MRP. Can you please help me on this.
Also if you can throw some details on: how to restrict MRP to give planned order only on, say, Monday and Thursday, as only then it could be produced.
    Thanks in advance

  • Difference between syncing iCal with .me Calendar and publishing my iCal

    Hi everyone,
This is probably kind of simple for most, but I'm actually just learning about iCal and how I can centralize my calendars in iCal on Calendar at .mac (or .me I guess). The Help section doesn't really address the confusion I have. So thanks for any insight you can share.
    1. What is the difference between syncing my iCal with Calendar and publishing my iCal to .me?
    2. I just added a new event to iCal. Then I clicked on a sync button (via the sidebar of my local iDisk). But when I checked Calendar, that new event wasn't there. Does anyone know why and then what to do to make it appear?
    3. When/If I add a new event while I'm at Calendar, how do I make sure it appears on my iCal? Do I follow the same local iDisk sync routine?
    4. Can my 2 friends and I log on to my account at the same time to view my Calendar while we're all on our laptops.
    Thanks a lot you guys.

Ok, I wonder if you could help me with a similar but different problem. I have been using iCal now for awhile but only recently started using Google Calendars (once I found out they could both be synced together). Anyway, I understand how to set up the sync, it's very simple especially following the link that you already provided. But, I have three calendars for personal, school, and work already in iCal that are in the default group that iCal starts with of "calendars".
Anyway, when you create a new account in iCal to set up the syncing, it creates a whole new calendar group. I had never had an "account" before, so all my three main calendars are separate from this new account. Is there anyway to move or duplicate those calendars into my new calendar group so that I can have one flowing set of synced information between google and iCal without manually retyping all of the information myself? I have tried dragging the calendars down into the other group and all you can do is reorder them within the group they're already in. Even a duplication would work, if that is possible (to duplicate a whole calendar).
Any insight from anyone would be incredibly helpful.
    Thanks a ton,
    Zac

  • Urgent issue with video size and quality.

Ok, I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I am running on Windows 7 64bit. I have a movie that I have been working on for 2 years that already has hundreds of proper LightScribe DVD's, slim cases and printed cover wraps already done and paid for. I was supposed to already be done with this and selling copies, but Premiere has royally messed things up for me and I am now in limbo with the project.
The film was recorded with simple non-HD 4:3 camcorders. Some of the footage is from years ago and was uploaded via USB low quality, but it still looks fine on YouTube, my computer, and even when I burned a DVD with the footage alone unedited. The rest was uploaded with via DV and is actually pretty good quality for being 4:3 and non-HD. I took all this footage and stretched it out with a little bit of cropping to make it widescreen on Premiere. Again, it looks great in the preview and looks fine when I exported it as a WMV.
However, when I burned it to DVD, it was horrible quality and also chopped off the sides of the film on my widescreen TV, even though I exported the film as widescreen AND burned it on the widescreen setting! Why would it do that if it was made, exported and burned as widescreen??? Also the sound was terrible! And I exported on the highest setting possible.
Second, I heard that AVI is a better format, so I tried that. The file was absolutely huge and when I opened the file with media player it wasn't the same perfect fit as the WMV. What I mean by that is, when I watched the WMV, media player showed the video as a perfect fittig window, no excess black space on the top or bottom. Same thing with several AVI mainstream movies that I have on my computer (actual movies, like Terminator Salvation, Pandorum, Black Hawk Down, etc). They all fit media player perfectly, no excess black on top or bottom. So why is it that actual movies in AVI format and my WMV video and movie files are perfect fit on media player, but when I export an AVI from Adobe Premier, it adds excess black on top and bottom? That doesn't make any sense, especially since you can look at a preview of what the exported file will look like and it doesn't look anything like what the ACTUAL export is. What kind of a joke is this?
So I pretty much need help figuring out why the exported movie is horrible quality, especially on DVD that is so bad I cannot dare to sell it to a customer, AND I need help figuring out why my Premiere Pro exported AVI's look nothing like mainstream film AVI's that I have on my computer. Someone please help, this is really hurting my business!

  • Confusion with mail.app and Gmail using imap

I've had a yahoo.com email address for years, and pay for Mail Plus and POP3, which I frankly don't even use. Now that I've confirmed, however, that I can successfully forward emails from my yahoo box to my new gmail box, I'd like to look into setting up mail.app for the gmail account using imap. Like most people, I access my mail from several places (home & work computers, Touch, and others), and imap makes sense as the right way to go.
Last night I tried to set things up on mail.app on the Mac, and boy was it confusing in terms of the folders, etc. Is there someplace someone can point me for a sort of "beginner's guide to setting up Gmail/imap with mail.app"? Hopefully this "guide" would give me some hints on setting up various rules, etc. that would allow me to have a setup that makes sense: only one copy of emails, sent items in the sent items folder, etc.
One more thing: can I set up Gmail/imap with more than one email client? For example, can I use mail.app at home and Thunderbird on the Windows computer in my office? And how is the creation of new folders (or labels, I guess, as Gmail calls them) on the web handled by mail.app (or Thunderbird)? I'm guessing that a new label created on Gmail on the web doesn't automatically result in a folder being created in mail.app (or Thunderbird), or does it? If this is correct (no folder created in mail.app until I create it on the Mac), is the message that was moved to a folder on the web found in mail.app in the All Messages folder (or whatever it's called)?
Sorry for the basic nature of these questions...this all seems pretty complicated, and I'd like to get it right the first time. Thanks.

BTW Thanks for the "head's up" that GMail now supports IMAP (I've been waiting for it!)
I'm not sure what your confusion is, other than maybe the confusion between how folders and messages work in Outlook versus Apple Mail and IMAP. I've used both, and several other mail programs over the years.
IMAP permits you to have directories which contain message folders. I make the distinction, because Outlook allows you to message folders which contain messages AND other message folders. I believe most implementations of IMAP do not allow messages inside of directories. Thus, a directory looks like a message folder, but it may only contain message folders, and not individual messages.
Now, GMail appears to create message folders for each label you define in GMail, and messages which have several labels appear in each folder. If you copy the folders to your computer, you WILL have multiple copies of those messages, however if you leave them on the server, GMAIL does all the work and you only have one copy of each message.
Special folders in GMail are all located in the directory [Gmail] and include the message folders "All Mail", "Drafts", "Sent Mail", "Spam", "Starred" and "Trash". Notice I say "directory" and not "message folder" for "[Gmail]". That is important.
I cannot attest as to what GMail does when you create a folder from your mail.app client, as I have not done that yet. I would venture a guess that it will define a GMail label and mark any messages you "move" to that folder with that label. The GMail special folder "All Mail" contains all of your mail messages, and is equivalent to selecting "All Mail" when using the web interface.
Your inbox messages will appear in the section with all of your inboxes at the top of your mailbox list. Make sure that you set your preferences to match the recommended preferences for Apple Mail when setting up your GMail account. Otherwise you will end up with duplicates and/or a lot of unnecessary data transfers to your Mac.
Hope this helps. If not, please give a more explicit example of something that doesn't work the way you expect.

  • CONFUSED with Cache size versus Increment by in Sequence

    Dear all,
I have a sequence that has the following attributes
    MINVALUE 1
    MAXVALUE 9999999999999
    CACHE SIZE 20
    INCREMENT BY 1
and tested with SELECT * FROM all_sequences and verified the above attributes.
The issue is when used, it started at 21 and has been incrementing by 20. Is it because of the Cache size overriding Increment by? I am totally confused. Please help...
    Thank you,

As long as the Sequence is in the Library Cache in the Shared Pool, you will get increments of 1.
However, as with any other object in the Shared Pool, a Sequence can get "aged out" of the Shared Pool if Oracle has insufficient memory to allocate for new SQLs. If it does get aged out, at the next load back into memory, it will come back with a value of 21. If you keep hitting the Sequence and keep it "busy" (ie hot), it will return 22, 23, 24 etc. If you use it infrequently and your shared pool size is small, it might be exited out of the shared pool and, at the next call, return with a value of 40 !
See MetaLink Note#61760.1 on using DBMS_SHARED_POOL.KEEP to "pin" Sequences and other objects. If you "keep" too many objects in the shared pool , you may end up getting ORA-4031 errors !
Note : Even if you pin your shared pool you can still "lose" values when :
    a. SHUTDOWN, STARTUP cycle happens
    b. Transactions allocate a sequence but do a rollback (a sequence increment does not get rolled-back)

  • Confusion with DX80 directory and contacts

We just received two new Cisco DX80.
I have to say I am a bit confused by many thing, one being the directory/contact. When the endpoint is registered on the CUCM (9.1.2), synched with Exchange and Jabber CUP server, a "Cisco UCM account" and "Cisco Directory Credential" are setup on the DX80... which directory and contact list is it using? and can we control it?
When I am in Jabber and search for people, I can only find people in my Jabber contacts. When I am trying to add contact I can't find any
When I'm on the "phone", the contacts seems to be my Exchange contacts. So depending on when I'm on the DX80 phone or on Jabber application, the contact list are different which is confusion. Consitency accross application would be nice. If the mail contact is using Exchange contact I would find it normal but that two Cisco UC applications are using different contact lists, I find it very confusing.
When I'm on the "phone" and use Directory, which directory is it looking into?
I have to say that overall the first DX80 experience is quite confusing

    Hello Matthieu,
yes, I agree with you, it is not ideal, its multiple applications which seem to behave different them selfs,
have different localization (the phone part is here for example localized, where the jabber part is not)
and then in addition they behave different depending on the deployment, configuration, services and status, ....
We are looking into a bigger roll out and these are definitely things we are investigating about how to deply
especially to improve usability and limit the need for support requests

  • Confused With Dreamweaver CC and the CSS Styles Panel!

    Hi all
I'm relativley new to the CC but I'm having alot of fun learning how to use dreamweaver, But now comes where I get confused. I'm learning from Lynda.com "Dreamweaver and WordPres Core Concepts" and as I follow the tutorial regarding the actual structure of wordpress themes I have different panels to the tutour.
As you can see from the pics I have a different set up and this makes it very hard to follow the tutour.
I have tried the windows menu but there is no CSS Style Panel, plus I have media, sources, selectors, and properties. Apparently the tutour is also usin CC.
Can someone please guide me on how to learn dreamweaver with up to date tutourials....

I'm not familiar with the Dreamweaver/WordPress videos on lynda.com, but if the tutorials are showing the CSS Styles panel, it means that it was recorded on Dreamweaver CS6 or earlier.
The CSS Designer panel replaces the old CSS Styles panel in DW CC. Since you have access to lynda.com, I suggest that you take a look at James Williamson's CSS Designer overview in Dreamweaver CC Essential Training.

  • Confusion with paper sizes in Elements 8

I have been using Photoshop Elements for years with my MAC , ever since it first came out and have never had this encounter with the paper size menu. When printing a photo I #1 designate which printer I am using ( Canon Pro9000) and then #2 try to select a paper size but the drop down menu has a list of sizes I can't decifer. US letter is there as well as legal but what is DMSIZE_MINUS_ 8x10, DMSIZE_6GIRI, DMSIZE_L, JB5, etc. Has anyone else come up with this problem? I need a translation. My daughter has the same problem with her copy of Elements. Is this a bug in the program?
    Thanks,
    Lorinda

When you launch print dialog of elements, the values in dropdowns are populated based on the printer selected/installed on your machine. However, in some cases it may be possible that the pritinter driver does not return the correct names of paper choices and can show junk values.
This however has not been found in latest MAC OS but may be seen in Tiger or old versions of MAC with some of the old printer of some of the manufacturers.
However, when you choose these paper sizes, the sizes are also shown in preview section.
Let me know if you have any comments.

  • Creating Link to New Window with Defined Size and Cursor Change

    Hello,
I seem to be having a problem having a hot-spot link open a new window and perform the way I want it to. I have tried a few different ways of going about this, as described below:
The first method when defining the hot spot was to use the properties menu provided at the bottom of Dreamweaver when I click on the hot spot. When I test the page, the cursor changes to a hand and I can open the link in a new window BUT I cannot define the width and height of the new window.
The second method was after defining the hot spot, using the behaviors menu from the tag inspector. From here, I would add an Open Browser Window behavior using the onClick event. Here, I can open the new window in a pre-defined width and height BUT when I test the page, the cursor does not change to a hand. It just remains the standard arrow.
The question is, how I can define the hot spot to where the mouse will change to a hand when I scroll over it AND when the window opens, it is set to the width and height I want to define?
    Thanks,
    Smartin1007

    Good Morning Gentlemen,
I tried placing the cursor script into the code without success. Either I'm not applying it correctly or it could be that the code in use is a combination of html and Java scripting.
Right now, I converted all of the image maps to the behaviors technique because I need the specific window sizes for the application that is being created. Steve, I am using DW CS4, and a sample of the code is provided below:
    map name="Map"
area shape="rect" coords="19,466,56,503" alt="Stage Hydrograph - North Fork Licking River at Mt. Olivet, KY" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('StageHydrograph/MtOlivet.html','','width=915,height=665')"
    /map
Note that there is no href reference, because I haven't found a suitable way of having an href reference with target=_blank to where I can define the new window size.
I really appreciate the advice and time that is being taken to help solve this problem.

  • Something fishy with file sizes and drives

    Hello all,
I wonder if someone might offer up a suggestion on why I cannot seem to copy a file.
    Here's the background:
    Hardware:
    -MacBook Pro 15" (Jan '06)
-External Western Digital 250GB Passport drive powered from the USB connection, connected directly to the computer USB port.
-External 750GB drive in an enclosure with its own power supply, connected through a USB hub, also with its own power supply, plugged into the other computer USB port.
    Situation:
I wanted back up my Aperture library, which currently sits on the WD drive. It's a single package file, and OSX reads it as being approx 25.5GB in size. I thought I could simply copy it over to the generic drive. This generic drive currently acts as both a backup using Time machine (currently turned off), and a backup for other misc stuff not under time machine's control. OSX shows that there is 66GB free on the generic drive.
Yet, when I try to copy the Aperture library file, OSX tells me there isn't enough space on the generic drive, in spite of there apparently being over twice as much space as needed.
I've run a Disk Utility verify check on both drives and both appear to be fine.
Does anyone have any idea why this copy won't complete?
    My thanks in advance,
    m.

That's a good suggestion. I cannot remember how I formatted it. I will check once I'm behind the mac again. I can tell you it isn't partitioned, and it should be formatted to mac formatting, but it's definitely something I hadn't thought of before. Thank you!

  • Confusion with Template Div and insertion of text

Here's my problem: When editing my template, when inserting text into the center div box (The main one, center column), the text defaults to italics, or it is inserted, indented and bold. I want it to be normal default font, without indentation so I can have all pages be identical. Here is the code and a link, please help:

What version of DW are you using?
Are you aware of the problems that will fall in your lap with pages built using the methods you have used (AP divs for layout and multiple empty <p> tags to locate content on the page)?  Also, given this layout, it's not easy to tell which div you are referring to - I assume div#content.  Is that correct?
Please give us an example of what you are entering and where you are entering it.  And tell us exactly what you see when you enter that content.
