Confusing Problem with SSD !

Hi,
6 month ago I purchased The SSD(Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB) and replaced it with Mac's default HDD . everything was fast in MacOS and Bootcamp windows partitions both .the boot Up time was about 5 seconds. until last week i installed “MacCleaner2” and it deleted some junk files . I started the mac (On mac os) everything was super slow the boot up time for mac os  was about 40 sec and I couldn't do anything in MAC OS because everything was super slow .(about 30 sec lag after every click or keyboard input (Spinning ball)) but in Bootcamp Partition everything was normal like before. I did everything i could to fix the issue (1.repair disk & permission disk using recovery hd disk utilities 2.PRAM&SMC reset 3.Updated SSD Firmwares 4.Trim the SSD)it didn't fix the problem with mac os so I formatted the whole SSD and tried to clean Install Mac Os Maverics using bootable USB (AppStore) but the whole installation was so slow it took 14 hours. and after all it didnt solve it. i tried another versions of mac os . same issue . but i installed Ubunto linux and it was fine. the problem is only with MAC OS. I also tested the SSD as an external drive using data to usb cable and boot into maces using SSD and it was good too. i Replaced the old HDD installed Mac os Maverics and everything is now ok with my mac. but I can't use my SSD for MacOS as an internal drive
Any ideas?
Thanks

  • Problem with SSD disk in MacBook Pro

I have a very weird problem with my SSD drive 128 GB in a MacBook Pro (early 2011). The warranty has already expired, I don't have Apple Care.
I had Mac OS Lion installed, and once when I opened the lid as usual to wake the system up, the system appeared to be frozen. I had to shut it down, and when swithched on again, the system didn't load - it was showing the apple and loading circle all the time.
I've tried a lot of things:
    1) First I checked the disk loading from the CDs that came with the laptop. Disk verification didn't run for the first time (image), for the second time it showed an error (image)
    2) I went to Apple store, where they made a quick hardware check, which showed everything was OK, supposed that it was a software problem a offered me to reinstall the OS. And failed to do that.
    3) I took out the hard drive and connected it via USB adapter. I could see and read the contents of the disk.
    4) I COULD LOAD the OS and work from the disk, connected by USB
    4) I tried to reinstall the OS myself (with the disk connected by SATA), and it was always freezing when searching for available disks.
    5) I installed the OS on this drive, connected by USB - all went smoothly, it installed and was working, while when connected through SATA it didn't load.
    6) Finally, I swapped my SSD with freshly installed OS with a usual HDD from another mac. BOTH WORK: my SSD in another Mac, and HDD in mine.
So, I've come to a conclusion that the problem is not in the disk itself, and not in my laptop's SATA interface, but in communication with SSD through SATA, probably some controller on the mainboard.
Question: Can anybody suggest anything on how I can confirm or disprove that? Or any thoughts about whether it can be fixable or not?
    Thanks.

Exactly the same happened to me. Yesterday morning I opened the lid of my MBP8,1 (late 2011) on a meeting with a client and It just did not wake up :-/ After forced reboot it would never boot stuck on the same place.
Now what is happening any HDD will be recognized and booted aswell 10/10 attempts but SSD will not boot eventhough I reinstalled it all. The SSD WILL boot in other MBP and is visible on other systems.
The SSD WILL BOOT via USB.
I do not believe the disk is the problem.
My MB was replaced just few months ago. My SATA cable was replaced some time before the MB.

  • [solved] Problem with ssd disk, deleted files don't free space?

    Hello.
I bought some time ago an ssd disk on which i installed arch. After some free time I changed my laptop optical drive with standard hdd and moved /home and folder with data (mainly music collection) to standard drive. To my surprise my ssd was filled as it were before. My fstab from beginning have had TRIM option enabled:
    LABEL=root / ext4 rw,noatime,discard,commit=600,barrier=0 0 1
    tmpfs /var/log tmpfs defaults,size=5% 0 0
    tmpfs /var/spool tmpfs defaults,size=5% 0 0
    LABEL=karta /run/media/kaira/karta/ ext4 rw,noatime,barrier=0,commit=600,data=writeback 0 1
    LABEL=home /home ext4 rw,noatime,barrier=0,commit=600,data=writeback 0 1
    LABEL=dane /dane/ ext4 rw,noatime,barrier=0,commit=600,data=writeback 0 1
where the last three lines were added after second disk was installed.
And now the great mystery for me:
    du -h / |sort -h -r|head -n 5:
    3,7G /
    2,7G /usr
    1,6G /usr/lib
    845M /usr/share
    771M /var
    df:
System plików rozm. użyte dost. %uż. zamont. na
    /dev/sdb1 118G 27G 90G 24% /
    devtmpfs 3,8G 0 3,8G 0% /dev

    /dev/sda1 50G 241M 49G 1% /home
    /dev/sdc1 30G 45M 29G 1% /run/media/kaira/karta
27G was the state before most data was transfered to different hard drive.
Both commands where executed after partition with music was unmounted.
I executed also fstrim / command, but it changed nothing.
Is this behavior normal, or maybe i didn't made something important/ my disk is damaged?
I know that 24% fulfillment is trivial, but now it definitely should show 3,5%.

Yes, I run this command as a root. I manage to repair this problem by mounting root partition in ubuntu live cd. I found folder which should get deleted, but it still was in filesystem. Unfortunetly I don't remeber, how i copy files. Propably i used rsync and forget to delete files. Now it's too late too check this theory, but I'm really happy with proper sizes:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sdb1 118G 3.6G 113G 4% /
    devtmpfs 3.8G 0 3.8G 0% /dev
    tmpfs 3.8G 6.0M 3.8G 1% /dev/shm
    tmpfs 3.8G 3.9M 3.8G 1% /run
    tmpfs 3.8G 0 3.8G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
    tmpfs 3.8G 356K 3.8G 1% /tmp
    tmpfs 389M 0 389M 0% /var/spool
    tmpfs 389M 32K 389M 1% /var/log
    /dev/sda2 410G 25G 381G 7% /dane
Lesson learned - never manage important system changes after getting up, without enough sleep time.
Thank you for you're help, and sorry for wasting time with my mistakes.

  • MacBook Pro 11/2007 problem with SSD OCZ Vertex Series 250 GB

    Hi,
you can read my detailed problem in the OCZ board here:
    http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64941
    The short version:
    - I bought an OCZ Vertex SSD with 250 GB for my 2 years old MacBook Pro
    - System Details: MacBookPro3,1; Boot Rom: MBP31.0070.B07; CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz; SMC: 1.18f5
    - The first 250 GB OCZ SSD was an firmware 1.3 and I could install it with Snow Leopard very easy. After 2 days the HDD just disappeared and it also didn't work in an other PC with an internal SATA port and also not with an external disk with sata to FireWire / USB
    - I RMA'ed the disk with OCZ and received a new one with firmware 1.4. I tried to install the computer from scratch and it couldn't write the partition when the SSD was connected to the internal SATA port of the MBP. I used the external SATA to USB and formated the disk with another mac. Then I could install SL from scratch but after some hours the computer began to stall and after the reboot it tried to run fschk and I got the error: "kernel[0]: disk0: I/O error."
(again: Further details please have a look at the link above)
    - When I boot the system through firewire with the SSD connected through SATA to Firewire it works like a charm but that doesn't make sense (Having a MBP with an external boot drive)
    - I RMA'ed the disk again and last week I received the third one but it had the exact same problem.
So now OCZ told me to ask apple for a possible solution. Does anybody have an idea what to do?
I've read two posts about OCZ problems and they wrote about efi 1.7 problem and with efi 1.6 it would work. Didn't try it out yet - should I?
    Thanks for you help!

  • Problems with SSD boot install

Despite extensive reading on how to create an SSD as a boot drive, my confirguration is buggy. Intially boot up was lightning fast and everything seemed to be running well between my OS-based SSD and my User Directory-based HDD. But at some point something when wrong and now I get impossibly slow start-ups and hang-ups during use. Maybe someone here can help me troubleshoot the issues.
    1) Upon start-up, a folder with a question mark appears briefly, then is quickly replaced with the standard Apple logo. This process takes at least a minute or more from a cold boot-up.
    2) When I log-out from another User account and try to log back into my User account, I can't. I must restart the comp to log back in. I checked the account directory and everything is the same. Don't know why I must reboot to log back in.
    3) Occasionally when working in an app like iPhoto the system acts like it can't find my files, indicating it's confused where I keep my photos and stuff.
    4) Shut downs take 3X longer than before. Again, as if the system is searching for things and can't figure out what's what.
I'll try to describe my set up (Mac Pro running Lion):
SSD: System/System Folder/Applications/Library/Resources/Users (random non-essential files in the folders)
HDD: System (nothing in it except Library/Cache with only "com.apple.bootstamps" in it)/Users (all Directories and user folders & files)/Desktop
Have I got things configured correctly? Something missing, something askew?
    Thanks for any insights!

What a mess!  I am not sure what you read because if what you showed is is really what you have it's a wonder you can run at all.
    • SSD: System/System Folder/Applications/Library/Resources/Users (random non-essential files in the folders)
    Users should be in /Users.
    • HDD: System (nothing in it except Library/Cache with only "com.apple.bootstamps" in it)/Users (all Directories and user folders & files)/Desktop
There's probably a LOT more in there but you just cannot see them.
I thought your intent was to make the HDD contain your home dir and use the ssd as your boot dir.  What you describe on the surface appears you ended up trying to do the reverse (and doing it poorly).  I'm guessing you specified the ssd as your boot drive in System Preferences Startup Disk.  So when you boot the machine looks there, says "what the f**k?" (probably the question mark you see), and then finds a bootable system on your hdd.
I suggest you reread how to move a home directory.

  • Yosemite problems with SSD

Today, I upgraded my MacBook Pro 13' (Early-2011) with "Kingston Hyperx3K SSD". but there is freezing(lagging) problems. I can not use my mac well. I can not use TRIM also.

I have no experience with Samsung SSD's but in Googling the 840 EVO, there appears to be a problem which Samsung has released a fix for which may or may not have a bearing on what you're going through but looks like it will need to be fixed by the user sooner or later.
This explains what the problem is. This is where to get the necessary patches. And while Samsung has made it relatively easy for a Windows user to apply the fix, that's not so for a Mac user so this goes into some detail about how to apply the update when using a Mac.
As I said, I don't have a Samsung SSD (after exploring this, it's probably a good thing) and so have not tried to actually use any of these links, but since it appears to be necessary sooner or later, perhaps it would be a good idea to look into it before any more time is spent trying to get it to work.

  • MBP Retina problem with SSD 512 disk on Mountain Lion

Hi, I'm using the latest (10.8.2) on my MBP Retina, with a 512 ssd.
Once a week, if I check the disk with the utility disk, it says I must fix it, restarting with cmd+r. I do it, run the utility disk and fix everything.
Then for few days it's fine until it says, againg, that the error is orphanaged blocks.
I'm using filevault and don't run anything particular, during the week.
How can I fix it once for all?
    Thanks

  • Problem with SSD disk on E31

    Dear,
My E31 has two disk in raid mirror configuration on SATA1 and SATA2.
Now, I've try to connect a SSD disk (seems all ok in attach) but disk management in Windows not recognized it.

Maybe the firmware on E31 mainbord not support SSD disk ?
    Or other ?
    Thanks for help,

No, not really.  Can you confirm you're connecting the new SSD to one of the red or orange AHCI ports, and not to the black eSATA port?
The drive is recognized by the OPROM from what I see in the original picture.  I'm really at a loss as to why windows disk management is not able to recognize the drive.  You could try updating your RST (Intel HDD controller) driver to see if that resolves it.  I'd also update BIOS on the slim chance that the Intel OPROM was updated at some point (possibly, but unlikely).  Beyond that, there's not much I can do without having a system in the failing state to look at.
The details of your SSD drive were removed, but it might be worth checking the web for compatibility issues with that drive and the Intel C216 chipset.  Maybe it's a known issue that's floating around that we're not aware of since that platform has been out of development for a couple years now.

  • A confusing problem with iwork 08

i'm posting again since my first effort has not gotten a response which resolved my issue. i will try to provide more detail.
yesterday, i launched pages 08, and it crashed on launch. then it crashed on launch a number of times in a row. out of curiosity, i tried keynote and numbers, and they too crashed on launch. i deleted the plists and tried again. made no difference.
i have two other accounts on the machine, root enabled long ago and rarely (almost never) used, and a non-admin account i created not that long ago for troubleshooting purposes. for fun, i tried iwork in both those accounts, and they launch and run with no problem. the original document i wanted to open launched in both accounts with no problem. so i guess the problem is unique to my main account.
for information purposes, one week ago, i was listening to a playlist in itunes when i experienced a sudden unexpected power outage. mac rebooted automatically, and a quick check of itunes seemed to show no issues, so i went merrily on my way. now it seems that possibly iwork was the corrupted casualty of that event.

    Hello
As an old time user, I gave you a workaround.
There are thousands of files in the system.
Searching for the corrupted file is like searching a needle in a haystack.
Applying what I wrote would give you a working system but if you refuse to do that, I just may tell you: good luck

  • Confusing problem with changing volume in alsa

    hello,
i searched the forum and google, but didn't find anyone that has the same problem as me.
My sound generelly works, BUT the most time i can't change the volume because there is no PCM in amixer / alsamixer / gnome volume control. But after a while, there is a PCM option available. I tried to find out in which case the PCM option appears..but i didn't find any contexts..
I noticed, that instead of a "Master" slider, there is just a "Master Mono" slider...But when changing it the sound doesn't change..so i need PCM.
My soundcard is onboard AC 97  SiS SI7012 on AsRock K7S41GX.
If you need any further information for analysis let me know.
    minus

I have the same board, but I gave up on the onboard stuff ages ago: bought a cheap PCI soundcard and NIC, and an AGP graphics card. Frankly, it was just easier.
I know this isn't very helpful. All I'm saying is that the K7S41GX seems to be a very troublesome board under Linux. Have you got the onboard ethernet working at all, or is that just mine?

  • ThinkStation S30 has problems with SSD MX100

I installed a Crucial MX100 256GB SSD into my ThinkStation S30 running under Windows 8.1.
The BIOS appears to recognise the MX100 and I was able to do a fresh install of Windows 8.1 which appears to be running OK.
However, Crucial's Storage Executive software fails to find the SSD in the ThinkStation so I am unable to update the firmware to the latest version. I also tried to update the firmware using Crucial's manual ISO method which failed as well.
My Windows 8.1 installation is up to date and I have installed Intel's RST software as suggested in one of the posts on the forum.
Does anyone have any ideas of suggestions as to how I can get the softare to run on the ThinkStation S30.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My guess is the crucial software doesn't have support for the Intel SCU controller you're likely connected to (this assumes your SSD is connected to a blue SCU SATA port).
You can try temporarily connecting the SSD to one of the legacy AHCI SATA  connectors (red/orange) and then try running the software to see if the drive is detected correctly.
I don't know what the rest of your configuration looks like, but you might be better off leaving that SSD on one of the red AHCI SATA connectors to get it running at 6Gb/s.  The blue SCU connections will limit your SSD to 3Gb/s bandwidth.

  • Confusing problem with applet

    hello!
i want to write a web-forum as a java-applet. i use a toolbar with togglebuttons and a desktop all within a jframe. each button has an itemStateChangedListener which creates an internalFrame and adds it to the JDesktop, each time the togglebutton is activated. now that i have some visible stuff, i tried to write a class that connects to a php-site to get some data from my mysql-database. the class works fine, but when i try to use it in the itemStateChanged method of my toggleButton to add content to my internalFrame, no internalFrames get created any more... is it good to create the internalFrame and to request data from the phpSite all within the Listener?! i have no idea. i tried to extend internalFrame and added the requestData to the constructor - same result: they were not shown either. why?
    thanks for any idea!
    please help me!

thanks! well validate() and co. didn't help much...
my girlfriend suggested to just first show the iframe and then do the dataRequest and the frames are shown! if everything was so easy...
still don't understand why the other way round didn't work.
since i haven't got my own server i can't make it a webapp because the provider of my webspace has no jnlp installed. so i decided to build everything up as an applet and as soon as i see the possibility make it a webapp. many classes will be reuseable...
    thnx for your ideas
