Confusing speed reports

Hi folks, I'm new here and a noob to OCing.  I'll try to keep it short and to the point.  Please hang with me.  Bottom line is I'm getting different CPU speeds reported by different utilities.
First off:
Mobo - MSI P6N SLI Platinum
BIOS - v1.4
CPU - E6750
MEM - 2 x 1G Kingston Hyper PC2 6400 CL4 240
OS - Win XP home ed
Vid - MSI Nvidia 8800GT 512 OC
Sound - SB Ex-Fi gaming
EIST DISABLED
DOT  DISABLED
I'm trying to raise my FSB and CPU speed.  I've read a lot on this and other forums to try to get educated on the OC process.  But I haven read anything that matches exactly what I'm seeing.  First thing to do is raise the FSB right?  Several utilities show my stock FSB to be 333Mhz but the BIOS shows:
CPU 2667
FSB 1333 - huh?
MEM 800
MULT 8
There's no 333MHz in the BIOS to be tweaked directly.  I deduce there is a 4x multiplier involved and tweak the only "FSB" adjustment available to 1500Mhz to give me a hoped for FSB result of 375MHz and a CPU speed of 3GHZ (8x375).  I'm thinking I got that right and my 3DMark06 score went up proportionaly.  But several utilities are reporting different and confusing speeds.
The BIOS shows   CPU 3GHz  FSB 1500MHz
3Dmark06 detects CPU 3GHz  FSB not shown
others show      CPU 3GHz  FSB 333Mhz (I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that)
Still wanting some confirmation that I really have a 375MHz FSB I decided to pause the info screen that blinks quickly when going into BIOS Setup.  It reports "speed 377MHz x 8 = 3016MHz".  That's good, I got the ~375 FSB I was trying for. But here's the kicker, below that it says:
"A 333MHz system processor is installed.  This processor is not supported on this system board and will run at reduced processor clock speed.  System performance will be impacted."
I decide that can't be right because it reports on the same screen "speed 377MHz x 8 = 3016MHz".  Scratching my head I download and run CPU-Z and PC Wizard 2008. And they both show a CPU speed of 2250MHz!!  The problem seems to be the multiplier.  CPU-Z shows a multiplier of 6.  But every now and then flashes an 8 and show 3000MHz.
What's goin on?

How do I fix Speedstep and C1E issue?
This is not an issue. Speedstep (EIST) and C1E are power saving features of your processor.  If they are enabled, multiplier and VCore are supposed to be reduced when the system is IDLE.  All values should go back to default as soon as you put some load on your processor (try Prime95).
--> To turn off Speedstep (EIST): Set your Windows Power Profile to "Always On", "Desktop" or "High Performance" and/or disable EIST/Speedstep in BIOS.
--> To turn off C1E Support: the BIOS Option is hidden, go to the BIOS section labeled "CPU Features" and press F4....the Option should be visible after that:
Quote
So with your CPU FSB set at 375MHz the memory is running at 1500MHz
This is not correct.  If system clock mode is set to "Manual" in BIOS, FSB clock speed and memory clock speed are not linked.  Both values can be modified independently. The BIOS shows effective values for both settings.  If memory clock speed is set to 800 MHz it already means DDR2-800 (real clock speed is always 1/2 of the effective settings (so in this case 400 MHz).
Quote
Several utilities show my stock FSB to be 333Mhz but the BIOS shows:
1333 MHz is the effective value.  The true or real value for clock speed is always 1/4 of the effective rating.  CPU clock speed is based on real clock speed (not effective clock speed).

  • Z77A-G43: SYSFAN3, SYSFAN4 speed reporting

Hi I bought some Arctic PWM case fans for my new rig - 1 front fan and 2 rear/top fans. And of course there is one PWM fan on my CPU cooler.
My Z77A-G43 has 5 fan connectors:
    4-pin CPUFAN
    4-pin SYSFAN1, SYSFAN2
    3-pin SYSFAN3, SYSFAN4
The front fan is connected to the 4-pin SYSFAN1 connector. The rest of the fans are chained via their 4-pin sockets and connected to the CPUFAN connector. To get speed readings for the 2 rear/top fans I connected the 3-pin connector of the rear one into SYSFAN3 and the 3-pin of the top one into SYSFAN4. As suggested in the manual of the case fans.
Now, when I look into BIOS or in Windows into diagnostic programs like SpeedFan and AIDA64, all I see is the speeds for the CPU fan and the front fan connected to SYSFAN1.
    Do SYSFAN3 & 4 support speed reporting?

Ha, I have the same chain right now, also Arctic fans But I haven't even tested the PWM yet. I thought it will just say auto in the settings, but I have to target a temperature. What temperature do you use, or would recommend? Right now with the default settings (PWM disabled) I get a stable temperature of 34C on CPU and about 25C in the case. The fans aren't unbearably loud, but I would like to get them to go quieter if possible.
I'm asking because I never had a desktop with components where I would actually be monitoring temps. Never had a PC this powerful and on my notebook I'm used to temps like 50C all the way up to almost 100C (before I disassembled and cleaned it) when gaming :D

  • Slow Modem Users-Please Test Download Speed & Report Back

    Dear iMac G5 Users,
Several of us have tested download speeds using our built-in 56K modems. Nobody has been able to get our iMacs to download at anything over about 29 kbps or 3.6 KBytes/sec. That looks to be about half of what is advertised. (No surprise really - I can only burn DVD-R's at half Apple's advertised speed). My old G3's modem will easily download at least 5.8 KBytes/sec or 46K. That's much more reasonable for a 56K modem.
Could you users check your download speed at some place like: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and post your results here?

I did the Speakeasy test from my home, and I got 24 kbps. However, this is the same speed
I got on an iMac DV with its built-in modem.
Yesterday I took my G5 iMac over to a friend's house; I wanted to test the modem
speed from a better line, and to verify that the airport card worked properly.
When I connected, Internet Connect app reported 50667 kbps.
When I did the Speakeasy test, it reported 43 kbps. This location used to
get 40000 on a Bondi iMac when it first came out (OS 8.1) so I figured this was about right.

  • Odd speed reports - expert comment requested

    Here's my situation...
We are pretty much "post pc" and have moved over to tablets for our domestic use. All connected via wifi
We do have one very simple acer aspire 1 netbook, 8gb ssd, 512mb ram running Linpus Linux Lite
Because of this I am unable to check what my line profile would/should be
This morning from my Android Tf101 tablet I ran my normal speed test - for the past 4-5 weeks, my speed has been reliable and, around 32-36mbs down and 9.5mbs up, ping at around 40ms.
I use either the Speedtest.net app or http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/ (The device connection speed is excellent on this device, 72mbs reported as the link speed) This morning I only got 6.5mbs down and 9ish mbs up
So I restarted the router (HH3) - no change
So I powered off the router - no change
So I powered off both modem & router for 90 seconds - no change
So I disconnected all,the wifi, powered the HH3 off & on again & plugged in the Acer netbook via wired ethernet - its low ram means it strugges with the official BT speedtest, but eventually I got there.
It appeared to report normal (for me) speeds.
So I checked the wifi - slow speeds still.
Eventually I decided to go through the speed check from the Home Hub via its support links. When you do a check from there it still takes you to http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/
Now one of the differences between http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/ & http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/ is that the latter shows the speeds being reported as they go, whereas the former does all tests and then reports everything at the end.
On the http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/ site, the wifi speed started off at a low 6ish mbs but then as it ran, at around 40% of the way through it picked up speed to report speeds of 30+mbs. It did this repeatedly. Almost as if the speed was checked for stability & then allowed to increase as the test progressed and the connection reported stability.
I hope I have described this clearly. Eventually I checked via the speedtest.net app again and got a similar acceleration demonstrated.
I got the HH3 to do the automatic "best wifif channel" again & it came back as the same as when it first started, channel 1.
So, can, anyone suggest why this would be?
Could it be to do with the Olympics?
Extra traffic across BT causing a general slowing or heavy internet traffic in general?
I must say I'm bemused. The HH3 did upgrade the firmware on the 25/7 to the latest version. But I haven't noticed anything until today & I do this speed check every morning.
Expert advice & comment would be appreciated
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So I mused for a bit & thought... why not just try it?
So with no-one on channel 2 I set the HH3 to that channel & BAZINGA IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM.
I've now done at least a dozen speed checks & the speed is stable at 32-37mbs everytime.
    Thanks John. Great call.

  • Sonnet processor upgrade speed reporting question

    Hi,
I just upgraded my Gigabit Ethernet Powermac to a 1.4ghz Sonnet.
The install went smoothly enough, but the odd thing is that even though I have the software installed for both os 9 and os x (tiger) - it reports the speed as 1.35 ghz in the apple system profiler.
Obviously it's not that much of a difference, but I was just wondering if anyone knows why this would be?
I wrote Sonnet already but was just wondering if this was a common experience.
    Thanks for your help!
    David

The System Profiler is not always 100% accurate about reporting processor speed: in my wife's Sawtooth with the OWC Mercury Extreme 1.4 GHz G4 card in it the System Profiler SOMETIMES indicates a speed of 1.4 GHz... and SOMETIMES system Profiler shows a speed of 1.39 GHz.
Although I can't think of any gauge programs right now I'm sure that there are other software programs or utilities that will list the components in the computer and report processor speed...

  • Confusion about report Server

    Hi all ,
I am complete newbie to Report Server.  I have a query regarding the report server . We have installed 11gR2 Report server , on OEL  following the standard Oracle Documentation. After completing the installation some online blogs suggest about Setting up A stand alone Report Server , I want to know that what is the purpose of this stand alone report server .
    Thanks

See my Friend, Its completely two different things which you must to know first ...
One is Oracle Reports Server will run independently (on most cases) to execute your reports.
The next thing is when you call a report from your forms (which you have designed) you must specify the port ID of the reports server to communicate.
If you are a newbie (as you said) then have a look on the following link to know the basic working and knowledge about Oracle Reports

  • GD-45 speed reports in BIOS

    Hi,
I have the GD-45 with an i7-860 (2.8GHz). I am trying to run a standard system (no overclocking). At startup I get these to messages:
CPU speed after observing the CPU type and frequency) at 133x21
OS Speed (whatever that means) at 133x22
Within the operating system (win 7 64b), when running CPU-Z, I get the CPU frequency constantly fluctuating above the stock frequency (3.2-3.4GHz).
Did I enable by mistake overclocking?
If yes, how do I make sure that I disable any overclocking?
Am I getting wrong reading from CPU-Z?
    What is OS speed?
    Thanks, Florin

Tha is normal if there is demand on the CPU, then the Intel Turbo Boost functionality will increase the frequency temporarily. This is an inherent function of the CPU, which you can disable in the BIOS, but that would be defeating the object of the Intel design concept.

  • How should I report forum performance issues?

The forums rely heavily on the caching features of browsers to improve the speed of page rendering. Performance of these forums should greatly improve after a few pages because more and more of the images, css and javascript is cached in the browser. As a consequence, when reporting forums performance issues the report should include some information on the state of the browser cache to determine whether the issue is a browser issue or a server issue. Such detailed information is generally not available from just watching the browser screen, but needs to come from specialized tools such as performance monitor plugins and recording proxies.
The preferred report method for performance issues is to use the speed reporting features build into or available as a plugin for a browser for both the page you want to report a problem with and several refence pages in the site. Detailed instructions are listed below separated out for different browsers. If possible, please use Firefox for submitting the report because it provides an export format that can be read back electronically.
    Known performance issues
The performance issues with any screen with a Rich Text Editor, such as the Reply window and the compose Private Message window have been acknowleged and improvements are being implemented.
    Mozilla Firefox (preferred)
Warning: it is currently not recommended to generate a speed report when logged in. The speed report has enough detail for somebody else to hijack your session and impersonate you on the forums. If you really must report while logged in, make sure you log out your browser after generating the speed report and wait at least 4 hours before posting.

When you report a performance problem please attach the 6 exports from the Firebug Net panel and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal) and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting. If you have non-standard tweaks to your Firefox configuration (such as pipelining enabled) or are running any plugins please include that information in your report as well.

Since Google Chrome does not have an export format for the Resource Tracking information best current practice is to take a screenshot and note the hover details for any resource with a tail that is longer then 25% of the total load time. When you report a performance problem please attach the screenshots and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal)  and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting.

The Apple Safari Web Inspector has a Resources panel similar to the Resources panel in the Google Chrome developer tools. To get there, follow these steps:
    Show the menu bar.
    Go to preferences
    Go to the Advanced Tab
Check “Show  Develop menu in menu bar”.
From the Develop menu select “Show Web  Inspector”.
Collecting the performance information and exporting works exactly the same as in Google Chrome. Please refer to the instructions for Google Chrome.
    Microsoft Internet Explorer
IE does not have native features to analyze web traffic. No plugins have been found that produce the required information (please let us know if we missed any). For now, please reproduce the issue with Firefox, Chrome or Safari.
Please note that due to the reliance on Javascript for the interactive effects the performance of these forums will be much better on MS IE 8 then on previous versions of MS IE.

  • Only one mac out of six has a speed problem

I have two Mac Minis, a MacBook, two Blue and White G3s, and a Gigabit G4.
Five of the computers return a 2.0 Mbps D/L speed when I run the ATT speedtest page for my DSL.
The MacBook returns a 375 Kbps DL.
Speedtests were run over a couple dozen times and speeds reported have been very consistent.
Why? Location doesn't seem to matter. Two Macs are in another room and the MacBook is in the same room as the wireless router and three other Macs. Yes, I moved the MacBook around and currently it's only 4 feet away from the router and within 2 feet of the three other wireless Macs.
All machines are running 10.4.8 with all updates applied. Essentially there should be no difference between the MacBook and the two Minis... similar processors and software.
I'm not a noob when it comes to the network settings and there is nothing setup different in the MacBook other than the static IP address of course.
What could be going on here to cause the DSL download speed of the MacBook to be only 16% of the other 5 computers?
    Thank-you.

I think that a continuous, realtime monitoring of
available wireless networks could results in two kind
of problems: the software accessing the wifi card
resource, thus blocking access by the legitimate
manager software, and the network bandwidth being
occupied by continuous attempts of testing network
presence. The latter problem could partially hurt
also other connected computers, though it is divided
among 13 channels, only ne of which being really used
    by your real network.
    I agree.
This kind of problems is much more present in
Bluetooth, where the so called "aggressive polling"
is able to produce the equivalent of a denial of
    service.
I also have Bluetooth turned on.
As long as just CoconutWiFi is killed, my speed is back to normal even with my Bluetooth.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 parameter panel

    Hello,
I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 stand-alone application to design reports. I'm wondering is there a possibility to change information display on parameter panel?
The problem is that I've created a parameter with option "prompt with description only" set to true. This parameter has value and description. When it's prompting for parameter everything goes fine, it prompts with description only, but in parameter panel it's only values (not descriptions) displayed. This is confusing for report users as the value is key (int type) and description is name (string that actually says something to user).
Maybe there is something to be set in Crystal Reports Viewer component properties?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Gemi,
I recommend to post this query to the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to the creation and design of Crystal Report documents. This includes topics such as database connectivity, parameters and parameter prompting, report formulas, record selection formulas, charting, sorting, grouping, totaling, printing, and exporting but also installation and registering.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all Crystal Reports Design queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.
    Best regards,

  • Hyperlinks in Crystal Reports

    Hi, Gurus,
I am new to Crystal Rports and trying to create Hyperlinks from Summary to Detail report.
I am in confusion which report is Source and Tearget (Summary or Detail) that I should copy the object and paste into Report part for Another Report Object.
And not sure whether object refers to Column Heading or Group heading or details. I am using evaluation version 2008
Can anyone please help me on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Sree Raj

    Hi Sree,
As I understand you want to link your summary report to details report through hyperlink.
In this scenario you have to create hyperlink from the source to destination i.e from summary to detail report.
If your summary is placed in Group Footer section then Objects will be Group Footer and so on.
Please let us know if you need any further clarification.

  • How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes??????

How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes?

As jules says, your rate (currently at least) may be slow.
If it used to be good I wonder is your ISP is slowing ('throttling') your speed after you've used so many GB of a quota each day or month - check what they think you should be getting as a download speed.
While Apple's servers do occasionally play up, it's generally the ISP being slow not Apple.
If you're using Google's DNS servers that has caused issues for some.
Recommended speeds for near instant playback:
    SD         2.5Mbps
    720p      6 Mbps
    1080p    8 Mbps
Is your speed test from somewhere like speedtest.net?
It might be helpful to post Mbps to ensure we/you are not confusing speeds by using different units to those measured.

    Hi All,
I implemented my customer report, which deletes versions of documents which has the same content (comparing the hashcodes).
For traversing a folder hierarchy I used the HierarchyWalker-API.
    Now my problem:
How can I stop my report? - I cannot find a method for stopping within the IReport interface.
    Many thanks for helping me
    Bye Steve

    Hi epexpert,
    thanks for your reply.
    Only two questions:
    (1) What do you mean with "confuse the reporting framework"?
    (2) In the SAP Reports you can stop the reports manally, why shouldnt this work with the custom reports?
    Many thanks

  • No more  "Save Report"

    Good Morning All,
I am confusing “Save Report” in Actions Menu of Interactive report.
Save Report - Used to save the report settings for future use.
According the definition, I don’t want to include and I unchecked it. But I still see it.
When I click the “Save Report”, the following message appears:
“The current report settings will be used as the default for all users.”
How can I rid of the “Save Report” ?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
I couldn't find the solution but then I read the previous post. What he said is correct but only occurs when either your application's Build Status is set to: Run Application Only
    or
You set Status to Available instead Available with Edit Links. By doing this instead of the previous you're still able to edit your application.
I'd suggest doing the latter but only so you can see that it does actually work as you intend. Then reset it to Available with Edit Links so that it is easier for you to update. Then once your application is finalised you set it to Run App Only and the effects will be visible to the users.
Both Status and Build Status can be found in your application defintion.
    Mike
