Confusion about LabelValueBean class

hi all,
Can anybody tell me what is the functionality of LabelValuBean class in struts?Where it can be used?A code example will be very helpful
thanks in advance

A simple JavaBean to represent label-value pairs. This is most commonly used when constructing user interface elements which have a label to be displayed to the user, and a corresponding value to be returned to the server. One example is the <html:options> tag.

  • Confused about instances/classes

    I'm trying to write a war simulation. I have a Soldier class and then a RedSoldier and BlueSoldier which extend the Soldier class. Here are pertinent methods from my Soldier class.
    protected Location nextLocation() //hunts and eats closest fish
            Soldier f = findClosest();
            System.out.println(f);
              if(f!=null)
                 Location nextLoc = environment().getNeighbor(this.location(),environment().getDirection(this.location(),f.location()));
                 if (nextLoc.equals(f.location()))
                      System.out.println("killing");
                      kill(f);
                 if (environment().isEmpty(nextLoc))
                      return nextLoc;
            return super.nextLocation();
         protected void kill(Soldier f)
              environment().remove(f);
         }It will always call the kill method in the soldier class. Is there a way I can tell if the soldier is of type Red or Blue and then call the kill method in the red or blue classes respectively? I was thinking something like this.getClass().kill(f); if thats a real method so it will call the correct method from the correct class?

    should a soldier really be killing itself?This depends completely on what "kill" is supposed to do. If kill means "stab that other guy in the chest with a bayonet", then kill() nmight take a parameter of which other guy. But if kill means "you are now being stabbed in the chest with a bayonet, so keel over and die", then there might not be any parameter you need to give it.
    Consider the close() method in Streams. When you tell an InputStream to close(), you are not telling it to "go over there and close that other InputStream". You're telling IT to close itself, shutting itself down, and keeling over dead - as though stabbed in the chest with a bayonet.
    Also consider, if kill() means to go kill another soldier, then you still may need SOME method in the other soldier that tell him he's being killed...or not, depending on your design of soldier. You might design your squadron of soldier so that killing a soldier simply means removing it from the list of living soldiers.

  • Confused about extending the Sprite class

    Howdy --
    I'm learning object oriented programming with ActionScript and am confused about the Sprite class and OO in general.
    My understanding is that the Sprite class allows you to group a set of objects together so that you can manipulate all of the objects simultaneously.
    I've been exploring the Open Flash Chart code and notice that the main class extends the Sprite class:
    public class Base extends Sprite {
    What does this enable you to do?
    Also, on a related note, how do I draw, say, a line once I've extended it?
    Without extending Sprite I could write:
    var graphContainer:Sprite = new Sprite();
    var newLine:Graphics = graphContainer.graphics;
    And it would work fine. Once I extend the Sprite class, I'm lost. How do I modify that code so that it still draws a line? I tried:
    var newLine:Graphics = this.graphics;
    My understanding is that since I'm extending the Sprite class, I should still be able to call its graphics method (or property? I have no idea). But, it yells at me, saying "1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Graphics.

    Thanks -- that helped get rid of the error, I really appreciate it.
    Alas, I am still confused about the extended Sprite class.
    Here's my code so far. I want to draw an x-axis:
    package charts {
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        import flash.display.Graphics;
        public class Chart extends Sprite {
            // Attributes
            public var chartName:String;
            // Constructor
            public function Chart(width:Number, height:Number) {
                this.width = width;
                this.height = height;
            // Methods
            public function render() {
                drawAxis();
            public function drawAxis() {
                var newLine:Graphics = this.graphics;
                newLine.lineStyle(1, 0x000000);
                newLine.moveTo(0, 100);
                newLine.lineTo(100, 100);
    I instantiate Chart by saying var myChart:Chart = new Chart(); then I say myChart.render(); hoping that it will draw the axis, but nothing happens.
    I know I need the addChild method somewhere in here but I can't figure out where or what the parameter is, which goes back to my confusion regarding the extended Sprite class.
    I'll get this eventually =)

  • Confusion about Kodo and JCA

    Hi,
    I'm a bit confused about Kodo's Connection Architecture strategy. It is my understanding that
    PMF's can be built to use the connection architecture. Along this line, one would configure the
    ConnectionFactory or ConnectionFactoryName, and possibly the ConnectionFactory2 and
    ConnectionFactory2Name properties in a PMF. The result of the PMF implementation supporting the
    connection architecture is nice integration with the application servers in terms of security,
    transaction, and connection management. One can lookup in JNDI a reference to a Kodo PMF that
    supports datastore transactions or to another one that supports optimistic transactions or to
    another one that supports NTR, and with proper settings of the transactional properties and suitable
    application code, one's sesson bean will work.
    But from what I can see of Kodo's JDOPersistenceManagerFactory class, it, itself, implements the
    ManagedConnectionFactory interface, meaning, I think, that this class is resource adaptor. And that
    the part that confuses me. Why would Kodo be a resource adaptor? I thought it used a resource
    adaptor, which I think is the same thing as a connection factory.
    Anyway, I'm puzzled, and I'm hoping that someone could straighten me out.
    David Ezzio

    David-
    The fact that Kodo can integrate into an application server as a
    Resource Adaptor, and section 3.2.2 of the specification that says that
    the PersistentManagerFactory should be able to utilize a Resource
    Adaptor to obtain connections to the data store are two separate issues.
    We implement Kodo itself as a Resource Adaptor in order to provide ease
    of integration into recent application servers. Your confusion is
    understandable, since we do not actually yet support the use of Resource
    Adaptors as the Connection Factories as per section 3.2.2.
    Does that make sense?

  • Confused about conversation grouping Lion vs. Snow Leopard

    Hello All,
    I just upgraded. Literally just finished. I was checking out mail, and I am confused about how Mail 5 groups messages for conversations. In SL I had Mail group related messages as well, and it's a feature I really enjoy. Conversations just makes it that much better. But, I notice that Lion groups message differently than both SL and iOS. Now, it is no longer grouping emails that are all from various people but are part of the same thread. It is grouping multiple messages from the same sender, even if they have nothing to do with each other, or are only loosely connected.
    It used to be (and still is on my iPhone) for example, that all the emails eminating from a single thread topic on one of my class forums would all group together. They have the same subject line and formatting. It was heaven. Will there be no way of doing this?
    Also, now all the emails from the teacher of that class, regardless of the relevancy or subject line, group together in one conversation. It's annoying in a way, but I think I can get used to that. Does anyone know if these will be able to be changed in the future?
    Thanks

    As a Mac power user - LION IS A DISAPPOINTMENT
    Apple needs to seriously consider briniging back
      • SPACES: the capability to move up as well as down to access applications
         AND have applications stay in a desgnated space makes it much easier
         to run multiple applicatioins - especially in a multi-monitor environment
      • SAVE AS: Saving various versions of a file is difficult with Lion.
        If I want a 3 versions of a document - with different pictures, it takes too many "clicks" to accomplish
         this task.  LET ME CHOOSE HOW I STORE FILES
      • COPY COMMAND: Snow Leaopard allowed me to copy files to a storage device AND if the file
         was already written to the device - the option to NOT REPLACE the file existed.  This made it
         easy to backup work on a portable drive.
         LION ONLY has two options - copy all or make an addition copy of the file, causing storage bloat
    APPLE NEEDS TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER PUTTING THESE FEATURES BACK INTO THEIR OS FOR THE BUSINESS AND POWER USER

  • Udev: confusion about identifier ATTRS{idProduct}

    Hi,
    i'm confused about how exactly udev identifies a device, imho the idProduct identifier is (in this specific case) inconsistent.
    Short story:
    'lsusb' and 'udeadm info' indentify the devices idProduct as "1002", but to get udev rules working i have to use ATTRS{idProduct}=="1001" though.
    Long story:
    I have this usb-to-midi device (midisport 2x2), which needs to load firmware to work (midisport-firmware). This is the udev rule to load the firmware:
    #/etc/udev/rules.d/42-midisport-firmware.rules
    # MidiSport 2x2
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0763", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1001", RUN+="/sbin/fxload -s /usr/share/usb/maudio/MidiSportLoader.ihx -I /usr/share/usb/maudio/MidiSport2x2.ihx -D %N"
    This rule ("idProduct=1001") works!
    Changing "idProduct" to "1002" does not work.
    However, here's the output of
    ~# lsusb

    The midisport box is the only device where this inconsistence appears, all other usb-devices (hdds, sticks, sound card, dvb-t stick, mp3 player) get identified as expected.
    I want to know, if anybody can explain this/ if anybody has had similar experiences!

    Looking at the udevadm info output, it shows ATTR{idproduct}=="1002" and ATTRS{idproduct}=="0001" and your rule uses ATTRS{idproduct}=="1001".
    Have you tried with just ATTR{idproduct}=="1002" (note no S)? Looking at the output of info, I would still not expect ATTRS{idproduct}=="1001" to work, but udev's changed a fair bit in the last few years and the old bible for rules is way out of date.

  • Confused about update method in JComponents

    Hello,
    I'm a bit confused about the update method in JComponents. What I remember from applets was that the update method was called whenever something changed such as a window being dragged across it or something.
    I've written a class that extends a JPanel and overwrites the paint method. Any components I add to it aren't drawn. I can add JComponent.update() methods to my paint() method but this is very inefficient as I'm having repaint() called by a thread 15 times a second. I tried to put the update methods in the JPanels update() but that doesn't work, in fact update isn't called at all. What does update do ?

    Let me take another crack at it...
    1) Grab the 9.2.0.8 patchset for the Oracle database (i.e. patch 4547809 on Metalink assuming you're using 32-bit Windows). Install this to upgrade your Oracle client to 9.2.0.8. Installation instructions are in the README.
    2) Grab the 9.2.0.8 Oracle ODBC driver, which you already appear to have, and follow the installation instructions in the README you're looking at.

  • Confused about JTable::setCellEditor

    Hi
    I'm a bit confused about what JTable::setCellEditor does.
    I wrote my own TableCellEditor implementation which can handle dates and other additional stuff and which can decide for itself what type of editing control to display.
    Now I want my table to use only this editor.
    However using
    tblTest.setCellEditor( MyEditorInstance );didn't work. But when I used
    tblTest.getColumnModel().getColumn(0).setCellEditor( MyEditorInstance );
    tblTest.getColumnModel().getColumn(1).setCellEditor( MyEditorInstance );
    tblTest.getColumnModel().getColumn(2).setCellEditor( MyEditorInstance );for every column it worked fine.
    How can I avoid setting the default editor manually and set it for all columns?
    As always, any help is greatly appreciated
    Marcus

    I agree with you, its not clear what that method does.
    If you don't set a cell editor to a column then JTable determines which of its default editors to use based on the Class returned from the getColumnClass() method, which is defined by the JTable and the TableModel. If you are using the default implementation of this method then it will always return Object as the class type. You can use your editor as the default by doing:
    table.setDefaultEditor(Object.class, MyEditorInstance);

  • Confused about how to display a rectangle on JFrame

    i'm a little confused about how to display a rectangle on a jframe.
    I know there is a class called Rectangle. is there a way to use it to display a rectangle on a JFrame? i couldn't find a way to do that.
    i found a way to display a rectangle in the internet:
    CODE:
    public class RectangleFrame extends JFrame {
        public RectangleFrame() {
            super("My Rectangle");
            setSize(300,400);
            setLocation(300,300);
            setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            JButton button = new JButton("Button");
            JPanel panel = new JPanel();
            panel.add(button);
            getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
            getContentPane().add(new Rect(), BorderLayout.CENTER);
            getContentPane().add(panel, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
            setVisible(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new RectangleFrame();
    public class Rect extends JComponent {
        public void paint(Graphics g) {
            g.drawRect(50,50,200,200);
    }is this the only way to do that? isn't there an easier way? do i have to write this new class Rect i wrote?
    i don't really know how this Rect class i wrote works. could someone explain?
    then another question: can i put a rectangle on a JPanel or do i have to add it directly onto the ContentPane as i did above?
    i hope everything i asked is clear enough.
    thanks for your effort.

  • Confused about logical table source

    Hi,
    I'm confused about logical table source(LTS), there are 'General', 'Column Mapping', 'Content' tabs in
    LTS, in General tab ,there are some information,like 'Map to there tables' and 'joins',
    just here, we have created relationships in physical layer and BMM layer, so I would like to ask what's the use of the 'joins' here?

    Hi Alpha,
    Valid query, when you establish a complex join it is always between a logical fact and dimension table.Consider a scenario,
    Example:w_person_dx is an extension table not directly joined to a fact but joins to a dimension w_person_d.
    When you model the person_d tables in BMM, you ll have a single logical table with w_person_d as source.If you have to pull columns from both w_person_d and w_person_dx tables in a report, you add dx table as inner join to persond table in the general tab.Now when you check your physical query, you can see the inner join fired between the two dimensions.

  • Confused about transaction, checkpoint, normal recovery.

    After reading the documentation pdf, I start getting confused about it's description.
    Rephrased from the paragraph on the transaction pdf:
    "When database records are created, modified, or deleted, the modifications are represented in the BTree's leaf nodes. Beyond leaf node changes, database record modifications can also cause changes to other BTree nodes and structures"
    "if your writes are transaction-protected, then every time a transaction is committed the leaf nodes(and only leaf nodes) modified by that transaction are written to JE logfiles on disk."
    "Normal recovery, then is the process of recreating the entire BTree from the information available in the leaf nodes."
    According to the above description, I have following concerns:
    1. if I open a new environment and db, insert/modify/delete several million records, and without reopen the environment, then normal recovery is not run. That means, so far, the BTree is not complete? Will that affact the query efficiency? Or even worse, will that output incorrect results?
    2. if my above thinking is correct, then every time I finish commiting transactions, I need to let the checkpoint to run in order to recreate the whole BTree. If my above thinking is not correct, then, that means that, I don't need to care about anything, just call transaction.commit(), or db.sync(), and let je to care about all the details.(I hope this is true :>)
    michael.

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/TransactionGettingStarted/chkpoint.html
    Checkpoints are normally performed by the checkpointer background thread, which is always running. Like all background threads, it is managed using the je.properties file. Currently, the only checkpointer property that you may want to manage is je.checkpointer.bytesInterval. This property identifies how much JE's log files can grow before a checkpoint is run. Its value is specified in bytes. Decreasing this value causes the checkpointer thread to run checkpoints more frequently. This will improve the time that it takes to run recovery, but it also increases the system resources (notably, I/O) required by JE.

    I have a GUI first loaded information and the information is stored in a databse, I have some EJB classes..and my singleton class ABC has some method to access to the EJB..
    so my first GUI will gather info using singleton class and later if I click on
    a button in my first GUI class, will pop up another frame of another class , this class also need to class setPassword in my Singleton..
    are my followign codes correctly??
    iS my Class ABC a SINgleton class? thanks
    Is my class ABC use as single correctly. And It is called from other classes is also correct?
    I'm new to java and like to learn about Singleton class.
    But I really dont' understand it clearly after reading many examples of it.
    I have a project to convert my class abc to a singleton.
    But I dont know how to do it.
    In my class(soon will become a singleton) will have few methods that later I need to use it from another class A and class B.
    I have a GUI application that first load my class A..and my class will call
    class abc(singleton) to get some information from it.
    and then in class A has a button, if I click on that button I will call SIngleton class again to update my password, in the singleton class has method calls updatePassword. But I dont know how to call a singleton from other class.
    I have my code for them below:
    1)public class ABC //attempt using a singleton
    private static ABC theABC = null;
    private ABC(){}
    public synchronized static ABC getABC()
    if(theABC == null)
    theABC= new ABC();
    return the ABC;

    1. When replying, use <reply>, don't post a new topic.
    2. Implementing a singleton is a frequently asked question. Search before you post.
    3. This is not a question about Swing. A more appropriate forum would be "New To Java Technology" or perhaps "Java Programming", but see point 1.
    4. When posting code, keep it short. It increases the chance of readers looking at it. And in composing your shorter version for the forum, you just may solve your problem.

  • Confused about standby redo log groups

    hi masters,
    i am little bit confuse about creating redo log group for standby database,as per document number of standby redo group depends on following equation.
    (maximum number of logfiles for each thread + 1) * maximum number of threads
    but i dont know where to fing threads? actually i would like to know about thread in deep.
    how to find current thread?
    thanks and regards
    VD

    is it really possible that we can install standby and primary on same host??
    yes its possible and i have done it many times within the same machine.
    For yours confusion about spfile ,i agree document recommend you to use spfile which is for DG broker handling if you go with DG borker in future only.
    There is no concern spfile using is an integral step for primary and standby database implementation you can go with pfile but good is use spfile.Anyhow you always keep pfile on that basis you created spfile,i said you make an entry within pfile then mount yours standby database with this pfile or you can create spfile from this pfile after adding these parameter within pfile,i said cause you might be adding this parmeter from SQL prompt.
    1. logs are not getting transfered(even i configure listener using net manager)
    2.logs are not getting archived at standby diectory.
    3.'ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION' NEVER COMPLETE ITS RECOVERY
    4. when tried to open database it always note it 'always' said system datafile is not from sufficiently old backup.
    5.i tried 'alter database recover managed standby database camncel' also.Read yours alert log file and paste the latest log here..
