Confusion on file trans

I have over 7000 music files on my desktop computer. When I import them to the Laptop which i take to work with me for DJ shows, none of the files are accessible. It's almost as if the songs listed in the SoundBlaster are shortcuts that can only be played when I am at the house AND connected to my Network. I want to permanenetly move these files to the laptop, or at least have a duplicate copy of them to play when I am at a show. When i try to transfer files, the source, which is the C: dri've on the desktop does not appear in the Creative product such that a transfer would be possible.

Hi
? Perhaps you got/made shortcuts only.
How did you copy/trancfer those files into laptop.
Is your desktop pc and laptop connected together (network)?
Are files mp3 or wav format files (7000 x average size mp3 (28-92kbps) is ~30GB,
7000 x same files as wav -format is ~300GB).
If you have room, copy files from desktop to laptop using windows explorer (not internet
explorer).

  • Target & Max Bit Rate - A Little confusing Need file to be 15 GB Blu-Ray Help????

    I have a 2 and a half hour project on PPro CS 5.5 that I want to encode in H.264 Blu-Ray.  I want to get it to 15 GB.
    What woud be the best settings to do so?
    The Target Bit Rate and Max Bit Rate have a lot to do with it, but I am a little confused on what each of them really do.
    I just want to get it to 15 GB and make sure the Estimated file size somewhat accurate.
    Is 15 GB too big for a Blu-Ray?
    Thanks in advance
    PPro CS 5.5
    Media Encoder 5.5.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Jeff,
    I just started to build just my menus with my QT files inside of them as a "Build to Folder."
    I think I know why it's saying 7.1 GB used.
    Since the menus in Encore stop and loop after 30 seconds, I did not like that.
    I like to play a full song on each menu and then when the song ends, it starts again. If I did that on a standard 30 second menu in Encore, the song would stop every 30 seconds and start again. This was not acceptable to me.
    This does not happen in DVD Studio Pro. In DVD Studio Pro, I can put in a full song with Videos in Video Zones, change the loop time to the length of that song, and the menu would play that song, and loop again when it was over.
    I wanted to do this in Encore, so I had to make the menus a little longer than the song I wanted to put in them. I did that.
    1) I went into After Effects with the background of the menu I wanted to use.
    2) It comes in as a .psd file.
    3) I then stretched it out to a length a little longer than the song. (For exaample, I'm using a song that is 4 minutes and 50 seconds, so I stretched out the background of that menu to 5 Minutes.)
    4) I then rendered out that newly made 5 minute menu out of After Effects, using H.264 1440 x 1080i, 29.97 High Quality.
    5) I then brought that newly made 5 minute background back into Encore and placed it over the original 30 second background in Encore.
    6) Now the song and the videos inside the "Video Drop Zones" will loop until the song is over, stop, then the song will start again and the videos keep on looping. Just like in DVD Studio Pro
    For this particular job I did this 6 times (1 for each sub-menu) depending on the length of the song I am using for each menu.
    1) The first sub-menu is a 5 minute menu which, when rendered in After Effects, came out to be 1.5 GB Big
    2) The second menu is a 4 minute menu which came out to be 1.2 GB
    3) The third is a 4 and a half minute menu which is 1.35 GB
    4) The fourth is a 3 and a half minute menu which is 1.05 GB
    5) The fifth menu is another 4 minute menu which is 1.2.GB
    6) The sixth menu is a 7 minute menu which is 2.1 GB.
    When you add them up it actually comes out to be 8.4 GB just the menus without any videos in them.
    So Encore has already compressed them down a little.
    It's not the videos that are taking up much space, but these menus.
    Since I am building my job in Encore to a folder, I want to see what the actual size comes out to be after it's compressd. This will give me an idea of how big I can make my 2 and a half hour wedding. The Target and Max Bit rate.
    I hope that sheds some light on why Encore is saying that the menus and QT files are taking up 7.1 GB already.
    I wish there was another way that I can have my menus play for the length of any song without having to go into After Effects and stretch each menu to accomodate the length of a particular song. This takes up a lot of space, but it's the way I like to make my menus.
    Thanks again

  • Some confusion about files on the hard drive and those in LR

    i have been importing files directly into LR and at the same time creating a folder in My Pictures where the original files are stored.  i then edit in LR.
    in order to save and then backup up edited files i export them to another folder marked "fotos 2010 LR", the first folder being "fotos2010'.
    my confusion is having both folders.  i know that if i delete the original folder it will also delete those corresponding files in LR.
    reading this over now i suppose i could export to "fotos2010" folder and write over original files but im afraid to do that.  is that a good idea?
    am i doing something wrong?  i feel like i'm missing something about LR works.
    thanks
    harvey

    The best way forwards rather depends on how far you have gone with your 'new' catalog.
    On the one hand you have an 'old' catalog that contains your edits and your collections, but because you moved the original files and folders outwith LR the catalog, and it's record of the files it knows bout, is 'disconnected' from the source files.
    On the other you have a 'new' catalog that knows where all the pictures are but doesn't have your changes and collections.
    If you haven't done much work with the new catalog you might be better to open the original catalog and update it with the location of files it has lost sight of. In library mode right click a directory showing errors and select 'Update folder location'. Depending on the scale of your mix up this might be quite time consuming, proceed slow and sure and all will be OK in the end. What you won't have after this is any work you've done in the new catalog.
    If you've done a lot of work in the new catalog then you are better off staying with it and trying to recover work from the old catalog. You'd have to do the updating of links discussed above first but having done so you can then write the changes made by LR out to the original pciture files. The 'picture' doesn't change but the file now has a list of changes applied by LR stored in a manner that can be interpreted by LR and other programs (technically not within the file itself but an associated side-car file). With the old catalog open select 'Save metadata to File', with the appropriate pictures selected. Once the data has been written out you can open the new catalog and 'Read Metadata from Files' to get the new catalog to be aware of the changes held within the picture file. That won't recover your collections however, I think you're stuck there. I don't know of a way to 'export' a collection and 'import' it into a new catalog. Given that a collection is essentially a list of picture files that LR knows about I can't really see how it would be possible given that the original problem is that the old and new catalogs have a different idea of where the original source photo files are.
    My gut feel - Unless the help here has made you pretty confident I'd stick with the new catalog, take the hit and recreate the collections from scratch.
    Cheers

  • Confused about "files inside a JAR"

    I have a program that has a Properties file which I would like to "save" into the JAR file, so it is not outside the JAR.
    I know this can be done, because I've seen some Java programs that save their configuration between sessions, but not via a file inside its directory. This leads me to believe the file is maintained within the JAR itself, which would be REALLY handy and secure.
    Is this a correct assumption? If so, how would I do it? Here's a "test program" that we can play with, how would I save MyProperties' properties field into the MyProgram JAR?
    package SBX;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class MyProgram {
        // Instance Variables
        public MyProperties myProp = new MyProperties();
        public String stringOne = "Will this be loaded?";
        public String stringTwo = "How about this one?";
        // Main Method
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new MyProgram();
        // Constructors
        public MyProgram() {
            if ((new File("properties.txt")).exists()) {
                myProp.updateProgram(this);
            System.out.println("1) " + stringOne);
            System.out.println("2) " + stringTwo);
            myProp.updateProgram(this);
            System.out.println("3) " + stringOne);
            System.out.println("4) " + stringTwo);
            myProp.updateProperties(this);
            // Now that we've "updated" stringOne & stringTwo and "updated" myProp and saved it,
            // we should be able to get the values "ONE" and "TWO" for print outs 1 & 2 when we next
            // run the program, instead of "Will this be loaded?" and "How about this one?", as we got during the first run.
            // However, the thing I need help with is saving the Properties to the JAR file so it's not accessable
            // outside of the JAR file. How can this be done?
    class MyProperties {
        // Instance Variables
        private Properties properties;
        // Constructors
        public MyProperties() {
            Properties defaults = new Properties();
            defaults.setProperty("stringOne", "ONE");
            defaults.setProperty("stringTwo", "TWO");
            properties = new Properties(defaults);
            try {
                FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("properties.txt");
                properties.load(fis);
                fis.close();
            catch (Exception e) {
                System.out.println("No properties file found, ignore this; one will be saved when the program exits.");
        // Methods
        public void updateProgram(MyProgram prg) {
            prg.stringOne = properties.getProperty("stringOne");
            prg.stringTwo = properties.getProperty("stringTwo");
        public void updateProperties(MyProgram prg) {
            properties.setProperty("stringOne", prg.stringOne);
            properties.setProperty("stringTwo", prg.stringTwo);
            try {
                FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("properties.txt");
                properties.store(fos, "A header");
                fos.close();
            catch (Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
    }Thanks for any help!
    PS...writing demo programs is kind of fun :)

    Fossie,
    Yup... you can jar up your properties file... you just need to add it to manifest file and jar (the program) takes care of the rest... google that there's loads of existing articles.
    BUT, I don't think you can modify the properties file in the jar... it may be possible, but I just don't know how. Instead (I think) you ship your default properties file in the jar, but still save a local properties file to the same directory as the jar (obviously won't work for applets)... then you load your defaults, and the local settings over the top.
    and PS I don't see how sticking a properties file in the jar would "secure" it in any fashion... it's just a zip file after all... would you care to elaborate?
    Cheers,
    Keith.

  • Spry confusion and files

    Hi,
    I am very new to all of this and have some really cool ideas
    for my website. anyhow, I have come across a number of problems.
    Firstly, from having no idea what so ever, I downloaded an example
    page from adobe. Tried to replicate the bulk of it, with my data...
    It didnt work (an object error with the xml) I replaced the
    xpath.js and I think the sprydata.js that I had with the ones from
    the example and what I had done worked (that took me 45 minutes).
    now I am having trouble with the accordion thing. I want to use xml
    with it, and it isn't working. If I just type the data into the
    panels and such, it moves up and down and opens and closes (very
    cool) with xml, it is all open (not so cool). I can not seem to
    find any examples of what I am trying to achieve so do not know if
    It is possible.
    could someone please help me?
    also, is there a location where the spry js files are on
    adobe website that I can download new ones?

    Hi there Karen, don't sweat the Spry.
    This tutorials may not be to the exactness of your project,
    though I highly recommend them because they explain in a way that
    will leave you knowledgeable.
    This one is a step by step gallery by Don Booth. My ability
    to work with the whole increased after this. :
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/spry_photo_album.html
    Here's a page you should view and bookmark:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/spry/
    This is where you can download the spry files:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/
    Click around inside, there are demos and leads to lots of
    information.
    If you have specific issues, pass us some code or a link
    where the issue can be seen. It helps others better understand
    what's happening in the details.

  • Zen V Plus freeze on file trans

    To whom it may concern,?I'd like to preface this post by stating that I'm very experienced with computers (I build?systems for a living). I've tried my brand new Zen V Plus on 3 different computers and am experiencing random freezes on each one. My family has?2 iPods, a Dell player, an iRi'ver and a Disney Mix Max between us. I have never had ANY problems uploading and synching with any of these players. I've also plugged-n-played several of my friends players -- never a problem.
    I just spent 4 days (about 20 hours) trying to get my Zen to not freeze. I have?tried?EVERY suggestion on?ALL the forums and Creative's troubleshooting pages. I also have a bunch of my own?diagnosing tricks?up my sleeve. When my Zen freezes, I can only access the player by formatting. When I reload my files, it randomly shuts off, and freezes when it tries to re-build the library after a reset. To say I'm dissapointed is an understatement. I did a lot of research and the Zen seemed like the perfect player for me. It hurts to post this, but I hope future owners having these problems will read this and realize not to waste their time. Sincerely,a future former Zen V Plus owner?

    Hi jimmyboy88,? I am familiar with the reset hole.
    Is Creative aware that you are posting a link on your site that suggests users disassemble their players and void their warranties?As a professional troubleshooter, this is unacceptable. After resetting, my player freezes when trying to re-build the library. According to Creative's support pages, this would suggest corrupt data. Only after I reformat, I'll try to re-load the file that it froze on and it will load and play fine. It will freeze randomly on any file. And why do my files load perfectly on 4 other players and 3 other computers?I've upgraded the firmware, made sure I have all the WinXP updates, Creative software updates, tried 0 different USB ports among 3 computers, made all the suggested operating system tweaks, tried 4 different USB cables,? and ran some USB port diagnosing software. The fact is, the Zen V plus will randomly freeze. Sometimes it freezes at 2GB, sometimes at 2 MB of data. Once the Zen freezes, I reset, and it will hang on re-building the library every time. In recovery mode, the player will hang when I try to Clean. After I re-format, I'm able to gain access again and load files, but it freezes every time I try to load it up again. I have many years experience troubleshooting hardware & software. In my professional business, I would never?spend so much time on one unit. My only conclusion is that it is a firmware problem. I would take a look at the code and see what the problem is, but I'm not on Creative's payroll. On a more positi've note, the Zen V Plus looks like it would make a nice doorstop.

  • Microphoto Freezes and Shuts Down During File trans

    I just bought my Creative Zen Microphoto a week ago and was pumped when I got. It worked fine for a couple of days, I didn't have a problem transfering the music through windows media player 0. everything worked fine and i was really happy with it. however, after i uninstalled it and upgraded to wmp version the microphoto FREEZES and SHUTS DOWN during file transfers. I went to the recovery menu and reformatted it and cleaned it up. I tried it again and the same thing happened. It transfered about 25 songs and just froze adn does nothing. I have tried anything and everything . PLEASE, SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!! Thanks, Jon

    Jason, thanks for trying your help but I'm thinking now it has something to do with the hard dri've failing. But that doesnt make since becase the player still turns on fine and it still works, like i can still use the radio etc. i just can' transfer music. i installed the windows media pack thing and that didn't work. i just don't know what to do anymore. should i install the creative software that i got with my player or would that not matter? i deleted it i just think that it would not matter. it didn't seem to work when i had it installed i stil had the same problems. i just don't know what to do right now jason i am running out of ideas?

  • Confusion saving files.....

    How/where you initialise the person array?
    What is the o/p of line
    System.out.print(person.name); ?
    Will you pls. post some more code so that we can know which are global values.

  • Getting the average of a set of numbers, confused by file IO, please help!

    What i need to do is get the average of a set of numbers, the problem is that i am reading these numbers in from files in different directories where each file returns a number, and the average for the directory is the numbers for each file in that directory added together and divided by the number of files in that directory.
    public static HashMap readDir(File path, HashMap map) throws IOException{
            File files[] = path.listFiles();
            float totalForDirectory = 0;
             int common = 0;
             int count = 0;
                    if(files != null && files.length > 0) {
                              for(int i=0; i<files.length; i++) {
                                    if(files.isDirectory()) {
    readDir(files[i], map);
    } else {
    //trying to count the number of files in the directory
    count++;
    totalForDirectory =(total(common, totalF1(), totalF2(files[i])));
    readFile(files[i]);
    //will contain pathname, and the average
    map.put(path.getCanonicalPath(), totalForDirectory);
    return map;
    In the above code, totalForDirectory contains the number for each file, i want to add together the result of this variable for each file, "file[i]" in the directory, and divide that by the number of files in that directory.
    Id appreciate any help
    Thanks

    What you want, It seems to me, is a recursive routine (for directories) which returns both a total and a filecount. Then these can be totalled at each level (togther with the count for each file).
    Probably the best approach is to pass a small object in which the totals are accumulated.
    Define a class something like:
    public class Accumulator {
       int count;
       int total;
       public double mean() {
          return total / count;
      public void add(Accumulator add) {
         count += add.count;
         total += add.total;
       public void add(int numberFromFile) {
          count++;
         total += numberFromFile();
      }Create an instance of this at the start of your scan directory method, and pass it when you call make the recursion. At the end of the scan the method would use the first add method to add it's local totals to the hight level total.
    Obviously you create an Accumulator for the first scan directory call which becomes the grand total.

  • Zen Touch crashes during file trans

    My Creative Zen Touch already crashed twice during file trasfer with Zen Touch Media Explorer. What should I do?

    I have had exactly the same problem. My zen has crashed, or both my pc and zen have crashed during file transfer. I have formatted my zen, re installed firmware and ran clean up too. I have tried my zen on another computer and the same thing happened. I have all the up to date drivers and programs. I cannot work out what the problem is at all, other than there are physical errors on my zen. I have only had it for about a year too. I just hope this can be sorted because I know exactly how annoying it is for an expensi've product to throw up problems.

  • Confused over files

    I'm relatively new to Mac after using MS for a number of years. I'm so impressed, though, I'm working telling Bill Gates goodbye forever.
    As part of working toward that project, I tried transferring a group of folders/subfolders from PC to Mac by copying to a CD, then inserting into a new folder on the Mac. However, I cannot manipulate the files (all MS "doc"). I can open a file, but it opens as a "read only." And I am unable to create a new file and save it in the folder. When I try to do so, I get the error message newfile.doc does not exist. I am using NeoOffice 2.2 to write/read the files and trying to save them as MS Word 95.
    What do i need to do to be able to use these files on the Mac as I did on the PC, which is running XP Home.
    Many thanks

    That happens at times, particularly from PC formatted CDs or DVDs. Even though the files are now on the hard drive, they maintain their read only status as if they were still on the CD or DVD.
    Close all of the folders so all you can see are the top level folders of all the files you copied onto the hard drive. Highlight all of them and press CommandOptionI to call up the Multiple Item Get Info Box. Click on the check box for Lock to clear it. You may have to do it two or three times until it's off. Next, click the padlock at the lower right and enter your admin password. Click OK. Change the permissions for you to Read & Write. Close the Multiple Item Get Info Box by clicking the button at the top left (it's one of the few boxes you can't close with Command+W).
    Everything should now be unlocked and belong to you.

  • Zen V Plus freezing!! during file trans

    Hi everybody.
    i have a Zen V Plus GB and since i bought it (few months ago) i have the problem that the player just freeze during (big) file transfers. it happens more likely when i transfer files over 400-500mb to the player at once. but it also appears when transfering files one and one.
    after it freezes i just unplug the usb cable and i have to reset the player and select Format All and Clean Up (recovery mode) to bring the player to life again.
    i have send the player 2 times !! to the creative RMA and they just send it back to me (i received today) with an explanation that NO FAULT WAS FOUND but when i try to reproduce the fault IS there. the same problem over and over again.
    i also tested the player on other computers as well as on other usb cables and other operating systems but the problem remains.
    firmware is the newest, didnt make any difference..
    Please help me!? What can i do?!

    This is the same thing that has been happening to my Zen V Plus 4GB player. It is now in the hands of Creative repair for the second time. I only have a few more days of warranty left and I hope that this time when it gets back to me it is fixed. I did insist that they send me a prepaid shipping label for the second trip into the repair shop and I was firm in my request to either give me another player or replace the insides of the one I have. This time they have had the Zen V plus for two weeks and I have tried calling, with no luck. The automated site for RMA's hasn't been much help. We can't be the only ones with this problem and I hope that there will be an updated firmware somewhere down the line. I do own four other Zen V Plus 2GB players and haven't had any problems with them.
    Best wishes to you.

  • Zen Xtra and files trans

    Is it possible to transfer files from Zen Xtra to computer whitout drivers installation ? I've got Windows XP.

    No, not until the MTP firmware is ready.

  • Creative Vision M 60GB file trans

    Having sorted out the mp3 format I'm now having problems transfering the said files to my player. The system usually ends up crashing and I have to reset my Zen. The file transfer usually reads error but doesn't explain what has happened. Anyone help?

    I guess something is wrong with the USB port in the ZEN Vision:M. How long did you own this player? You probably might want to get someone to have it looked at and repaired.

         Absolute Path : 'D:\DOCUME~1\Admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\6a335dad-11b25ebea8d--800021601.upload'!But I can't find any file anywhere in my computer and there is nothing in Uploaded Files panel. How can I control the destination of uploaded files? is there something wrong?
