Confusion on oracle version

Hi.. i'm jalil..
I want to develop a system using studio.net 2005 that can use oracle,ms-sql,mysql and back-end data engine
I Have already test the connection using ms-sql(MSDE) and my-sql it work fine
now i want to test the same thing on oracle engine so which version oracle i can use for this purpose as i see many version of oracle expreee, lite and enterprise and so on..
i want to test for multi user from 1-5 is enough.. and database size dosent matter as long as i can test for a few thousand records...
yesterday i download oralce express and install it.. but i dont any tool for me to manage the object in the database.. do i have to do it all using sql statement cause for msde and mysql there have a free tools that can be used to manage the database (GUI) .
any suggestion or solution
thanks

Hi Jalil. From your description I think that Oracle Database Express will do for you. There is the SQL Command Line, as you have discovered. There is also a graphical user interface built into the database itself, that you can access from any browser. From your desktop (on the machine where you installed Oracle Express), click on the Icon called Go To Database Homepage. Once the home page has launched in your Browser, logon and click on the button called Object Browser. Here you can create tables, indexes, stored procedures etc.
You can see how to do this using the online help. As you are new to Oracle, you may also want to check out the online tutorial at http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/tutorial/DBXETutorial/index.htm
Documentation for XE is also available at http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/portal.all_books
You may want to check out the Getting Started guide - see http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/to_toc?pathname=admin.102%2Fb25610%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Getting+Started%29
And lastly, welcome to Oracle

I see that there are several not needed date to char conversions. I could imaging that they confuse the query merge mechanism. Other than that: try to strip down the query to the smallest posisble set of colum combination. So that you can see where the error comes from.

  • Transportable tablespace accross different oracle versions

    Hi
Do I need same oracle versions if I want to transport tablespaces ?
    i.e Can I transport tablespaces from oracle9i to oracle 11g ? or from oracle 10g to oracle 11g ?
I read the documents however Im still confused.

Thanks, I have read the document and notice that from oracle 10g and onwards I can transport tablespaces accross different oracle versions.
I think we can change the endian format via rman hence no need to have same endian format
"Beginning with the Oracle10g database, a tablespace can always be transported to a database with the same or higher compatibility setting, whether the target database is on the same or a different platform."

  • Request help for confusion over Oracle single instance database

    Hello all,
Following Oracle version was installed at the client site @ the moment
Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) on Non-Clustered enviornment.
The clients are going to arrange another identical server and wants to configure it with 2 nodes windows cluster enviornement.
The current server where Oracle server was installed will become active node of the cluster.
The confusion is if we should install the following version on node 2
Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
    or
node 2 should also be installed with
    Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) version ?
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/111060-win64soft-099656.html
Any help for removing confusion would be appreciated
    Thanks,

I think it's first needed to think about what kind of configuration you want; Failsafe, DataGuard or even RAC? But you talk about clustered and an active node, so I take it the object is to create a Failsafe cluster.
If you want to use FailSafe first read about it, for example use http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/index-082893.html (Resources: Documentation)

    Do you have a

If you are using sqlplus command in the sql file, then just suppress the ouput with -SILENT option or -s.

  • How to find out the Oracle Version in Windows platform (OS level)

  • Steps to upgrade my Oracle version from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.1 in windows.

Can anyone help me with the steps to upgrade my Oracle version from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.1 in windows.
    Thanks in advance.

If you are going to upgrade, you should upgrade to the latest 11gR2 patchset (currently 11.2.0.4). At a high level -
    1. Install 11.2.0.4 into a new separate ORACLE_HOME - see MOS Doc 1562139.1 and Contents
    2. Apply the latest 11.2.0.4 PSU bundle available for Windows - see MOS Doc 1454618.1
    3. Use DBUA to perform the upgrade - MOS Doc 870814.1 and Contents

  • How to find out what Oracle version?

    Hi,
Could anyone tell me how to find out what Oracle version is on your AIX/Unix machine? It looks like Oracle Installer doesn't use the native OS installation(installp, pkgadd) process, so I can't use lslpp/pkginfo to find out what filesets are installed.
    Thanks
    HQ.

    Hi!
As far ar Oracle version is concerned, you can find it at the database level after connecting to the database
    select * from v$version;
i am not sure if there is someway to find at the o/s level.
    Good luck

But if you want to disable it, Coskan had published a small post mentioning an undocumented parameter(which means you must think twice before using it) to disable it- disablehealth_check* . • Index rebuild in oracle version 8i

    Hi All
Is there any other way we know which indexes we can rebuild in a database which is using RBO in oracle version 8
we dont want to analyze those indexes
    Thanks

Why it is a condition that you don't want to go for analyze of the indexes? The answer to the question is almost "never".It really needs to be quantified that the rebuild will be of some benefit. On what benchmark you want to go for rebuild ofthe index?

  • Upgrade oracle version 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.4

    Hello,
We are planning an upgrade of our CRM platform (CRM 5.0) with oracle version 10.1.0.4 to CRM 2007.
I was wondering which oracle version i would upgrade to : 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.4 ?
What do you guys think is the best/stable version ?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Rgds,
    Marc.

    Hello Marc,
i think you are mixing up two things
    10.1.0.4 = 10g R1 with Patchset 4
    10.2.0.2 = 10g R2 with Patchset 2
    10.2.0.4 = 10g R2 with Patchset 4
So you always upgrade from 10g R1 to 10g R2 .. and then is the question which Patchset for 10g R2.
I would use 10gR2 with Patchset 4, because there are some nice features and not so many bug fixes to apply.

    Stefan

  • Control file version 10.2.0.1.0 incompatible with ORACLE version 10.2.0.0.

    hi;
I'm totally new to the oracle databases field...am trying to startup the database using the parameter file init.ora by using the command
    startup pfile='/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/init.ora'
But its giving me the following error:
ORA-00201: control file version 10.2.0.1.0 incompatible with ORACLE version
    10.2.0.0.0
    ORA-00202: control file:
    '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/control01.ctl'
Can anyone help me with this error?
    Thanks!

startup pfile='/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/init.ora'You are most likely using the wrong init.ora file. Get a list of files at /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/
For the database ORACLE_SID that you are attempting to startup, there would be an initSID.ora or spfileSID.ora
e.g. if the ORACLE_SID is PROD, the file would be initPROD.ora or spfilePROD.ora
The spfileSID.ora is a binary file and should not be accessed by a text-editor.

    Thanks.
    Best Regards.

    Hi,
Solaris 10 on which platform (runs on SPARC,x86,x86-64)? Anyway, the answer is simple: On SPARC runs

Oracle Database 9iR2 (with 9.2.0.6 Patchset) for Sun Solaris SPARC64
Oracle Database 10gR1 (with 10.1.0.3 Patchset) for Sun Solaris SPARC64
10gR2 Database for Sun Solaris SPARC64
