Confusion on WLAN and3g

Hi I am using N 78 in UAE dubai
I get this 3G network sign on left top side which is always there but i am not using any 3g application.
How can i disable it as i think last month i got a bill of 20 dollars of data package though i didnt use it.
Please let me know about it
Also when i am using WLAN it shows me 3G Is it Wlan or 3G
Please help
Rakesh

The "3G" on your screen simply means that 3G is available. It doesn't mean you're using it unless you see two arrows underneath it (refer to your manual for the meaning of all the icons that can appear on your screen.
If you were billed for packet data then you were not using your WLAN at that time. There's no way your mobile network operator can know that you're using your own WLAN at home and bill you for it.

  • WLC config dubt

    Dear All,
I am writing the wlc configuration on the paper, I do not have yet the wlc 5508 here. It is the first time that i configure a wlc.
I have choose to connect the wlc to two different cisco 3750 that will be the core of a small network (30 users)
To connect the wlc I have choose to do not use LAG but to configure two different APMANAGER1 and APMANAGER2, then i have assigned them two port1 and port2:
    config interface create APMANAGER1 99
    config interface address APMANAGER1 172.26.104.2 255.255.255.0 172.26.104.1 <-------this is the core1 layer 3 interface ip address
    config interface vlan APMANAGER1 99
    config interface port APMANAGER1 port1
    config interface dhcp APMANAGER1 172.26.100.61 172.26.100.62
    config interface ap-manager APMANAGER1 enable
    config interface create APMANAGER2 99
    config interface address APMANAGER2 172.26.104.3 255.255.255.0 172.26.104.254 <-------this is the core2 layer 3 interface ip address
    config interface vlan APMANAGER2 99
    config interface port APMANAGER2 port2
    config interface dhcp APMANAGER2 172.26.100.61 172.26.100.62
    config interface ap-manager APMANAGER2 enable
then I have configured 16 different wlan such as:
    config interface address Direzione 172.26.100.98 255.255.255.224 172.26.100.97
    config interface vlan Direzione 5
config interface dhcp Direzione 172.26.100.61 172.26.100.62
config interface quarantine vlan Quarantena 23
    config wlan enable 5
My question is how I can assign each wlan to both APMANAGER? If one of the two port1 and port2 fails I want tha all wlan take over on the aviable port.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Igor.

You're confused on several notions :
-Most minor is that the management interface on the 5508 (only this model) also acts as an ap manager. So you just need to create one extra ap manager to have 2.
-Then there's the big confusion between wlan (SSID) and interface/vlan. You said :
then I have configured 16 different wlan such as:
    config interface address Direzione 172.26.100.98 255.255.255.224 172.26.100.97
    config interface vlan Direzione 5
config interface dhcp Direzione 172.26.100.61 172.26.100.62
config interface quarantine vlan Quarantena 23
    config wlan enable 5
This is an interface configuration. Not a wlan/SSID configuration. But your last command is to enable SSID 5 although you are not showing the commands to create an SSID 5 with appropriate WPA settings and so on ...
-Last confusion is that ap managers are interface with which the APs are building their tunnel towards the WLC. It has nothing to do with client traffic. So you cannot bind an ap manager to SSIDs or dynamic interfaces.
Just have one AP manager configured on each port. If one port fails. All the APs who joined through that port/ap manager (logically 50% of the APs) will be disconnected and quicly reconnect through the other ap manager interface. Nothing else to do.

  • WLAN Controller DHCP confusion.

    Hello all.
I am slightly confused as the DHCP configuration on the WLAN controllers. I have created WLAN SSID 'test' assigned to dynamic interface 'test' using vlan 410. I want my WLAN clients to use DHCP to get their IP addresses when associated/authenticated to SSID 'test'.
My confusion is where to do this. I see that I can do this on BOTH the SSID (WLANs>Edit>Advanced) AND the interface (CONTROLLER>Interfaces). Why is there two places to do this and what is the difference between the two?
I am using software version 4.1.171.0.
    Many thanks for any help
    Darren

    Ankur,
I'm setting up a school system with a WLC located at the central school board site and 1142APs setup at each remote school campus.  Each of the eight remote school campus has it's own DHCP server for local 10.X.X.X IP addresses.  As a result of using Class A 10.1.0.0/16, 10.2.0.0/16, 10.3.0.0/16  etc network addresses at each remote school campus there should be more than enough addresses available for both remote campus school hardware and student clients.
The issue I have is everything in currently configured for a single VLAN, VLAN 1.  I would like to configure a separate WLAN for teachers/staff, WLAN for students, and WLAN for TechSupport and put each of those WLANs in it's own VLAN for security and performance reasons.  Since each remote campus has a single DHCP server should I create separate scope's in the existing MS DHCP server, use a combination of internal and external DHCP servers (ie internal for wireless clients, external for everything else), or standup an additional MS server at each remote site?
Also, ifor each WLAN interface created and associated interface into that WLAN there will need to be a separate VLAN created on the L3 device so it can direct traffic to the centrally located WLC, right?
So many DHCP servers, so little time....  Any direction you can send my way will be greatly appreciated.
    Warm Regards,
    Michael

  • How to enable WLAN on Satellite 2410-504?

    Hello,
please could you help me I am a little bewildered. I would like to wifi enable my laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite s2410-504. If you know what this laptops short name is that would really help me. I don think it has a centrino chip so I think I will need to wi-fi enable it. I have researched it on the web but I am confused by terms like cardbus. Does my laptop have a cardbus? If not, how will I wi-fi enable my laptop?
Any suggestions for a competitively priced product (is it a chip or what?)
    Thanks.

If the unit can be upgraded with the minPCI WLan card so mostly the slot for a WLan card is placed at the bottom of the unit.
Im not 100% sure if its WLan ready or not.
However, if its possible to upgrade the notebook with the minPCI WLan card so you can order this form the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country.
If its not possible to upgrade it so I would recommend switching to the external solution like a USB WLan stick
Such sticks are not very expensive and very easy to use

  • Satellite Pro A200 PSAE4E - WLan speed regularly drops out

    Hi
Does anyone know what causes my laptop to lose wifi on a regular basis? It is a Satellite Pro A200 PSAE4E running on XP. I purchased the laptop new back in February and it came with Vista loaded but the wifi kept dropping out and was advise to swap to XP as it was more stable.
When the wifi drops, the Wirless Connection Icon disappears completely from the sys tray as though it never existed although the wifi light just under the front edge remains on. Looking in the network connection in the control panel the wifi is not listed.
I have to shut down the laptop and reboot so that I can carry on working online.
I've downloaded the latest driver for the Atheros AR5007EG and I rang Toshiba support.
Anyone got any ideas - I'm disappointed with the performance of the WLan.

Ive got the same model, and had the same issue with the Wireless Card today (otherwise its been fine for 4 months). I was confused by the card not appearing in the device manager - like it was totally wiped from the system. I rebooted a few times and it did still not appear.
Left the laptop and did something else for a while, and on rebooting the card reappeared and the Wireless connection was remade.
I also have the same question: What causes all trace of a device to disappear - rather than the card to be shown but with an exclaimation mark showing there was some sort of conflict which might help us to sort the cause of the problem.
Have you had any help from anywhere else?

  • Strange WLAN issue - can't access secure sites

    Hi!
I've just bought a Toshiba L100-120. Everything is fine except the following.
I can't access secure sites with the built-in Intel 3945abg device. Other sites are OK.
If i connect LAN, everything is fine. If I insert my PCMCIA-wireless card, also everything works. The only problem is: to access secure sites with the Intel wireless device.
I already changed the drivers, I tried everything. It's very strange :(
Many thanks if anybody has an idea!!!!

    Hi
Im a little bit confused. Do you mean the secured WLan or secured internet websites????
If you cannot enter the secured, encrypted WLan you need to enter the right key.
In other case if some websites are not displayed you could try to change the IE privacy settings for the Internet zone.

  • Fragmentation problem with Wlan Controler 4402 due to LWAPP header overhead

    Hello there,
    I have following situation.
    network---wlan controller4402----FW1---MPLS---FW2---Access points----networks
I can see very big amount of fragmented packets coming to FW2 and getting dropped in one moment. After those packets get dropped, access points get disconnected
I wonder, is there any documentation, or maybe some of you guys can give me some tip/trick how to set up WLC4402 to use TCP MSS, PMTU or any other settings that can help that IP Datagrams between 4402 and access points don't go over 1300B
Thanks a lot for any help
    Regards
    Milos

    Hello,
    Thanks for your response.
I'm a bit confused watching this document you gave me. I don't know which part of it can be related to prevention of IP Fragments between controller and AP-s.
Problem is that controller is located on one side of the network, and we have FW (non cisco), MPLS network, other FW and then APs
other FW across MPLS receive a lot of fragments, which of course should be defragmented for session inspection, so this leads to large CPU utilization and fragment drops.
If we can instruct controller to set MSS bits or to be involved in PMTU, then we could try to prevent end hosts to ever create large TCP/UDP segments/datagrams to be sent via LWAPP tunnel
    Thanks for any advice
    Cheers

  • 5800 email client confuses me - or is it buggy?

    Have just started using Nokia email client (latest update) for push Gmail email and find the settings confusing. Two problems;
    1) 'When to sync' is set to 07.30-22.00. Despite this, it checks email every four hours during the night (waking me up).
    2) I keep seeing the WLAN connected. I guess the email should be activating it every four hours to check for email, but then should it not switch it off? I tried manually disconnecting it several times but it would switch right back on.
Final question for anyone that really knows this email client. How is 'roaming' defined? Does it mean when you are out of your 'home network'? If so, how do you set a home network? And is home network only a WLAN??
Thanks in advance for any help.
Now running a 701, beautiful phone to handle and use...now that it has stopped sending my personal information to Nokia via 360Panel [rolls eyes]

Well, thanks very much Nokia for moving my post over into this forum - which no-one seems to read. The general N series forum is much better for answers.
Am giving up on the Nokia email client, it just does not seem to work reliably. For example, even though its definitely set to send/receive ever 4 hours it seems to keep the 3g connection or wireless on all the time and collect emails dynamically. Not ideal. Also, I wish the Help was more detailed. The stuff about roaming, home network etc I still can't understand.
So uninstalling it, going to try Emoze from the Ovi store instead.

  • Guest wlan design questions

I need to setup a guest wlan on a single 5508 controller. Currently all of my ap's are in h-reap mode and all in remote buildings connected via a high speed wireless wan.
The guest network could consist of 500 users in the near future, so i'm wondering what is the best way to configure the guest wlan so I don't have one big broadcast domain across my entire network?

Ok. I already have my ap's in ap groups (per building) and I have different vlans in each building with the same ssid company wide. I'm doing this via h-reap.
My question is how do I accomplish the same thing with the guest wlan, but without h-reap. Or do i use h-reap and just setup acl's to block the traffic? But then does web authentication work the same?
The confusion for me comes in at the controller level with the guest-wlan interface I created having to be attached to a vlan. Is this not needed to do web authentication?
    Thanks,
    Dan.

  • WLC 5508 , AP client dhcp address different from WLAN interface VLAN subnet?

Hope the title makes sense, here's my situation: I have multiple businesses on 1 WLC 5508, there's a LAG to my core switch with seperate interfaces for each, broken up by vlans.
My question is: if i have a WLAN setup to use interface "Company A" which is vlan 10 with an ip of 10.0.1.5 which then points to 10.0.1.10 for dhcp.
Can the WLAN client connecting to the Company A WLAN use an IP in a different IP range?(192.168.1.10?) can the wlc route? from the perspective of the DHCP server where doers the request come from? (10.0.1.5?)
Can the DHCP server 10.0.10.10 on vlan 10 respond back with and ip on a different subnet to assign to the client to use and still be fully fonctioning? would the default gateway for the client need to be 10.0.1.5?  So the clients ip would be 192.168.1.10 /24 with a gateway of 10.0.1.5 (ip adress fo vlan10 interface on WLC) And if multiple clients on the same subnet wanted to talk to each other woudl the WLC know how to route them to each other without passing through the default gateway?
Sorry if this is confusing I'm having a bit of a hard time explaining it in works, i can try and draw somethign up if it makes more sense.
    thanks
    Eric

I think if you want these clients to stick to a WLAN configured on a VLAN that has a different IP addressing you could configure your VLAN with the normal IP addressing then add on the SVI the 2nd IP_Class_default_gateway.
    E.G.
    Vlan 10
    interface vlan 10
    ip address 10.0.10.1 255.255.255.0
    ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
Clients that receive IP address from 192.168.1.0/24 network will be able to reach 192.168.1.1 and all traffic will pass right.

  • 5800 wont download using wlan

When at home i connect my 5800 xm to my wlan to use the internet and download apps. but for some reason when ever i am downloading anything (eg just updated ovi maps) it will connect to t-mobile internet to download although i can see that my homes sky broadband is still connected. is there a setting somewhere that i should use to make sure when at home all internet is done through home broadband and wlan. my priorities are showing that my sky wlan is top so i am really confused.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Grimbo80
I don't know whether this is a T-Mobile branded version and trying to make you utilize a network connection.  Try starting a browsing session > Options > Settings > General > Access Point > change to "Always ask" and then you should see WLAN under "Internet" banner when you try to access web.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Voice over WLAN - Cisco 2504 and iPhones/Androids

    All:
I'm working on a solution for someone who already has a Cisco WLC 2504 running 7.6.100 and 2602i APs.  They are running iPhones with a SIP application instead of purchasing Cisco 7925G phones.  They are having issues when roaming to different APs.
Site survey is good.  I also used a laptop with Net Surveyor on it - signal looks good.  SNR is good.  They used to have coverage issues as well but I got that taken care of for them.  Only issue now is roaming.
    WLAN SSID:
    -Qos: Platinum
    -FT-PSK and PSK enabled
    802.11a/n/ac Radio:
-Client Roaming: -67dBm for RSSI threshold and -62dBm for scanning threshold.
-Disabled 6mbps and 9mbps and 12 mbps is set to mandatory.  All others are supported
    802.11b/g/n Radio:
-Client Roaming: -67dBm for RSSI threshold and -62dBm for scanning threshold.
-Disabled 1mbps - 12mbps.  18mbps set to mandatory.  All others are supported
Switch to which WLC is connected:
-switch ports used to connect to the controller are set to trust CoS and ports to APs and uplinks are set to trust DSCP.
With these setting changes - I believe most everything else is default.  I am confused about the following:
    -Best practice link - http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/vowlan/troubleshooting/vowlan_troubleshoot/2_Gen_Troubleshooting_Guidelines.html
Says to configure voice WLAN to use 802.11a.  Issues with that: Some Android's could not connect AND the big one - I am not able to set Qos to use 802.1p for the SIP WLAN.  It tells me to disable 802.11a and 802.11b.  If I go into each radio on 'Network' tab and disable these - NOTHING can connect to any SSID.  So unless I've misunderstood something - this is a contradiction in the best-practice link I posted above.
another question:  If I enable FT-PSK and PSK - for devices that support FT-PSK (which i'm under the impression is 802.11r) will these devices use that and for devices that don't they'll use 'regular' PSK?  How do I know if my client is connecting using PSK or FT-PSK as both are enabled on the same WLAN.
Again - only issue is roaming.  I second or two of 'choppy' voice then everything is back to normal working as expected.  Any ideas as to what else I can enable to get these iPhones to roam better - if this is even possible.  Can iPhones roam using a SIP app with zero voice interruption?  This is the equipment that they got and can't get anything else so I got to make the best of this.  Perhaps I've already done that?  Any ideas/suggestions are very much appreciated.

    Hi
Before any other think  I would like you to upgrade your WLC image to 7.6.130.0 & FUS to 1.9.0.0. FUS upgrade will require 30-40min downtime to your wireless.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_OL-31390-01.html
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn76mr03.html
It tells me to disable 802.11a and 802.11b. If I go into each radio on 'Network' tab and disable these - NOTHING can connect to any SSID. So unless I've misunderstood something - this is a contradiction in the best-practice link I posted above,
This simply says, you have to disable radio band before changing QoS profile values. Once you change those value you can re-enable the radio band. :)
If I enable FT-PSK and PSK - for devices that support FT-PSK (which i'm under the impression is 802.11r) will these devices use that and for devices that don't they'll use 'regular' PSK? How do I know if my client is connecting using PSK or FT-PSK as both are enabled on the same WLAN.
Read these 802.11r post & you will understand how 802.11r works. There are certain client devices does not like PSK & FT-PSK capability advertise on the same SSID & may have connectivity issues. But most of the clients like iPhone, iPads, etc  will connect without any problems.

"show client detail <mac_address>" should indicate if client connected over FT-PSK or PSK.

  • Satellite A205-S5843: Unknown WLAN card & some buttons don't work

OK one problem im probably get laughed at the other not

The keys that don't work are the Z, R, Y, the arrow keys, the FN button, and the /? button.
It used to work and now it doesn't one site suggested that i hold the FN key and press the f11 button.
I did and it would work for 5 min or so and then nothing...now the FN don't work and im so confused and angry...this is my college laptop and it really hurts when i have to use the mouse to click the on screen keyboard all the time...plz help

    Hi
The A205-S5843 belongs to the US series.
I checked the hardware specifications on the Toshiba US page and it looks like this notebook has been equipped with the Atheros 802.11 b/g wireless-LAN card.
The Atheros Wlan driver can be downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page or from this Toshiba European WLan portal:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
    Regarding your keyboard/button issue.
Did you ensure that this is not a software problem?
I mean did you test if the notebooks keyboard/buttons would work using the original preinstalled Toshiba OS image?
In my personal opinion this strange keyboard behavior looks more like more hardware issue as software issue but its worth to check if the new installation would solve your problem
But if you will not notice any improvements then the keyboard should be checked by an authorized service partner.

  • Satellite L500: WLan drops out and doesnt work most of the time

hi everyone, i have a toshiba satellite L500 running windows 7. have been using iprimus internet, wirelessly, no problems for a few weeks, before that, was using it via ethernet cable as i didnth ave a wireless modem. my laptop was off charge the other night and went flat, next morning when i woke up and turned it on, it wouldnrt connect to the internet.. after hours and hours of phone calls to iprimus, and numerous winsock resets, ethernet cable testing, and modem resetting, they tell me that the problem is within my laptop...
So i rang toshiba.. and they got me to go into device managers, and then network adapters, and disable, actually uninstall the wireless drivers, then reinstall.. and it worked.. finally... (forgot to add with all the iprimus confusion someone had reset my passowrd and i had to configure that to the laptop..
so anyway, after all these calls, i did a complete restore of the laptop, and wiped everything and reinstalled it all, and therefore reinstalled the modem. this time in modem setup it was telling me the wireless network adapter was unplugged, and would only let me set it up via ethernet..
now earlier today i did have the internet.. but it dropped out randomly.. webpages will go slow, sometimes it will reconnect, other times it wont. now i thougbht i might try and uninstall and reinstall the modem again,s ame error, and this time, cant get on wirelessly at all.
ive googled to see if others ahve had this problem.. and seeing what other people wrote, i went into my battery settings, and checked the WLAN didnt go into sleep mode etc, and ive also checked everythings enabled. ive no idea what to do,, neither iprimus or Toshiba will give me any anwers, both companies are just blaming each other lol
    so i
it does appear to be my laptop, as all lights are on modem.. and iprimus keep telling me its not registering with them ( the disconnections) so it must be my wireless. though everytime my laptop dropped out of internet, so would my bfs iphone we were testing, and so did my other laptop which is partially stuffed but could normally still connect to the net.. so thats telling me its a modem problem.. ive no idea what to do.. and cant keep this via ethernet on the bench in this new hosue ive moved into,as with 2 kids under 3, thats just asking for trouble..
    anyone have any suggestion??
    thanks in advance

wel after many more phone calls to iprimus, i finally found a helpful indian, who ran me through the modem setup AGAIN like everyone else has, this time in its security settings, he got me to change the wireless signal channel from 2 to 9, said that would improve the signal, every other person when explaining the issues i was having, always told me to set it on 2.. so this has improved it dramatically in the day, but at night, particulary around 830pm, it drops out over and over and over...
would this just be a faulty modem, and perhaps buying oen from a harvery norman etc would be better?? or could it just be iprimus as a whole with there wireless coverage? im not in an iprimus area, theyve borrowed the lines of telstra or something.. so im on a crappier plan in this new house, and dont have adsl2 just 1500 speed. would this have anythign to do with the poor reception, or perhaps is there something in my house interfearing, or in my neighbors house? there is a satelite here, but no actual foxtel connected, looks as though it has been before. there is also an alarm here, not in use though.. ive not even seen if it turns on..

    Hello everyone,
Iv'e discovered something about this handset. Hope this can help you.
When I bought this handset, it automaticaly saved an acess point in my settings>configuration.
It was named after my network carrier. The name's "MyGlobe" or lets just call it "Config 1". I thought the phone automatically sent a request for gprs/mms settings like my old nokia phone. But I was wrong.
    This configuration have the ff:

When I use this settings and open an application that is internet dependent, the phone will prompt me what to use.
    Select internet connection:
        Search WLAN
        MyGlobe Connect
        Do not ask
If I'll choose WLAN, it will search for Wireless Access Points.
Then if I'll choose the second one, It will not connect me because It's not the real access point provided by my network carrier. It will only display an H or G but not inside the box. Thus when I choose this connection for my MMS, it wont allow me to retrieve it automatically.
What I did is request an access point from my network carrier and they give me this. The name is "Globe Prepaid" or "Config 2".

When it's my default configuration settings, and i will open an application that is internet  dependent, it wont promt me what access point to choose. It automaticaly uses 3G/GPRS connection even if i choose the settings that always ask me. And eventually it eats up my credits.
What I did is use Config 1 as my default config settings so I can use wifi so my network wont charge me. And when wifi is not available, I choose Config 2 so i can use 3G/GPRS as my access.
On MMS Settings under messaging settings, i set it as config 2 as the default.
Now I can retrieve MMS automaticaly and resolve my WLAN vs. 3G/GPRS problems.
If you have too many settings in your configuration, and you're kinda confused do this.
backup your phone first. Menu> Settings> Sync and Backup.
Delete all settings in the configuration> Default Configuration Settings.
Power off your phone, remove the battery for a while.
place it back and turn it on.
wait for a while so the phone will create the first access point.
when a settings shows up in the configuration and have its x-midlet-*name*, you have the settings that can choose WLAN or 3G/GPRS.
Remember the name or write it down.
Request an access point from your network provider if you want to use 3G/GPRS access.
I hope this can help you guys.

Check whether you have correct internet settings on your phone and you have activated them correctly. You need to select correct access point to use mini opera.
