Confusion when Synching with an old I-Pad

Hi Folks,
I bought an I-Pad and synched up my I-Tunes account with it. I returned the I-Pad because of a defect and got a new one. I synched up the new I-Pad with my I-Tunes account. Different serial numbers.
Now, when I try and synch it appears that I-Tunes is confused as to what I-Pad it should be synching with.
Is there a way to remove all existence between the old I-Pad serial number and I-Tunes.

The problem I have is when I hook up my I-Pad to my I-Tunes on my desktop I'm asked whether I would like to synch with my backup (I'm assuming my old I-Pad) or if I would like to restore to my new I-Pad.
When I go into Preferences/Devices, I don't even see any reference to my old I-Pad. I only see my new one.

Random duplicate events when synching with Google

Hi,
I have just set up iCal for the first time and asked it to synch with my Google Calendar. Somewhere between the two systems I have had hundreds of duplicate events set up. The problem seems to only occur on recurring events. The new events are sprinkled liberally all over my calendar with no hint of when the original even was set up for. For example one event occurs at least twice a week from January 1920 onwards, in my original calendar this was set up as an annual recurring event only last year.
When I try to delete the events I am told the request has failed with the following message:
The server responded with
“HTTP/1.1 500 Server error code: 4bf55f72”
to operation CalDAVDeleteEntityQueueableOperation.
Also I frequently find the synching circle is running round and iCal just stops working i.e. can't enter new events or check my calendar.
Any advice gratefully received!

Hi Jane,
You are getting errors from the Google Server. This suggests there are issues with the data contained within Google and not in iCal so there may not be much we can do from here. I would be curious to know if you go to one of those recurring events on Google, does it have an end date or does it go on forever? Does it have a start date that is odd (you mention 1920...are you sure that you don't see a very early start date on Google.com?)
That said lets try some basics:
What version of the Mac OS are you running on your computer (Apple Menu > About this Mac)?
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.

Duplicates when synching with gmail

I had been having a problem with duplications of contacts. When migrating my contacts from Address Book to GMail, the initial migration happens without error. Groups appear as they should and the entries within them are correct. When synching after the migration, though, iSync reports that there will be many duplications and quite a few deletions. The problem seems to be that the iSync is not noticing that duplicate contacts are within groups, and instead iSync wants to duplicate them yet again OUTSIDE the groups. In other words, everything gets screwed up when synching after the initial migration.
I'm synching contacts Address Book, Mobile Me, a Blackberry (via Missing Sync) and GMail.

Killed all the Google contacts again, uploaded the contents of my Address Book and the next sync attempted wanted to add 144 contacts and modify 352 of them. When I checked the ones the sync dialogue wanted to modify using the before/after switch, it was claiming that the Address Book entries only had one line in them, usually just the name, when I checked the actual entry it had every field filled out, name, address, telephone numbers etc. What gives?

Key Photo lost when synching with iOS devices

I have noticed that in the last months, when I synch my iPhoto Events with my iPhone one iPad, the Events on iOS devices are not labelled by the same key photos I have on the MAC on iPhoto.
Does anybody know the reason?

The iphone/ipad is not a backup/storage device. They simply mirror the selected content of the computer to which you sync.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.

3Gs erratically deletes calendar items when synching with iTunes

Serious problem. I sync to MacBook Air with iTunes. Process ends up "randomly" deleting appointments. Sometimes lose an entire month's items. How can I stop this from happening?

I know this doesn't help, but I have a similar problem. Most people want to know how to delete old calendar entries. I want to know how to stop my iPhone automatically deleting them (all except repeated events like birthdays) more than a couple of months old. My calendar is like a diary, I want to be able to check back when I had a meeting, a trip, lunch... and I have it on my computer, but why should iPhone delete stuff without instructions?

Damaged music files when synched with Ipod

Hi
I have a Mac Book Pro, and an 80GB Ipod Video. When I synch between Ipod and Itunes, some of the music tracks get damaged. Parts of the songs dont play properly for a few seconds then revert back to normal. I assume this is when it is being written to the Ipod disc, but how do I ensure seemless transfer?

OK,
After hours of working on this I beleive I have figured out how the iPod organizes photos if your a syncing it with a windows directory.
The iPod uses the order in which the opertating system stores the photos in the file directory. What this means is renaming the files has no impact.
However, if you rename them in the order you want them, then do a select All, which is normally control-A, then drag them to a new folder, the operating system will then copy them by their alphabetic name into the new folder (You may have to be view the original folder sorted by name.)
Now in this new folder the operating system has stored them in the file system in the same order as they were named.
Now set the iPod photo sync directory to this directory and it should work.
Here is a second tip. There is an awesome shareware utility called irfanview www.irfanview.com This utility will allow you to rename an entire group of files with, for example, the date the pictures were shot.
After renaming, do a select all and copy to a new directory. Then link the iPod to this new directory and you will have the photos on your iPod in the order they were shot.

Tasks re-sorting in the MPP file when synching with SharePoint task list

When synchronizing the MPP file with the ShPt task list, we have seen tasks re-sorting in the MPP file. Very annoying, especially with schedules with a large number of tasks. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue, and if you
could point me in the right direction for solving it. FYI, listing below my signature the columns we are synchronizing (in case you know of an issue with one or more of these).
FYI, we are using MS Project 2013 Pro and SharePoint 2010. We tried using the synch feature with MSP 2010 and it did not seem to be available.

The resource is created as a new resource with no security group and no loggin account, meaning it is strictly a resource and not a user. So this resource can be assigned on others projects but cannot connect to PS in any way (thus does not consume a CAL)
unless you convert it into a user by adding a valid account and a security group.

Will a new A9K-RSP-4G be also repartitioned when synching with an RSP that had a 'run repart -d' process done ?

To prepare for a costumer A9K upgrade from 4.2.3 to 4.3.4, we had to do a 'run repart -d' to increase disk space (from 1.5 to 1.8G) to accommodate the new software before removing the old one. We understood that now every new RSP that was installed in this network would require us to do a repartitioning first before placing the card in a production equipment. But, when we place the new cards (new coming from factory) in a A9K where a repartitioned RSP is already active, the new card will do the normal sync process and when it finishes it also has the 1.8G of free space. We have already tried it with 3 cards, and always the same outcome. Anyone can confirm if this is the expected behaviour or something else ?

Yes, that should not be a problem though.
A problem could arise if the active RSP is repartitioned and the standby that is syncing is not repartitioned; in this case if the active has around 1.8GB utilized then the standby which has 1.5GB available would be unable to sync. If this is the case and the RSP fails to sync up then we do have a ROMMON trick to make this work but its recommended TAC be on the call to do that trick.
Filesystem mount is a normal message. These messages just tell us if the various FSs mount correctly.
As another note, in order to repartition we either have to issue a command from CLI or use the previously mentioned trick to do the repartition. There is aROMMON variable for formatting the disk, but it does not trigger a repartition, just a format. Without any of these all the syncing does is rm's and writes to the disk, but not the filesystem/partition tables themselves.

Contacts and calendar lost when synching with new itunes

All my contacts have been wiped! With new Windows 8.1 laptop and latest itunes downloaded I synced my iphone3 and all my contacts have been wiped from iphone, ipad and icloud. Added to that my Outlook calendar has gone from Outlook and only available on icloud. Help!

Copy them from the old computer to the new computer.
iPhones are not backup/storage devices.

Help - importing album that when synched with store gives wrong info

This has happened a few times, when I am importing one of my own discs, and i-tunes gets the track names etc from online, it offers me a number of options of discs with the same name, but without the option of seeing any more details about them. So I pick one, and it turns out that the track names are all in Chinese (or German, or just wrong). How do I remove the association with that disc and go back and associate it with the other disc (always hoping it will be right!), or do I just have to do it by hand and type the right track names in myself?

I am just astounded that this is the only solution. It would be such an easy thing for iTunes to have a check box, so that you could automatically keep tracks all on the same album regardless of artist.
I have already imported my music and will have to now redo it with the amendments to each album as you suggested. I have hundreds of albums and this will take some time.

IPad Mail app produces empty emails when synched with Yahoo Mail

When I sync my iPad's Mail app with my AT&T/YaHoo web mail account, dozens of identical emails appear in my iPad Mail Inbox. All are marked (No Sender), (No Subject) and "This message has no content" and show 12/31/69 as the "Sent" date. Clicking on them opens a blank viewing page in the right pane with the notation "No Message Selected". They are all marked Unread. When I select Edit in the left pane, no circle appears to the left of these emails so they cannot be selected and moved or deleted. These strange emails do not hinder my use of Mail but their presence aggravates me. I'd like to get rid of them and also find out why they are appearing. I've tried hard booting. This problem is unique to my iPad; Mail works fine on my iMac. Syncing my iPad to my iMac does not get rid of the strange emails. I do not sync to Cloud.

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this! I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did. Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double check! All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)

HT1351 cannot get album artwork when synching with new 160gb ipod

I have recently bought a 160gb classic ipod and cannot synch my album artwork. Driving me crazy, can anyone help?

I had this same trouble.
I was handling everything manually and therefore only had the tunes on the ipod.
Once I upgraded I could no longer see the art on the ipod - but could still see it in itunes.
The only way to correct it was to empty the ipod and reload all 11,000 tunes in itunes then back in the ipod.
I lost all my playlists (over 100!) but when I sync up I can now see the art on the ipod.
I don't like having over 40g on my desktop - but it finally got the art back.

Error message when synching with iphone

Does anyone know what this means? My Iphone wont synch to my Itunes anymore.

378 MB on the phone may not be enough to "stage" the backup, so try freeing some space by temporarily deleting music or apps.
It's also possible that the current backup on the computer is corrupt; try deleting it by going to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab.

IPod Touch shows wrong time when synched with iCal

I have a new iPod Touch and I have to say that the iCal synch doesn't work correctly. The touch is a French version and whenever i synch the iCal it changes the time into European 24-hour time. My 9 am appointments are shown as being at 21h (9pm). The time is correct on the iCal but I had to use weekly display and drag and drop it to get it that way because entering the hours numerically didn't work.
I remember too well giving up on iCal years ago for these adorable little quirks. Anybody have a solution? Thanks.

Just a follow up on this questions (which by the way no one answered). The iPod eventually corrected the time display. It happened a few hours after the first synchronization.
