Confussed between the vlan mode and switch mode AToMPLS

Folks,
Could someone explain to me in simple terms the difference between the 2. I am very confussed about how the VC concepts works.
So i Dot1q tagged packet comes into the switch, the switch applies 2 lables to it, outer and inner, and then it gets to the egress switch where the switches checks the dot1q tag again to decide what to do with the packet?
in vlan rewrite example have have difference vlans on both sides (ingress and egress) how does the switch or MPLS know that the packet is going from one vlan to the other?
Thanks,

Hello,
in AToM - as you described - there will be two labels involved, very much like in MPLS L3VPN. The top label will allow the transportation to the proper PE and the VC-label will identify the interface/port/VLAN.
With EoMPLS in VLAN mode the PEs will be able to transport dot1Q tagged frames from a CPE on a per-VLAN basis. The configuration includes the VLAN tags at both end of the MPLS VC. So the dot1Q header is stripped and transported and a new dot1Q header is created by the egress PE. The VLAN tags to be used are directly configured at each PE in the form of a subinterface with encapsulation dot1Q.
The decision where to forward the frame in the egress PE is solely determined from the VC label. Therefore one could even have the same VLAN for many customers. This is similar to IP address overlap in the MPLS L3VPN case.
I am not familar with the term "switch mode" you use above. The other option with EoMPLS is called "port mode" afaik. See f.e.

"Ethernet over MPLS
Ethernet over MPLS works by encapsulating Ethernet PDUs in MPLS packets and forwarding them across the MPLS network. Each PDU is transported as a single packet. There are various ways to configure Ethernet over MPLS:
•VLAN mode—transports Ethernet traffic from a source 802.1Q VLAN to a destination 802.1Q VLAN through a single VC over an MPLS network.
•Port mode—allows all traffic on a port to share a single VC across an MPLS network.
In port mode there will be no subinterfaces and VLAN tags defined at the PE routers. Instead all incoming ethernet frames will be "copied" from one port to another. I personally refer to this as an MPLS cloud playing the role of a "Cat5 cable simulator". The only thing a PE does besides transportation of ethernet frames is error checking (and dropping if the FCS is not correct).
Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

What is the difference between LTE mode, CDMA mode, LTE/legacy 3GGPP mode, and Global mode in Preferred Network?

        Great question alczervik!
    LTE- is our 4G network.
All CDMA/LTE Legacy are going to be related to our 1X, 3G/ EVDO network.
Global is GSM. Meaning you can use Internationally.

  • Difference between bridge mode and routed mode on CSS

    Hi,
Could some one tell me the difference between routed mode and bridge mode.
    Regards
    Neha

    Hi,
    routed mode:
The CSS acts as a router, it routes packets from the client to the server. The server has the ACE configured as default-gateway.
There is a client-side VLAN and a server-side VLAN. These VLANs have different subnets.
    Bridged mode:
The CSS acts as a bridge, it switches frames from the client to the server. The server has the upstream router configured as default-gateway.
There is a client-side VLAN and a server-side VLAN. These VLANs have the same subnet, but different VLAN IDs. The ACE bridges the client traffic from the client-side VLAN to the server-side VLAN.
Bridged mode would be most used in case one cannot change the servers IP addresses, or if address space is an issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT4623 after the ios 7.0 update my iphone 4s and ipad keep switching in between the home screen and the apple loading screen, can anybody help?

Can anybody help with the above?
    i.e
both my iphone 4s and ipad switch in between the home screen and the apple loading screen
    Many thanks

I would connect each device to a power source, and then reset them by holding the power button and the home button until they turn off.
If it keeps happening, I would put the devices in recovery mode and restore them with iTunes.
This article will help with that if needed:

  • Switching between the firewire connection and USB 2.0 Connection

Is it possible to switch between the firewire connection and USB 2.0 Connection on a portable external hard drive? I've tried unsuccessfully to use the firewire connection on my external hard drive after using the 2.0 connection. No machine will read the drive if it is connected via the firewire port. Using USB 2.0 it works as intended.

    Hello Grizzly Marmot,
Thank you for the feedback. So probably my old MAXTOR enclosure is playing me tricks ....
Last night the backup on my USB 2.0 was terribly slow ??? The incremental duplication of my hard drive (372.9 MB of data from 35GB of complete data) gave me these stats:
    Copied : 6232 files, 372,9 Mo
    Average : 8,8 Mo/minute (4,5 copying, 148,1 verifiying)
Just to analyse the drive it takes ±45 minutes ??? Also could the energy saving mode be a slow down factor (the suspension of the computer is NEVER) ???
I still wonder what speed I could experience for a wireless backup to a NAS drive ??
    Thanks for helping.

  • Hook to run script between Consumption mode and Contribution mode

    Hi,
I am developing a Web Portal page with a Region Template. My page will need to have an accordion. My Region Template will push out raw HTML, and I will use jQuery to put accordion behavior on top. However, the jQuery will run at "onload", $(document).ready(function()), to initialize my raw HTML to be an accordion. It works fine in view mode, however when I switch to Contribution mode, the page shows a raw HTML.
I am looking for a hook that I can run JavaScript when switching between Consumption mode and Contribution mode. This way, I can put my initialization script in that hook. I have looked in the iDoc documentation but couldn't find any.
I would be grateful if you can help me out. Thank you very much for your time.

Are you sure your jquery isn't getting called? Switching between contribution mode should cause a full page refresh by triggering the WCM.ReloadURL js function.
Have you put in debug statements to ensure that the $(document).ready(function(){}); really isn't being called?

  • What is difference between TEXT mode and BINARY mode?

    Hi,
What is difference between TEXT mode and BINARY mode? In TEXT mode what is "ENCODING DEFAULT".
    OPEN DATASET wl_filename FOR INPUT
                              IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT.
      OPEN DATASET wl_filename FOR INPUT
                              IN BINARY MODE .

    Hi vishnu,
    1. files like .TXT files are considered to be text,
and other files like .EXE . DOC etc are binary files.
    2. In text files, after each line, there are two
       internal binary characters
one for line feed and another one for newline.
    3. But, we don't have any meaning for it,
when we view such files in notepad, for eg.
Hence, to only get the understandable content,
we should open such TXT files, in text mode.
(we can also open them in binary mode,
but we will get two extra characters after each line,
and such two extra characters are meaningless
      for interpreting the text)
    4. In binary mode, each byte by byte is considered,
       without any meaning.
    regards,
    amit m.

  • Flipping between AT&T LTE and Emergency mode

    Greetings,
I am the proud new owner of a BlackBerry Z10. Within a few days of getting the phone, I noticed it was flip-flopping constantly between AT&T LTE and emergency mode. I could not make or receive calls, and text messages I sent were often received multiple times. Here are some of the steps I took to try and resolve the problem:
    1. Went to the AT&T store and had a new SIM card installed
    2. Several days later, I went back since the problem persisted. They provided a replacement phone.
    3. Performed a security wipe, interrupted it part way through, and performed a fresh install from a PC using BB Link.
    4. Called AT&T support, who suggested replacing it with yet another phone. However, this didn't seem helpful since I purchased the original phone in Pennsylvania and swapped it out the first time in Texas - I wouldn't think they'd have phones from the same "batch" in such geographically disparate locations.
I'm out of ideas on what else could be causing this and would greatly appreciate any insight the community here could provide!
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for the help and suggestions!  I worked with AT&T support and they "did something" ...the phone has been stable and working flawlessly for a few weeks now.  Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly what they did to correct the problem; all I know is that it went to their "L3 support" who in turn worked with Blackberry.  It took them about a day to fully fix the issue but since then, it's been all blue skies.
    Thanks again!

  • CSM route mode and bridge mode can exist at the same time?

I'm using CSM on ver 4.x,and I used to the bridge mode for firewall load balance, for a new requset,I have to create a new server/client vlan, but the original firewall load balance was effected when I issued the server vlan command, and I'd like to use route mode for the new server farm,I'm wondering that route mode and brige mode can't exist at the same time, because it seems it doesn't make sense.Any reply will be very appreciated.

you can use bridge mode and route mode at the same time.
Traffic with desintation mac address being the CSM will be routed, otherwise it will be bridged.

    diagram

You did not configure PBR on the CSS since it does not have this function.
    You simply configured static routing.
As so, the CSS will route between the vlans.
If you want a firewall to protect every vlan from the other ones, you should have a one-armed design where the firewall does the routing between the vlans and the CSS is doing the loadbalancing.
    ie:
    ........vlan1
    ..........|
    .vlan2 ---FW----- CSS
    ..........|
    ........Vlan2
You'll need to do client nat on the css or implement some form of PBR on the firewall.
PBR means routing based on another factore than the destination ip address. In this case, it is necessary to route based on the source port.
That might be too complex, so an easier choice would be
    ..vlan1(ext).....vlan2(ext)
    ....|...............|
    ....+-------FW------+
    .............|
    ..........+-CSS-+
    ..........|.....|
    ........vlan3 vlan4
there is no protection between internal vlan but you don't need policy routing or client nat.

  • Difference between "change auth data " and "expert mode" in pfcg

    Gurus ,
i need to know , what is the difference between
    "change  authorization data "
    and
"expert mode for profile generation" in PFCG .
and what is the significance of the three options that we get when we choose expert mode ?

    Hi Susin,
To change the authorization data for the transactions assigned to the role, choose Change Authorization Data or Expert Mode for Profile Generation.
If you are generating the profile for the first time, there is no difference between the two modes.
When you change a role, you must regenerate the authorization profile. In this case, the status of the profile generation is displayed red or yellow at the top of the Authorizations tab page.
If the status display is red, you must perform an authorization data comparison, since the menu was changed since the last profile generation or no authorization data exists.
If the display is yellow, the authorization data for the role was changed and saved after the last generation. The generated profile is no longer current. You need to regenerate it.
The significance of the three options that we get when we choose expert mode is as follows:
Choose one of the options to maintain the authorization values (in normal mode, the correct option is automatically set):
1> Delete and recreate profile and authorizations
All authorizations are recreated. Values which had previously been maintained, changed or entered manually are lost. Only the maintained values for organizational levels remain.
    2> Edit old status
The last saved authorization data for the role is displayed. This is not useful, if transactions in the role menu have been changed.
3> Read old status and compare with new data
If you change transactions in the role menu, this option is the preconfigured. The profile generator compares the existing authorization data with the authorization default values for the menu transactions. If new authorizations are added during this process, they receive the status New. Authorizations that already existed receive the status Old.
Note the following during the comparison:
Values for organizational levels that are no longer required are deleted, all others are retained. If new organizational levels are added, you need to maintain them.
The standard authorization for the object S_TCODE is always automatically filled with the current transactions from the role menu. It cannot be copied or manually changed, only deactivated.
    Thanks,
    Saby..
