[OT] Congreso Webmasters - Lucas Sevilla and CIA

Hola a todos/as,
Nada informaros a los que estabamos con lo del congreso que
yo voy en coche
al final, saldré el viernes por la mañana, Lucas
como tengo tu teléfono te
pego un toque el mismo viernes y quedamos en algún sitio

Qué tal ?, antes aclaro que escribo desde México en
noviembre pasado me
quedé muy cerca de asistir a Madrid al Congreso de
Webmasters, un compromiso
personal me lo impidió, ya había conseguido hasta
la pasta para pagar el
viaje, el caso es que esa pasta la conseguí en base a
anticipos y
patrocinios y ahora necesito justificarla, quisiera saber si
alguien conoce
algún curso o congreso en España en los
próximos meses o tendré que esperar
hasta noviembre, la idea es tomar algo referente a
webmasters, flash,
desarrollos web etc.
De antemano agradezco sus respuestas

Hola a todos. Estuve en el congreso ojobuscador el jueves y
el viernes.
He ido subiendo al vuelo algunas de las ponencias al blog,
minoslab.com,
por si a alguien le interesa. En ojobuscador.com tenéis

de gente que ha estado por alli y tambien a posteado.
Para los que no lo sepan el congreso de ojobuscador es el mas
importante
que se realiza en españa en cuanto a SEO/SEM, aunque
también se ha

To all webmasters out there, I need your thoughts on the

There are so many scam and junk emails coming our way, about
search engines submission. I am pretty confused. That is why I am
asking you guys your thoughts and advice.
For the benefit of my clients, how can I maximize their
search engine positionning?
Does it work paying for this? Who are the best for the buck?
Or does a free submission (and easy) method works well for
you guys?
What do you do? What should we avoid? Give us your links and
tricks.

I don't really submit either. I just link to them from my
website - that's
usually enough.

This (I think) is a good general approach, but it also
depends on the kind
of keywords/phrases you are trying to optimize as to how
effective it will
be -
1. I make sure that the page validates.
2. I make sure that I know what keywords and phrases I am
optimizing
against.
3. I make sure that I have used the principle keywords and
phrases in the
home page's title tag.
4. I make sure that I have used well-structured content on
each page, with
paragraph headers containing page/content-specific keywords
and phrases and
located within <h#> tags.
On pages that are likely to be SE hit pages, I include a good
meta
description.

Webmasters Rejoice!

Well, I don't know if it has been done, but I think I have come up with a pretty good idea. I also don't know if I am going to go public with the idea either. But I am looking for (mac users only) webmasters and coders to help build and help manage a website with me.

Hi Tom!
Here's the basic answer...most of the world has been designing sites for IE on windows. Many of them it seems don't even take a look on other browsers/platforms. Most of the time it's not a Safari or Firefox issue but it's a webdesigner issue. They have coded something that is not standard and won't work outside of the IE/Windows world. Now when Firefox became popular they seemed to include Firefox in the mix. The same is happening with Safari but some webdesigners are very slow at coming around. For example I hear the new Yahoo Mail is not compatible with Safari. That's just shame on Yahoo because Safari is the top Mac browser and the 3rd browser overall. So the problem is with Yahoo not Safari.
With that being said you are still on Safari 1 and I'm not sure if Safari 2 can handle these sites better? Of course nothing you can do unless you upgrade to Tiger. I believe most of us here keep an extra browser on hand for any situations like this. Usually Firefox or anything Gecko (I personally use Camino if I have to) is a good choice. Like you I prefer Safari and I use Safari 95% of the time if not more. There is only a site or two that I frequent and I must use Camino. If you would post a few links to sites you're having a problem with we can test it on Safari 2 and see if it's any better...

Errors when submitting sitemap.xml to Webmasters.

When I submit my sitemap.xml to Google Websmasters it says there is an error for every one of my pages. It says there that this url is not allowed. i submitted "the-domain-name".com/sitemap.xml
Does anyone know why this is happening?

Suggestion: Way to contact discussion board hosts/webmasters

I'm sure that this suggestion has been made already by someone else in the past (likely multiple times), but I really would find it helpful in some cases to have some kind of support e-mail address for the discussions.
So if something technical goes wrong (forum downtimes, posts that disappear silently for unknown reasons, whatever...), it would be nice to have a person (or at least an e-mail address) to speak with and clarify things.

As a rule, AD Hosts don't maintain one to one contact with members via email, although there are systems in place that allow members to contact Hosts about issues that arise on this site:
One is this Feedback forum, where members may post "questions about how to use Apple Discussions and ... general constructive feedback about how the Discussions system is operating or how it may be improved." The type of issues you describe should generally be posted here.
Level 2 and above members are able to report issues about individual posts to the Hosts. If you have a personal issue with a member or post, use the 'Report this post' link, and explain your issue.
Level 4-5 members are able to report and occasionally discuss issues with the Hosts in the Lounge area.
So, all members are able to contact Discussions staff in one way or another, but no one should expect that their notifications will garner responses (or even acknowledgment) from AD staff.

IPhone shrinking 300 pixel pages (webmasters)

Hi, I can't figure out what's going on my mobi pages:
Safari on my 4s iPhone displays these two .mobi-formatted pages properly
(this is the only phone I tested, but someone previously pointed out the problem, too):

But it shrinks these pages:

After upgrading to FF 3.6.12 I can no longer view PHP pages from my hard drive.

After upgrading to version 3.6.12 I can no longer open PHP web pages from my hard drive. When I create or edit web pages I view them from my hard drive first before uploading, as many webmasters do to look for errors before taking them live.
I can view PHP pages online, but from my hard drive it just spawns endless empty tabs. Instead of just opening the page it asked me what to open it with, thinking the PHP web page is a script.
It was working fine before the upgrade. I had a page open that I wanted to edit, which it reopened when my browser restarted.
Then I edited the page. All I did was add a link to it. Then I hit the refresh button to see the change and instead of reloading the page, FF asked me what to do with the PHP script, prompting me to save it or choose what program to open it with.
I selected to view it with FF and it just spawned endless tabs. They wouldn't stop. Had to shut down FF and it probably had 40 tabs opened with nothing on them. I tried other PHP pages from my hard drive that opened fine before, but it did the same thing with them.
I tried finding help online and I see others have had the same problem, but no solution was offered that worked. I tried rebooting, same story, it wants to know what to do with the PHP script.
I'm being forced to use another browser, so I'm going to go download Chrome now. If this probably isn't fixed soon I'll simply give up on FF. It's not worth the aggravation. I can't tell you how much TIME I've wasted today -- HOURS.
Very disappointed.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have to process the php, it just has to show the HTML content. It did that just fine before the last upgrade but won't now.

It doesn't help. The things it says to look for aren't there for me, specifically:
browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes
plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types
I followed the rest of the instructions but it didn't help.
I did get it to quit opening tabs, instead it prompts me what it should do with the file every time now. What it should do, and used to do, is open the php page and display the HTML content.
Any other ideas?

I have a SharePoint 2013 environment with 1 AD Server, 1 DB Server and 1 APP Server, with 13 Web Applications running under the SharePoint.
Recently I rebuilted the application because of some infrasctrucutre problems, and I was able to solve all of them, except one. I can't connect to any of those 13 Web Apps with SharePoint Designer. When I try to connect, it always ask credentials, then it
seems like loading the site, then the error appears:
"An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files. Authors - if you are authoring against
a Web server, please contact the Webmaster for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application event log for more details."
I've spent hours troubleshooting it, but none of the information I found was valid. I've already tried to clean the cache, but didn't work. I found plenty of related data of this
error with FrontPage and old versions of SharePoint, but nothing helped. All the Web Apps are SPD-Enabled at Site Collection Administration. I've tried connecting from many different PC's. The 15/LOGS folder doesn't get any data from this error, neither the
Event Viewer.
I really don't know what else to do. Please Help!

I found the answer of my issue was in a .NET Agent installed by NewRelic on the server. I found a connection trouble with Fiddler, then I end up figuring this out:
This can be the result of Real User Monitoring so the first step in troubleshooting would be to disable it and see how it affects the application. The .Net Agent injects snippets of javascript into the header of pages sent to the users browser to measure the
page load time on the user's end.
You can disable RUM by editing newrelic.config and changing this line:
<browserMonitoring autoInstrument="true"/>
to this:
<browserMonitoring autoInstrument="false"/>

Guys, I really need help in trying to learn what J2EE is.
I've got prior knowledge and experience on Java (I thought), but ever since I came across the terms J2EE, EJB, JNI, JSP, JDBC and all that crap, I now don't know what I actually learnt!
Please bear with me I beg of you! :)
1.0: What I've learnt.

So far, I've learnt (I think) the core/basics of the Java language, covering uhm...the basics up to GUIs, Arrays, IOStreams...yeah I think that's it.
I code using notepad and compile them using the SDK...which up to now I still don't know if it is an SE or EE edition. It's j2sdk1.4.0 the last time I checked. I didn't use any IDE.
I've done (school) projects like a Library System (involves loaning of books and charges etc etc), a Chalet Organizer (Loaning out chalets/rooms and charges etc etc) and an Appointment Organizer.
So what was that which I learnt? Am I right to say that that is only core Java and nothing else and is next to worthless in the working world?
2.0: Why I want to learn J2EE.

Okay so why do I want to learn specifically J2EE? Well, most employment opportunities here require J2EE and EJB (and maybe some other alien terms) as prerequisites to being a "Java Programmer".
I really need the job as soon as possible (for family's sake) and the job market here is already saturated with webmasters..

Believe me, I tried for like 2 months already to try learn this thing on my own.
I have followed almost exactly to the J2EE "Beginner's Tutorial" found on http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/ but no matter how far I read, I'm still just as clueless as I was when I was in my mother's womb about what J2EE is all about, even though I did the examples. I stopped somewhere in the middle of "Getting Started" because I realized I wasn't learning anything at all.

Can anyone please help me set my head straight and either point me to a REAL beginner's tutorial on J2EE and what the heck it is, or help explain to me slowly what J2EE really is and how to learn it?

What's the difference between J2EE and J2SE?!? I initially thought that J2SE was simply just a smaller download which didn't include some of the heavier stuff that the EE carried, but boy was I wrong when that same tutorial asked me to install BOTH of them!

Is it right for me to think that EJB are just files which are precoded to facilitate programming? e.g.:(I could've written up my own Date class instead of using the standard Date class that everybody uses.)

What the hell is Jakarta Ant? Is it a builder and not a compiler, and may allow me to run built programs just by double-clicking on an e.g. executable? Like C++? So that I don't have to go to command prompt and type "java myApp.class"? (OT, but I think it's ridiculous that Apache has this and not Sun!!)

Is there a simpler, much much much simpler example of a J2EE tutorial besides the overly vague tutorial "The Duke's Bank Application"? I need more examples of smaller scale maaaan... Better yet, is there a tutorial around that covers the very very very basics of Java all the way up to J2EE, step by step and with ample explanations?

Run Tomcat as a standalone critter - the install of the current ver (4.1.12?) on a Windows machine sets it up nicely, and you don't have to worry about web connectors and stuff. Just create a few JSPs and dump them somewhere under the ROOT directory of your webapps directory and you should be able to hit them via a URL like http://localhost:8080/test.jsp (assuming you have it running on port 8080). Once you get your fill of the JSP thing, make a serrvlet and look into creating WAR files - then copy your WAR file into webapps subdirectory of your Tomcat installation and play with that. When you've had enough Servlet fun, then look into JBoss and making EAR files and you'll have all sorts of fun with JNDI and JDBC and all those other acronyms.
Ant is just a build tool, not a compiler. Compiling simple java classes is no big deal, 'cause you just type javac MyClass.java or some such. But when you get into complicated build processes (like, compile these classes, making sure to include the J2EE jar and all the other jars I need, and create a WAR file, and deploy it to Tomcat) then Ant really helps.
If you want help documenting your classes, the javadoc tool is for you.
