Conky can't run since upgrade to Plasma 5

I just upgraded to KDE Plasma 5. For some reason I can't seem to run conky anymore and I'm not sure why.

Back in KDE4 I'm pretty sure I still used the KDE desktop manager, but I had to use feh to put the same wallpaper on the root background so that conky wouldn't be black.
If this is a problem with Plasma 5's desktop manager, I honestly don't mind just stopping using it and just using a root background. I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this as Plasma 5 is still pretty new and there isn't much information on it. Of course if it's possible I'd like conky working with Plasma 5's desktop manager.

Yep, I have the same issues, though I have a workaround for my conky, but I lose some functionality like stickiness (override) and I can drag it around the desktop. Here's what I use today:
own_window yes
own_window_type normal
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_argb_value 0
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

I'll try to make this clear. I USED to be able to left click on a hyper link and the hyper link would open in a NEW tab. Now for some unknown reason the hyper link by default opens in the same tab (window). I have to right click the hyper link in order for it to open in a NEW tab. (Yes, my 'tools'> 'options'> 'tabs' are set to "open new windows in a new tab." (Please no answers telling me to get rid of the Ask toolbar because I don't have one.) Thank you.

I can't run Toshiba Upgrade Assitant or driver update after Win 7 installation

I recently purchased and installed windows 7 (yesterday). I thought I was ready, looked at the Toshiba website, found the page informing me as to what I need to do when installing Windows 7, but what I didn't see was that I need to run these things before I actually upgrade!
It says on the webpage "After getting Windows 7 package, run this...." Now I read that to mean after it's installed. So now I've already installed windows 7, but I hadn't updated my drivers, or upgraded some of the other functionality (like bluetooth)
How can I upgrade everything that's needed to be upgraded without having to re-install vista? Which isnt' realy an option as I used an upgrade of windows 7 so that I didn't lose any of my programs or files, and therefore going back to vista would mean I would lose all of them....
I need help ASAP please.

Just a simple question: What Toshiba notebook you have?
I ask this because maybe this model isnt Windows 7 supported and then you have to use the Vista drivers or collect new Windows 7 driver by yourself.
If you upgrade to Windows 7 it doesnt update automatically your drivers, etc. You have to do this yourself!

Mail won't open reply window & can't type since upgrading to 10.4.6

like the subject says, ever since I updated my OS to 10.4.6, Mail won't open a reply window when trying to reply to a received e-mail. Also, when trying to type a new email message, can only type until the space bar is hit, then get the error sound and no more characters can be typed. Tried repairing/verifying disk permissions several times and checked disk as well, but still won't work properly. Mozilla mail works without any problem, so it must be a Mac Mail thing...
thanks for any ideas...maybe this stuff needs to be tested better before OS updates are put out...will this and all of us be abandoned to Intel MacOS in the near future?

Most people having this issue have successfully solved it cleaning up the LaunchServices cache. The following article describes how to manually reset LaunchServices. The notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved.

It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner.
In addition to the utilities mentioned above, you may also consider OnyX, if for no other reason, because it's free. If you want to try OnyX, after installing it, do this (be sure to read the articles about the side effects of cache cleaning first):
1. Quit all applications.
2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you've already done them using other utilities.
5. Click the Execute button.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you may try again checking the Links between documents and applications option in step 3 instead.
Please let me know whether you were able to solve the problem, what worked for you and what didn't.

Can't "run" firefox upgrade; instead, only "save" appears. What's up?

want to download newer version of firefox (also Microsoft Security Essentials-having same problem), but the run (execute) command doesn't appear. Instead, "save" (file) appears. What's wrong? I can detect no yellow information bar.

Firefox does not allow executable files to be run, they can only be saved. This is a security feature to prevent the spread of viruses. You can bypass this feature and have the option to run files by using the OpenDownload² extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/opendownload-10902/

Can't boot since upgrade to 2.6.20-2

I'm not entirely sure what the problem was, as a few things preceded this incident, so I will start from the time I last successfully booted and describe everything odd that happened thereafter. During my last successful boot I had installed the new kernel 2.6.20-2. 2.6.20-1 had been working perfectly for me, so I thought that 2.6.20-2 couldn't be any worse. After that I shut down, and the next day I booted into Windows. My partitions are organized in this manner: 1 300 GB PATA hard drive partitioned into 1 25 GB NTFS partition for the Windows XP installation, and 1 250ish GB ext3 partition for the archlinux installation. I do not have seperate mountpoints for /boot or /home, because at the time I had installed it I didn't realize that was necessary or helpful. I also have 1 250GB SATA hard drive that has a 10 GB partition at the end in FAT32 for sharing between the two OSs and the rest is partitioned NTFS. In Windows I have installed ext2 IFS, so that I can mount the ext3 partition and access.
This is the part where I begin to wonder what exactly caused the trouble. The following may be relevant or totally unrelated; I am not sure. I have an iPod. I wanted to see if I could install podzilla on my iPod, so I went to the podzilla website and downloaded the Windows podzilla installer for the iPod. This automatically detecs the iPod and attempts to install podzilla on it. After running it twice, and having it error out soon after entering the partitioning phase both times, where it needs to create a new partition for the linux installation on it, I was afraid I had bricked my iPod. So I shut down my computer and checked out my iPod, and it was functioning perfectly. I started up my computer again and this time tried to boot into Linux. This is what happened:

There were some things before that, but nothing I thought of as especially important. If needed I can more. I tried it with the rootfstype=ext3 in the grub loader, and the same error occured, except starting at IP-Config: No devices to configure instead of earlier. I was able to boot into the system using the 0.7.2 install cd with the command "vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2", but with the 2.6.16 kernel, so none of the modules loaded. One of the important modules that was not able to load was the wireless card's driver. So I brought my computer over to an ethernet line and tried again, which once again failed for some reason. At this point I booted into a Sabayon and chrooted into my /dev/hda2 (which, strangely enough, in Sabayon was located at /dev/sdb2. Yes, I tried changing the grub loader configuration to saying root=/dev/sdb2 and root=/dev/sda2, but the same error occured as /dev/hda2). I commented out testing from my pacman.conf, because I figured that I wasn't going to have this happen again, and manually downgraded every package I had that was in testing to current. Restart, boot into archlinux, same error. I then did the same thing as before, except ran grub-install /dev/hda. Shutdown, reboot, same error.
At this point I'm not entirely sure what to do or what caused the problem. I half suspect that it was the kernel, and I half suspect that it was the ipod podzilla installer screwing up detection. I am totally clueless as to what to try next. Any ideas would be appreciated. If you need me to clarify anything, please ask. And sorry for the huge amount of text, but I felt I would be better served being complete and lengthy than not giving enough details.

I wrote a lot because I did a lot of things before posting this. I don't want to be rude to the people who I am asking for help from, but please read everything I read before suggesting something, as there is a chance I have already tried it. Please don't take offense.
Someone on IRC suggested I download and burn 0.8.0 and try to boot into it using that, and I have downloaded the ISO and am going to burn it now to test that idea. If it succeeds I will post again and describe what I did.

Well I was able to use the 0.8.0 cd to chmod into my archlinux partition, and from there modprobe my wireless driver and nvidia driver. So now I have internet and X, but a lot of stuff isn't working (as expected). At this point I am not sure what to do, however. I don't know what's wrong with my system, so I don't know how to fix it. I'm going to play around with this a bit and see if I can get anything done, but suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Purchased an audio book that I can't find since upgrade, where is it?

I bought an audio book, paid through the itunes store, downloaded it onto my ipad mini. 2013. I cannot find it now after the upgraded ipad mini to iOS7.0.3

I talked with iTunes Tech support for an hour or so this morning. After a lot of trial and error - here is what solved the problem for me.
1. iTunes support resent the download to my Apple ID - I did a 'Check for Available Downloads' in iTunes on my Macbook and the audiobook downloaded tot here.
2. On iPhone - I went to Settings > General > Usage > Music and deleted the Part 1 that was currently in my iPhone - apparently corrupted (since it didn't show in iBooks nor Music App under Audiobooks).
3. Plugged iPhone into MacBook, found that i had audiobooks in a playlist - removed all audiobooks from all playlists. Unchecked all Books and Audiobooks and synced. Then, I rechecked the audiobook I wanted and synced.
This process solved my problem!

I can no longer (since upgrade) stop a window or tab from loading other than closing it. I have dialup and the stop feature was useful.

I use firefox 4.0.1 now but before upgrading I had a stop command in the 'view' drop down. It's not there in this version. Is there a way for me to stop a loading page without closing it with 4.0.1? Other than this, I love firefox.

Portal 2 crashes since upgrade to ML

I realise this isn't a gaming forum but I wonder if anyone can help.
Since upgrading to ML (via a clean install) and installing Portal 2 via Steam, the game crashes when loading levels. The game's main menu loads OK but crashes upon loading levels. Crash report: http://pastebin.com/Bw0t2Bt2
I am not in BETA testing (can’t find any option to opt in or out) and I’ve also 'verified local game cache’ as suggested on the Steam forums. I've reported the problem to Valve via their online feedback system but I've not heard anything back from them yet.
Other than using Boot Camp to install Portal 2 on Windows 7, any ideas on getting Portal 2 to work on OS X Mountain Lion?
I'm running a MacBook Pro 2.2 i7 Quad, 8GB RAM, 1GB AMD GPU.
I'm also finding fullscreen video in ML often flickers green/yellow (e.g. I can't watch the Olympics online fullscreen ) and there are various other graphical glitches (especially in Mail). So I wonder if there's an underlying AMD driver problem?

Same here! Although I don't think it's a ML issue since I installed Portal 2 three days ago, I already had ML and it worked fine for three days. This is weird! Nothing changed on my computer as far as I remember. I left the game yesterday, came back a few hours later and since then it's not working anymore.
Like you main menu loads okay but I cannot load a level. I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam: did not help. I uninstalled and reinstalled Portal 2: did not help.
I will keep trying and let you know if I figure it out...

Try uninstalling NI Measurement and Automation Explorer. You can
reinstall it by using installing any driver since MAX is not available
as a separate download.

Either Mail will crash or the iMac will run so slowly as to be unusable. With both running, the HDD spins constantly at a high rate of speed.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.

Since upgrading to 10.7.3 and iPhoto 11, I am encountering problems I never had before. Can't run slide show or make a book; in email, can't put in new signature. Any help out there. I have also downloaded the 9.2.3 update for the iPhoto.

Why do you think iPhoto affects your ability to edit Mail sigs? What happens when you try to run a slideshow? Have you tried re-applying the .7.3 update? Repairing permissions?

I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th. (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists) The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29. (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
