Conncting a MacBook to a Samsung flatscreen

I assume that if I want to connect my MacBook to my Samsung LE40A656 then this: http://store.apple.com/dk/product/M9321G/B?mco=MzE2OTkyOQ (mini DVI to DVI) is what I need, right?
If yes, what other cable will I need? HDMI in both ends or HDMI if the TV end and DVI in the converter end? This may be a stupid question, but I'm not quite sure what DVI is...

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't really quality difference between VGA or HDMI. They are both types of video output : Whereas VGA is an analog signal, HDMI is a digital signal.
You are correct in a way. VGA does not output High Definition resolutions.
Whether you use VGA or HDMI or any other cable, what will dictate the resolution that you will be able to display on your television is your macbook's video graphics card. See the support page for white macbooks : http://support.apple.com/kb/SP5.
Your macbook does not natively display high resolution content of any kind. Even if you watch HD videos off the internet, the quality will be negligible at best. In that sense, I don't believe you will get any advantage from getting the mini-DVI to DVI adapter, a DVI cable, a DVI-HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable so that you can connect through the HDMI port.
I personally used a mini-DVI to S-Video adapter, and used an S-Video cable to connect to my HD tv. So that is another option you can explore.

Trouble connecting MacBook to a Samsung 27'' TFT

Hi people.
I often connect my 1,83 Core Duo MacBook to a Samsung TFT display using the Mini DVI to VGA adapter and an VGA cable, in order to watch DVDs, AVIs, high definition podcasts and that kind of stuff on a bigger screen.
The MacBook and the Samsung seem to like each other, as they instantly start to work together. But there's a little issue I just can't imagine how to work out.
The resolution of the external TFT display is 1280 x 768 and the Mac gives me the option to select it at different refresh rates. And here comes the problem:
When I select 1280 x 768 at 60 Hz, the image looks clean and crisp, but it appears displaced to the left. I mean, I loose part of the desktop on the left, and I see a narrow black column at the right of the external screen.
At 85 Hz the desktop fits the screen perfectly, but the image is a little blurry. I can work that way, but I don't like losing the crispness, and when I watch video I can actually see the frames refreshing.
At 75 Hz I have both problems, and higher refresh rates are not supported by the Samsung TFT.
Any clue about how can I work it out?

Here are some details of an exact timing to try that I have used successfully on a 1280 x 768 Samsung TV. Maybe they will work for your TV.
Pixel clock: 80.13 MHz
H Active: 1280 pixels
H Front porch: 64 pixels
H Sync width: 136 pixels
H Back porch: 200 pixels
V Active: 768 lines
V Front porch: 1 line
V Sync width: 3 lines
V Back porch: 23 lines
H Sync is positive
V Sync is negative (no check mark in box)
Interlace is off (no check mark in box)

Can someone help me out with connecting my Macbook to my Samsung 5054 Plasma. I have the mini dvi to video adapter, but I still don't get a picture? Please help. Thanks so much.

What sort of input does your plasma allow? HDMI or DVI would be best. VGA would be OK.
I connect to my Panasonic plasma as follows:
Macbook==> mini-DVI to DVI adapter ==> DVI to HDMI cable ==> Yamaha RX-V663 receiver HDMI in ==> HDMI cable out ==>Panasonic plasma
Of course having the Yamaha receiver in the chain is optional, but in my case I also run digital optical audio to the receiver.

Small vertical lines when connecting macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD via HDMI

Just connected my macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD thru the HDMI port. Works a treat bar one issue...on non-moving images, colours which aren't whites or blacks, namely brighter colours, there appear small vertical lines. These seem to appear around the areas where there is a substantial difference between 2 colours (example the outline of a face against a lighter or darker background).
Tried all the obvious things such as calibration, different resolutions etc but cant get rid of them...they dont seem to be there with moving images though and certainly not on mainly white displays such a the Google homepage for example............Any thoughts?

i have a samsung 52 inch tv and i have hooked up the vga connector to my pc input on my tv and went to pc input on the screen. all i keep getting when i start is the background but no icons or anything and i cant move the mouse on the tv. if i try to mirror the windows in the display i get a message that says mode not supported on the tv. any ideas. i don't have an external mouse to try

I'm sure there are other variables but the one that comes to mind first is how bright is the screen run? I would imagine that a monitor set to full brightness (as one user who complained about IR did) would accelerate any tendency toward IR and the closer to "full-on" it's set, the sooner that would happen. Based on those thousands of posts, the original LG's appear to be more prone to IR than the Samsung, but there hasn't been the same flood of complaints with the LG SJA2's, at least not yet. At the same time, there hasn't been any attention I could find about contributing factors either.
And notably, way back when the Samsung started to be the Holy Grail, I don't remember complaints about color problems; that seems to have cropped up recently.

The James Colby system (123macmini link) seems to be the only one I could find with an color display. He went for an LCD, instead of CRT. He kept the original look of the CRT by cutting the picture tube (so the glass face stayed in place, but behind it is an LCD).

Depends on what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and a cable from that to your TV. If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

How do i connect my Macbook Pro (2-3 years ago) to Samsung Flat screen TV (Samsung UN22F5000 22-Inch 1080p 60Hz Slim LED HDTV). Currently, I just discovered that my HDMI port on the TV said "DVI". So, i came to the conclusion that I need to get the DVI to HDMI cable (male-male), and mini display-port to DVI (female) adapter cable for Macbook Pro. The question is am I correct?
I have tried looking at the back of the Samsung flat screen, but there has no VGA to PC port (female). Therefore, i googled and tried to find a way to connect my Mac to the Samsung flat screen TV. Thank you for replying to this topic. Yes, it is true that there are 2 HDMI ports. However, one of the HDMI ports has something written on it, which is (HDMI In 1 STB). While, the other one stated "HDMI In 2 DVI". Moreover, I tried to plug in the HDMI cable into HDMI In 2 DVI, and it doesn't fit. While, plugging in to the STB does fit. Do you know what are the differences?

Cannot connect Macbook Air to Samsung TV via HDMI

Hello, I have been completely unable to get my Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011, running OS X 10.9.1) to connect to my new Samsung TV (UN32EH5000F) I feel like I have tried everything I can think of, have spent hours now looking for a solution online. I also consulted Samsung tech support, who were not helpful in that they insisted the problem is with my Macbook (because the HDMI port on the TV works when I hook up my DVD player).
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to the TV using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Compatible) to HDMI cable. I have gotten the connection to work on my LG monitor (via the same HDMI cable), but this did require some switching back and forth between sources before it would appear as an external monitor on my Mac and doesn’t seem to work reliably. Sometimes I can get the LG monitor to work as an external display over HDMI and sometimes I can’t.
I have also gotten the TV to work ONCE on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008, running 10.9) by plugging the cable into the Mini DisplayPort while the computer was asleep. I have not been able to replicate this in many tries since that first time.
When I insert either end of the cable (either into the TV or the Macbook Air), the screen flashes as if recognizing that the cable is plugged in, but the TV always says "No Signal."
I have also tried:
Every possible combination of plugging in cables
Shutting down my Mac and the TV and rebooting
Switching the source on my TV back and forth
Plugging the HDMI cable into both ports on the TV
Changing the name of the HDMI source on my TV (to available options like "PC", "DVI", "DVI PC", etc.)
Battery power and AC adaptor
Resetting the PRAM and the SMC
Using the Option button in Display preferences to click “Detect Displays”
Any help would be appreciated!

Macbook (m2009) to Samsung tv stopped working!

Please can someone help with this:
I have a Macbook Pro mid-2009, running Yosemite, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB, with 2.8ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 4GB RAM. I have had a connection via mini-DVI - HDMI converter to a Samsung TV for the past few years. Despite upgrading to Yosemite, I continued to have a perfect picture. Then yesterday my connection had an error with the Samsung tv reporting "mode not supported". I have tried all the different monitor settings in the preferences menu, restarting the computer with and without the tv attached, restarting in safe mode, resetting the SMC and PRAM, updating the graphics driver to the latest version and also replacing the converter. Nothing has worked! what I don't understand is why it was working one minute and then not the next. Please can someone help me! I miss streaming my favourite shows to the tv!!

Apologies if its been asked before but I cant figure out the technical mumbo jumbo
I have a C2D Macbook with Leopard and now want to connect it to my new Samsung 26 LCD to watch videos which have been stored on my mac.
I know I have to buy a chord for that (which one) but will the picture quality be okay? The Samsung model is LA26A450C1 and it has a resolution of 1366 x 768. Do I have to plug it in AV or HDMI and is my LCD compatible with the macbook?

You have three optional adapters to get the video signal out of the MacBook through the built-in mini-DVI port:
mini-DVI to DVI, chained with an additional DVI to HDMI adapter/cable, for the best digital signal. (recommended option)
mini-DVI to VGA, for an analog signal with a VGA/Dsub15 computer monitor cable.
mini-DVI to Video (either S-Video or Composite) for an analog signal, usually for PAL or NTSC equipment.
you will also need to run an audio cable from the little headphone jack on the MacBook to a AUX line-input on your stereo or TV.

I am trying to connect my MacBook to my HDTV. I have purchased the mini-DVI to HDMI female cable and connected the HDMI female cable with another HDMI-HDMI cable to my television. The Mac and TV are reading each other, its just that only my background from my Mac is seen on the television. When I go to System Preferences -> to Displays there is a "Gather Windows" button that pops up, that is not present when the TV and Mac are not connected. When I push the "Gather Windows" button a window with the title "Samsung" pops up that looks very similar to the other "Display" window. I am wondering how to connect my Mac and TV so that everything from my Mac screen shows up on my TV. If I am doing something wrong, or need another cable, or anything else all help is welcomed.

In your Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays you should see two layouts of displays, one with a thick white line across the top, while the other without. The one with the thick white line across represents the display with the menubar and Dock, while the other without represents your display that doesn't have either. In this case, that should be representative of your TV. Wherever the TV rectangle is in relation to the Mac's rectangle is the assumed "position" of the desktop aligned next to the Mac. So if it is the right, you should be able to grab the titlebar of the window, and drag it over to the right hand side of the screen and have it partially appear on the TV if you keep dragging to the right. If it is some other placement, drag the window in that general direction. It may not instantly appear if your overscan settings aren't setup right. Also if you have a 1080i TV, you may need to switch to 720p resolution so that the overscan settings can be modified.

Connecting my Late 2009 Macbook to a Samsung Series 5 TV

So I'm trying to connect my Late 2009 Macbook upto my Series 5 Samsung TV and I've stumbled across a bit (a lot!) of difficulty.
I have the picture coming through perfectly on my MiniDisplayport to HDMI connection but I can't for the life of me work out how to get the sound through as well. I have literally every cable at my disposal at the minute, RCA to audio, optical with a TOSlink connector and a standard 3.5mm audio cable. I assumed the optical to TOSlink connector would be my best option but no such look, I've tried every combination I can think of. Whenever I connect the TOSlink connector in, the sound icon greys out immediately and my TV doesn't appear in the Output list.
I'm really hoping somebody would be able to help me out, I'm fast running out of options, something I thought might be a good idea is quickly turning into a bit of a pain...

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

Hello, I recently bought the new black Macbook this summer and a new Samsung LCD tv with HDTV capability. I am wanting to connect my Macbook to my LCD TV so that I can watch DVDs...What is the best cable to do this? I know that I will have to buy a Mini-DVI adapter. Should I convert it into DVI, VGA, S-Video..etc.

Yes you can buy those adapters and your computer will display on your HD set. The sound however will not transfer so you will need an audio cable to hook it up to your speakers.
