Connect 10.9 to a 10.6 directory

I'm having issues binding my 10.9 server to my 10.6 server which hosts open directory. On the 10.9 server I can add my 10.6 LDAP directory in directory utility.app, but none of my users from 10.6 are visible in the server.app on my 10.9 machine. I know I can't set up the 10.9 server as a replica with the 10.6 server, but I was under the impression that I could connect to the directory on the 10.6 server to provide authentication services. Is this possible, or am I doing somthing wrong.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Finally got it working. Disregard this post.

  • Connect to multiple drives in the same directory?

Please pardon me for not using correct terminology. I cannot mount (map) two drives in the same directory. I use "Go >Connect to Server >smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory/folder1" and the folder1 icon pops up on my desktop. Then if I use the same structure with /~directory/folder2, the Finder window opens to the same folder1 I originally mounted. I have to disconnect from the first before I can successfully mount the second. Since I sometimes need to work on documents in both simultaneously, it is VERY inconvenient. Is there a solution, and is it on my machine or do I need to bug our techies (again)??

No. In the Go >Connect to Server dialog they show as:
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory/folder1
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory/folder2
I have access also to another directory:
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory2/folder1
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory2/folder2
And can simultaneously mount a drive in that directory with a drive in the other directory, but cannot simultaneously mount two drives in the same directory.

  • FTPs connection error:When using Variable substitution for Directory path

    Hi
I am transferring data from BI to xml file via PI: Here a Client proxy from BI sends the data to PI and the PI FTPs the XML file to a remote location. For FTP I am using FTPs SSL connection.
It was working fine untill I used Variable susbstitution to determine Directory path dynamically. I am using this because different xml files are intended to goto the different locations.
I did the variable substitution like this:
    Target Message Structure:
    ---> Target Directory: %var1%
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <MT_BI_EXTRACT_FILE>
      <Header>
         <Directory>/Customer</Directory>
    </Header>
    <Detail>
    </Detail>
       </MT_BI_EXTRACT_FILE>
And in the variable substitution I am doing it this way
    payload:MT_BI_EXTRACT_FILE,1,Header,1,Directory,1
And the error I am getting is:
Attempt to process file failed with Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: iaik.security.ssl.SSLException: Peer sent alert: Alert Fatal: handshake failure

Does anybody have some Idea of this ??
    Regards
    Naina

    Hi,
I guess the problem is not with Variable Substitution..
Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool:
    So its a connection problem..
Also check the option Disable Security check and try again...
Try to check again if the interface is executing properly without Variable substitution and let us know..

  • Unity Connection 8.5 with Domino\Notes & Active Directory

A question has emerged in light of the LDAP integration issue Unity Connection lacks with the IBM Domino LDAP Database.  The customer was planning on testing a 2008 AD Domain this coming year and would be willing to set up 2008 DC’s in two locations to support the HA configuration we are installing for them.
The question “will they lose any integration  / features / usability if they pursue this approach?  IE:  the CUCM / CUCXN / CUPS servers would leverage the AD LDAP directory for user authentication, but the end user would still be using the Domino LDAP directory for the Lotus NOTES client and other applications.  IF the users on CUCM authenticate against the AD Domain, and the Notes clients Authenticate against the Domino domain, will the plug-ins still function properly?
I no NOTES/Domino experience.  Additionally the customer currently has no domain structure to speak of; all workstations are in (if you can believe it) Workgroups.
    Thanks All,
    Matt

    to keep things moving...
This is an answer I got from a Cisco SE:
"If they are not doing anything with CUP’s then I don’t see an issue. They don’t even need to use a Unity Connection plug-in since they are using IMAP. They can double click on the .wav file that’s in their IMAP inbox and it will play.  Now the real question is if they want to do more integration with Notes and CUPC. So if they want to click to call from Notes, will the Jabber application recognize a name pulled in from domino? These types of scenarios is what we would need to figure out. Hopefully by that time they will have everything moved over to AD.  For just voicemail with an IMAP connection I don’t see how we are doing anything special."
That being said, does anyone else have any input?

  • Cannot connect MacOS X server to an Active Directory

    Hello,
My XServe Intel, running OS X Server 10.4.9, cannot connect to our Active Directory. Phase 1 to 4 seems ok but the 5th never ends. I have to force Directory Access to quit and then reboot because Admin Server doesn't respond too. I tried 3 times.
It works well with a MacOS X server running on a G5 or with a MacOS X client.
The XServe is connected to the network using the 2 Ethernet ports agregation.
It was a problem launching OpenDirectory under 10.4.8 but 10.4.9 solve this issue.
Could there be the same problem on 10.4.9 with an AD connection through a dual gigabit Ethernet Link ?
    Thank you for your help...
    Pat

The solution for anyone who has the same problem.
Return to standalone server, erase the "DirectoryService" folder and the "edu.mit.kerberos" in Library/Preferences and the "krb5.keytab" file in /etc, then reboot.
Connecting to the AD works in Directory Access.
Configure as "OpenDirectory Master" again in Admin Server.
AD's users are now visible in the Workgroup Manager and could be nested into OpenDirectory groups to give them specific rights on the shares.

  • Can't connect to a directory system

I'm working on upgrading all of our OSX Servers from Tiger to Leopard.
Before this happens, I always test new server setups in my test lab.
I'm having a problem in this lab that I cannot figure out. All that I'm trying to do is connect a Leopard server (10.5.2) using 'Connect to a Directory System' to another Leopard server(10.5.2) that is an Open Directory Master.
I can do both forward and reverse lookups on both the servers.
LDAP server, Password Server and Kerberos are all running on the ODM.
I've added the server that I want to connect to the ODM into the computer list of the ODM's Workgroup Manager.
I've created a group of Kerberized Servers with that added computer in WGM.
I've added a Kerberos Record to the ODM which contains:
    diradmin for the administrator name
diradmin's password for the administrator password
The fully qualified domain name of the Leopard server that is going to connect to a Directory system
    diradmin as the Delegated Administrator.
I don't get an error message and the window disappears after I click add so I'm assuming the record is added.
On the server that is going to connect to the ODM, I open Open Directory Utility and I am able to bind this server to the ODM.
I next click on the Join Kerberos button.
The realm that first appears is LKDC:SHA1.763D1DFF494B476438C
I click on this and choose the Kerberos Realm that I created when I set up the ODM which is marked as (default)
I enter the username of diradmin
I enter diradmin's password for the password.
It tells me I have either an invalid username or password.
I'm pretty sure that the username is correct because if I use another username I get a delegation error that says this administrator has no delegated Kerberos Join authority. But if I go back to the diradmin username it gives me the invalid user name/password error.
Looking at the Password Service Server Log I get an error such as this when I try to join the Kerberos realm:
    RSAVALIDATE: success.
AUTH2: {0x47b35e1c6b8b4570000000200000002, diradmin} DHX authentication failed, SASL error -13 (password incorrect).
I've tried destroying the ODM multiple times. Rebooted both servers. Changed the diradmin password. Nothing works.
I'm at a loss for what to do next.

    Hi Tony,
Let tell you what I did.
    1. I created a dns record for the odm and member server on the odm
    2. Started up dns on odm
    3. I made sure both machines resolved correctly on both the member and odm using nslookup
    4. Started afp on the odm
    5. Configured Open Directory Master on ODM with the administrator diradmin
    6. Configured Directory Utility on the member server to bind to odm
    7. Made sure odm was the first one in list for authentication/contacts (it was the only one)
    8. Added a machine record for the member server on the odm. (Double checked that the MAC address was correct.)
    9. Added Kerberos record with the member server's FQDN with diradmin as the admin
    10. Went to Connect to the Directory System on the member system. It was already selected.
    11. Went into terminal on member server and ran the kadmin.local -q list_principals
It gave me the following output:

  • Connect Active Directory Sync Error - operation-size-error

We are on Connect 9. We have our Active Directory Sync running once per day. I received a sync log error as follows:
    E-Learning-All-Empl-grps
    G
    error
    Change$Update$Group: SyncTargetException: StatusException$OperationSizeError: <status code="operation-size-error"/>
The E-Learning-All-Empl-grps is a distribution list in Active Driectory that is used to contain one of 9 sublists. Each sub-list has up to 800 names. This was to get around an earlier issue with their being a limitation when we are on Breeze that only a max of 800 names could be in any group.
What does this error mean and how can I correct this?
    Dave

I tried all of this, I still can not bind my Mac 10.6.3 to Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 Active Directory, and the failure I receive that Time settings between both computers is not synced although the time is the same on both machines, and I restart the NNTP on Windows Server, and added the Active Directory IP Address on the Date & time Settings on Mac.

  • Outlook 2013 connection status 'Exchange Directory' disconnected randomly for random users (Exchange 2013)

We have been encountering an issue where upon random Outlook 2013 users are unable to open the address book, or add a room to a meeting (using 'Add Rooms...' button), and an error message is displayed that the server is unavailable. Mail flow and
    everything else functions normally.
If I look at the Outlook connection status of an affected user, I will see that all connections are established except for the 'Exchange Directory' connections which show disconnected. If I click the 'Reconnect' button the Exchange Directory connections
are re-established, and the user can now access the address book/meeting rooms as normal.
Are there any ideas what I would check, logs I could look at, events or anything I can check on the server side that might lead me to an answer what could cause this?

Outlook 2013 gets that data from Exchange 2013 by connecting to Exchange Web Services.  That's where you should look.

Currently we have 2 Directory Server instances running on 1 server. One instance is our enterprise directory and the other instance is for Access Manager. We have 4 proxy instances running on 2 servers, each server has 1 proxy instance for the enterprise directory and 1 proxy instance for Access Manger.
We do have a firewall separating the proxies from the directory servers. The session timeouts are set to 1 hour which dont seem to coincide with the errors. Additionally we are not using connection pooling.

Thanks for the response. i should have included this in my initial request, but the DS is not going down. in fact, while the DPS is showing the DS is down I can submit searches to the DS no problem. Additionally, while snooping the interface on the DS I can see traffic arriving ffrom the DPS server.
I have a ticket open with support as well, they indicate that the issue appears to occur around the time one heartbeat loop ends and another begins. They have recommended DPS patch 4.1 and hotfix 6429138.

  • Creating connection to Active Directory

    Hi there,
I am trying to create a report that can pull back the AD attribute sapUsername for users in one of our AD Org Units. Here is what i am using to create the new connection
    Connection Type: OLE DB (ADO)
Provider: OLE DB Provider for Microsoft Directory Services
    Data Source: mydc-01.domain.com
    User ID: my.name
    Password: xxxxxxxx
    Command:
    SELECT sAMAccountName, mail, sapUsername
    FROM 'LDAP://OU=User Accounts,OU=state,OU=country,OU=area,DC=domain,DC=com'
    WHERE objectClass='User'
I have read access for the entire AD tree but i am getting an error of "Table does not exist"
    Is my syntax correct?
    Thanks,
    Bernard.

It turned out my SQL syntax was correct all along. The problem was in the setup of my connection to AD in Crystal.
I found out that going New Report => Create New Connection => OLE DB(ADO) => Make New Connection => Select OLE DB Provider for Microsoft Directory Services => Click Finish instead of next. => Add your SQL command, then this worked
I dont know why, but i was not asked for any logon credentials. Could have something to do with the fact that the account i was logged in on my workstation had read access of the AD tree in the 1st place, but not sure!

  • Open Directory authentication question

I have 2 Apple servers.  One is running 10.6 (server), the other is running 10.5 (server).  I have my Open Directory on the 10.6 server, and I have the 10.5 server use it via LDAP for user authentication.  What I'd like to do is to assign a home directory on the 10.5 server for users in the 10.6 Open Directory.  Any ideas?

This should work the same way as normal.
Define the user accounts in Open Directory as normal via Workgroup Manager
On the 10.5 Server, set up a share point, usually AFP is used as the protocol, this is done in Server Admin
On the 10.5 Server, set up that share point to be an Automounted share for user home directories, this will register that share in Open Directory assuming you have already successfully connected the 10.5 Server to Open Directory system, this is also done in Server Admin
Go back to Workgroup Manager select a user account you want to store on the 10.5 server, click on the Home tab, you should now see the 10.5 share point listed as an available choice for storing home directories.
Click on the 10.5 share point and save the user account.
I normally now click on create Home directory, although this happens automatically when a user logs in for the first time.
It is perfectly ok to mix 10.5 and 10.6 servers in this manner. The client machines can also be a different version e.g. 10.4
What you are doing above even though you are mixing 10.5 and 10.6 servers, is the same as you would do to spread the workload of user home directories across multiple servers. While handling user home directories does not cause a massive amount of CPU activity (or memory use) it does cause a significant amount of disk activity and therefore at a certain level spreading user accounts across multiple servers is recommended.

  • Open Directory Keychain Question

I have set up open directory on my domain but I am having trouble with Keychain access over the network when users logging into network accounts. Whenever I log in using open directory, I can open all of my applications, however each time I log in to my user account all of my keychain passwords are reset. I can look into the user preferences file and see the keychain file, but for some reason whenever a user logs out the changes to it are lost.
Is Keychain access supported when network mounting user folders? If so, what is the proper way to implement keychain access?

It's running a fully-updated 10.6.8.  It's connected via ethernet to an Airport Extreme which is extending an 802.11N network from another Airport Extreme elsewhere which is connected to the router.  The network is set with IPv6 *off* and is configured to run over Ethernet normally (this is because a wired-only NAS is connected to the same Airport Extreme as the Mini).
Here's the symptom, and it's an odd one for me:   Every couple of days, the entirety of the Mac OS X layer (not the BSD layer) will lose network connectivity.  More specifically:
No web browser will work ('Not connected to the Internet').
Home Sharing, served on this Mini, will cease to be visible from elsewhere in the house (AppleTVs lose it).
No internal services can be reached by name, either DNS or BonJour.
The App Store says 'can't connect.'
iTunes will say it can't connect to the ITMS.
This is true on Ethernet *or* on Airport (the Mini usually runs on ethernet alone with AirPort off; bringing up Airport once this has occurred doesn't seem to help anything).
Running the Airport Utility, it sees *no devices* (there are 4 on this network)
    BUT!
If I go into the Terminal, I can not only get clear network traffic anywhere I want at the TCP layer, DNS seems to work as well.  So the following is true also:
'ping cisco.com' (or any valid DNS name) works fine - resolves DNS, pings.
'traceroute cisco.com' works fine - resolves DNS, traceroutes out across the internet, no problems.
'ping <IP address of NAS>' - works fine.
    'dig <name>' - works fine.
pinging the gateway (the router airport) works fine.
    Also:
Other Macs in the house (on wired OR wireless, connected to any of the AirPorts including the same one as the Mini) work fine.
Other Macs can see the NAS connected to that same AirPort fine.
iOS devices in the house connected to any AirPort work fine.
netstat -r shows what look to be proper routes - i.e. the default gateway is the router address (10.0.1.1) and the route to 10.0.1.1 is shown to be the MAC address of the router's Ethernet interface (anyway, as I mentioned above, network stuff from the shell works fine<!?!??!
    Steps tried:
    Turning off ipv6 - nope.
    Applying all firmware/software updates (OS X 10.6.8) - nope.
Tried manually setting DNS to Google public DNS servers - nope.  Those work fine, and are still set when the network drops out, and then don't work, nor does setting new DNS servers in the Network prefpane.
    Logging out/back in - nope.
Restarting the computer:  YES.  This works, all three times this has happened (all this week).  Serious PITA.
I tried going through the system log, but I don't see anything notable that changes or is logged when the network connection drops.
Every time the connection has stopped working, the computer *has* slept at some point since it was last known working, but if I sleep the computer manually, everything seems fine.
.....waaaaaaaah!  Help, this one is making me crazy. :-)  Thanks.  I'm terminal-savvy, and fairly OS X savvy.

I still have this issue.  About every one hour - two days the DNS layer will stop working and only a restart will fix it.
Killing mDNSResponder only resolves the issue sometimes and even then for a few seconds.
I have now found and created the following bash script, to see if this will be a more reliable non-restart fix that killing mDNSResponder in the terminal:
    #!/bin/bash
#Script to unload and reload mDNS as it is a bit crappy
    sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
    echo "mDNS unloaded"
    sleep 5
    sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
    echo "mDNS loaded"
    sleep 5
echo "Hopefully you can get on with browsing again"
I saved the above as mdns_reload.command, and then in Terminal ran "chmod u+x mdns_reload.command".  This makes the script executable.
The next time the problem occurs I am going to test how good this script is as a resolution.
The second time the problem occurs I am going to try the following, from a different thread from 2011:
I don't know if anyone will be helped by this, but the Macbook problems connecting to the internet are directly related to DNS issues. I discovered this after an upgrade to the OS X Lion preview.
The symptoms are as follows: a macbook (pro, mini, etc) can get an IP address from a DHCP server on any given network, but can not connect to the internet, even though other computers on the same network have no issues. If this sounds familiar, read on.
The problem is not related to 3rd party products, routers, Airport settings, locations or public vs private DNS servers, and you don't need to reset SMC or PRAM.
You will need to use terminal and you DO NOT want to use disk utility to repair permissions.
The most direct way to fix this is to copy the com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist and com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper.plist files from an internet connected Mac into your /System/Library/LaunchDaemons directory.
(You should know that it probably doesn't matter what version of OS X you have or the other Mac has, you just need the files.)
Next you will need to change ownership of the files just copied (ex: chown root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist and chown root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper.plist)
Then, you will need to set correct permissions (ex: chmod -R 755 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist and chmod -R 755 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist)
The last thing you'll want to do is to verify that the ownership of the files copied is set to system (and maybe wheel) using "Get Info." (Conversely, you can use ls -l /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist to verify owner and permissions.)
You should not have to restart to connect immediately to the internet.

  • Windows 7 client can't connect to Server 2008 R2 Print Server VM (ESXi 5.5)

I have an issue today that is driving me bonkers.
I recently came on-board to a company in my area as the system administrator and this network has everything and the kitchen sink wrong with the network layout, probably the worst I've seen and I'm slowly but surely fixing it day by day.....
Well today I decided I was going to spin up another VM from a template and make a Print Server, seems harmless right? --- I thought so too, added all of the printers to the server and did test pages, all was dandy, but then I tried to add the printers to
clients and other server and the real fun has begun, I'm truly perplexed now...
I added a VM to my esxi 5.5 cluster at work that is a 2008 R2 server with only print management on it. I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via
DNS. I can test printers directly from the print server successfully printing out test pages however whenever I try to map printers you know from the directory in 'devices and printers' from any of the Windows 7 clients or any of the other 2003/2008 servers
I get the classical "Windows cannot connect please check the network connection and make sure sure the printer is turned on". I disabled the windows firewall and I made the point to print GPO set to disabled and still no luck. Again I can print to
all of the printers internally inside of the VM (so I know it communicating to all of the printers), I just can't connect to the printers listed in the directory on any of external desktop/client, it's like so annoying. spent about 6 hours until my brain just
couldn't think anymore, was about to go BS on the VM.
The only thing I can think of, as I was driving home, is that there is a GPO on one of the DC that has a desginated print server policy set. But prior to last week the forest leve was 2000 and now it's 2003. I just don't know Server 2000 enough to know if GPO's
worked in the same way they do in 2003.
Right now printers are connected to other servers in a ad hoc mentality it seems, there has never been a true print server.
Anyone ever have this problem before?
    I'm truly puzzled...

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
"I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards
