Connect 2 macs with USB?

I ordered 2 macbook pros and an imac for my family. i need to transfer their files from the windows pcs to the new macs. what kind of cord do i need and where can i buy one?

Depends a lot on how much stuff you have and whether you are planning on keeping the windows machines.
the Macs all come with wireless networking and gigbit ethernet, and it is reasonably easy to set up a network connection to handle the transfer and for subsequent ongoing communication with the windows computers. On the other hand, if the amount of material is not very great then a nice big memory stick or an external drive is a great way to go (If you get an external, get one with a combined FW and USB interface - FW is much faster on the Macs than USB and you can then use the drive for backups etc).

  • Connectivity Issues with USB 3 ports on macbook pro

Hi,  I have a zoom r24 which is no longer working as an audio interface with my new macbook pro.  I have read a lot about issues with USB 2 devices not being compatible with USB 3 ports on the macs. This seems to be midi as well as audio devices.  Can anyone recommend or point me to a list of supported devices for both audio and midi which are guaranteed to work with a late 2013 macbook pro retina display.  I cant afford a thunderbolt device.  Thanks steve

Just a wild thought here, but have you tried inserting a powered USB 2.0 hub between the MacBook and the interface?

Both must be on the same network with Home Sharing enabled - via Computers icon on AppleTV and in iTunes via the menu system.

  • I have a new Mac with usb 3.0 ports. What type of cable do I use for an old usb 1 printer

I have a new IMac with usb 3 ports. What type of cable do I use for conncting on older usb 1 device?

AFAIK, use the USB 3.0 port to the printer. It should be backward compatible. If not, return the useless computer or get a new printer.

  • MacBook internet disconnects when I connect BB10 with USB

Everytime I connect my phone to my laptop via the usb (supplied with orignial device) the internet on my MacBook disconnects and I lose my VPN connection.
It seems the Z10 creates a new 'Blackberry' Network connection which overrides my computer settings. If I disable this connection it is simply recreated the next time I connect my Z10 and my internet disconnects and I lose my VPN connection.
Any idea how I can prevent this? I could do with a setting to switch this behaviour on or off rather than the Z10 assuming I want to use it to connect.

    Hey 8lettersuk,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
I have a few questions before I get started:
    1. Are you using Cisco AnyConnect as the VPN client on your Mac?
    2. What version of BlackBerry 10 are you currently running?  Go to Settings>About to find this information.
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

  • Issues with connecting macs with different versions of iphoto

I connected my iphoto 09 on my macbook pro with my girlfriends iphoto 11 on her macbook pro to transfer some photos. However after I transfered these items to her mac I now find that even though the photos still exist on my mac, iphoto 09 will not open and says because I have connected to a newer version of iphoto I will have to upgrade.
Even though I like macs I don't need or want to upgrade, I can't reinstall iphoto from my setup discs so The only option is to spend £75 on something I don't need. Can anyone give me any advice?
    Many thanks

When you opened the library with the newer version you were warned this would happen. You chose to ignore that warning.
    Your options are
    1. Upgrade iPhoto to iPhoto 11. This doesn't cost £75. An iLife 11 disk costs less than £50. Better yet, you can simply buy iPhoto on the App store for less than £15.
    2. Restore from back up - You do have a back up, right?
    3. Recover your phots from the Library and start over from scratch.

  • Trouble with connecting Mac with printing Network of PCs

Massive Frustrations. I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro with OS X to my existing PC Network. I matched up the workgroup name and the sharing folders seems to be working. The printers are listed and everything seems to be running, but when I tried printing to my HP Photosmart and my Epson Inkjet printer (both linked to my pc network), it is printing alright -BUT continously with blank pages and a lot of binary jibberish - I do not know what else to do to correct this...everything seems to be configured accordingly, but I'm not getting the correct pages when printing. Any suggestions or oppinions anyone????!?! It would help greatly.
    Thanks!

  • Connect oscilloscope with USB

    Hi,
I’m trying to connect a Tektronix TDS 2012B oscilloscope with signalexpress through USB. I’ve downloaded TEKVISA and my computer doesn’t seem to have any problem connecting with the oscilloscope. When I power up the oscilloscope I even get a popup window where I can choose to “control instrument using labview signalexpress”.  But when I start signalexpress I can’t get any connection and the program only reports “no device available”.
Does someone have any suggestions what might be wrong?
    Regards
    Niclas

    Hi there,
I think the issue is that the DSO3062A will not be recognized by LabView as a GPIB instrument through the USB connection. If you check out the 3000 series manual (http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/D3000-97016.pdf) you'll notice on page 8 it says you can't use the USB for programming, it can only be used with their scope software. You need the N2861 module installed on the back to connect via GPIB, and then a GPIB interface to your computer. I hope that helps.

  • Connection NXT with USB

    I have a problem.....
i may connect my NXT with a USB....exists a USB interface for the connection in labview 2009 with NXT toolbox??
thanks in advance for your help
    Mauro

    Hi Mauro,
you should have no problem connecting the NTX through USB with your PC.
You can have a look at the LabVIEW help for further details, see for example

  • Connecting Mac with XP

Hi just got my imac the other day and I am trying to get my mac connected to my xp laptop.
I have gotten it to connect but the problem seems to arise when it asks me for a username and password to access the server (from the go server connect). I input my main account (only user account) for the laptop which doesnt have a password assigned and it states I do not have access to the file server. I then created a special imac account on the laptop with a known password and get the same error.
I have folders ready to share just need to figure out what exact username and password it is looking for.
Since this question doesn't seem to be readily posed along the internet I am thinking I am overlooking something relatively simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevnsheri,
After digging around and going through iFelix's guide I think I have it figured out. I was surprised at the lack of information on this topic so I felt compelled to figure this out.
First: I would complete iFelix's guide so there is no weirdness with user account miss-match between Windows XP and your Mac OS X.
iFelix: You may want to consider adding this to your guide if you find it to be useful. Thanks for the nice work on your guide by the way.
Second: Once you've made sure your mac user account has been given a password and your matching windows account has a password associated with it you can proceed on to the next step. I found it to be easier to just rename my windows account to match my mac short name account by the way.
Third: Check to ensure you've disabled "Simple File Sharing" on your windows machine. My Computer -> Tools(Menu) -> Folder Options -> View(Tab) -> Uncheck "use simple file sharing". You should now be able to view the "Share" and "Security" tabs for a folder's properties.
Forth: Pick a folder to share (c:\temp) and enable sharing. Select the "Security" tab and view the permissions for your user account you intend to have your mac connect to. Ensure you have all the appropriate boxes checked. In my case nothing was checked, so I didn't have any permissions on the "temp" folder.
Fifth: On your mac start your "Keychain" app. Delete all references to your windows box by right-clicking and selecting "Delete". Now switch to finder and select your windows pc under "Networks". You'll probably need to select the "Connect As" button (Leopard) and punch in your windows account name and password. Select "Save password to keychain" option and future access should not require a login.
    I hope this helps...

  • Connect mac with tc via ethernet for tm backups

    Hi,
I know there's probably already an answer to this question, but I just can't find it.
I normally connect to my time capsule via wifi, but I've been on holiday and made no backups, so now it would take ages. that's why I'd like to do it via ethernet.
If I plug the ethernet cable into the tc and the macbook, I can see the connection in the network setup, but it still does the backup via wifi. And if I turn the wifi of, the time capsule connection is gone.
I already managed to change the setting of the time capsule to ethernet once, but that was under the old airport version. With the airport 6.0 and higher, I don't know how to do this.

Don't touch the existing utility.. just install the new one.. both will list in utilities folder.. only start the one you want.
    katharina21 wrote:
I'm running OS X 10.7 and right now, I have wifi and the tc is connected wirelessly to the mac
How is the TC connected to the main router?? That is more important.. but it sounds like you have it connected correctly by ethernet.

  • Iphone connection problem with USB

ok so my phone is not detected on windows vista
it always says USB device not recognized blah blah
but when i connect my brother's iphone or friend's iphone it always is able to detect it and load the driver properly so my itunes can connect
so i look at my device manager when their iphones are connected and there is a yellow exclamation point under portable devices > iphone and it says that code 31, driver did not load properly
also, when i connect my phone through USB on a macbook it doesn't work but when i connect via firewire it does work.
would having a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire adapter be good enough for me to be able to at least sync my phone.
and does anyone know anything that would help with the USB problem.
do i need to ssh into my phone or something and see if my driver is working correctly
i've had this problem for some time

The only step left is to remove iTunes and i would recommend all Apple products like quicktime and the like (as sometimes you will get a DEP error if you haven't done so, prevention better than a cure and all that)along with removing the drivers in Vista and re-install all that from scratch.
If this doesn't work then i would suggest a call to AppleCare or a visit to see a Genius at an Apple store as it could very well be hardware related.
    NOTE:
This is all assuming you are using the same logon to windows when you are connecting both your iPhone and your brothers along with using the same cable/dock and that you have either logged into Vista as an Administrator or have chosen to run iTunes in Administrator mode.

  • Unable to connect macs with afp file sharing

I am suddenly unable to connect my MacBook Pro to my Mini using afp file sharing. I've done this successfully many times in the past, most recently about three weeks ago.
After using Go -> Connect to Server and picking the previously used Favourite Server entry, I get the Connecting to Server window, then after about a minute I get a pop up that says:
    Connection failed
The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
Then the Finder icon jumps about and in the Connecting to Server window the message is:
The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "afp://aragorn" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)
Both machines are connected by Cat-6 cable to the same router, File Sharing is enabled on both machines, and Airport is switched off. I can ping each machine from the other, and both otherwise work fine. I've also tried connecting using the IP address instead of the machine name, with the same result. I've even tried another router, with the same result.
    Anyone seen this before?
    thanks in advance,
    I.B.

Thanks, j.v., for your reply. It's very strange, this.
I tried your suggestion, but to no avail. The destination machine is visible using ⇧⌘K and under 'Shared' in the sidebar of the Finder window, but selecting it from either place didn't work.
However, after the connection attempts failed, I tried clicking on the 'Connect as' button in the Finder window, and after a bit I got the login credentials window. It allowed me to log in, then connected with the access I was after.
I guess it must be some sort of access permissions issue, but it's quite odd that it only just started happening as I move files between these two machines frequently, and never had any problems before. The 'error code 36' message is completely useless for troubleshooting...

  • Connect WRT54G2 with USB?

The ethernet port on my Motorola SB5120 modem (3 yrs old) has never seemed to work.  I've always used the USB port on the modem as a workaround.  But now I've purchased a WRT54G2 and can't figure out how to use the modem and router without an ethernet connection on my modem.  Any advice?  Hopefully something cheaper than buying a new modem.
My internet connection is high-speed cable.

Thanks for the response but I think the ethernet port on my modem is broken and that is my whole dilemma.  I can't seem to get it to work on my laptop or PC.  Just the USB connection to the modem.  I don't think I want to risk spending $37 on the converter to find out.  I appreciate the suggestion.
