Connect 2 switch with fiber

Hi everybody,
I´m trying connect two catalyst 3560 Catalyst switch through fiber.  I have a network in the office, it is working. Now, I need to take a switch in my office network (switch A) and add a new switch (switch B) for connect a near office. I have the same converter modulo in   both extreme (finisar trj8519p1bnl-mc), I configured the switch B with Ethernet wire (from 10.0.0.1) and I put an IP within to office range IP (the same that others switch).
But when I connect the fiber in both switch port, the ports led are off. When I access to web interface from switch A, I can see the fiber port in yellow.
Somebody can help me?
Thanks!

Unsure if this is your issue, but many Cisco devices, by default, won't run non-Cisco optics.  If not already doing so, you might try adding "service unsupported-transceiver" to your configuration.

  • Connecting 2 switches with Fiber

    Hi,
I have a basic question regarding two 3750G switches I would like to connect using fiber.
I have the 2 Twingig modules converter available for each switch.
I need to know my requirement to connect these two switch by their uplink.
I have already on my list:
1 SFP module (GLC-SX-MM) the question is how many SFP modules will I need to connect these 2 switches as each switch has 2 Twingig port (hence 4 SFP ports available). since each Twing Gig port has 2 SFP module.should I use 1 Twin Gig module and ordre 2 SFP modules (GLC-SX-MM) for each switch (hence 4 GLC-SX-MM )for the connection to work ?
Thanks for your guidance and related documentation you'll be giving.

According to the following Cisco document, the Twingig converter module can be used with up to 2 SFPs; which would seem to indicate the use of 1 SFP in a Twingig converter module is supported.
    <http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750e_3560e/hardware/install/notes/1757202.html>
You could install 2 SFPs per switch and run EtherChannel to gain additional uplink bandwidth.

  • Problems connecting two stacks with fiber

I am having problems getting the 2 stacks to see each other with fiber. just your basic stacks, nothing fancy. Is there a line in the config that needs to be added? Fiber LED's are not lit.

    Hi!
As you said the fiber LEDs are not lit, that means the ports are not 'up' so the stacking has not been done.
Log into your switches and then run the command 'Show int interface name' to know the status of the fiber ports.
Also check the connectivity of the stacking cables with the ports in the switch. Maybe you can take them out and then connect them again.

  • Link switches with fiber.

I have two cisco switches with 2 GBIC ports each. I want to link them with fiber.
I have two ws-g5484 that was gave to me. What else do I need to link these switches?
Do I need media converters and if so how many.
    Thank You
    Bo Hunter

Media converters are necessary only when your switch does not have the correct fiber interface available.
Make sure the GBIC you have is compatible with your switch using the link below.
    GE GBIC Compatibility Matrix
    <http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html>
Also, make sure your fiber is multimode (MMF) and that the link length meets the specs outlined in the data sheet, based on the fiber type:

  • Connecting two 4510r with Fiber

I would like to connect two 4510r (50 Km separated) via FO but it doesn´t seem to support ZX FSPs and the supervisors don´t have GBIC slots. Any recommendations?

    Two questions -
    What Sup is in question?
Are you using this SFP( part number GLC-ZX-SM=) ?
This SFP seems to be supported by Sup IV and SuP V.

Also check this link. The highlight being
"Cisco 1000BASE-ZX GBIC can reach up to 62 miles (100 km) by using dispersion shifted SMF or low-attenuation SMF; the distance depends on fiber quality, number of splices, and connectors."

  • Connect Cisco 3750 with Fiber

"Is Cisco 3550 using a WS-G5486 Gigabit module? What's SFP module would you use to connect a Cisco WS-C3750X-48P-L PoE switch ? Does anyone have experience with SX to LX adapters and if they are reliable?"
A:Hi, to connect them well, you would need to use a GLC-LH-SMD transceiver for this, and a LC-SC single-mode patch cord (if they're being connected directly without an intermediate patch-panel).

I am not an expert with Cisco WS-C3750X-48P-L PoE switch but you may want to post it to Cisco community forum. Here's the link to that: https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/5976/small-business-switches

  • What do I connect 2 switches with router

Hi, Everyone. I have this trouble and would like to get help.
Here is my situation. I have one Verizon router in basement. I run the ethernet cable from router to one room in first floor. I have one Linksys switch in this room. This is switch 1. I have 2 computers connect to this switch, all working well. I then, run the cable from this room to second floor. If I directly connect this cable to computer in second floor, it works well. But, I have more computers in second floor. I bought another Linksys switch, switch 2. Here is my trouble, if I connect the cable from switch 1 to switch 2, and connect computer to switch 2, I have trouble.
All lights are on and stable, and seems all correct. But, from computer, I cannot see any connectivity, even I set up the IP address manually, it will not connect.
I called Linksys supporting center. First, I was told that I should put cable in Uplink in Switch 1, and port 1 in switch 2. I did so. Does not work. Then, I was told that I should put cable in port 1 in switch 1, and port 1 in switch 2. I did so. Does not work.
I am quite confused. In concept, I think, my configuration should work well. But, why not? Please advise on 1) If this configuration should work? 2) If should work, how can I do?
    Thanks a lot for everyone.

Thanks for your inputs. Here is the exact configuration.
Router: Verizon Action Router. It has 4 numbered ports.
I run straight cable from router to room 1 in that I have Switch 1.
Switch 1 is EZXS88W (version 3.3). I put cable from router into port 7. This switch works very well. NO problem at all.  All ports are working well. So far, I connect 3 devices into this switch. None has problem.
I then run straight cable from switch 1 to another room. There I have swtich 2. It is EZXS55W (version 4.1). I put the cable into port 1 of switch 2 (actually, I tried all ports). Then it does not work. No connectivity at all. I call the cable from room 1 to room 2 as Cable A (it is a straight cable). If I put cable A directly into computer, it works well. But, if I put into switch 2 (any ports) then connect computer to switch 2, I have no connection.
This is exactly my situation. What is the problem? What is the solution?
EZXS55W afaik is "smart port" so you can put that into any of the numbered ports ( I prefer port 1), have you tried switching these two "switches" to see if the autosensing feature of the 2nd switch is not broken?
Also, what IP address are you getting on the computer you connected on the line going to the 2nd switch? It may be on static ip, but if not... can you try connecting that line back then set a static IP on the pc to check if it at least pings the first set of computers and router??

  • 4900 M Switch with 3750 FiBer connectivity

    Hi,
We need to connect following switch over DarK Finber
    4900M  with this fiber
    <TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" mcestyle="height: 15pt;">
    <TD style="WIDTH: 88pt; HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20 width=117 mcestyle="width: 88pt; height: 15pt;">10GBase-LX4
     or
    10GBase-LR
Other end we are having 3750-48 TS with this module :1000BaseSX SFP
Will the above fiber module are compatible ?
    Br/Subhojit

on 4900M side: we have any one of them : 10GBase-LX4,10GBase-LR ( Which end physical termination SC)On 3750 Side: we have 1000BaseSX SFP ( switch end physical termination LC)
Not remotely compatible for two reasons:
    1.  One end is LR and the other end is SX.  Both has to be the same, either LR-LR or SX-SX.  Not both.
    2.  One end is 10 Gbps and the other is 1 Gbps.  Both end has to be same, either 10 Gbps or 1 Gbps.
In case the same is not compatible, what is the possbile workaround
The 4900M can support CVR-X2 module.  So if you have WS-X4908 line card, you just get one CVR-X2 module and you should be able to use the following 1Gbps SFP modules:
    GLC-T (1000BASE-T)
    GLC-SX-MM
    GLC-LH-SM
    GLC-ZX-SM
    GLC-SX-MMD
    GLC-LH-SMD
    GLC-BX-D
    GLC-BX-U
    CWDM SFP
    DWDM SFP
    DWDM SFP (add.)
    GLC-EX-SMD
    (CPN 10-2624-01
    or later only)
    GLC-ZX-SMD

  • Two switches connected with fiber in mode trunk - Problem

    Hi to all.
Iam new in the forum, and my english is bad.
I want to post a problem. I have two switches connected with fiber in mode trunk, in the switch C3550 i have this configuration:
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    description Enlace LAB Medicion
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    no ip address
    duplex full
    spanning-tree portfast
In the switch C2960 this configuration, on interfaces Fa0/48, Giga0/1:
    interface FastEthernet0/48
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,20,229
    switchport mode trunk
    spanning-tree portfast
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,20,229
    switchport mode trunk
    media-type sfp
    duplex full
    spanning-tree portfast
    The problem:
The ip phones with Voice vlan (vlan 20), not find the DHCP server located in the data vlan (vlan 229)
    However, using the command:
    #switchport trunk native vlan 229
The result is the voice vlan works, but the data vlan not and viceversa depending if the native vlan 229 is present.
    I will appreciate any suggestion.

    leolaohoo.
The configuration on ports switch C2960, have the mode access with voice vlan 20:
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    switchport access vlan 229
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 20
    spanning-tree portfast
    interface FastEthernet0/2
    switchport access vlan 229
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 20
    spanning-tree portfast
I will remove from trunk links:
    spanning-tree portfast
    Thanks alot.

  • Connecting two Nexus switches with link

    Hi,
I would like to connect two nexus switches with a link. Like one c5020 and one c5548p. How do i need to configure the ports at both the switches which will be joined with a fiber cable.
For MDS switches such links becomes E-port and fabric is merged. Not sure what happenes at the Nexus swictches. Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Do you have fc modules in each nexus? If so, they act much like the MDS 9148. All ports should be default auto speed and auto switchport mode. Insert fc-sfp's and a regular multimode fc cable between them. Default mode is fc switch.
If that doesn't work, configure the mode on each port as E.
Once done, the fc switch portion of each nexus will merge.

  • Hi, I recently got myself an apple iphone 5s (factory unlocked) phone from the US. However on using the same in India with Vodafone, i am facing a problem where the connectivity keeps switching to EDGE most of the time. Any solutions??

    Hi,
I recently got myself an apple iphone 5s (factory unlocked) phone from the US. However on using the same in India with Vodafone, i am facing a problem where the connectivity keeps switching to EDGE most of the time. I have a 3G plan but most of the time it switches automatically to EDGE. Thats when i have to either switch Airplane mode - On/Off and then it acts normal. Any permanant solutions to fix this problem?

Return the iPhone personally or via friend/relative/co-worker who is in
the US. The warranty is valid only in the country of original purchase - the USA
in this case. Apple will not accept international shipments for evaluation nor
will Apple ship out of the country after repair/replacement.
How did the iPhone from the US get to you in India? Reverse that process to
get it back to the US so someone can take it into Apple.

  • Help with connecting MacBook Pro with Cisco Routing and Switches?

I'm running a CiscoASA 5510 router with several Cisco WS-C2960-48TT-L switches on a local network to connect with MacBook Pro. I need to be able to restrict access to specific users via their computer MAC address. ie: Joe Blow is limited to connecting through Switch 1 on port 10 and anywhere else he tries to plug in will simply not work.

You need to look at the documentation that came with your router and switches. Or ask your network admin to set it up. Your question has nothing to do with your Macbook Pro configuration. MAC filtering is done in the router not in the computers/devices connecting to the router.

  • I try to switch on my WiFi connection at home with ADSL router. Always I get the answer - Wrong password. The pasword used is correct. It works with another hardware.

I try to connect my iPhone with internet through WiFi with ADSL router. My network is visible. When I try to connect it, I write the password and I get always one answer - WRONG PASSWORD. The same password works perfectly with other two computers and other smartphone.

Did you already try to reset your network settings on the phone in Settings/General/Reset/Network settings ?
