Connect 8520 to PC

I have changed my PC so reloaded the desktop software - all was OK and it worked perfectly.
It then auto-updated from the update site to 6.1.0.35 and a new driver loaded - now the new software loads when I connect the USB port to my 8520 but it sits there with "connect your Blackberry Device" .
I have deleted and downloaded the software three times now.

Further to this problem..... I have deleted and loaded the software (again!) and the first time it loads it, updates the driver and connects and runs normally - but then all subsequent connections to the PC are recognised by the PC (by a sound and by loading the Windows 7 "Autoplay" window (I can see the Blackberry Directory from this).
BUT - the Blackberry Desktop Software just displays the "Connect your Blackberry Device" screen and no more. HELP

    Hi!
I've seen a few other messages about my problem, but I still don't know how to solve it.
I have a BB Curve 8520. I want to use a running app and because the 8520 doesn't have a GPS, I bought an external one; B Speech keychain GPS.
My BB can find the gps en it shows that they are connected, but when I use the navigation on BB maps of MapMyRun there is no connection.
    Please help me!!

I've used the Freedom Mini GPS dongle with success, it works.
i don't know about your model. Is it compatible with BlackBerry?

  • My BB 8520 won't connect via USB after the firmware upgrade

    Hi,
All was working fine until I followed the upgrade prompts. The 'phone works but a) it won't accept Opera Mini 5.1 (which was in the 'phone already) and b) I cannot connect to the PC via the USB cord.
    What happened?
This 'phone shares the same SIM card with 3 Nokias (E72, E90, E62) and I've never had firmware upgrade problems with them - in Symbian OS.,
    Any ideas?

EDIT: Link Removed. Please review User Guidelines  under section "No spam please."

    Hi, again -
Just downloaded Bolt and I like it also. (No more zooming: whoopee!)
Never heard of this browser before, having used Opera Mini/Mobile (depending upon the 'phone) since 2004. Was on E-Mails for cell 'phones dating back to 1997, coast to coast: primitive service back then! [Rarely did I use the default browser on any 'phone I've had, including Motorola and Palm before Nokia.]
Bolt loaded faster than Opera Mini 5.1 did on my Nokias and the Blackberry 8520: amazing!
Now my "not as good as a Nokia with Symbian" handset is useful again. The firmware upgrade did improve the videos and the links to them, so it was a GAIN SOME FEATURES and LOSE SOME FEATURES firmware upgrade.
Probably Opera will have a link for the Blackberry 5 platform, eventually. The problem, I think, was that the link only worked with three versions of their 4 edition.
    You have made my day!
    Thanks.
    Regards, Douglas
PS: Not until the Nokia E90 Communicator was off the market for a year or so, did Opera put out a Mobile browser which functioned on it. The Communicator - in a variety of versions - had a 12 year run in Finland, something of a record for handsets in this field. For Word .docs, fast typing and office style activities, it's hard to beat. (You can't wear one in your pocket if the garment is Spandex, of course.) The music on the E90 is loud and good; with the wireless aux. speakers it rivals a portable stereo, so I use it for that purpose much of the time, even when off-line.

  • No internet, how to connect? BB curve 8520

    Hi,
i have a BB curve 8520, i bought it through Optus (it is unlocked now) but am connected through virgin australia
Virgin has no settings for it and tell me to ring blackberry but i cannot find a number in australia to ring
can anyone give me any info on how to connect it to get mms and to get onto the internet pleaseeee

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as additional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call Virgin and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
    Good luck.

  • BB desktop mgr software on 8520 demands unlock code to connect

I would like to backup my wife's unlocked 8520 (running tmobile). Her friend tried installing a app awhile ago (I don't know the details) and the result was that the blackberry deleted all it's data instead. Thought I'd install the BB desktop manager software (for Win7) but when connected it's asking for the 'unlock code.' Wifey is scared s---less that the moment I enter the unlock code, her bb is going to self-destruct again. And, of course, I don't want to be between her and the phone if that were to happen ;-). Can anyone tell if it's safe to proceed? Or, if not (or if questionable), is there any other way to backup/restore the phone's data? She has no data plan, btw. Just the $30/mo tmobile talk/text is sufficient for her purposes.
    Thanks much for any help!
    Solved!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It sounds like she's got a device lock password assigned to her BB. When that is in place, it is required when connecting to the PC to do anything with that BB at all. So, from the PC keyboard, you must enter the exact same password that she normally uses to unlock her BB on it's keyboard. Be careful, though, given the difference in the keyboards...many folks think that, on their BB, they are typing some specific characters for their passwords when in fact their password is something completely different...it's the actual characters of the password that are required, not just the physical keys on the BB keyboard that are pressed (the use of ALT and other key modifiers changes the resulting character on the BB keyboard).
If you enter it wrong, it should say so, as well as tell you how many attempts you have left (typically there are 10 attempts). If that happens, then you can always untether and enter the password on the BB keyboard (they are the same counter), watching closely then to see what the actual password characters are.
    Good luck!

  • I cannot connect BB 8520 with external GPS Holux via Bluetooth. Please Help!

I've bought a M1200 HOLUX gps and I'm trying to sincronize it with a Blackberry Curve 8520. The problem is:
    - BB finds correctly M1200 via bluetooth, and sincronizes well with the the PIN
    - M1200 Holux appears in bold just a few seconds after sincronization.
    - But then, M1200 appears only in plain text (not bold) as it's not connected. In the BB options, it doesn't appear the option "Connect" as with the rest of bluetooth devices.
I've tried several times but always happen the same. M1200 is not able to keep the bt connection.
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks in advance

  • Unable to connect to wifi 8520

    Hi,
I bought a 8520 in the first week of Jan 2010 and trying to connect to wifi available on the college campus. The secured wifi is giving some problems which even the IT dept of our college is unable to solve.
We use PEAP security setting for the network and even after punching all the required settings I am unable to connect and its giving authorization error.
My default browser is also set to Hotspot.
The other issue which I am facing is that my BB restarts automatically in its own. This is very weird as there is sufficient battery and even then it gets switched off and starts on its own.
    Please help!!!

    Hello shamae_96,
The following article may help regarding the "Unable to connect" error message you are receiving when attempting to connect to your Wi-Fi network:

  • 8520 wont connect to home wifi

    Please help.
I cant get my daughters 8520 to connect to our home wifi.
I have searched and found my wifi, saved it and it says connected.
But when i click on the browser button it says unable to connect or sometimes just a blank white screen.
I have followed the setup advice but no joy.

I had the same issue with my own 8520. Is your daughter on a contract that includes data? When i upgraded my contract to get a data allowance an upgrade came down on my phone that allowed wifi access.

  • 8520 Bluetooth not connecting to a paired device

Help, I have paired my bury cradle to the 8520 but it will not connect!!  its keeps failing, anyone else had this issue?

Windows network names should be short, have no spaces and be pure alphanumeric.
Does your airport have a wireless name like,
    Fred Blog's Airport Extreme wireless.
It is 1. Too Long.. make it short. 2. Spaces, get rid of them, 3. Illegal apostrophe.
    Try AEwifi for eg
And AEgenx for base station name.
Still have issues, try giving a different wireless name to each band, eg AE24ghz and AE5ghz and lock the wireless channel at least for the 2.4ghz.
Test with no security and then use WPA2 Personal with password of 8-20 characters, pure alphanumeric mix of upper, lower case and numbers.
Still got troubles.. some info would help.
What device.. what windows.. what airport.. to start with.

  • Automatic expensive downloads / connections BB Curve 8520

    Hi @ all,
I'm located in Germany and try to explain my problem/those of my girlfriend   with her curve 8520.
In September she added an internatflat  and one month later  the blackberry option to use the messenger and email.  provider is Mobilcom Debitel and the net is T mobile.
Now it came up that her bill increased a lot and the provider can not explain to us.
the internet flat is for 200 MB, afterwards slowlier.
The BB option is for 1 MB, actually the  private email is not much.
Now the single connection list shows per day several connections and sometimes at midnight as well   going to
    "gprs://blackberry.net"
the kilobytes for those connections are between 10 and 1440.
Now we disconnected the email account from the phone, but we still have this problem.
    Can somebody help?
Are there settings to be changed or what?
    Many thanks
    Best regards
    Chris

Interesting. But if it says that, just try clicking yes. And correct, the PSK is the pre-shared key, or the wifi password.
If that still doesn't work, then the solution may be to back up your phone using the BlackBerry Desktop Software and perform a security wipe. To do that, go to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe. Perform a wipe of the application data. Once that is complete, perform a selective restore using the BlackBerry Desktop Software and restore just the databases you need (e.g. messages, address book, calendar, etc).
You should then be able to start from scratch again.
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
