  • Connect ipod to two computers???

Is there any way I can connect my ipod to two different computers without it wiping out all my music on my ipod? One is a Dell desktop (2005) and the other is an IBM thinkpad (2005).

Your iPod can only sync with one computer at a time however, if you set it for manual management you can connect it to another and add music from that computer. Check here to learn more.

  • How to use ONE IPod on TWO Computers

I have an Desktop-PC using ITunes 5.0 and an IPod 20 GB. When I connect my IPod with my Laptop, the complete IPod is deleting by the ITunes on the Laptop. How can I use ONE IPod on TWO Computers without deleting the music hole time?!

I think you need to manually update on at least the computer that has the smaller music selection.
it may be best to turn off automatic updates on both machines and manually add and delete songs.
or you could network both computers to share one music library

  • Connecting iPod to two computers - not setup for Apple account ...

A co-worker bought an iPod classic and downloaded and installed iTunes on his desktop computer at home.
He did NOT create an iTunes account at the time. He just imported music off his hard drive and CDs and then sync'd his iPod. After that he started creating playlists.
Now he has a laptop that he wants to also connect the iPod too. He downloaded iTunes, connected the iPod, and it says it was sync'd to another computer and do you want to erase all the files off the iPod and sync it with iTunes on this computer. I told him to click on cancel.
The question is, how does he get it so both computers have the same account?
The easier one to modify would be the laptop. We can copy iTunes folder to somewhere else to back them up. Now how do we create a compatible account on the laptop so the iPod knows it is the same account? Does that make sense?
I did have him create an iTunes account and I would like to get both of his Windows computers set so that this is the account both computers see.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected you can change to manual as per the instructions above: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Connecting iPod to two computers

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I was under the impression when I bought my iPod that it could be synchronised with two computers. I have 2 Macs at home and want to also sync with my PC at work. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
One final thing, If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats): How to determine your iPod's disk format
Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac. One proviso is that all future software updates for the iPod would have to be carried out in Windows to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews. It's a commercial program so you'll have to purchase a license to use it: XPlay 2

  • Can I Sync My iPod on Two Computers?

I have two computers (Windows) with my account. My main one has a USB issue, so I upgraded to iOS5 on the other. Is there still a way to wirelessly sync to my main computer? My iPod is looking for the secondary computer and thus is not seeing my main one. Thanks!

Is there at least a way to change which computer it syncs with without a USB cable. I figured with iOS 5 and iCloud I could sync to my laptop wirelessly, but I guess it doesn't work if the music I have isn't from iTunes. (Most of mine is, so that's good, but not all.)

  • Using the 1 iPod on two computers - problem..!!!

hi all. first off i aspologise if this question has been asked before. heres my problem. On my PC at work i installed my iPod and iTunes and started to load up the iPod over a few weeks. Tonight, i installed a new PC at home. I installed the latest version of iTunes onto this PC at home and downloaded songs. I connected the iPod (which has my work-downloaded music on it)and it updated it with the songs i had downloaded at home onto it. Now, the only songs that are on the ipod are these home downloaded ones....all the songs i downloaded at work neither show on my home version of itunes nor the ipod. Have i just commited ipod suicide???!! sorry if this seems a really dumb question, but im just wondering what to do next. Thanks for helping. Ronan

    Hello Ronan,
If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer (as in your case where have one at home and one you use at work) you can change the update preference to "manually manage songs and playlists". By doing this, you can listen to and update your iPod at work where you have iTunes with a different library of tracks. Change the update option on your home computer, you'll have to add the ones from work over again manually but all is not lost.

    Managing Your Songs Manually
One other thing to remember about manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Connecting different iPods to different computers

My wife has a 4th gen iPod and wants to connect to each of our laptops. I have music and photos on my laptop and she has other music and photos on hers. Back in the old days of iTunes you can set up iPod prefs before you plugged it in. How can she plug into each laptop and download selected songs, photos, files or whatever without erasing what she has on it. I am thinking of getting a new iPod video for myself and doing the same thing. We are running the latest version of iTunes.

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings: iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts for OSX
Once you are connected change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
You can only load photos from one computer. There's no manual mode for photos just different ways to sync so adding photos can only happen from one computer or user account: iPod Photo Sync FAQ

  • IPod over two computers - Question.

My 5G iPod will arrive this week. In preparation I put a DVD on my laptop and sorted it all out so it works on iTunes. However, I use my Windows Computer the most and this has all my music on.
When my 5G comes, how can I upload all my music onto my iPod using my computer and upload the DVD from my laptop on to it? I don't want to transfer all my music onto the laptop.
    Any ideas?

So is your laptop a Mac ? Then it won't be possible, aka supported by Apple, because you will need to reformat your iPod's HD for use with a PC or a Mac every time you swap computers. However, it is possible to use third-party software that will allow your Mac or PC to read and write to your other-platform formatted iPod. Some experienced posters in the iPod > Connecting to Windows section might be able to tell you more on this.

  • Using 5th generation IPOD on two computers

    I just bought a new 30GB 5th generation Ipod.
I travel for the government - one laptop I use at home, the other I use when traveling overseas. I use the same IPOD on both computers - or so I thought.
Now I discover that when I try to use the same IPOD with my other computer, all the data is wiped out since I can only use my IPOD with one and one only computer.
Is there any way I can get this adjusted? In my case it would be very difficult since my travel laptop only has a small hard drive and I can't keep all my music, etc there..but I can't take my big ipod with me.

  • How to import songs onto iPod from two computers?

this probably was posted before, but is there anyway to upload songs from two different computers?
i have songs on my mom's computer that i dont have on my dads.

Try turning off auto-update. Right click your iPod, and go to iPod Options. Under music, click 'manually manage songs and playlist.' It should work after that. You will probabl have to do it on both computers.

  • Can i use one ipod on two computers?

    Can anyone help me please?
My son has ipod shuffle and has a separate itunes account, but before he got an ipad for his birthday, we set up itunes on my home computer, using my itunes account.
His account has lots of credit whereas mine now doesn't as we have to use my account to purchase his music!
We need to know if it's possible for him to purchase music from his itunes account either directly from his ipad or from my computer using his itunes a/c and ipod. A friend told him that he can't use his ipod on another account as it would wipe out his songs. Is this correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you need to manually update on at least the computer that has the smaller music selection.

  • Can I connect my ipod to 2 computers?

Just bought my first ipod. First used it with my laptop but now that ive bought things from itunes on my PC at home, it won't sync them to my ipod because it says 'i'm not authorised to view it on this computer'.
    I'm confused.
Does that mean i can only use it with my laptop because thats the one i originally set it up with?

To use it with multiple computers you need to set it to Manually Manage Your Music on the original computer you set it up on. If you are talking about purchased music, make sure your home computer is authorized on your iTunes Store account.

  • Problems using a Single Ipod on two computers

I have my home computer with a huge library and my office computer with minimal songs.
I recently brought my ipod to work and hooked it up to the work computer. It installed and synced ok, I can see my ipod and all the songs... but everything is greyed out.
I can't select anything on the ipod and I can't play it through itunes. I also tried adding songs to the ipod by dragging from my library to my ipod, but it doesn't work. Nothing happens at all... what am I doing wrong?

You have to switch the iPod from auto mode to manual manage in order to use it on two or more iTunes libraries. When the iPod is mounted and you can go into the summary page for it in iTunes, select the check box to manually manage your iPod then "apply" that setting the iPod and now you can play songs out of your iPod via the iTunes interface.
