Just go to System Preferences / Time Machine / Select Disk option, then your Time Capsule should list there, select it then follow normal step to set it up.

This is crude but if you need a work around, just plug the USB drive directly into the iMac.. copy the files to it.. then plug it into the TC.
You also do not need to use the TC as an intermediary between your iMac and MBP.. just turn on sharing in the computer.. so you can directly copy files from one to the other.. Macs have public access directory preconfigured for each user account.
As far as mounting the TC..
In finder use Go, Connect to server.. and type.
AFP://TCname or TCipaddress
Where TCname is the actual name of the TC.. I strongly recommend you follow SMB network rules.. ie if your TC has a name like
Fred Blog's Time Capsule 2445566.
It is too long.. it has spaces and it has non-alphanumeric characters.
Shorten it to FredTC
No spaces no characters that are NOT alphanumeric.
TCIPaddress is simply the standard IP.
You can also use CIFS://TCname which according to the article forces the connection back to SMB1 rather than SMB2 which as usual is broken.
But I would definitely use AFP if possible. I cannot understand the decision to move to SMB as standard.

MacBook Pro loses connection to Internet after sleep using Airport Time Capsule

I recently upgraded to Mavricks and then added a new Airport Time Capsule, and now I my MBP will not connect to the wireless LAN after waking up from sleep mode. My MBP worked great for over a year with an non-Apple router, so I am thinking that there is a new Apple computer-to-Apple Router issue going on. Any thoughts, suggestions?
I read all the threads and have followed all the simple advice, such as making sure the Airport is at the top of the network priority list, etc, to no avail. I end up having to reboot my MBP to get reconnected, which is super frustrating.

How to connect to ethernet and wireless on AirPort Time Capsule?

New 2TB AirPort Time Capsule. I have a Motorola SurfBoard modem (modem only). The AirPort is replacing a Wireless N router. The wireless setup was a breeze, but ethernet ports do not work when AirPort is configured for DHCP (or DHCP and NAT). If I change it to Bridge all of my eNet devices work perfectly, but then I don't have wireless. I could not find any documentation on how to configure this correctly. I called Apple Care, but they were unable to help at all. Apple Care told me to bring the AirPort back to the Apple store to test it. Has anyone successfully setup the new AirPort Time Capsule to replace a wireless router?

So about 24 hours after getting mine to work it suddenly stopped.
None of the above resetting procedures worked.
Then a really goofy thing happened. I was in AirPort Utility and I had just received the error message that the set up did not work as I was trying to hard reset everything and start over for the 3rd or 4th time.
Just then my Wi-Fi only iPad chimed with an incoming text message. The time capsule was flashing amber which would indicate that it had not set up a network. AirPort Utility was showing that an unknown error had occurred and that I should try again. Despite this my iPad 2 was showing a good connection to the wireless network that I had tried to create in AirPort Utility but which it told me me had failed.
I then clicked the wifi thing on the tool bar, it connected to my network and all was good.
My 2 cents? This should still be in beta as Airport Utility and the new TC are not working as they should. I'm in 10.7.5 and 6.1.4 and the latest AU.

New Macbook does not recognize Time Capsule backup from old macbook

I just purchased a late 2013 13" macbook pro. I have a mid 2009 macbook pro running Mavericks. The new macbook will not recognize the time capsule backup from my old macbook. I am trying to migrate all data over, but the new mac does not ever acknowledge the external drive that contains the backup. I've tried two different external drives with the same result each time. Both computers are running Mavericks.

Do you see the drive in Disk Utility?
If yes, run Repair Permissions then restart the drive.
1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
2. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.
In System Preferences > Time Machine can you select the old Time Machine with Select Disk?

I have macbook pro and iMac. I connected both of them to the airport time capsule and everything is going ok. My question is: Can I enter the backup of iMac from the macbook pro and vice versa? I want to easily synchronise both machines

I can't connect to the drive on my airport time machine and am receiving the message: "AirPort Time Capsule" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

Time capsule has been working perfectly for months.
Suddenly I can't connect to the drive on my airport time capsule and am receiving the message: “AirPort Time Capsule” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Time machine appears to be still backing up (last backup within the last hour), but drive is not visible and I have files stored on it.
I have tried rebooting everything in order as suggested for other issues, anyone got any ideas how to see the drive again??

What OS are you running??
It is very typical Yosemite issue.
1. In airport utility does the TC show up.. if so click it.. and see the summary page which will include its IP address. That is what you are after.
From my screenshot you can see the TC address is 192.168.2.57
It might well show up briefly after a reboot or in ipad / iphone version utility. Yosemite is hopeless. The airport utility hardly works.
2. In Finder use Go, Connect to server.
Type in SMB://192.168.2.57 (replace with IP you discover).
If it is possible it will request a password.. type that in and DO NOT FORGET.. to store it in your keychain.
This will work until the TC changes IP which won't happen if it is main router.. but will happen if it is bridged.. so you need to tell me the whole network setup.
Mavericks is nearly as bad and the above instructions should be universal except I would use AFP instead of SMB. Apparently Yosemite is now totally Windows oriented.

Airport Time Capsule not found

I'm tying to setup Time Machine backup on a new Macbook Pro (well, the laptop is Mid 2010 but I got it new ;-) ).
I have an existing Airport Time Capsule which I already use for another Mac as a backup device which is working fine.
In Time Machine setup I can't select the Time Capsule volume, neither can I see it in the Airport Utility although I am actully connected over WLAN to this Airport TC.I can use Airport Utility just fine on my other Mac and also on iPad without problem.
MacBook is running 10.8.4, Airport Utility is 6.3.1 TC has newest firmware as well.
Any hints?

Manually mount the hard disk of the TC.
In Finder, use the top menu.. Go, Connect to server.
AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress eg AFP://10.0.1.1 if the TC is at default.. you obviously substitute the actual name.. and that is network name.. not as it appears but as apple reads it.. much easier therefore to use names that already conform.. so short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Reset TM and see if you can find the hard disk you now have mounted.

Airport Time Capsule: None of your preferred networks are available

Just got the brand new MBA and an AirPort Time Capsule and set-up went fine, except that whenever my MBA goes to sleep and I open it back up, I've lost my wireless connection and get the message "None of your preferred networks are available." My network is among those available in the list, and it remembers my password, but I must select it every single time. Why won't it remember my preferences and automatically find my network. I shelled out $300 for this Time Capsule because it was supposed to be "lightening fast". My $45 Vizio router had me connected all the time - much faster, wouldn't you agree?

Make sure the box next to Remember networks this computer has joined is checked.
No other boxes should be checked.
Click OK, then click Apply.
It is easy to miss "Apply", and if you do, the settings will not "stick" on the Mac.
Restart the Mac.
Hopefully, your new Time Capsule network name does not use the same name of a previous network. That will really confuse things. If that is the case, use a new wireless network name and a new password for the Time Capsule.

Have you updated the Windows 8 version of the printer drivers from the manufacturer's support site yet? If not, please do. If, per chance, HP does not have Windows 8-specific drivers for this printer may be an indication that it is not supported, especially when connected to an AirPort router.
Finally, have you installed Bonjour for Windows on your laptop? If not, please do.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable. If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it. Time Machine can access it either way.

AirPort Time Capsule (firmware v7.7.3) has slow wifi connection to new Surface Pro 3

I got a new Surface Pro 3 i7. I have all the updates for it. I ran into a problem that many others also ran into which was very slow WiFi performance. I utilized many troubleshooting methods and sources and I am currently inclined to believe this... the new Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller drivers are not compatible with my Airport Time Capsule firmware version 7.7.3.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there another firmware version that works (older or newer)?

I tried all kinds of things, like changing the network drivers on the SP3 to many different versions. Many of the help forums recommended using the drivers dated 4/24/2014. This did seem to help, but not reliably. What I discovered is... if I connect using the SP3 WiFi to my network extension Airport Express on version 7.6.4, I reliably get 20-22 mbps (which is the best I can expect from my network and works great for my needs). But, when I connect to my primary network Airport Time Capsule, the best I can get is 1.5 mbps, but usually between .15 and .9 mbps. It's completely unusable in today's internet environment. At the same time, I used my iPhone and the Airport Utility to verify the connections. I used SpeedTest.net on my MacBook, iPad, iPhone and Win8.1 HP laptop to verify that every other device was getting the 20+mbps. And they did. Only the Surface Pro 3 couldn't perform when using WiFi through the Airport Time Capsule. The SP3 does achieve 20+ mbps like all my other devices, but only when connected to the Airport Express.
The articles I read said that the network drivers on the SP3 seem to require the routers to be updated to the latest versions. Both the Airport Time Capsule and the Airport Express seem to be updated. When I go into their settings using the Airport Utility, there are no updates available.
Of course this problem isn't replicated at the Microsoft store since they don't have apple routers. So, their response is to upgrade the routers. Extremely unhelpful when the Apple software is saying it is upgraded already. I can't believe this new Airport Time Capsule has to be retired because it isn't playing well with others, and I love the automatic backup it is providing for my MacBook. So, somehow, I need the Airport Time Capsule to work with the new WiFi card & drivers on my SP3, just like the SP3 is working properly with the Airport Express.

2. Completely agree!!! I did too and then I had to redo it because I couldn't install a driver. I had to start all over and reinstall Win 8 then Win 8.1 over it. It was a colossal waste of time and endless frustration. If I can just get it modestly working, I'll take it. It doesn't have to be perfect right now.
3. Great suggestion! And the Microsoft forums are also a buzz. One suggestion I tried (and it seems to be working) is to set a separate wireless network name for the 5ghz band. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but I'm hopeful. I t seems to have worked for some, but not others. The next thing I'll try is fixing the channel, but strangely, I didn't see that option in the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone. Is it only available through Mac/PC laptop/desktop software?
4. Yup. Sigh. I actually have an old linksys. I retired it when I went 100% apple. I was hoping that things would work smoother. And they did! Until this SP3 came into my life. Arg.

the AirPort Express is 802.11n (2nd gen)
I'm wondering if it is the AC connection that is the issue. Maybe since the Express always connects with n, it is OK....
Nope. Just tested the SP3 again and it is maintaining it's connection to the AirPort Time Capsule utiling the 802.11a/n/ac mode and connecting to the 5Ghz special network name. So far so good... Fingers crossed...

How to connect New Airport Time Capsule to non Apple asdl router

I have just purchased a new AirPort Time Capsule to back up the various macs in my house. I want to connect it to my wireless router which is a non apple product but the setup instructions are a little unclear to me.
My current router has simply a phone line connector and the power source coming into it. Do I simply connect an ethernet cable from the Airport to the Router. And if so, do I use the single Ethernet WAN port or one of the three Ethernet LAN ports on the rear of the airport? I assume the other end of the cable goes into any of the Ethernet slots on the back of my router which are marked 'Ethernet', or would it go into the socket marked 'Broadband WAN'?
Appreciate your help and if anyone is willing to speak on phone, I am very ahppy to call you in the next couple of hours! I am in the UK

What TC do you have.. Latest AC tall one?? Or older one?? If older. .please tell us the model number. A1409 for example from the base mat.

     The Main modem route has an ethernet cord plugged in the other side of the cord is plugged into the phone      jack
Do not plug the TC in first.. plug a single ethernet TC to the computer.. Hmm. so I need an additional ethenet cord to plug the TC into the computer? Leaving the router plugged in as is?
Open the airport utility and change the TC to bridge mode.

Further info: I am a complete newbie to Mac. Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs. Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back) with the F4 function key. While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it. Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on. So Idragged it over to display in the centre. But that's all that's there. And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor. There is some wierd disconnect. I'm sure it is just a setting thing. Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,

Using airport time capsule to create an internet connected network from pre existing wifi network

i bought an airport time capsule for college. I bought it to create a network for my dorm room so that I could take the pre existing wifi from the school and make my own mini network that I can hook my other stuff up to. Problem is that I don't have an ethernet hook up in my room so the network would have to be created from a wifi network rather that a ethernet hook up. Is this still possible? Alternate suggestions? I am afraid of either the college network blocking users from communication with other devices via the wifi, or the fact that my printer would be on a huge network for all to screw with.

NO, it won't work. Apple only works with apple.

I am sure your college has rules about not running your own wifi networks.. but anyway.. that is up to you.. the Apple TC cannot turn off 2.4ghz which would be handy.. so the only way to do this following the rules is ethernet. You can run a full network standalone on ethernet. And still use wireless for internet.
If you want to use wireless standalone this is also possible but you need to connect a second wifi USB dongle your Mac so you can have two networks at once.. You can use an express to connect to the college wireless and bridge that to the TC by ethernet.. then use the TC to create your own network.. since you cannot turn off 2.4ghz I guess how long the College IT people take to track you down should be hours. If you could just use 5ghz it would probably be ok.
