Connect a Nintendo DSiXL to a hidden WEP enabled Airport Extreme

I cannot get my DSiXL game console to connect to my Airport Extreme when the router is not broadcasting. I manually input the routers settings into the DS but times out when trying to connect. Any suggestions?

Hello janelane. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you are using a closed network and WEP for wireless security, I would strongly recommend against both as neither will thwart anyone except the most casual Wi-Fi users.
Instead I would recommend that you reconfigure your AEBSn for the "WPA/WPA2 Personal" or "WPA2 Personal" option. I would also recommend not closing your network. This does cause problems for some wireless clients, possibly your Nintendo, from being able to connect.

  • Automatically connecting a WEP encrypted Airport Extreme network

My Powerbook when it turns on has no trouble connecting to my WEP encrypted Airport Extreme network. My iMac G5 on the other hand requires a manual connection to the network. This even though my Apple menu -> System preferences -> network -> configure -> Airport has "by default join a specific network" with username and password selected.
Why does the Powerbook automatically connect when the iMac does not? Both are sitting side by side?

Well a variant of that article did work. I called AppleCare. They had me while I was still not connected, create a new location, Configure my airport settings, and lo and behold, preferred networks was there, I was able to edit my password for my WEP connection, hit Apply Now, restart, and Change All keychain passwords, and my network automatically connected on the next login.
    Thank you.

  • Connect a PC to My existing Wireless Network Using Airport Extreme

this is my issue i bought a Airport Express to connect a PC via ethernet to my wireless network already working at home. Cant figure out the settings???? need help. My home network is using a airport extreme base station. the problem is the PC doesn't have wireless capability so i connected the PC to the airport extreme in order to connect to the network, but no luck so far.

Hello Sailor25. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
What you need to do is configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a ProxySTA.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)

  • When connected to NETGEAR WNR1000, I can't remotely access Airport Extreme attached hard drive.

I have a hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme at home and I am staying at a friend's place where I am connecting to the Internet via a NETGEAR WNR1000 router (which is routing a broadband-cable connection from Comcast Xfinity).
When I am connected directly to the cable modem, the Airport Extreme's drives shows up in my Finder but when I'm connected via the NETGEAR router it doesn't show up.
There must be some setting in the NETGEAR router that is blocking access but I've not got clue one what setting I need to adjust or change on the router.
    Could someone please advise me?

I checked the NETGEAR router settings and it was not configured to block any services or sites. I did as you advised and set up Port Mapping/Forwarding from 548 to the IP assigned to my Mac but nothing showed up in the Finder (no Shared Devices etc).
I then connected directly to the cable modem via ethernet and Shared Devices showed up in my Finder window with my Airport Extreme. I connected to one of the drives connected to the AEBSn, then unplugged the ethernet and connected the NETGEAR back to the cable modem and thus my MacBook Pro was connected via WiFi to the NETGEAR router and to the Internet.
Shared Devices disappeared from my Finder window, BUT the HD I had connected to remained connected. It was listed under my MacBook Pro's name (3rd item after the local HD, "Network"). The icon is a blue and white drive with the WiFi logo on it.
I verified that I could access the files on this remotely connected drive and did a Get Info and in the window that popped up it said "Server: afp://MilkBar._afpovertcp._tcp.malckwan.members.mac.com/Untitled%2001".
I tried to use the Connect To (Cmd-K) to connect to another drive attached to the AEBSn (Untitled%2002) using the same formatted address but could not connect.
PS. I did verify that I was mapping Port 548 to the current IP assigned to the MacBook Pro.

  • Cannot connect Windows 7 laptop to USB HDD attached to Airport Extreme

I would appreciate anyone's help regarding the following issue. The situation is as follows:
    Laptop with Windows 7 installed
Laptop connects to Airport Extreme (5th generation) through Wifi
An external HDD (WD Elements 1TB) is attached to the Airport Extreme's USB
The external HDD is visible in Airport Utility and should work fine, as far as the Airport Utility is concerned
The external HDD is also visible in Windows Explorer and works fine when I attach it directly to the laptop's USB
However, I cannot access the HDD from my laptop when it's connected to the Airport Extreme's USB
I've followed all the steps described in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1331 for mapping a network drive, so I've done the following:
    I opened "Map Network Drive"
I selected an unused drive letter
I checked the Airport Extreme for the correct IP address (in my case: 10.0.1.1) and the HDD for its correct name (in my case called: "Backup")
I entered the correct path to the drive, using the above IP address and HDD's name
After doing all this, I keep receiving the following error message: "Windows cannot access \\10.0.1.1\Backup. Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try and identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose."
Details of the error message are as follows: "Error code: 0x80070035. The network path was not found."
When I select "Diagnose", Windows indicates that the external device or the external source does not accept the connection.
Access to the Airport Extreme is password protected. Same for the HDD. However, Windows does not prompt me to give the username and password, which might be causing the problem.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Paul

If you are connected by wireless.. it is actually wireless that is the problem.
30MB file (please try and use b for bits and B for Bytes.. )
that works out around 300Mb (with overheads).
That is 60Mbit/s average speed.. and for wireless I would say that is pretty good. (Real world transfer speed you can expect 1/2-1/4 of link speed.. and tending to the lower end of that. )
Plug the computer in by ethernet and get a speed for transfer of a single large file.. try something of the 1GB sort of size. A movie file for instance works fine.
Ethernet should be faster than any other step in the process.. assuming gigabit of course.. and that will then give you the upper limit speed.. but I would expect around 10MB/s max speed and maybe a bit less than that. USB on a router is choked because it is processor intensive. Most routers only manage that speed and sometimes a lot less.
Wireless on 5ghz band is faster than 2.4ghz if you are up close. It is worthwhile forcing the 5ghz connection if you want better wireless speed.

  • A visitor from Japan is unable to connect an iPhone or a Macbook Air to my Airport Extreme it says the password is invalid but the password works for other devices?

Am unable connect a MacBook Air to Airport Extreme using a valid password get an error message that password is invalid. The Mac belongs to a visitor from Japan?

Test by simplifying the name for the wireless and set names for the two bands..
    eg AE24ghz and AE5ghz.
Then use no security.. does the MBA and iphone then join..
If so put back security.. wpa2 with simple password, no spaces pure alphanumeric mixed case and numbers.
If no connection test with fixed channels .. say 11, 9, 6 in that order for 2.4ghz.
Don't worry about 5ghz for now.. if it still won't join it is somehow incompatible.. you need to reset the Japanese devices but I am not sure how.

  • Why can't I connect to my external hard drive anymore through my AirPort extreme?

I have a WD 500 GB external hard drive connected to my AirPort extreme that I have been using just fine for some time now. All of a sudden, I cannot access the files on the hard drive and when I try to connect to my AirPort in finder, the connection fails. What can I do to fix this?

If I restart my Mac it notices them
This is puzzling. You should not have to restart your Mac for drives to mount.
Also I plugged the hard drive directly into my Mac and had to restart it before it noticed it
Same as above. You should not have to restart the Mac for the drive to be recognized.
Connect the drive directly to the Mac and restart the Mac if necessary to mount the drive. Then run Verify Disk using Disk Utility on the Mac. If repairs are needed, run Repair Disk. Locate Disk Utility as follows:
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
See if the drive is recognized at the AirPort Extreme. Post on your results.

  • I'm trying to connect to a VPN (Buffalo Technology) from home over Airport Extreme (5th Generation)

    Hi all,
I just purchased a 5th generation Airport Extreme to replace my home router. I previously had a Linksys wireless G which gave up on me. I've got a handful of computers that will be hooked up to the router. One of them is a Windows machine and it needs to be able to VPN into work. The VPN is a product from Buffalo Technology. I don't have much further information than that right now.
When I try to connect to the VPN it connects using "WAN Miniport (PPTP)" then verifies the user name and password then tries to connect to "WAN Miniport (SSTP)." The next message is "Connecting to _____ useing WAN Miniport (L2TP)'... When I get to this step a new window pops up and shows the following error message:
Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed. The VPN server might be unreachable. If this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunel, the security parameters required for IPsec negatiation might not be configured properly.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I didn't have these problems on the other router when it was still in business. Thanks ahead of time for anyone who has suggestions.

When I try to connect to the VPN it connects using "WAN Miniport (PPTP)" then verifies the user name and password then tries to connect to "WAN Miniport (SSTP)." The next message is "Connecting to _____ useing WAN Miniport (L2TP)'...
What this is telling you is that the Buffalo VPN client is attempting to establish a secure connection to your company's VPN server/applicance using each of the common VPN connection methods. Since it was unable to establish a secure connection, its attempt to create a VPN tunnel has failed.
Typically, IPsec is used to establish a secure connection. For IPsec to work through a NAT firewall, UDP port 500 (for Internet Key Exchange IKE) & UDP port 4500 (for IPsec NAT-T) must be opened. This is offered as IPsec Passthrough on most consumer routers ... except the AirPorts. That is because, by default, they already have these ports opened for VPN as they are known as "VPN Passthrough" devices.
I would ask your work's IT for assistance on how to properly configure the Buffalo VPN client to work with your new router. It may have been configured for the earlier router and those settings may no longer apply.

  • Connecting a windows xp service pack 2 pc to airport extreme

So frustrating. I have a laptop used only for QuickBooks but I need an internet connection. Just upgraded to Airport Extreme and even though every Mac in the house can connect easily, this Windows computer says, "The network may no longer be in range," which is crazy because the computer is sitting 10 feet from the Airport.
    Any help?

You can try to lower the security settings a bit on the AirPort Extreme to see if that will allow the PC to connect.
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Change the setting for Wireless Security from WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Update
    Try the PC again
If still no luck, you might have a blocking issue with the Windows Firewall, which can be accessed through the Control Panel. The anti-virus software can also block a new connection attempt.
If all else fails, you could change the wireless security to "Off" temporarily, or connect using an Ethernet cable as Susan suggests.

  • Re : Apple TV doesn't connect to a Wi-Fi Broadband Internet Service using Airport Extreme

Hi, using Airport Extreme (Airport Utility version 6.3.2, Internet :DHCP, Router mode : Off (Bridge)) with a Wi-Fi Broadband Internet service. My Desktop (iMac), Macbook,iPhone,iPad join the Airport Extreme Wirelessi network (WPA/WPA2 Personal) easily and Broadband ISP Login-page pops up with username & password options. However, in case of Apple TV (2nd Generation Software : 6.0.2 (6646.81.1)), it connects the Airport Extreme W-Fi network easily but no Broadband ISP Login-page pops up with username & password options. Even using the Ethernet connection of the said Wi-Fi Broadband Internet Service directly to the Apple TV, no internet network connects. Please help.

There is no way you can handle login details with the ATV and there is probably no way you can do it with extreme in router mode either.. If you need to use a login name and password via a html screen then that is impossible in a device without html.
But your newest addition confuses me.
A slight correction in the question : the Broadband Internet Service isn't Wireless, but having Ethernet connection to the Airport Extreme.
So how do your iphones pop up a login page.
easily and Broadband ISP Login-page pops up with username & password options.
The alternative method is to use a computer .. login to your service and use ICS through the computer to the ATV..

  • Connect to one SSID, broadcast as another SSID, via AirPort Extreme?

I have an AirPort Extreme (5th Gen), and been struggling for a couple of hours to setup a network without access to a traditional LAN/Ethernet-cable.
All I have is a decent wifi-signal, which I have access too, and allowed to use as much as I want.
Unfortunately the current wifi-signal is not an apple network, so I cannot extend it.
So my question is, how do I connect my AirPort Extreme to the decent WiFi network, and brodcast my own SSID? - Is it not possible?
I managed at one time to connect my Extreme, to the decent WiFi network, but then I didnt have the option to broadcast my own. - And now I cannot figure out how I got my Extreme to get access to the other WiFi network.
    Best Regards
    Alex

So my question is, how do I connect my AirPort Extreme to the decent WiFi network, and brodcast my own SSID? - Is it not possible?
Configure an AirPort Express to "Join a wireless network", and it will provide an Ethernet signal which you can use to connect to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme using an Ethernet cable.
Configure the AirPort Extreme to "Create a wireless network" of your choice. Your AirPort Extreme network will be isolated or shielded so that any users on the "main" wireless network will not be able to see any of the devices on your private network. In turn, you will not be able to "see" any of the devices that are connected to the "main" wireless network.
You will see a Double NAT error when you do this, but you have an option to "ignore" the error so a green light will be displayed on the Extreme rather than the bothersome blinking amber light.

  • Connection to internet via ADSL with password login - using airport extreme

my connection to internet is via ADSL with account name and password login. i was able to set up the PPPoE settings of my new macbook properly to connect to the internet via an Ethernet cable. however, when i was trying to set up the airport extreme base station, the amber light was on all the time and has been giving me the error message "no connection to internet" - can someone pls help?

macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   new to mac and airport extreme base station
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

btam, Welcome to the discussion area!
The first thing to do is DISABLE PPPoE on your Mac. Since your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) will be handling PPPoE, your Mac doesn't need to do it.
Next configure the AEBS to connect to your ISP using PPPoE. You can see where to enter the PPPoE information by looking at Page 33 in the "Designing AirPort Networks" (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPortNetworks.pdf).

  • I cant seem to connect to the guest network i created on the airport extreme.

i seem to have set the base station up ok, but setting up the guest network has me pulling my hair out, i have set this up on my mac however when i try to connect my ipad to the guest network it accepts the password but all i get is that pinwheel forever spinning and not actually connecting. also when i open airport utiliy and see the base station in the top left corner the button that says connected devices when clicked shows nothing, they are greyed out, however when i click on the base station i do see my ipad and iphone and mac.

Whethere or not the guest network feature will work correctly depends on what type of device is providing your Internet connection.
The Guest Network will work if you have a simple modem.
Unfortunately, most Internet Service Providers furnish a modem/router to their customers.....which will not allow the Guest Network feature to be activated correctly.
If you are not sure whether you have a modem or modem/router.....post back with the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem".
